Hi all..
As you may be able to tell I'm new here. After looking around the Note 4 area of the forums, I've noticed that it is full of Custom ROMs and Kernels, which is great as I'm planning on buying one in a couple of months. What I haven't seen, however, is a whole lot of Dev support for the Galaxy S5 G901F, my current phone. This is baffling me somewhat, as the phones are almost identical inside minus the 3GB RAM of the Note. What is even more odd is that after comparing my G901F to two Note 4 Snapdragons in work today, I noticed that my G901F gave them both a kicking in Antutu Benchmark (50300 for G901F, 47900 for Note 4).
With such similarities between the G901F and the Note 4 Snapdragon, why is it that the Note 4 is being so fully supported by Devs? I thought I'd post it in the Note 4 section as this is theoretically where anyone with the knowledge to answer that will reside.
This wasn't intended as a question but it seems I ticked the box. Could a mod fix it? Cheers.
Hope someone can help
Note is a better and more capable device. Most who try, never go back.
The Note 4 is much more popular.

That's exactly it. Devs only tend to support a phone they own. If there's not many people own your device then there is little support. A lot of note 3 owners were complaining that the eteam released dn4 for the note 2 and not the n3 saying it was an outdated device. The simple answer is none of the eteam owned a note3

Officially the "S5 prime" isn't a S5 model at all. according to Samsung at least. We all know it is a derivative model though. No dedicated subform here. As the phone has now been designated an Asian market only phone, pretty much everything is in Chinese or Korean. There is a thread dedicted to the prime here (just do simple search for it) that tabulates what is available for the model. The last I looked it was just rooting methods plus a few semi-custom Chinese ROMs.
As a niche model limited to China and Korea; and with it's own firmware path and incompatible drivers we probably won't see a wealth of custom ROMs for it. More likely you will see a 900H type path with very little development simply because most developers won't own the variant.
.
oic... this variant specs is pretty awesome though.. the galaxy s5 should have had these specs in the first place!

Agreed. But Samsung took the safe, conservative way out and didn't break much real new ground with the S5. They just refined the S4 and added more apps. More to the point, amongst all the rumours of a S5 Prime model, Samsung blatantly lied and told us categorically that there would be no forthcoming S5 prime model, to boost initial S5 sales. They didn't want people holding off in wait for the Prime version.
That created a lot of anger and outrage when the deception was revealed. And a lot of us suspect that the S5 Prime was originally planned for wide release, but to save face was subsequently designated as an Asian market only handset. At the very least, it was criminal that Samsung released the original S5 with a 16 GB ROM in NA and less RAM than the existing N3. Criminal because the S5 was supposedly the flagship device, but the marketing people new thought that they could get away with the inferior specs.
.
And as another nail in the coffin of the so called S5 Prime gaining wider distribution.. Samsung just announced (earlier today) a Note 3.5 model. If you look at the specs, it's really the S5 Prime with a 5.6" screen positioned as an intermediate Note model.
Obviously a face saving move allowing them to continue the charade that the S5 Prime was never intended for worldwide sales. The new model is being called the Note Edge and makes it even less likely that you will see many custom ROMs for the "S5 Prime".

The note 4 has the same specs as the G906 (S5 "Prime", which is a Korea only model)... So maybe other than the S Pen it'll have similar hardware.... But who knows till we see a ROM!
Besides that Miscom has made a custom ROM for it (G906), just with root and a bit of de-bloating. It is super fast on it, so I'm not sure what you want from a custom rom.

Please explain how the S5 "Prime" is gaining wider distribution.
The Note edge is more than just a 5.6 inch S5 Prime. Have you seen it's defining software features? With what you're saying, this applies to the G3, M8, Find 7, Z2 and Z3 and pretty much most of the flagship devices coming out this year. The Note Edge and Note 4 are completely different devices to the Note 3 and S5 Prime, unless of course you are just looking at what brand chipset it has and how it has the iconic Galaxy design.

