Hey guys,
Today I installed Lollipop 5.0.2 in my XT1068 and so far I'm really happy with it.
I'm testing the Battery Saver mode, one of the features of Lollipop that I was really intriged for. When it's on it seems to stop all background data from Whatsapp, an app that's more important than SMS for me. You don't receive any data while the phone screen is off, and you have to go specifically to the app to receive a message.
The problem here is that I don't see the option to add this app to any "whitelist" of background data and receive messages even when sleeping, as usual.
Is there any way to set that up? It's hard to believe Google would let that feature out, so I'm asking here first because I don't see any info in the Internet about this.
Thanks!
Currently you cannot whitelist apps on the Stock Lollipop Battey Saver mode. Hope Google comes out with that feature in the next L release.
Meanwhile you can download Greenify app from Playstore. It works similarly, you select the apps which you want to hibernate and then click hibernate. The apps which are running in the background will get force closed thereby reducing CPU and RAM consumption. It saves battery tremendously. If you are rooted then Greenify will auto-hibernate the apps after your screen turns off.
Hope this helped
Yes, I have Greenify Donation Package, but as of now Greenify support in Lollipop is not at 100%, because the lack of Xposed in this version. Without Xposed Framework you don't access all features I'd like to have.
I already seen some incomplete work from Google in Lollipop, like the not-so-polished notifications profiles, and RAM problems are not solved by any means.
Anyways thank you!

Here are some tips to help you get the longest battery life and on screen time possible on your S5.
1. Root and debloat (Sprint and Samsung apps). More details here.
2a. Download Greenify from the Play Store and Greenify apps that you see waking your device (ie: Twitter, Facebook, Play Store, Google Search, etc.)
-----2b. Buy Greenify donate version and you can Greenify apps and still receive notifications from those apps!
3. When you go to sleep, turn on power saving mode and turn ON the following options within power saving mode: block background data, restrict performance (with everything checked).
4. At around 5-10% left, turn on ultra power saving mode to help get you through the rest of the day/night!
5. Don't have a million apps installed, a rogue app can deplete your battery (through wakelocks, background CPU usage, etc.) and it only takes one bad app to spoil your whole battery!
6. If you don't use GMail, or Facebook or Twitter, etc alot, then turn OFF auto sync for those apps.
7a. Go to Google Settings, then Location, then Google laction reporting and turn location reporting OFF.and Mode on Power Saving.
-----7b. Go to Android Device Manager in Google settings and turn off "remotely locate this device".
8a. Turn dark mode on for apps that have this option.
-----8b. Download and install "blacked out apps".
9. Turn off things such as smart stay, smart pause (rarely every works for me anyway) OFF.
10. Keep your brightness low if possible (cloudy day, night time, indoors, etc.).
Feel free to add any.
Screenies: Was literally using non stop, to compare my S4 would only go to 3hr 10min on screen time (highest I got out of the whole time I had it). Was in good signal area most of the time, but also sometimes I was in a not so great signal area. Anyways, I'm xtremely happy with 5hrs on screen time and almost a day total! Barely had my phone in my pocket the whole day/night!
What does blacked out apps do? I cant find it on the play store.

Google... "Blacked out apps xda". They're simply what they sounds like, apps that are black lol. Helps with saving a ton of battery on Amoled screens.

All I can say is THANK YOU! I downloaded and purchased the Greenify and installed Xposed, wow is all I can say! Talk about hardly eating much battery at all once I did this. Thank you for your information.

