[Q] Half-Bricked G2 - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey Guys!
As I finally gave up looking through hundreds of comments and several different threads I will try it this way...
I am not new into flashing, as I messed around a lot with my Galaxy S2 and especially with my HTC HD2 (loved that thing!)
Now I wanted to flash my G2 too (after 2 years with stock rom), but something went wrong. I can neither enter download- nor recoverymode. But it works as usual, even after resetting it to factory state.
It just showed me the boot security error then I was able to force restart it by holding Power + VolUP and it was reset to the state where I bought it.
I rooted with ioroot, then I tried to put CWM on it (CWM-Official- TOUCH-6.0.4.4(D802)), which I already figured out that it wasn't the best idea, since everybody seems to use TWRP on his G2. But I didn't know a thing about TWRP and I was used to use CWM for flashing, so I tried it.
Then I read that there is a problem with stock ROMS and ADB root, because the CMD showed me an error saying that "adb cannot run as root in production builds". By doing some research on the Internet I figured out that something went incredibly wrong. ( I also forgot about the bootloader.. it was a long time since I flashed a phone )
My Phone is a open LG G2 D802, KOT49I.D80220g, 32 GB.
I have already messed around with this for some time, but it wasn't successful since the device wasn't shown in the ls command, I assume it's because it's still recognized by Ubuntu as an MTP? (I read to page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
But every other solution I have found requires download mode, which I'm not able to enter (Not by pressing Power + VolUP (or Vol down) until LG Logo, then release and press again, nor by holding volUP while plugging in the USB cable (of course the device was powered off))
Does anybody have some advices?
I hope I gave all information you need.
Kind Regards
Lukas

Is your device rooted?

Yes it is.

I think you might have to short the chip to force it in qhsusb mode and flash laf.img,aboot.img and boot.img

I was in the same situation tonight. I have the AT&T variant. I found the answer on droidforum(dot)net by member HARVESTERX:
"OK, so you're booting into fastboot and trying to ADB from there? Have you tied booting into recovery (since you said that you were able to successfully flash one)? I'm on the Verizon G2 so not too familiar if it's the same on your model, but to get into recovery I power on the phone by pressing and bring the power and volume - buttons at the same time. After seeing the LG logo I have to release both buttons and press and hold power and volume - once more which takes me into the factory reset mode. From here press the power button a few times as if I'm doing a factory reset and it loads up TWRP from there.
This has saved my ass once already because I wiped my internal storage mount by accident and deleted all my backups and ROMs, so I used a Windows XP computer (can't get any other version of Windows to recognize my device...well I know how but it involves more time than I have at the computer as it's not mine) and pushed a ROM over using ADB that way. It's been a few days so hopefully you've fixed the issue... "
This method put me into TWRP and I was able to RESTORE my phone to the backup I had done earlier this evening.
I hope this helps!

[Q] Hard bricked G2 after flash

Hi everyone
I may have bricked my G2. I use to have a Samsung Galaxy S which I flashed many times so I kinda know when I mess up with instructions. This time though, things look a bit more serious... Anyway, here is what happened:
I flashed the Cloudy G3 rom (1.0) for my G2 D802 32gb. Original rom was stock rooted 4.4.
I followed the instructions :
- Backup rom
- All wipes
- Flash kitkat baseband
- Flash rom zip
- Get through the aroma installer steps
But then, when it asked to reboot, the phone just shut down.
Now it won't turn on. All I have is a quick look at the LG boot logo, and then the screen goes all black (blacklit is still on) again.
All I managed to do so far is maintaining the LG boot logo a bit longer on screen by alternatively pressing volume + or - at random times.
I can't access recovery or download mode anymore.
Plugging the phone will only show the LG boot logo and do all the same.
The phone is no longer recognized by my computer.
When I plug it, I get 13 new windows asking me to format the device and one I can explore.
Inside, there is one folder named "Image", filled with 51,4 Mb of files...
Quite confusing.
I don't know what to do, so any help to get the phone back to work will be appreciated
Thank you in advance.

At least I'm not alone
I found this thread but haven't tried yet. Don't know if the problem is similar.
I really hope the phone isn't dead, it's almost brand new
This is exactly what I have . The main problem is we can not see phone partitions. Always the alarm "can not access " or "format" !Waiting for some body to help restaure our LG G2.

Are you still under warranty. If you can't get into download mode that means that LG won't be able to either. You could process a return directly from LG.
Problem solved ...
Somehow I did manage to hard reset (vol - & power, wait for LG logo, release and then press vol - & power again) and then access recovery mode, so I did restore my backup (which had been renamed to ... 1970-05-01 ! lol) and my G2 is now back to life.
Weirdest thing ever... Kinda worried about flashing it again now !
Thing to remember : always have a backup file.
You are lucky man! I've done it but nothing after. I can access to hard reset but when I push power button the screen goes black as before ....
Is it actually in "Download Mode"?

So, if my G2 shows "Download Mode" on the screen with the little white dots, but it's not recognized by Windows 7, Ubuntu, or Knoppix, and is for all intents and purposes, non-responsive, does anyone know if it's actually in "Download Mode"?

