Brand new Xperia Z1 android 4.3 root help - Xperia Z1 General

Hi there, 2 weeks ago I bought a Xperia z1, and it was already with android 4.3 ver:14.2.A.0.290 and I can't ROOT it, I don't want to unlock the bootloader (not yet). And I wonder if there's a way to root it, like previous versions of android, using any app or something, because I have tried some pages where you install CMW but it must be with unlocked bootloader...
now my question is... do you think that there will be a way to root the phone without unlocking bootloader?
thanks and regards from Chile.

Not for the moment, you need to downgrade the firmware if you want to root your Z1

You don't search very well. There is no direct root like Vroot or something like that at the moment and probably never will be. You can root your phone with locked bootloader with this method only, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2572988, watch the video, it will help you to understand.

well, I have watched the video, and I think I'm screwed, because of this:
- I must unlock my bootloader and I will lose the DRM keys.
- if I want to backup my TA partition I need to ROOT my phone (but I can't)
so I'm serioulsly thinking about unlocking my bootloader. (I've already the latest version so it is supposed not to brick the camera)
and about the link that @eclyptos left... it says:
Requirements:
Flashtool 0.9.13 by @Androxyde
XZDualRecovery 2.7.43 BETA or newer.
Current rooted FW version: 14.1.G.1.534 and 14.1.G.2.257 .
but my phone came with the latest version. :crying:
so what do you think, do I unlock my bootloader anyways?

Do not unlock it yet!
1. Downgrade to 14.1.G.1.534.
2. Root via Bin4ry v33.
3. Backup TA.
4. Go from there.
Cheers,
Mateusz

Again, you don't read carefully! and on video nobody are saying to unlock bootloader so I don't understand which video did you saw.
You don't have to unlock your bootloader, the method is for Locked Bootloader, downgrade to .534 using Flashtool, Root with Bin4ry, then again with Flashtool update to .290, then to .136 from HERE, follow the instructions.

Yes.
BTW, you can skip the update to .290 and jump directly to update to .136 after root .534.

unlock the phone from T-Mobile first using the following method
http://sim-unlock.net/simlock/Sony/Xperia_Z1/
then try again
The 14.1.G.2.257 Firmware is still not "directly" rootable with a tool.
You just have the possibility to downgrade on .534/.518 and use the already posted root instructions.
Either on an OTA Update to 14.1.G.2.257 you will keep rootaccess. To the newest firmware (.290) the OTA Update will not preserve full rootaccess -> only with ULBL you can root the latest one.
But be warned! MAKE AN TA-BACKUP before unlocking the bootloader.
Regards,
meet
EDIT: @Morlock O
The SIMlock does not point any issues on flashing ftf files or rooting the phone....

Yes, flash 12.0.A.2.254 ROM and get root and custom recovery via DooMLoRD's exploitation for root for Android 4.1.2. Get the recovery that's required in the pre-rooted ROM.

Please, Dont. Dont make a fool of yourself. I did not said that I have SP wit UBL or anything, I just asked if "this method" which was second, was "also for UBL" just like the first one. I don't know how does that implicate that my SP BL is unlocked. You've got yourself wrong idea and you aint gonna drop it pretending that you are right. And what know? Seems like you are trying to convince me that my BL is unlocked, because I asked bout one of the methods..

I don't want to argue with you, it's your phrasing that made not only me, but some other users find it confusing too. (Not saying who though.)
And yes, it should work for unlocked BL too, but if you've unlocked your BL, flashing of kernel is so much easier.

Backing up TA / DRM keys need root, which means you need to be back to Android 4.1.2 to get it, since unlocking bootloader will lose the DRM keys...

[DEV][Thinktank]Root 23.0.1.A.0.167 FW on Sony Xperia™ Z2? (Android 4.4.4)

Today, the long-awaited update Android 4.4.4 for Sony Xperia™ Z2 is released.
Rejoice!
But, installing this update will overrun the root access. Root access will be gone. So, how to root 23.0.1.A.0.167 FW on Sony Xperia™ Z2?
I'm gonna try the same old "Easy Root Tool" and see what happens. Any ideas would be good!
-EDIT-
Do you want to update your Sony Xperia™ Z2 to 4.4.4 but don't want to lose root? Don't worry, you won't! Click "here"
Credits to @niaboc79
Also, thanks to @funky0308 and @Envious_Data for their work
-EDIT 2-
I got root on 4.4.4 on my own, using this guide, credits @norti
@niaboc79 's pre-rooted ROM was based on Generic RU and the NC feature wasn't working on it. So I wanted to download a brand new FTF with my customization number and followed the steps on the guide.
ZBAM!
Got my own .167 (4.4.4) ROM (Generic DE) with root on my Sony Xperia™ Z2.
we will find a way...
but you should definitely put question mark in title...
we are lucky to have older fw (I'm talking for LB, z3 can't be downgrade and they will have problems to root 4.4.4. I believe we could use older fw to root fw and to upgrade keeping root...
I'll upgrade later today and will try few things...