Tempted to install xposed. Seems like a lot of cool **** you can do with it.
Changed the thread a bit peeps.
Good Day all,
I have benefitted greatly from Google and XDA. So I thought I would provide a consolidated way of saving our battery's grace from Android System demonic drain.
I am running Euphoria with Furnace, and I had loads of Gapps installed.
I tried multiple attempts over a 3 days period and did many researches back and forth. And it came down to these few main culprits:
1. Android Location Services
2. Google Play Services
3. Qualcomm Location Services
4. Google Now Launcher
5. Unwanted Sync
Tools I have used to assist in this matter.
1. Disable Service - here
2. Greenify
3. Privacy Guard (should be in built in most custom roms)
4. Titanium Backup
Basically the highest causing drain came from Google Play Services and Qualcomm Location Services. These items persistently wakes the phone up and runs on the background. Using greenify on there further cause issues as greenify tries to hibernate these services over and over again, making this a self-made draining routine.
I followed this thread on Google Play Services drain fix and used the Privacy Guard to perform those tricks. I ran through ALL Google Related Apps and as long as "Keep Awake", "Wake up" or "Auto Start" is enabled, I disabled them. I also look through apps I suspect were waking phone up by looking at the last activation of those events (Keep Awake, Wake Up, Auto Start).
Next I followed this thread on Guide to disable google play internal services using Disable Service app. I also took the opportunity to look at both 3rd party apps and system apps to see if there are services that could be disabled. I disabled Apex Notifier as I realize I didn't needed its service.
Then the next sneaky culprit was the Qualcomm Location Services. Even though I froze them with Titanium Backup, they persist in the system. So making a backup of them, I uninstalled them completely. Hasn't caused me any issue with GPS or Maps. They are namely, com.qualcomm.location and com.qualcomm.services.location. Both appeared as LocationServices 1.0 on Titanium Backup.
I went ahead to Greenify many Google Apps, namely Google App, Google Play Store, Google Services Framework, Google+. I also Greenify many apps that Greenify suggested would slow system down or appear to run in the background which I have no use for.
Lastly I uninstalled Google Now Launcher as it was persistently coming up as alternative home launcher even though I froze it. And I also went through settings of apps to make sure sync were turn off. I only kept Calender and Contacts and Gmail Sync on.
Now I have reduced Android System from 34% to 2% and increased my SOT from 2++ hours to 4++ hours at least. Not an out of earth SOT, but I believe that's decent.
Hope I helped and I wish you all the best in your endeavour to reduce Android System Drain. Cheers.
Thanks bro
Will try and give feedback asap

I didn't had time to do any research on this, and this thread appeared on the right time.
Thanks

It should be found in settings page, "Privacy".
I know that this guide is meant for CM based ROMs but I said to myself "ehh, what the hell" and I tried it on my Cloudy 2.2 and the results were horrible. Had to fully charge my device twice in order to go through 22 hours and a total of 2h of screen on time which consisted mostly of browsing and messaging. Wakelock Detector told me that the device was mostly asleep and everything was normal in the Batter Usage menu. Usually I get around 18-20h on a full charge with 2,5-3h SoT. Maybe the locations tweeks were not liked by my Tasker app and caused a huge battery drain, although it didn't appear that much as a wakelock trigger.
I am wondering if the problem was caused by Tasker or the stock ROM itself, but badly I do not have the time now to tweak around and I am reverting back to my previous configuration.

Try using GSam battery monitor to find out the real culprit. I used that to boil down to the final two irritants - Qualcomm LocationServices.
Really enjoying the app.

I just received my Nexus 6P and absolutely love it.
I am wondering if any of you have had good experiences with any utility/tool apps for this device. Apps such as Greenify, CM Cleaner, etc. are a couple I've heard of and was curious if these are helpful or not.
Thanks!
I don't use any utility apps so my response is probably not what you're looking for. There's not really a need for Greenify anymore since Marshmallow introduced Doze unless you want Aggressive Doze mode found in Greenify -- which is again unnecessary if you're using Android N Developer Preview which features an aggressive Doze mode.
Not sure too much on CM Cleaner, but if I had to use one I'd probably use CCleaner since I use it frequently on the PC and it works really well. If you choose to not use a cleaner, someone on here or Reddit reported clearing your cache every-so-often from Settings > Storage & USB > Cached data is useful and may even improve battery life.
Synapse - for use with AK kernel.
Naptime and Servicely by Franco are both nice apps.
Recently by chainfire helps keep recent apps section from being over crowded and adds some extra features.
Then you have the more common stuff you likely already use like "better battery stats", "adaway", " afwall+",.... Not sure about greenify on Marshmallow, I believe the Doze feature built into android does something similar to all apps, but do not quote me on that as I don't really know how how they work, just greenify put apps to sleep and then google calls it doze which is just another word for sleep.
+1 to the not necessary argument.
Get viper4android to improve your audio. Ex Kernel Manager is also pretty awesome. Otherwise explore and see what fits your needs!

