Hi guys,
I am planning to buy a Note 3 (I love big phones) and since my carrier doesn't offer windows phones I was wondering if I could replace the android OS for a WP8.1? I didn't find clear answer to that on the internet and no instructions at all. I wonder where I could find theses...
Thanks for the help!

If you want a Lumia, buy a Lumia. Bizzarre menus? Check. Limited appstore? Check. Difficulties syncing? Check.
Lumias by themselves ain't bad, they got some great cameras (the high-end ones), the low-end Lumias are better performers than the low-end Androids, I have to admit.
It has been done before, the HTC HD2 started as a Windows device, but Android has been ported for it and development is still going.
The Note 3, however, is not a device with too much development for it.
Either sell it and get a Lumia, or get used to it. Even if it's 2015, the Note 3 is one infernally powerful device, trust us on that.

Well, for now its going to be a No NO, why because the developers have very limited access to phones architecture and the xips. At this stage even the apps for wp7 have very limited functionality, for example most WP7 have a digital compass but as of yet no application effectively utilises this feature. However, with the progression of time and new updates coming in we shall see marginal improvement in the WP7 ecosystem. Who knows that some xda developer might be able to emulate android on wp7 and consequently on Omnia 7 as well.

I hope this will soon be possible. I feel really cheated with my WP7. I can't believe Microsoft can get away with this. I am stuck with a 2 year plan, Omnia 7 trade in price dropped so low, and I have to pay the telco a big penalty if I change phone now.
I'd rather give my money to the developers who can give Android on Omnia 7.
yes i agree with you about the feeling cheated by microsoft they gave the impression of many minor updates as they became available not one or twice a year i cant wait for omnia 7 to be hacked to run android.
on a different note will it ever be possable to create a emulator for wp7 that can mount a iphone app ?
Why people want Android to all phones? Boring...
If the people want android, why they don't bay an android Phone?
why?
Im happy on WP and can't see the reason for using Android. I read a lot before buying my Omnia 7 and dont feel cheated therefore. Mango will be the start for regular users and this close to the update, it would seem like a lot of work for nothing. WP is a more modern plattform so why go backwards, in that case buy a Android device instead.
Android dev for HD2 was understanble, a lot of problems with WM OS made it easyer for daylie users to get a stable phone. Android was a new and better platform in terms of stability.
WP today just works, and Mango will make it complete, or cloae to it.
I find this query odd too. I can understand it if it is the HD2 forum or any WM6.x devices.
There are tons of Android devices with specs equal or superior to the Omnia 7 (like the Galaxy S2). So why bother asking to put Android on the Omnia 7? Just get an Android device.
If it is possible, sounds great.but android gives me a very bad user experience, and I used to have a pocket pc and an android device,I bought wp7 all because of its new UI,and power hardware, these improve the experience.just as what I said,I do not like android, even android on omnia7 is possible.
You should go buy Galaxy S II instead.
Android for omnia7? I'm in! Will donate, how much?
news about android on omnia?
with WP7 Downloader Ver 7.41 for Publish (Add OASIS Latin).rar we should be able to inject android into i8700 veins (as well as ios, probably)
Is something new in this thread ?
No obviously not. The last post was last year. There's not going to be Android on Omnia7 at all.

Omnia 7 and Focus are now old enough to be cheaper than equivalent android phones. a 2nd hand HD2 cost about $250 on ebay because everyone who knows about what it can do wants one to play with still. the Samsung Focus costs approx $130.
So if you can run android on it. the resale value of your samsung focus (and omnia 7 because it is similar hardware) will increase.
Guys, you bought yourself a WP, because you wanted a WP.
So, why even start thinking about Android?
Yes, I know, my signature, says, that I've go a Droid. I'd actually prefer a WP, a Samsung WP, to be exact...
I only took an Android, because the German Telecom doesn't have any Samsung WP's anymore...
Back to the point;
WHO CARE'S ABOUT ANDROID??? IT'S CRAP!!!
Believe, me, I'm using one... -.-"

I'm sure everyone is entitled to an opinion, it seems obvious that the people who are asking for android prefer android. I imagine some people may have bought a WP7 phone thinking it would have more development or more apps or just be different, and now would like to see android developed on the device.
I own a HD2, a phone that runs pretty much every OS and I have installed WP7 and Android (aswell as the stock WM6.5). Originally I liked WM6.5 and the mods for that, android was not for me ... infact when WP7 came out I was tempted to get a new phone, when WP7 was made available for HD2 I tried it and my personal opinion is what it does it does well, but it is very limited and closed. My opinion on android has now changed with developments and apps etc and now my phone stays in android mode 99% of the time.
I know people who own the omnia 7 , and as a result i often check here every so often. I thought the idea of this site was development - now you (and various others) may think that development should be limited to the OS that the phone originally came with, but using that logic my beloved HD2 would most likely be gathering dust right about now...
Hi, i have been using WM 6.5 and Android for quite a while (HTC TyTn II and LG Optimus One), i recently decided to try an WP7 phone... so Optimus 7 seems to be a good choice.
I just have one question, how many finger touches does it support?? i cant seem any info regarding this (or any info regarding this on any WP7 phone) other than it simply being listed as 'multi-touch'.
Thanks a lot... and sorry if its a stupid question but i cant seem to find the answer anywhere!!
The screen apparently supports more than 4, but the software is limited to 4 points of contact, and that is what you get with Optimus 7. There are many games in the Marketplace that demonstrate this. I must say, as a Optimus 7 owner, and having tried the other WP7 devices, the Optimus 7 probably has the most ... Optimal touch experience of them all ... HTC ones are far too sensitive.
Screen support up to 10 fingers , I don't have more fingers to try
thanks a lot... guess i will prob go with this phone.. but have to save up for a while..