I doubt...
Sony patched all those security holes and all those methods should be updated.
Of course, someone should try...
Can anyone confirm he upgraded D6503 to 4.4.4?
Wouldn't downloading the update through PC companion and making an ftf/downloading an ftf and then pre-rooting the firmware work? We have recovery for the phone so a pre-rooted flashable firmware should work without working exploits right?

As a few members noticed, the thread title was a little misleading, as it seemed like there already was a way to root the new firmware.
I changed the thread title to one that shouldn't mislead people.

4.4.4 for D6503 isn't out yet.
Don't bother to download that, it'll say it's 167 but you'll download 314 and flashing will stop immediately after downloading fw.

You wouldn't even need to do that.
1) Root .314 firmware.
2) Install locked bootloader recovery.
3) Make a pre-rooted firmware of the 4.4.4 build.
4) Install the firmware through recovery.

Is it for the D6502 or D6503? If I was able to update my D6503 to 4.4.4 I would have done it but I have been plagued with the same problem as all the other D6503 owners. I'm just going to wait for a UK unbranded pre-rooted firmware (or a UK unbranded ftf, whatever comes first).

They're options. I may not have made that clear.
If you have 4.4.4 and want root you have two options. You either downgrade or unlock bootloader.
My point is there are a lot of threads with people saying how do I root 4.4.4 and everytime the response is the same.

Just a notice to some folks,
1) take a look at the "root" threads, and yes, there are several pertaining to trying to get root on 4.4.4.
2) Don't call people "liars", please. We know it's sometimes difficult for new users to find the appropriate information.
3) Be a little more precise in your answers. Not everybody is a technical genius
Now, for some folks who are new to the Z2 forums, and this includes Z2 tablets as well.
There is no "Easy" root for 4.4.4. This is well known to most folks. So basically it leaves 2 options.
1) Downgrade your OS to 4.4.2, then you can use the Towelroot based root application, and a few other things. Then you can flash a pre-rooted 4.4.4 ROM and still retain root and DRM keys.
2) Downgrade to 4.4.2 and Back-up your DRM keys using the available app, with root. Upgrade to 4.4.4 and unlock your bootloader, and install a modified Boot.img, flashboot boot a recovery.img, and let it install SU and binary (or use ADB). This way, if you honestly need your DRM keys, you can re-install DRM (and go back to 4.4.2), then migrate to 4.4.4
Honestly, other than some proprietary Sony music, and the loss of Playstation controller, I really can't see a need for the DRM keys anyhow.
Those are pretty much the 2 options. And Lollipop 5.0.x will offer no other options as well.
Bottom line, be nice folks....

Actually you will loose some camera functionality such as Sony Bionz image processing that helps to reduce the low light camera noise. I know there's a thread that restore this but I doubt that works 100%. Camera is the only thing stopping me from unlocking the bootloader to root, luckily we have an exploit which works on older kernels ?
zxz0O0 just released "in dev version for Z3/Z3C/Z3CT. I hope that this should work on Z2 on 4.4.4.
Have any of you tried? damn I am on CM otherwise woulda given a shot and see.

Credits
Androplus for his awesome kernel
give a thumps u if your problem is solved
This is useful only to those who have their bootloader unlocked...
Plus this method is not new... It has been around for quite some time
If you're rooted on previous version, you can make a backup of your TA partition, then do OP steps, then flash stock kernel, and restore TA... Easy

I just found the same as all the methods to root 5.1.1 found to be quiet complex

Sorry, I am just a newbie in this.
I just wanted to know how can I flash the kernal? If you could explain the procedure
Secondly, in serviceinfo>configuration - it says 'Bootloader Unlock Allowed: Yes'
That means my Bootloader is unlocked, right?

I am rooted right now.
I just downgraded, unchecked the data, appdata and cache and flashed the kitkat rom but it caused bootloop, I flashed again and wiped all the data and cache in the flashtool and it worked.
Rooted, installed recovery and flashed the pre-rooted file from recovery.

Please mention For unlocked bootloader in your thread name.. New people will get confused and may try to flash kernel on locked BL and get bricked. You can root or do whatever you want if you have unlocked BL.. Nothing accidental..
Hi