[Q] LG G2 D800 - Gone Progressively worse.. Looks like completely bricked

Hi,
I have a LG G2 D800 (ATT Black version) which I was running with cm 11 for a long time.. Last week I got curious and tried to install CM12 on it and that's where started my nightmare.
To begin with, I think I flashed the wrong twrp version (d802) instead of d800.. So I was stuck for a while.. I finally was able to recover from that and Installed CM12. The install went ok, but the phone would freeze and turn off.. It wouldn't turn back on unless I did a soft reset.. I tried a few times and then gave up.. With the nandroid backup that I had, I went back to cm11, but the problem started to follow me in CM11 as well.. The phone was constantly rebooting.. Sometimes the phone would stay on for 2-3 hours and sometimes it wouldn't stay on for 2 minutes.. So I got frustrated and went thru' different threads and finally went back to Stock Rom using the LGFlashtool method.. In stock rom, the phone booted up fine, but the rebooting issue started happening there as well.. The phone was definitely much stable under stock rom than CM11/CM12 but it won't still power off all of a sudden and I could go a couple of hours before noticing that it had turned off.. Frustrated with it, I started all over again to root and install twrp and that's when it went from Bad to worse.. Something happened with my TWRP flash and I was not able to go to recovery or download... I was stuck...
I tried several methods. 1 ) Using ubuntu was my first try.. I followed the initial steps (ls devices and gdisk -l command) and after I ran the first step (dd if=/home/med/Desktop/sbl1.img of=/dev/sdb2), my phone went into fastboot mode and ubuntu couldn't recognize my device. after that.. I couldn't run the remaining commands..
2) since I was stuck in fastboot, I followed the fastboot method from another thread by downloading the fastboot and laf.img.... The phone was responding and said recovery erased successfully, but it kept going back to fastboot.. When I tried a different laf.img file, that's when the phone rebooted and now wouldn't turn on at all..
No LG image, no recovery, no response.. I've tried all button combinations (holding vol down and power, power alone, all 3 buttons, vol+ and power)... nothing happens with the phone... Windows doesn't recognize the phone.. It says 'lg g2 qhsusb_bulk' but that's pretty much it..
Atleast until today morning I had a LG image flashing that tells me that the issue is a software / partition issue.. Now I don't know if I have fried something..
I bought the fone in november 2013 and hence its out of warranty.. . I'm not eligible for upgrade till November and I'm stuck with using a iphone 4s (ouch...) until then... It sucks big time to go from the g2 to the 4s... any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks. I looked into that thread before. Unfortunately in my case the phone is not recognized in adb or fastboot. Adb shows no device listed whereas fastboot says waiting for device.
Lg flashtool doesnt do anything either.
Only thing is that fone was showing up as unknown device and by me pressing vol up and power and vol down, it shows up as qhusb bulk..

Go to the Device Manager => device properties of the "unknown device" => Details => Hardware ID and search the value on the internet for a driver... Maybe with a driver you can get the phone to be recognized
Folks,
I finally was able to get my G2 working from a hard brick..
My final non working symptom : Blank Screen.. No download.. No recovery.. No LG logo… Windows was showing device as unknown device sometimes and sometimes as qhusb_bulk.
Steps that I followed: You need to know how to use fastboot.
1) Kept trying different combinations of the 3 buttons (power, vol + and Vol -). The one that worked for me was to unplug the phone from pc… Press all 3 buttons together for 15-20 seconds and will keys pressed, plug into the PC.
2) This put me in the fastboot mode.. Here I tried flash laf.img with several laf files. My phone was a lg g2 d800 (ATT variant). Nothing really worked..
3) So I downloaded the Stock Rom files (aboot, boot, dbi, laf, misc, modem, persist, recovery, rpm, sbl1, and tz images) from http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime/LG/LG_G2). I flashed all these files using Fastboot and then after flashing, rebooted the phone.
4) The phone automatically went into AT&T update and at 3% failed with an error and booted into safe mode. (This is probably because when it got bricked, I accepted a OTA update on a rooted phone and I didn’t have twrp recovery either).
5) I came out of safe mode and booted normally and voila, I got the stock rom 4.2.2 on my phone.
Thanks so much to the various threads in XDA developers that I was able to fix this.. Much thanks to etm34 for this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2681089

Happy to see you solved.
All,
Even though I resolved my bricked G2, it is still giving me issues by turning off automically after a while... It looks like a hardware failure to me where it ceases to operate at times.. The phone has stayed on sometimes for an entire day and sometimes it goes off in 5 minutes.. I'm sending it to LG repair service.. Hopefully they fix it for me under warranty (even though it has been 13 months since i bought it)..

