[Q] Can't get ethernet to work - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought a simple micro USB to fast Ethernet adapter but I can't get it to work.
The connect light on my switch illuminates and the first time I powered up the nexus player after plugging in, it disconnected the wifi connection but won't connect via Ethernet.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance
Michael

What model did you get? I know the Nexus Player is finnicky about which ethernet adapters will work. I had to return the first one I ordered.

[Q] USB Ethernet?

Just wondering, since my Thinkpad Tablet has that handy USB port, can I plug in a USB ethernet adapter? Would be very handy for configuring network hardware and the like.
Thanks
Try it. I'd be eager to see what you come up with!
Me too.

It might work, but you need the correct USB to RJ45 Ethernet adapter for Android devices.
Funny, I was wondering the same thing yesterday. Love to know outcome.

Hello,
i bought in Germany an Medion Lifetab P9516, its a Lenovo Ideapad K1.
This week we got the update of ICS and so i have ethernet with a d-link usb-ethernet adapter.
The adapter is a DUB-E100 adapter and i get the ip-address dynamicly.
I can see the ip with ifconfig and the route with ip route, but i cant change the ip because the device is not rooted.
Is here anyone who rooted his device with ICS and can give a little advice?
Thanks a lot
Wolfgang
P.S. Please apologies my bad english.

What I use and is really sweet is a Bluetooth to serial adapter. They are a little high in price though compared to a USB Network adapter.
There are multiple companies that make them but this has been my favorite one so far - http://www.g2microsystems.com/products/RN_270
I use it with a free app called blueterm and can config anything with a console/serial cable from my phone or tablet.

Ethernet connection

Hi,
I was hoping to use a wired ethernet connection to my N7.
I was reading it was possible and I happen to have the cables from before. A micro usb to usb female and then a usb to ethernet adapter. Mine is based on ADM 8515 and it doesn't work.
I haven't rooted or done anything else yet.
I have seen reports that another usb to ethernet adapter works, based on AX88772.
Anyone managed to get this to work? Does it work out of the box with the AX88772? Anyone managed to get it to work with this ADMTek one, or any other chipset?

[Q] Nexus 7 ethernet through powerline?

I just got the Western Digital Livewire setup. My nexus 7 connects fine using a generic apple Ethernet adapter + OTG and connected straight into my cable modem. I tried to get Ethernet on the N7 through a port on the Powerline and it just would not recognize it. Has anyone else tried this or is it possible Android doesn't like to be hooked up to Ethernet that way? I'm pretty stumped.

As to your question, I have no idea. I'm just curious why you're using ethernet instead of wifi. Is there any benefit? Not trolling, I'm just wondering what your motivation is. I must admit I've never imagined anyone would use a tablet on anything other than wireless.

I've seen a few on the forum use Ethernet on their Nexus 7. It can give a more consistent internet speed in some cases and I think it drains less battery from the device. I had the Western Digital setup for some VOIP phone stuff so I thought I'd try it out. I don't have wifi.
Whether it's a powerline or not shouldn't matter as that's transparent to the connected device. It just sees an Ethernet link.
So N7 + OTG + USB Ethernet Adapter into the cable modem worked fine? N7 + USB Ethernet Adapter into the powerline did not work? What is the powerline connected to again? Is the cable modem just a "dumb" modem or is it a router as well with DHCP functionality?
Do any other devices work being connected through the powerline adapters?
Yes the N7+OTG+USB Ethernet works fine. Just started trying to network things as I have a need for it now. I see that I need to get a broadband router still. I have an Arris cable modem( TM402G/110) that I use with Xfinity Voice. I thought maybe it could have a router already in it but I guess not. Can anyone recommend a cheap broadband router, well low cost and good function?

[Q] Connecting the device to a TV

Hi everyone,
I've searched this forum and on Google but didn't really find the answers to my questions.
If I want to connect my Nexus to a TV (that has a USB port of course) what cables and adapters do I need to use?
By searching I found out I need this adapter:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009UZBLSG
But what other cable/s do I need?
Thank you.

Just a heads up, there are cheaper ones that work better...
You screen will flicker with the SlimPort... at least mine did.

Thanks, how are they called?
Can someone help? Do I need to buy a cable that has a male HDMI connector and a male USB connector so that it connects to my TV?
And along with it I need the slimport adapter (or any other adapter)?
Thanks.

Just a normal male to male hdmi cable, slimport goes to the hdmi input on your tv
It's easiest to just get a Miracast adapter since that's what the Nexus uses for Wireless Display. Just connect that little box to your TV via said HDMI cable and the nexus will connect to it directly, wirelessly.

How to activate the Ethernet on the MOJO?

Hi, does anyone have any idea how to "activate" (if that's the word) the Ethernet on the MOJO - obviously it usually connects by Wireless, but just wondered if it was possible to Connect via the Ethernet. I'm running on CM12 not stock so not sure if there are menu choices for this sort of thing.

I switched my MOJO to Ethernet a few days ago, and it "just worked." I plugged the Ethernet cable in, turned off Wi-Fi in the drop-down settings, and it's still working. I'm using unjustified's CM12.1 as well.
