[BATTERY] Post your Sprint GS5 battery stats/findings/problems/tips/etc! - Sprint Galaxy S 5 General

Post anything related to battery!
Here are some tips to help you get the longest battery life and on screen time possible on your S5.
1. Root and debloat (Sprint and Samsung apps). More details here.
2a. Download Greenify from the Play Store and Greenify apps that you see waking your device (ie: Twitter, Facebook, Play Store, Google Search, etc.)
-----2b. Buy Greenify donate version and you can Greenify apps and still receive notifications from those apps!
3. When you go to sleep, turn on power saving mode and turn ON the following options within power saving mode: block background data, restrict performance (with everything checked).
4. At around 5-10% left, turn on ultra power saving mode to help get you through the rest of the day/night!
5. Don't have a million apps installed, a rogue app can deplete your battery (through wakelocks, background CPU usage, etc.) and it only takes one bad app to spoil your whole battery!
6. If you don't use GMail, or Facebook or Twitter, etc alot, then turn OFF auto sync for those apps.
7a. Go to Google Settings, then Location, then Google laction reporting and turn location reporting OFF.and Mode on Power Saving.
-----7b. Go to Android Device Manager in Google settings and turn off "remotely locate this device".
8a. Turn dark mode on for apps that have this option.
-----8b. Download and install "blacked out apps".
9. Turn off things such as smart stay, smart pause (rarely every works for me anyway) OFF.
10. Keep your brightness low if possible (cloudy day, night time, indoors, etc.).
Feel free to add any.
Screenies: Was literally using non stop, to compare my S4 would only go to 3hr 10min on screen time (highest I got out of the whole time I had it). Was in good signal area most of the time, but also sometimes I was in a not so great signal area. Anyways, I'm xtremely happy with 5hrs on screen time and almost a day total! Barely had my phone in my pocket the whole day/night!

What does blacked out apps do? I cant find it on the play store.

All I can say is THANK YOU! I downloaded and purchased the Greenify and installed Xposed, wow is all I can say! Talk about hardly eating much battery at all once I did this. Thank you for your information.

If your priority is the battery juice only

Hello guys.
Here I would like to share you guys some apps that may make your phone standby time can be more than 24 hours.
However, using this apps means that, you are just aiming for phone and sms function only. Other function doesnt concern you much.
The apps called Battery Doctor and the current version is v4 and you can get it at google playstore.
Once installed, open it, at bottom, select Mode, select Super Saving.
Then at bottom, select Saving, upper right, select Smart Saving
Inside, you can adjust necessarily.
Then go back, Tap Save Power, wait, and click optimize now.
NOTE: check what it would do first before clicking optimize now.
Mine had rating 100 (perfect score)
and the battery are up to almost 2 days now as of this posting and it still with around 58% balance of battery juice. :victory:
Hope this helps you guys. :good:
3 days now with 36% more to go
I also use Greenify to hibernate apps that keep running in the background. Helps a lot too.

