[Q] Flashing to stock ROM - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So a while back I thought it would be better to use a custom ROM, but after my recent thread it would just be the same to root the device and use a custom ROM since I'd get updates anyway.
So I found this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2452046
I'm not sure if this is a thread I should be looking at or if it is relevant to what I want to do. I want to go back to the custom ROM and then root it. I just need pointers on what to do and where to start.
Here are some specs of the device:
Model number: GT-I9505G
Baseband version: I9505XXUEMK9
Just a last question: If I go back to the stock ROM, I'd still be able to root and get Lollipop, right?
tl;dr: How do I go back to the stock ROM and root, and then would I get updates (Lollipop)?

1. Your baseband I9505XXUEMK9 version don't match with your model number. That firmware is for GT-i9505. Verify if you own a GT-i9505 or a GT-i9505G. They are different devices with different firmwares.
2. The GT-i9505G updates come normally only for OTA. You won't install OTA updates if you are rooted but you can download them. The solution is flash the STOCK RECOVERY and install the OTA update (.zip file) for there.

[Q] Extremely frustrated, can I get an answer.

So, practically everyone I know has already updated their Samsung S4 to 4.3
None of them have had their phones rooted, but I decided to root my phone to get some apps that required root access.
With that in mind, KIES no longer recognizes my phone when I connect it and says it's an unsupported device.
Trying to update the phone from the 'Software update' in the actual phone doesn't give me a message regarding 4.3's release.
So, I was wondering, does having my phone rooted (I also have CWM custom recovery installed) break KIES and not allow me to update to 4.3
I really want to install the new firmware.
Any advice/help?

You have an i9500. Go to sammobile.com and you can download the firmware. You have to register but it's free. You'll download a zip file. Use 7-zip to extract the .tar.md5 file. Use that file in Odin, PDA slot

Goto www.sammobile.com. Look for the firmware that ends in mg9
I went to the website and clicked check firmware, according to that I have the most recent baseband version for my phone 'United Arab Emirates - LYS'
Is it possible that 4.3 just hasn't arrived to this version yet, because according to that website it just isn't available for download yet.

Yeah, you can see from my baseband version that I'm on LYS.
'United Arab Emirates - LYS' Is what I'm on.
Apparently all my friends are on XSG, or the I9505 which already has 4.3 available.
I don't see why having root access wouldn't let me install 4.3 through the software update on my phone so I'm assuming it just isn't out yet?

Since you are not rooted, it means Kn0x is probably intact.
Upgrading
1. Go into Settings > About Device > System Updates. Check for updates. Then update if it's available
OR
2. Download kies from here - http://www.filehippo.com/download_kies/ then install, connect your phone to ur computer and check for updates
OR
3. Grab any N9005 firmware from here - http://samsung-updates.com/device/?id=SM-N9005 then flash in ODIN. I have a guide here (https://www.dropbox.com/s/v8j0x3l9vrla9du/Flashing Official Sammy ROMs.txt)

If it's MJ6 then you will trip Knox...
You also have the bootloader that makes it impossible to go back to firmwares lower than MJ3(?). If you upgrade to KK then root with the latest cf-autoroot then you will be good to go. You can then flash latest twrp/cwm to put on custom roms.... Just make sure the cwm/twrp says it's compatible with KK... Same with cf-Autoroot....
This will trip Knox though...

Yup, however reading around and learning things instead of expecting to have stuff spoonfed makes a huge difference, especially given this is a pretty much a phone development site lol. 2 out of 5 threads cover root in some variation.
Just follow the directions and it's pretty simple. It doesn't take more than 5 minutes for a whole process.

