That's either
1. A lie
2. You didn't search
3. Your searching another forum
To root your phone (as said many many times in the z2 section)
1. Downgrade to 4.4.2 to root
2. Unlock your bootloader

They're options. I may not have made that clear.
If you have 4.4.4 and want root you have two options. You either downgrade or unlock bootloader.
My point is there are a lot of threads with people saying how do I root 4.4.4 and everytime the response is the same.
Choose one of the options below:

Maybe is my headache but to root we can simply Flash Recovery in fastboot and then SuperSU in recovery? Or why not? Thanks

Just a notice to some folks,
1) take a look at the "root" threads, and yes, there are several pertaining to trying to get root on 4.4.4.
2) Don't call people "liars", please. We know it's sometimes difficult for new users to find the appropriate information.
3) Be a little more precise in your answers. Not everybody is a technical genius
Now, for some folks who are new to the Z2 forums, and this includes Z2 tablets as well.
There is no "Easy" root for 4.4.4. This is well known to most folks. So basically it leaves 2 options.
1) Downgrade your OS to 4.4.2, then you can use the Towelroot based root application, and a few other things. Then you can flash a pre-rooted 4.4.4 ROM and still retain root and DRM keys.
2) Downgrade to 4.4.2 and Back-up your DRM keys using the available app, with root. Upgrade to 4.4.4 and unlock your bootloader, and install a modified Boot.img, flashboot boot a recovery.img, and let it install SU and binary (or use ADB). This way, if you honestly need your DRM keys, you can re-install DRM (and go back to 4.4.2), then migrate to 4.4.4
Honestly, other than some proprietary Sony music, and the loss of Playstation controller, I really can't see a need for the DRM keys anyhow.
Those are pretty much the 2 options. And Lollipop 5.0.x will offer no other options as well.
Bottom line, be nice folks....
MD

Actually you will loose some camera functionality such as Sony Bionz image processing that helps to reduce the low light camera noise. I know there's a thread that restore this but I doubt that works 100%. Camera is the only thing stopping me from unlocking the bootloader to root, luckily we have an exploit which works on older kernels ?

zxz0O0 just released "in dev version for Z3/Z3C/Z3CT. I hope that this should work on Z2 on 4.4.4.
Have any of you tried? damn I am on CM otherwise woulda given a shot and see.

If you have updated to 10.1.1.D.2.26 then the Easy Rooting toolkit doesn't work yet.
I was able to root 10.1.1.D.2.26 with the info found here on 2ch with the tool posted on comment 508.

Both work with Doomlord, once it is rooted you should use rootkeeper otherwise OTA will remove your root.
You can update using OTA using WiFi under settings -> about phone
Otherwise you can use the Sony Bridge Software to update your phone but it will delete root and there is not root for later versions of the software.
The latest version out now is 4.2.2 build 10.31.B.0.224
Thanks zaphod777!

If you install root keeper you should be OK with OTA update. Updating the phone with the PC software will remove root.

Brand new Xperia Z1 android 4.3 root help

Hi there, 2 weeks ago I bought a Xperia z1, and it was already with android 4.3 ver:14.2.A.0.290 and I can't ROOT it, I don't want to unlock the bootloader (not yet). And I wonder if there's a way to root it, like previous versions of android, using any app or something, because I have tried some pages where you install CMW but it must be with unlocked bootloader...
now my question is... do you think that there will be a way to root the phone without unlocking bootloader?
thanks and regards from Chile.
Not for the moment, you need to downgrade the firmware if you want to root your Z1
Enviado desde mi C6906 mediante Tapatalk
You don't search very well. There is no direct root like Vroot or something like that at the moment and probably never will be. You can root your phone with locked bootloader with this method only, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572988, watch the video, it will help you to understand.
well, I have watched the video, and I think I'm screwed, because of this:
- I must unlock my bootloader and I will lose the DRM keys.
- if I want to backup my TA partition I need to ROOT my phone (but I can't)
so I'm serioulsly thinking about unlocking my bootloader. (I've already the latest version so it is supposed not to brick the camera)
and about the link that @eclyptos left... it says:
Requirements:
Flashtool 0.9.13 by @Androxyde
XZDualRecovery 2.7.43 BETA or newer.
Current rooted FW version: 14.1.G.1.534 and 14.1.G.2.257 .
but my phone came with the latest version. :crying:
so what do you think, do I unlock my bootloader anyways?

Do not unlock it yet!
1. Downgrade to 14.1.G.1.534.
2. Root via Bin4ry v33.
3. Backup TA.
4. Go from there.

Again, you don't read carefully! and on video nobody are saying to unlock bootloader so I don't understand which video did you saw.
You don't have to unlock your bootloader, the method is for Locked Bootloader, downgrade to .534 using Flashtool, Root with Bin4ry, then again with Flashtool update to .290, then to .136 from HERE, follow the instructions.