[GUIDE] Extreme Battery thread AND ADVANCE SETUP GUIDE

As we all know the battery life is a lot batter in Z2 but still some one said that "A HUMAN IS NEVER SATISFIED." We like to get a much as possible from what we have... I am one of them.
So I put up a thread giving step by step guide to set up the device the best way possible.
1. Flash the ROM that you would like to use.
2. After flashing the rom, reboot the phone and set it up.
3. Flash the kernel that you would like to use and UV it by -50 mV.
4. Go to Settings>wifi>Options>Advance> UNCHECK "Scanning always available". Also uncheck NFC services in settings.
5. If you are not using location services all the time than you can do the following as well and you can enable the location services whenever you need them.
Go to GOOGLE SETTINGS APP>Location> UNCHECK "Access Location"
google settings app>maps & lattitude. UNCHECK "report from this device"
6. Install SYSTEM TUNER PRO with GREEN ICON old version. There are other apps that can do the same thing so you guys can use any other apps that supports disabling services. I use this one because of additional features.
This is the link for the latest version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ccc71.pmw.pro
7. Follow the guide in my video. The link is below: It will remove useless wakelocks from apps like google wallet, google talk, google plus, IF YOU ARE NOT USING THEM.
Video with DISCLAIMER :
I will update the video when I am little bit free from my job.
Link (If Video is not showing here): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUBpOl77Tm4
Thread with DISCLAIMER : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2357417 Thanks to SKIPJACKS
8. Install Greenify and Greenify Donation. Links are below:
You need to install XPOSED FRAMEWORK for the Donation app to work.
Greenify: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify
Greenify Donation: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify.pro
Xposed Framework: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327541
9. Greenify all user apps and some of the system apps. To greenify the system we dont need xposed framework anymore starting from latest BETA versions.
10. Go to setting>MORE> DISABLE NFC Services.
11. Open up system tuner pro.
Go to build prop>presets
TICK following:
Power saver (It will give good standby battery)
There are a lot more tweaks available that you can use as well.
And Reboot.
12. In the new greenify app there is an option to CUT the connection of the app that is waking up the services.
Now for example,
I am using swift key keyboard not the android keyboard that comes with the rom, but android keyboard also wakes up GOOGLE PLAY SERVICES and keeps it running, so I cut the wake-up path. So now android keyboard will not wake-up GOOGLE PLAY SERVICES.
SO you need to find out which apps are waking-up the system apps and cut the wake-up paths IF THE APP IS NOT IMPORTANT.
13. Disable or reduce animations from DEVELOPERS SETTING. It will give faster response at cost of less animations.
14. Use Titanium Backup and uninstall or freeze the apps that you are not using. Like : Email, ANT service, Xperia Keyboard Etc.
15. Download and install Xorware 2G/3G/4G Swticher and Interface Pro.
It automates the network mode while screen is off or on. When screen is off it will switch the network to 2G or anything you would like to be. YOU CAN COMPLETELY CUSTIMISE THE OPERATION BASED ON YOUR NEEDS.
Xorware 2G/3G/4G Switcher: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xorware.network.s2g3g.xposed.switcher
Xorware 2G/3G/4G Interface RPO : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.xorware.network.s2g3g.settings
It is an xposed Module which requires xposed framework.
16. Fix for the external SD card write permissions.
1. Use Root Explorer
2. Go to System > etc > permissions
3. Open file named "platform.xml" with editing tool
4. find a line "name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" >"
5. Add line after
6. Save it and exit than reboot the phone.
After doing all of these, I am able to achieve around 6 to 7 Hours screen on time with HEAVY to normal use with total time of around 25 to 28 hours minimum.
Brightness : 10 to 30% all times
gaming for around 2 hrs.
Either wifi or mobile data ON all times.
CREDIT goes to all of the developers of ROM, MODs, and APPs...
Nice, but 6-7hours sot with z2 is nothing, you dont even have to save power, dont wanna sound rude but its true. With everything turned off, brightness on 10-30% as you said it should be upto 10hours if you have good signal.
As far as i know , Sony 4.4.2 doesn't support ART
Yes, credit for you for this guide but without root, custom roms and undervolting, just stamina mode on, I got around 6 hours 14 minutes SOT and 29% of battery remaining. This included watching around 2 hours of wifi World Cup final on the phone, lots of web browsing, a bit of skype. Brightness around 25% indoors.

Whitelisting Background Apps in Battery Saver mode

Hey guys,
Today I installed Lollipop 5.0.2 in my XT1068 and so far I'm really happy with it.
I'm testing the Battery Saver mode, one of the features of Lollipop that I was really intriged for. When it's on it seems to stop all background data from Whatsapp, an app that's more important than SMS for me. You don't receive any data while the phone screen is off, and you have to go specifically to the app to receive a message.
The problem here is that I don't see the option to add this app to any "whitelist" of background data and receive messages even when sleeping, as usual.
Is there any way to set that up? It's hard to believe Google would let that feature out, so I'm asking here first because I don't see any info in the Internet about this.
Thanks!
Currently you cannot whitelist apps on the Stock Lollipop Battey Saver mode. Hope Google comes out with that feature in the next L release.
Meanwhile you can download Greenify app from Playstore. It works similarly, you select the apps which you want to hibernate and then click hibernate. The apps which are running in the background will get force closed thereby reducing CPU and RAM consumption. It saves battery tremendously. If you are rooted then Greenify will auto-hibernate the apps after your screen turns off.
Hope this helped
Yes, I have Greenify Donation Package, but as of now Greenify support in Lollipop is not at 100%, because the lack of Xposed in this version. Without Xposed Framework you don't access all features I'd like to have.
I already seen some incomplete work from Google in Lollipop, like the not-so-polished notifications profiles, and RAM problems are not solved by any means.
Anyways thank you!