Download it from here
Search your phone's model number..
You can choose any country you wish to. But do not download any firmware that has a carrier written next to it. Dont download a network specific rom.
EXAMPLE: You have to download Brazil instead of Brazil (TIM)
Then flash it via Odin v3.09 by selecting the downloaded file in the PDA section
You can find many guides regarding how to flash via odin here.
And if you have the old bootloader then download any old file relating to your phones model number.
Remember if youre once on android 4.3, you cannot go back to 4.2.2
And if youre once on 4.4.2, there is no way you can revert to 4.3/4.2.2.
Bdw can you send me a screenshot of your current android version and baseband version? (Settings-->About phone)

No dont download the unknown ones.
Personally speaking, Ive never tried them and wont ever try them
Download any, but without the carrier specified for i9505.(Singapore,Brazil,Slovakia etc.)
And you can do a data wipe first and then flash or vice versa.
I used to enter the rom first and everything used to crash
then performed a data wipe via stock recovery amd everything was back to normal
But anyways, anything would do.
About the bootloaders. If youre already on 4.4.2, you have a knox enabled bootloader. So you won't be able to flash anything below 4.4.2.
Download and flash stock firmware and see if the same happens repeatedly.
At times flashing twice has also solved issues.
And pressing thanks is more than saying thanks

There is no point in reflashing the stock firmware.
You need to fully wipe in the custom recovery and reflash the custom rom.
If you still have problems then try a different rom, preferably a non TW rom, like CM.
If you then still have the problems it's probably hardware failure.

Need NK1 modem for N900L.

Anyone who can make me a flashable zip of NK1 modem for N900L or guide me in the right direction? I flashed an old version of Modem on my Note 3 (Korean Version) and now cant get any signals. I tried a couple of Korean sites but could not understand the language. google translate is not much helping either and now I am stuck with an expensive video player only . I tried to odine flash modem file for N9005 (having the same hardware features) but always end up with a "fail" message during writing.

NK1
Cant I just flash NK1 modem for another variant like N9005? I am asking this because I saw a guy who had NK1 modem installed and was working fine on my network. I did ask him but he told me it was installed when he got the phone of the local market. the phone was running on a custom rom (Omega v13). I checked the Omega thread but It does not have modem file that means the modem file was separately flashed. I tried flashing N9005 Modem (NK1 has been released for that model) via odin but always end up with a write error. Is there any way around or can i flash it via recovery?

No modem works better than the one created for the original firmware.

Make a factory reset -> Go to Settings > Backup & Restore and have a good read. You'll see your stock backup and restore options from Google but I highly recommend using another backup option on top of these (you can find more options in the link at the bottom of the ''Backup first'' section above). You simply tap the Factory Data Reset option and read the warning text, then hit ''Reset Device'' once you're ready. Your device will reboot and wipe itself clean. If only the dirty dishes were that easy.

I just found NK1 firmware for my model but the problem is that the site is in korean and need registration to download. Google translate is not helping much. you can see the website here
Any suggestion?

Want to make sure I'm alright before flashing up a version.

Hello,
I'm running KitKat 4.4.4 AOKP with a different kernel with CWM recovery and I want to return to stock touchwiz. I'm using a SM-N9005 (hlte)
Only problem is I cannot find a 4.4.4 stock touchwiz rom for my phone. So I headed to Sam Mobile and found some stock ROMS however they are Android Lollipop I think. So I downloaded this ROM:
http ://bit .ly/1Pkq933 and my question is can I just wipe and flash it, or will that screw my phone seeing as i'm going straight to Lollipop from KitKat??
Thanks in advance.
I don't know how to attach pictures so heres an imgur link to my "About Phone" screenshot, because I probably made a mistake somewhere: i.imgur .com/DzQCDpE. png
Sorry if working around the link filter is against a rule but I'm pretty bad at explaining things so a picture would hopefully eliminate the possibility of screwing up because of my own stupidity.

Thanks so much.

1. Backup all your internal data to your pc (pics, folders, etc).
2. I recommend you use TWRP than CWM.
3. Wipe all (system, data, cache and dalvik).
4. Download, unzip and flash this firmware via ODIN in DOWNLOAD MODE then.
