No, at least under the stock rom it was not possible. When I had Ethernet connected the wifi was off in the settings menu.

[Q] Nexus 7 ethernet through powerline?

I just got the Western Digital Livewire setup. My nexus 7 connects fine using a generic apple Ethernet adapter + OTG and connected straight into my cable modem. I tried to get Ethernet on the N7 through a port on the Powerline and it just would not recognize it. Has anyone else tried this or is it possible Android doesn't like to be hooked up to Ethernet that way? I'm pretty stumped.

As to your question, I have no idea. I'm just curious why you're using ethernet instead of wifi. Is there any benefit? Not trolling, I'm just wondering what your motivation is. I must admit I've never imagined anyone would use a tablet on anything other than wireless.

I've seen a few on the forum use Ethernet on their Nexus 7. It can give a more consistent internet speed in some cases and I think it drains less battery from the device. I had the Western Digital setup for some VOIP phone stuff so I thought I'd try it out. I don't have wifi.
Whether it's a powerline or not shouldn't matter as that's transparent to the connected device. It just sees an Ethernet link.
So N7 + OTG + USB Ethernet Adapter into the cable modem worked fine? N7 + USB Ethernet Adapter into the powerline did not work? What is the powerline connected to again? Is the cable modem just a "dumb" modem or is it a router as well with DHCP functionality?
Do any other devices work being connected through the powerline adapters?
Yes the N7+OTG+USB Ethernet works fine. Just started trying to network things as I have a need for it now. I see that I need to get a broadband router still. I have an Arris cable modem( TM402G/110) that I use with Xfinity Voice. I thought maybe it could have a router already in it but I guess not. Can anyone recommend a cheap broadband router, well low cost and good function?

Using Ethernet and Wifi at the same time in Android

i want to use turn on both Ethernet and Wifi on my android decive at the same time with different IP addresses like:
Wifi: IP: 192.168.1.5 Gateway: 192.168.1.1
and
Ethernet: IP:192.168.0.10 Gateway: (Blank)
Is it possible? the problem is that when i turn Wifi on , the Ethernet will get disconnected.
and only when Wifi goes off or disconnected Ethernet will be connected!
How can i use both of them at the same time connected to the network?
It's possible in PC based systems even with 2-3 adapters! But what about Android devices?

okay , i dont want to do this anymore, the problem solved.
im using USB to Ethernet adapter.
i use wifi of tablet for other purpose , i want to add a device to tablet that works with network
i can simply put an accesspoint and connect the device to tablet but it a bit more expensive that USB-Ethernet adapter
simply for this!
anyways thanks for ur answer
Thanks for your precious input man!. It also works for me with an Android compatible USB / Ethernet Adapter. If I configure both Wifi and Ethernet manually with different subnets, I can make both work simultaneously. I use this adapter: Assmann DN-10050-1 Digitus USB network adapter.
@hyelton: ever heard of Android TV boxes? Imagine to have it connected via Wifi to the web and via Ethernet to your NAS?
Cheers.

Yes I know, but why is the NAS not already connected to the same network that the box is connecting to the WiFi? The ideal way is to have the NAS part of your network not separate.

You are right, it is the ideal way to have everything in the same network. But in my experience, streaming HD content via Wifi is too laggy. Therefore I connect my NAS and my Android TV box via an ethernet cable.

But why not connect the Ethernet side TO your router and not use wifi?

Because I would have to drill holes in several walls to get the cable trough to all devices. This way I only need to place the NAS in the vicinity of the Android TV Box and connect them via cable.

Idk it just seems verry wasteful. I have Ethernet scattered throughout my upstarts no holes drilled and none of it visible. Why don't you just use an external USB hard drive instead of wasting a NAS?

Dear Friends,
let me explain about the problem.
Result: let me say that the problem solved by interfacing android usb to my device instead of ethernet.
Details: and now about the reason i need to do it: i have a small electronic design office. i need to design a system that controls electrical I/Os (like Relays, Triacs, etc) and need android to control that wirelessly, so 2 problem exists:
1. how to connect android wirelessly to PC / Mobile?
Answer: by network programming and wifi
2. how to connect android device (tablet/phone without direct I/Os) to the Electrical devices with wire?
Answer: there is 2way: 1.with Ethernet , 2. with Usb
Ethernet: via Enc28j60
Usb: with usb controller
and why not to use Router/AccessPoint?
Answer: simply because addition of more device! it increase cost of building and the volume , power consumption, complexity of system etc.
Thanks for ur attention.
(sorry for bad english.)

I know this is an old topic...
But just wondering, doesn't Android TV boxes have their own Ethernet port? Or does only the USB Ethernet work simultaneously with builtin in WiFi?
I am keen to make them work simultaneously on HiMedia media player which already has a builtin Ethernet port and WiFi, but only one works at a time.
Thanks
U need rooted tv or android
Maybe this will help

[Q] Can't get ethernet to work

I bought a simple micro USB to fast Ethernet adapter but I can't get it to work.
The connect light on my switch illuminates and the first time I powered up the nexus player after plugging in, it disconnected the wifi connection but won't connect via Ethernet.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance

What model did you get? I know the Nexus Player is finnicky about which ethernet adapters will work. I had to return the first one I ordered.

How to activate the Ethernet on the MOJO?

Hi, does anyone have any idea how to "activate" (if that's the word) the Ethernet on the MOJO - obviously it usually connects by Wireless, but just wondered if it was possible to Connect via the Ethernet. I'm running on CM12 not stock so not sure if there are menu choices for this sort of thing.

I switched my MOJO to Ethernet a few days ago, and it "just worked." I plugged the Ethernet cable in, turned off Wi-Fi in the drop-down settings, and it's still working. I'm using unjustified's CM12.1 as well.

Helps if you plug it in to the router

ethernet / wifi question - accessories (wifi remote/wifi control) issue with ethernet

ive just realised that my sheild controller and wifi remote (amazon 4k) do not consistently work when connected by ethernet
when i plug ethernet and have a wireless connection the devices work fine and have more immediacy.
is this a bug? or a fix? with connecting by ethernet and using wifi devices... i'm guessing the ips/dns don't configure properly so its not consistently working
any tips on a fix?