[Q] LG d802 recovery hell

Hi All,
I hoping some kind soul will guide/lend a helping hand here?
Here's my problem, I own an LG G2 d802, running kk4.2.2, rooted via towelroot.
Today I decided to for the first time to delve into the world of custom ROM's and what a mistake it was
Basically I downloaded TWRP for d802(img), gapps(d802 version), and cm Resurrection Remix and then I made the fatal mistake of using Flashify to flash TWRP to my phone and rebooting. After doing this I can no longer enter download mode, recovery mode, and when I try to go to either I get the ERROR: boot certification verify: secure booting error.
When I i plug my phone into my computer (drivers & LG support tool installed) my computer recognizes my device, however it displays around 10 or so removable drives i.e f, g, r etc and lots of messages appear saying i need to format them before they can be used and Support tool doesn't recognize my phone as being connected at all
I have searched lots of threads and now realize that Instead of using Flashify I should have used Autorec(lesson learned), I have also searched for possible solutions and the only
one which looks remotely viable is here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2582142
My only problem is I have LG G2 d802 32gb model and the files in the above guide/solution are for the LG G2 d802 16gb 10a and even then if they was the correct files I think i would still have a very hard time following/using the files to make my phone live again and also have no knowledge/exp with Linux distro's.
I am a total noob/idiot and don't have a clue how I am going to fix my phone and have pretty much pulled out whats left of my hair in despair!!
Please help me.
Kindest regards, Dark.

I am literally going insane now is there no one here that can even be so kind to say if the above is even the correct way for me to go? or point out a way which may be better or a step by step/link to things I need?
I really don't have the exp/confidence or knowledge to be bale to know if its correct or not and really don't want to make things worse by trying something that may not be right
Can find threads and websites which have similar type situation but all seem to have slightly different to my own as most can seem to have download mode or still be able to boot their OS but i cant do either.
is this below method any use for my situation?

You say in your original post you're running KK 4.2.2. 4.2.2 is Jellybean not KitKat, so which one are you running exactly?
If you didn't use AutoRec your bootloader should still be a Kitkat Bootloader since AutoRec's job is to downgrade your Bootloader to Jellybean.
There are 2 ways to access Recovery Mode on a G2 depending on the current Bootloader.
Method 1 (Jellybean Bootloader)
Turn G2 Off. Hold PWR + VOL DWN, when LG Logo appears let go and hold PWR + VOL DWN.
Method 2 (KitKat Bootloader)
Turn G2 Off. How PWR + VOL DWN, when LG Logo appears, let go and hold VOL UP + VOL DWN.
Do either of those work?

Well since you can't access Recovery Mode, you can't access Download Mode and your receiving a Boot Error, It sounds like your only option here is to follow this tutorial.
As for the files you need, you have a 32GB D802. Download this .7z package and extract it. You'll find all the .img files you need. Now follow the tutorial .

Android man screen has now gone thank god but now in its lace is the dreaded black backlit screen, and when powered off and on again still get the dame LG logo and boot verification/security error oh well was worth a try i guess and back to the tutorial you gave with the files

LG G2 Might be bricked, not sure.

Hello, cutting to the chase
Model: LG G2 D802
Story time: I tried to install ressurection remix rom through the sideload, after fully wiping my phone ( Wiped system, data, yada yada ) it showed some kind of an error about SU not installing properly, I thought well if I'll reboot TWRP will automaticly install SU for me, so when I tried to reboot it showed that No OS is installed, I thought it's a simple bug so I'll reboot to recovery again to check and bam. Nothing works.
+ Can't boot into recovery ( Tried volume down + power button ) LG Logo shows up and goes blank again ( Note that the screen doesn't turn off, just stays black, after holding it for a couple of seconds I can see screen going off completely but can't turn it on)
+ Can't turn it on normally.
+ Can't boot into download mode.
+After plugging it into an USB it mounts a D lettered drive with 63MB stuff in a folder called image with *.mdt files, modem files( I can screen it if it's important )
I'm clueless, never happened to me even though I flashed a lot of roms, I think I bricked it. Help?
UPDATE: I managed to quickly release Volume Down And Power buttons when LG appeared for half a second and hold it again, succesfully booted into TWRP. I haven't bricked it I think. Will tell how it goes <3
Hey man, how'd it go?
I'm in exactly the same situation as yours, can boot into twrp but nothing else works, i fear of the qhsusb_bulk brick but these people don't even seem to have recovery.
Any suggestions? Go back to stock? How?

How did it go!? I'm in a similar situation (but can boot into download-mode). Would love to get back to twrp, since I want to give it a try to flash another cm (stable). Thanks for sharing your experience...

Hey there, can you specify what you did exactly or where to find!? Do you mean something like this? (can't post outside links, in XDA-forum, title is "LG G2 is UNBRICKABLE NOW! [FIX REAL HARD BRICK]") Thanks for help...
Yes thats it. Lol i still got the files on my pc for my g2 i keep the whe setup cause im on the g3 now i just check in the g2 forums cause i had mine for 2 years and modded the crap outa it but yea i keep all the files on hand so if anything ever happens i can fix it almost on the fly now
Well so what happened to me that I managed to get inside the TWRP. When it lighed it up for a second I quickly released and held again that got me inside magically. So then I just transfered new rom and tried to install again. Sadly I didin't see that the ROM Im trying to install requires bump TWRP and I bricked my phone again. Though I entered download mode and flashed the stock rom through LG G2 flasher.
heres a video i made, how to go into recovery. for those that cant get in to twrp.