[Guide] How to Keep Android System Drain Minimal - Battery Life Boost

Good Day all,
I have benefitted greatly from Google and XDA. So I thought I would provide a consolidated way of saving our battery's grace from Android System demonic drain.
I am running Euphoria with Furnace, and I had loads of Gapps installed.
I tried multiple attempts over a 3 days period and did many researches back and forth. And it came down to these few main culprits:
1. Android Location Services
2. Google Play Services
3. Qualcomm Location Services
4. Google Now Launcher
5. Unwanted Sync
Tools I have used to assist in this matter.
1. Disable Service - here
2. Greenify
3. Privacy Guard (should be in built in most custom roms)
4. Titanium Backup
Basically the highest causing drain came from Google Play Services and Qualcomm Location Services. These items persistently wakes the phone up and runs on the background. Using greenify on there further cause issues as greenify tries to hibernate these services over and over again, making this a self-made draining routine.
I followed this thread on Google Play Services drain fix and used the Privacy Guard to perform those tricks. I ran through ALL Google Related Apps and as long as "Keep Awake", "Wake up" or "Auto Start" is enabled, I disabled them. I also look through apps I suspect were waking phone up by looking at the last activation of those events (Keep Awake, Wake Up, Auto Start).
Next I followed this thread on Guide to disable google play internal services using Disable Service app. I also took the opportunity to look at both 3rd party apps and system apps to see if there are services that could be disabled. I disabled Apex Notifier as I realize I didn't needed its service.
Then the next sneaky culprit was the Qualcomm Location Services. Even though I froze them with Titanium Backup, they persist in the system. So making a backup of them, I uninstalled them completely. Hasn't caused me any issue with GPS or Maps. They are namely, com.qualcomm.location and com.qualcomm.services.location. Both appeared as LocationServices 1.0 on Titanium Backup.
I went ahead to Greenify many Google Apps, namely Google App, Google Play Store, Google Services Framework, Google+. I also Greenify many apps that Greenify suggested would slow system down or appear to run in the background which I have no use for.
Lastly I uninstalled Google Now Launcher as it was persistently coming up as alternative home launcher even though I froze it. And I also went through settings of apps to make sure sync were turn off. I only kept Calender and Contacts and Gmail Sync on.
Now I have reduced Android System from 34% to 2% and increased my SOT from 2++ hours to 4++ hours at least. Not an out of earth SOT, but I believe that's decent.
Hope I helped and I wish you all the best in your endeavour to reduce Android System Drain. Cheers.
Thanks bro
Will try and give feedback asap

I know that this guide is meant for CM based ROMs but I said to myself "ehh, what the hell" and I tried it on my Cloudy 2.2 and the results were horrible. Had to fully charge my device twice in order to go through 22 hours and a total of 2h of screen on time which consisted mostly of browsing and messaging. Wakelock Detector told me that the device was mostly asleep and everything was normal in the Batter Usage menu. Usually I get around 18-20h on a full charge with 2,5-3h SoT. Maybe the locations tweeks were not liked by my Tasker app and caused a huge battery drain, although it didn't appear that much as a wakelock trigger.
I am wondering if the problem was caused by Tasker or the stock ROM itself, but badly I do not have the time now to tweak around and I am reverting back to my previous configuration.

Try using GSam battery monitor to find out the real culprit. I used that to boil down to the final two irritants - Qualcomm LocationServices.