I bought it unlocked on ebay for 165 euros!
http://cgi.ebay.de/LG-E900-OPTIMUS-...00625220083?pt=DE_Handy_s&hash=item2eb631e9f3
Wow for that price is incredible even in USD it comes to $238.82 according to Google. The best I could find in the ebay us site was in the $400 and $550 range!
Next time I'm hunting for a phone I'll come here and ask for advice.
Also, pachuau86 if you're planning on saving to buy a new phone why don't you wait for the new Nokia Windows Phone 7? They'll kick the ass of any WP7 to date so you better wait and see what the other brands will bring to the table, its all dual core now baby.
Google Nokia windows Phone 7 since I can't posts links yet due to being a noob.
This is my first wp7 phone and it is really good. Solid to hold and very good build quality. WP7 is very good and will get better with mango. If your in the UK try the expansys website i picked mine up from there brand new sim free for £185.
I don't know about any Nokia WP7s as those are rumoured NOT to be released in North America this year or early next year anyways ...
But ... if you are interested in this phone, I have it on good authority that the same body will receive and update, which includes the latest SoC (1-1.2Ghz from what I heard), as well as a front camera and gyroscope, with a better battery life and screen, called the LG E90X (Note that the 'X' refers to a digit between 5-9 depending on location of release) ...
thanks a lot for the replies... will save up and try to get this phone
After using WP7 on an HD2 i decided that i kind of LOVE the simplicity of the OS. I love Android and tinkering with things and generally breaking them. But for a simple smartphone that just WORKS i wanted to get something like an HD7 or Titan. My contract isn't up for about 6 months yet!
Looking at the T-Mob website they only have Android, Blackberry and iOS. Oh yeah and Symbian
Anyone got any idea why they don't do WP7 handsets in the UK?
On a side note i'm never moving away from Android but i'll probably pick up a cheap tablet like an Andypad Pro for Android but a WP7 device would my simple smartphone.
Why not try Launcher 7 on your android phone and have the best of both?

Yeah it's a nice idea and i have the purchased version but i want the full experience. The Twitter and Facebook apps are nice, contacts nice too. I have also looked at the "WP7 Android Project" which have some WP7 app clones but it's still not the same. It's just not as fluid.
Thanks for the suggestion though!
Fair enough - that fluidity is down to the old android 1.x and 2.x stumbling block - GPU acceleration. I do think that WP7 looks an impressive OS and think MS have done a good job with it, but the market results don't really reflect that.
As for answering your original question, presumably T-mob see little market for WP7 in the UK. Vodafone only carry one (LG Optimus 7). Orange seem to have the best lineup with 3 models. Maybe when Nokia get their WP phones out then European carriers will respond more.
Yeah my guess was they didn't see a market for it. And yeah i noticed Orange seem to have a good selection of them i just wanted to stick with T-Mobile. Maybe i will just get the best phone T-Mob offer me and then buy a sim free WP7 device.
Or maybe by the time i upgrade i will want to keep whatever sexy new Android is out
Has anyone managed to shoe horn android onto a htc windows phone?

Good advice right here
unless it's an HD2, don't expect anything with WP capabilities to run any other OS
frankly I'm surprised how far iDroid got on iOS, but it still wasn't usable.
A lot of times manufacturers will have deals where they'll give you a serious discount when you trade in an old smartphone
HTC's for the One was a minimum $100 reward
The other possibility would be to develop an emulator which would take a lot of work and maybe be capable of running as high as gingerbread on gen after next devices meaning the 8X could maybe run donut or eclair
or create an HTML5 site that has what you miss about android and pin that to the start screen
you're going to be better off selling the 8X and buying a new phone than either of these (unless your time is virtually worthless)
Doh, I was afraid of that
If you wanna sell let me know!

My wife was using Galaxy S2 for quite some time and now quite envy my Lumia 820's stability and interface (yes I agree with you on customization options, but the stability of the OS and lack of lags make up for it, atleast for me & my wife).. If you are selling, let me know. I'd like to pick it up! I have a PPO box both in US & UK, so if you are in any of this countries local shipping would do!

Your right yiyaz, it is quick and pretty, that's why I've as stuck with it, never experienced any crashes but not a problem with my old DHD either, I just miss my old apps, I have an android tablet too so need for them to get on.

HI guys,
Newb here, My dad has been using a samsung omnia gt I900 for some years, ive been trying to convrt him to android and now wondering in with all the advances if it is possible to put an android OS on a microsoft phone. I might regret asking this question but taught i would give it a go , as you developers are coming up with some amazing sh*t these days.
:good:
Nothing is impossible but the important factor is reality. I'm not an expert but I know when you port a new OS you need to write drivers and programs to control the underlying hardware. This is especially difficult if you are unrelated to the phone manufacturer.
So no you won't be able to change the phone to Android.
Remember everyone is different, especially across age groups. You should chat to your dad and find out what he likes and doesn't like about the Omnia. If he really likes certain things about Windows, have a look at upgrading him to a newer WP8 model; it has many more features and he'd get an upgrade to WP10 too. However maybe he would like testing out an Android or iPhone. Go to a phone store sometime with him