You definitely don't need anything like CM Cleaner, those things are total rubbish, they use more resources than they claim to save. Doze is pretty good at getting the device to sleep when it isn't in use, but some people still use Greenify. I use BetterBatteryStats to monitor to power consumption, f.lux to automatically adjust screen temp at night, Faster GPS to aid in getting a quick GPS lock, and Flashfire for flashing certain things when I absolutely need to on the go.
I use All in One Toolbox to control the myriad of aggressive apps that feel they should launch/run everything i start my phone.
Thanks for the replies guys!
I plan on rooting the 6P today, and I have had experience with such apps as SetCPU, Rom Toolbox, etc. But that has probably been about 2 years ago.
What are the go-to root apps for stock android (not sure I'm ready for ROMs yet)?
1. Flashfire, very powerful tool for flashing things (especially useful for taking OTAs when rooted).
2. Ampere Measures current going in while charging, (pretty useful when my fast charger broke).
3. Naptime , improves standby time immensely (Doze on screen off).
4. Faster GPS, much faster GPS lock as I dont really like leaving location on all the time.
5. BetterBatteryStats, huge info on power consumption.
6. F.lux, (Changes colour temperature based on location and sunsets, warmer colours after sunset, less obtrusive to the eyes.
7. Adaway, gets rid of ads ... yay
8. Viper4Android, best EQ and FX processor available.
hello.
i have so many apps installed and i don't use lots of them much So i force close them.i used to use hold back button to force close on other roms.but on oos there isn't this option.
now i am searching for an app that can force close a list of apps at once when i tap.
is there any app like this or am wasting time searching ?
my phone is rooted ( with supersu ).on open beta 6 and franco kernel.
thank you.:fingers-crossed:

No greenify doesn't conflict with it the opposite it is made to be comptabile with doze mode
You have to grant access to greenify to use it properly
And greenify the apps that you see that they must not work in background
Will greenify conflict with nap time?

I think You can use both but the 2 apps have options for aggressive doze you can't enable it in the two apps
You can configure aggressive doze with naptime
And hibernate apps with greenify
Why would you want to do this in the first place? OOS handles it just fine by itself. No need to constantly force close apps...
You have 6GB of ram, force closing apps will only cause the OS to cache all the apps again eating CPU and I/o resources. If you really need more juice I know greenify has a "shallow hibernation" mode that keeps apps in memory but stops apps background activity. I have never needed these apps with this phone as android is getting better with background tasks.
i used greenify,
set on " No root " and it force close list of apps just with one click.
thank you.
Alternatively, you can go to Settings>Advanced>Recent App Management and select "Deep Clear". It may seem like a bit much at first due to its very aggressive behavior but once you get the hang of it, it just might become your native app killer and best friend !
And if you really look into it or if you use it complementarily with others apps (SDMaid, NapTime, ...) You can manage to work around its (sometimes) annoying effects (like forcing to relaunch an app after a Deep Clear) or even make it event more efficient by preventing the killed app to launch again (bootflags and broadcast receivers for instance)!
I believe that apps should complete or expand your OS, but (almost) never substitute for your OS
Hi.
Im trying to boost my phones battery, following Corv0's guide. Im too scared and also inexperienced to use ADB or AdHell. So i just disable some of the stuff but not actually removing them.
My questions are:
What do the FB app installer, FB app manager and FB services do, what is their purpose? What do i lose by disabling them? Does removing them using adhell and "only" disabling them have same effect on battery or is only removing them completely the right way to save battery? Right now i disabled all of them for a day and use facebook website instead. I think battery is a bit better. But id prefer using FB app. If i enable FB app but disable FB app manager, installer and services will i still see improvement in battery life? And what will i lose by disabling those three? Does it disable logging into games with FB perhaps? Or do i lose sth else? Does it affect instagram?
Can i disable playstore services or restrict its bg data? What would that do? Break anything? Would it save battery?
What does putting apps manually to sleep do and what does restricting their bg data do? I put Instagram to sleep, but havent restricted its bg data, but i still get notifications.. So whats the difference, does putting them to sleep actually save battery if i still get notifications?
What are some other (system) apps i can disable or restrict its bg data to save battery and what functions or functionality do i lose by doing that?
Thank you for help.
Anyone?

I removed the 3 Facebook apps that were there with ADB and it has not impacted on the performance of Facebook.
I have How ever restricted background data and battery on Facebook and Mesenger, again no impact on the performance, i still have notifications.
I have restricted most apps background data and battery apart from Gmail, Google, Assistant, Bixby routines. Some apps wont allow you to restrict like phone, messages ect.
I can easily get 8 to 11 hours of SOT with 20 hrs on battery.
The only problem i have with Facebook and Mesenger is that its not user friendly to the Forced Dark Mode in Android 10. It seems to change a lot of background colour to white, meaning you cant see comments or messages.

I see. Thx for the info.
I use the greenify app to put Facebook to sleep when I am not using it. The thing is a resource hog I swear.
This is my usage for last charge cycle.