Regarding Moto G's battery life and saving tips

My previously phone was just a low budget Xperia X8 but I was used to only have to charge it each 2/3 days with normal usage.
So, after buying the Moto G 2nd Gen and having to charge it twice a day in the first days of usage (heavy usage I must say), I started to try to find ways how I could optimize the battery of my new phone.
I started reading about how what changed with newer versions of Android, the issues lollipop has and the impact services and apps have on the battery life in current versions of Android with the technologies our phone has.
I started looking into tasker and many other apps, and thinking in rooting my phone to have even more control over the battery usage, but even without rooting, I manage to make it last 3 days with normal usage (more than 7 hours on screen time heavy usage).
At that time I was like "Great! Now I only have to charge it once every 3 days just like my old Xperia X8". But then it came to me, my smartphone wasn't actually that smart after all the tweaks I had to make to save its battery.
At that point I started to do lots of tests to check what's really draining the battery and after all those tests now I have a battery that lasts 2/3 days with normal usage while having a true smartphone!
This is what you should do:
Note: I have the model XT1068 and I'm using two sim cards with it, and you'll need the app tasker for a crucial step but you will NOT need root.
_______________________________________________________________________
WHAT YOU SHOULD DISABLE:
- Disable "Ok Google" detection -> big battery drainer
- Disable the following apps:
Assist
Motorola Alert
Motorola Contextual Services
Motorola Migration
Motorola One Time Init
Motorola Notification
HP print service (you already have google cloud print service)
Motorola Init Services
Help
Motorola One Time Init
You should also disable all the google apps you don't want to use.
- Disable Wifi always on network search
- Disable Wifi every time you are not using it
- Disable Auto-Sync (you'll have auto-sync back in a more smart and efficient way using tasker)
- Disable Ambient Notifications (you already have the notification led to warn you about incoming notifications)
- Disable Audio Effects
- Temporarily enable auto-sync so you could manually disable all the apps you don't need to be synced (ex.: Google Plus, Drive, etc). Disable auto-sync after you are done with the changes.
- Disable all those reports being automatically sent (sorry developers, but that really adds up to the battery usage with multiple apps doing it)
_______________________________________________________________________
WHAT YOU SHOULD ENABLE TO KEEP YOUR PHONE SMART
(Unless you don't ever use it)
- Enable Bluetooth (Bluetooth 4.0 consumes nearly 0 battery while not paired to a device, even paired it consumes little power with newer devices)
- Enable Mobile Data
- Enable location in high precision mode (it will activate GPS when an app needs it)
- Enable Auto- Brightness (adjust the brightness slider to 60% or less after that, the lower the better)
- Enable notification light
_______________________________________________________________________
SETTINGS AND TIPS
- If you don't have a really strong 3g sinal switch to 2g mode
- Set the screen to go off after 30 second or 1 minute
- Use a magnetic flip cover so it automatically awakes your device and also automatically makes the screen go off when you close it
- Do not use apps known for their heavy impact on battery !VERY IMPORTANT! ( Use Chrome to access facebook, don't let your online messaging apps be always on, etc.)
- Don't use wifi with a bad signal, well, better said don't use any network with a low signal or else your battery will drain fast. Enable Air plain mode if your network signal is really low.
- Keep your internal storage with >600MB of free storage
- Use only simple methods of unlocking your phone (Don't use anything that uses location services, camera, microphone, etc.)
- Do not let apps being always on using network services like GPS (adjust the app setting so it only uses when you use the app)
- Get rid of any app you installed but don't need
_______________________________________________________________________
Tasker: Making your phone more efficient
- Create a profile that goes on while you have AC power connected and when it goes on it enables Wi-fi and Auto-Sync, when it goes off it disables those features.
- Create another profile that repeats from the time you wake up until the average time you go to bed, and make it repeat every 2 or more hours (depends on your sync needs). What it should do is enable auto.sync, wait 3 minutes, then disable auto-sync
_______________________________________________________________________
Congratulations now you have a true smartphone with a good battery life!

I think I didn't forget about anything, but if I did I will edit this post.
Actually, disable any unused or unwanted app and install Greenify to force quit the rest of these apps you can't disable.

For Greenify to work as intended you need to have root access on your device. For those with root access Greenify can be a great way to freeze apps you really need but are programmed to be always running in the background. Without root access Greenify to work automatically consumes a lot of battery because it needs to turn on your screen while the device is asleep.
I decided to not talk about root methods to keep this guide accessible to everyone

It's not a duplicate thread. In your guide the goal is to have the best battery life possible but for that it compromises a lot of the features that makes the phone smart, it compromises convenience of use for every 0.01% of battery life possible.
I read it and it's a well written guide but with a very different goal. The goal of this guide is to have a good battery life while having most of the smart features available.
Sorry, you have too much conflicting info in this guide. Having auto brightness enabled certainly doesn't make it a smart phone and definitely not set at 60%. Suggesting having data always on isn't always a good move, especially for those with limited data.