I wouldn't call it a Prime model, I would call it a region specific model. Aren't those two exclusive to South Korea and parts of Europe?
do you guys any chinese/korean forums where there are custom roms for the samsung galaxt s5 prime? I can get a prime for almost the same price as the galaxy s5 .. but I am hesitating because of the lack of roms

Hey all,
Finally upgraded from Galaxy S3 international to Note 4 SM-910C.
Was running cyanogenmod 11 on the S3 for a year and have never been more please with a mobile device.
now however with this new phablet, I'm hoping to achieve great things. Saying goodbye to RAM troubles and forgetting what cpu clocking is all about in general.
Was happy to experiment with the S3 as there were hundreds of roms available and endless tutorials on how to install etc. Now I'm not so worried as it's all quiet simple. But have noticed there isn't really much out for note the note besides lollipop on CM 12 and exposed.
Hoping any updates on new stable roms could be added here and I'll be sure to post anything when I hear about any new ones. Your time is highly appreciated
so basically, what's new and what's good? .
thank you
Well fabiolus..
Good and bad news, exynos has no custom roms. The sm n910c is an exynos and that means so far nada..
But the S3 was an exynos chipset too, and look at how many roms there are for that..
Keep your fingers crossed.. if there is nothing by next year I'll probably develop one myself!
FabiolusLMP
Exynos does have custom roms and same mods as snapdragon only CM12 for the snapdragon variant but development will pick up for Exynos once s6 drops

Yea, been sniffing around and so it seems development will pick up eventually.
So far came across this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/development/rom-sweet-rom-v2-nj4-4-4-4-t2923953
For the exynos variant.
But still a bit skeptical, will hang on till my warranty expires then see what selections are available

or you could just look here
So I'm thinking of buying a used Note 3 because my old Note 2 died and I have a few questions. (Please answer them in order)
1)What are the different versions of the Note 3 (IK that the 4G is the snapdragon model and the exynos model is the normal note 3, am i missing something?)
2)Is there still support for both of the models?
3)Which model has better development support?
4)Does the Exynos model have AOSP support or only TW?
5)Is there any ROM for the Exynos model with S6 and/or Note 4 features?
Thanks a lot in advance!
1- there are many. But yes these 2 are main.
2- from sanmsung? Barley. Devs? All you want.
3- SM-N9005
4-both i think
5-look at development forums for note 3 and you will see.
I recommend snapdragon SM-N9005 due to better dev support here. Some great custom roms it has here.

Thanks! I'm happy that the community still cares about this device! I will try to get the snapdragon version but I would love if more people answered my questions so i can learn the opinions!
1- There are two versions only, hardware wise. Snapdragon and Exynos. But there are probably a zillion version for US carriers, about which I have least interest. In any case, all of them have either SD or Exynos.
2- Snapdragon, yes, Exynos, very minimal. But yes, it's great to see that some new stuffs are cooked for this old champ. But I don't think people will be interested in Note 3 for any longer, as soon as Note 5 goes official, you can think support will be near nil.
3- Snapdragon.
4- As far as I have noticed, I think there is CM for Exynos devices, don't take my word for it though.
5- No idea.
In short, get the Snapdragon version if you can.
1) The main two versions are the Snapdragon (N9005) and Exynos (N900) variant. Everything else is one of those two for a different region or provider.
2)From Samsung, the usual. (meaning, barely.). From the devs here at XDA, plenty.
3) Snapdragon always has better dev support.
4) no idea.
5) no idea, either. Sorry.
Technically the N9005 4G is the 'normal' device. Or international, or whatever they're calling it this week. This is due to the majority of the countries now having 4G. (it was the other way around 5 years ago.) The N900 3G Exynos was meant for lower-level markets that don't have 4G yet.
Keep in mind that the Snapdragon device comes with an Adreno, and the Exynos has a Mali gpu. As well as the Snapdragon having 2.3gHz, and the Exynos a meagre 1.9gHz processor. So if you intend to game on it, Adreno/Snapdragon is the way to go.
Always go for the Snapdragon version if you have the option.

Hi all,
I'm wondering if there are any custom kernels which support the SM-N900D variety of the Note 3 which i have?
Seems pretty late in the game for Note 3 development. Mostly a mature product. I home my Japanese Note hasn't got left behind
If there is one then please let me know

Nothing here at note 3 forums as far as I know.
Just wondering if any current Note 7 users are here. I'm a Note 7 user looking to have a forum community again, so if development is compatible I'll hopefully have a nice place to stay.
So any other Note 7 users lurking here?

I had 3 note 7s last year, two snapdragons and a dual sim exynos lol.
I think many of us here will be former note 7 users, hell we should get a discount on the FE.