Please, Dont. Dont make a fool of yourself. I did not said that I have SP wit UBL or anything, I just asked if "this method" which was second, was "also for UBL" just like the first one. I don't know how does that implicate that my SP BL is unlocked. You've got yourself wrong idea and you aint gonna drop it pretending that you are right. And what know? Seems like you are trying to convince me that my BL is unlocked, because I asked bout one of the methods..

I don't want to argue with you, it's your phrasing that made not only me, but some other users find it confusing too. (Not saying who though.)
And yes, it should work for unlocked BL too, but if you've unlocked your BL, flashing of kernel is so much easier.

flashed .438 ftf from bell, gained root/recovery then flashed your prerooted zip.
everything is as it should be, thank you for these updates
Hi,
Did try to flash this...
Nothing to do : only a black screen on reboot.
Probably because I use the DoomLord Kernel and not DualRecovery...
Soft reboot and then FlashTool... here I come !
Regards.
Sorry for the noob question but if I do this will I get root access on my Z2 tablet without needing it to be rooted first ?

You first need to get root and recovery on .314 or .401 version firmware, for example, by this, and then follow the instructions in the OP.

That guide worked perfectly for me before, but it doesnt work for 4.4.4 build 23.01.A.3.9 so I am unable to get root access to do anything.
Guess ill have to wait 7 million years for the official 5.0 release to hit my tablet and hope it addresses the inabilty to write or install to SD

If you don't know flashtool, Google and youtube are your best friend's in learning how to use it.
Done ! Downgraded, rooted, then flashed a Zip file for the UK pre-rooted version that another kind member compiled for me.
Its working perfectly with all LTE functionality and full root access.
Finally got there !
Thanks
Is this the latest update?

Hi there,
Can you please supply a link for the 312 pre-rooted UK version.
:fingers-crossed:
I have a question. Will the tablet remain its warranty or will it replace also bootloader? And can I use it for 511?

The ROM won't unlock your bootloader
you can not use it for your 511 (you need a ROM for 511 or 512)

Recently got the Sony Xperia Z5 Dual (E6683) - How do I root it?

I recently got a new Sony Xperia Z5 dual (E6683) running android version 6.0.1 (build number 32.2.A.0.253) and I was wondering what would be the easiest way to root it? I tried looking up guides on youtube like I did when I had my nexus 4 but I simply can't find anything. I'd greatly appreciate it if I could get some help...

That link is old and has instructions for E6653 running android 5.1.1 but I am using the E6683 running android 6.0.1. Do you have instructions that don't involve downgrading to an older version? I want to stay on marshmallow. Also I'm new to the whole rooting thing but I'm quite sure if I try to flash the E6653 firmware onto my E6683 I'd likely brick my device. I went to the instructions you posted and found that you had issues rooting it...

I don't understand, what is that link for? Would doing that even root my device? And I don't see the E6683 model even mentioned... What would following those instructions even do?
When I rooted my nexus 4 there were millions of guides everywhere and even videos of it, but I can't find anything for my Z5....
All I'm asking for is step by step instructions to root my Xperia Z5 dual E6683 running android version 6.0.1..................

If you don't want to loose x-reality and other sony functions, then you have to downgrade to Lollipop to backup your TA partition which contains DRM files specific to your device. Then you can unlock bootloader and upgrade to MM and root it.
If you don't care about all these functions then you can simply unlock your bootloader and flash patched kernel.
And that guide I mentioned above is universal, you just need to take to pickup files for your device.

I have same device as OP, problem is I can't find FW files to downgrade to LP. Is there a post here on how to root E6683 MM? I can't seem to find any. Thanks in advance.

Exactly my issue, none of the guides I've seen so far go into detail for how to go from a stock MM Xperia Z5 Dual (E6683) to rooted with MM...

I do care about those features, but I won't dare do anything to my phone unless there are specific instructions for my model. I will not attempt to follow instructions for rooting a different model since I don't want to brick it.

I haven't done anything yet, all I've done is enable USB debugging. And yea, please do update me when you find a working root, I've searched all of youtube and I can't find anything relevant. I want to be able to root my phone and install some Xposed modules so I can actually use my phone...

After you root yours can you help me some time? I'm not very good with this rooting stuff and I find the instructions a little too general which leads me to believe I might brick my phone out of a small misunderstanding...

Sure! I am still downloading the Custom ROMs I wan to try. I was able to have TWRP on my stock kernel and managed to boot to it. Of course I have done all of it after unlocking BL.

I see, well as of the thread I shared, you have to downgrade to LP for you to back up DRM, which will be deleted once you unlock your BL

How do I downgrade to LP? And how do I back up my phone's DRM? Is it not possible to backup and unlock the BL while on MM?

BL unlock can be done even on MM, problem is when you unlock the BL, it wipes the DRM which contains keys that are being used by some xperia apps. Which means that it will not function properly, or will not function at all.
As I have read, only in LP can DRM be backed up, you can search for the it in the same thread that I shared. To downgrade is the same when you upgrade using flashtool.