Auto = automatically, that's a smart feature, it adjusts the brightness of the screen automatically. Nowadays, the way it is programmed makes it way more battery efficient than before. Adjusting it at a maximum of 60% is just a guideline, but 60% auto brightness is not 60% brightness., the value is just a guideline for the auto brightness algorithm.
About the data always on, having data on doesn't require that much extra power, it only drains more power IF some application requests data. While not the most efficient solution, in Android Lollipop there's no better way to keep feature like auto.sync on without having the data always on, unless you have root access. If you have root access you can set up tasker to automatically enable and disable mobile data when the phone tries to auto.sync and/or when the screen is on.
As I said previously, this is a guide for everyone, no root access required, and the goal is to have the phone with as many smart features on as possible while retaining a good enough battery life. You can have all those features on and still have a good battery life, is it worth to disable most of the features of our phones just to gain a little extra battery life? I mean, if you really want to make your phone's battery last weeks just turn it off ^^'. Now seriously, I have auto-sync for all the features I need, I have location services apps all running fine, I can pair my Bluetooth devices just by turning them on, I can simply open the gps app in my car and it will get signal without me doing anything else, I can take a picture and immediately send to someone over the internet without having to do anything else, and many many other features I have that I wouldn't if I just turned everything off to get a little extra battery. Not worth for me, I want a smartphone, I want to take it out of my pocket and having it ready to use.
Follow this guide and check the difference in battery life it makes, than tell me if it is not worth. Well, for certain profiles I can see it not being worth, I mean if you use your phone primarily for gaming or if you don't use almost any of the feature a smartphone has, I can totally see the point in having them turned off.
Edit: Forgot to talk about the limited data plans. I have a very limited data plan, 500MB per month but communication apps don't have a limit on my data plan (facebook, skype, what's app, snapshot, etc). I never used the 500MB of the mobile data, when wi fi is available I use it and only transfer large files over wifi, so as you can see even 500MB is enough to browse the web and sync my services. If you don't have a data plan or yours not enough for you then you have to choices: 1- Get a data plan suitable for your needs; 2- Disable Mobile Data. Back to the guide, there's people too with limited data plans in their home connections, using wifi, should I tell everyone to have wi fi always turned off because of those people?
If your data plan has limitations, that's something you have to take in mind but has nothing to do with the phone itself. If I have no money for a vehicle, I have to travel by foot, should I tell everyone to travel by foot? I hope you get my point and sorry for the wall of text.

Dude, not trying to argue with you here, I'm just saying that everything you've mentioned here is also in my guide. People can pick and choose what they want from it.

I have auto-sync for all the features I need, I have location services apps all running fine, I can pair my Bluetooth devices just by turning them on, I can simply open the gps app in my car and it will get signal without me doing anything else, I can take a picture and immediately send to someone over the internet without having to do anything else, and many many other features I have that I wouldn't if I just turned everything off to get a little extra battery. Not worth for me, I want a smartphone, I want to take it out of my pocket and having it ready to use.

I can do everything you just said on my phone. I haven't sacrificed any smart capabilities, but I also get 3 days usage from my phone In fact, with tasker, I don't have to do any switching on or off. It does it all for me. That's the point of it, and why it is such a good battery saver.

Following your guide you get: No no bluetooth, no network connection during the night, no location services, no auto-brightness, no possibility to download files over wifi while the screen is off, etc. Of course people could read it and chose only what they want, but then they wouldn't be following your guide.
What I suggest in this guide is a very different approach from yours. In this guide, the goal is to have the most features on as possible, while having a good battery life. The goal of your guide is to have the maximum battery life while the phone is on while maintaining basic functionality.
Different approach, different goal, I don't see how this can be seen as a duplicate.
Edit: Oh, and to follow your guide there's the need to have root access.

Why do you need network services when you are asleep? Bluetooth is available whenever you want, just use tasker to automate it. Similarly, use tasker to automate location services. I clearly say in the guide that if you *need* auto brightness you can adjust it to your own specification using gravitybox. Its perfectly easy to download files when the screen is off, just change the the threshold in tasker. Admittedly, I didn't mention that, but If that's the only problem, I can add that into the tutorial
You don't need root access for all of the tutorial. I have a whole section devoted to basic ROM settings, which has everything you have in your op. Plus tasker and greenify sections that don't necessarily need root for everything.
But whatever, you know best.

I don't understand what's your point. You go into another thread (this thread) and start to make comparisons between your guide and this guide. They are two different guides and in no point I refer to your guide. This is just another guide, and the goal of the guide is clearly explained in the OP. This is not a contest to see who's guide is better as far as I know.
And I'll repeat one more time, to make more advanced automation tasks using tasker (like enabling and disabling network access) you need root access, specially in Android Lollipop. You also need root access for greenify and similar apps. This guide is for everyone, no root required for anything. People see it, and follow if they like. After following they check how their phone is performing. If it's performing to their expectations great, if not they will probably check other guides until they find something they like..
About Bluetooth, I suggest you to read first on how Bluetooth 4.0 works first before arguing about it. You can start here, in the good old Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bluetooth_low_energy

I don't have rooted phone and I'm using manually Greenify & Greenify shortcut hibernate & lock to shut down apps, which sometimes automatically starts. As I don't play games, listen music and chat, phone is quite usable with this setup. With KitKat (I think most is the same with LolliPop) I made a list of the disabled apps:

I tried this guide and I can confirm that there's is a noticeable increase in battery life. My phone isn't rooted, and all my attempts to keep battery consumption as low as possible in the past resulted in having a phone by far less "smart" than it is now. Many thanks rbmaster .
I really couldn't follow that other guide there were too many applications it was too lengthy, this one really seems to the best, disabled everything I was told + going to download the app tasker.
