Ok. This is my first time posting here in the forum hopefully i can explain this thoroughly and get some good help.
My friend has brought me by his gs4 that he wanted first to only be unlocked. It went from this simple task to a huge one. Im slightly technically inclined but im just starting with phones.
First issue. Found that alot was broken on the phone.(charge port , camera, casing dinged) I replaced his camera, got him a new charge port, and install a new back and rim. The phone now looks like new.
I then tried to figure out a free way to unlock.
I dont have all the links to what i did but this is how it went (while he was on ni1 baseband).
I rooted with towel root, installed safeboot, flashed a mf3 modem, and used region lockaway, and profit he was able to connect to tmobile.
i then flashed back to ni1 modem just for consistency.
Now after getting that issue done i handed it to him and he immediately handed it back to me because wifi didnt work. after further research i noticed that wifi nor, bluetooth , or tethering worked.
So i looked up all this fixes with the wpa supplicant file. I delete and moved files around and sometimes i would get wifi but id also get issues like the screen not turning back on in stock and id have to either hold the power button for a long time or pull the battery to reset.
he suggested that we flash a rom so i chose the echo rom from this link.
*cant post link cause im too new*
(this unit has a locked bootloader so flashing a new kernel - which im %100 sure would fix this - is not possible)
i flash the rom, the ni1 modules, the customizations, and a updated su.
when in the new rom i tried wifi again and it doesnt work.
So i then started reading more into the supplicant files and noticed the system folder version has wlan0. i tried replacing the supplicant file in the data folder with this one and still no wifi. i replaced that supplicant file with a supplicant file i backed up before installing the new rom. I go in the file and view its contents after it failing to boot wifi yet again and notice that it actually says my model number is i337. i then delete this file and just reboot. When i reboot wifi and bluetooth come back on simultaneously but when i power off the screen it freezes. I reboot and view the supplicant contents. It now has i9505 as the phones model number in the file. I delete it again and reinstall the old supplicant file and the wifi now doesnt work and the screen doesnt freeze.
i look in the about tab in the phones setting and for some reason this rom does say this phone is a i9505 but im %100 sure this is a att.
What exactly is happening? why cant i get the wifi to work properly? and when it does why does the screen not wake up?

Did you try flashing the stock NB1 ODIN? Try that first. I don't know why the Wi-Fi issues would happen, but it's best to start there and try to fix it.
Sent from my SGH-I337
Thanks im gonna give it a try tonight and ill post back if works and the full method i go through.

your friend has the Chinese knock off which is a real frankenstein. FW reports it to be a sgh-i337 but SN or IMEI say it is a i9505.
Check here and tell us what you get:
Code:
imei.info
sndeep.info
We may be able to help you out better if we know whether or not this is the real chinese knock off or not.
Salutations.
@DeadlySin9
i tried the stock tar flashing. I flash with a tar located here :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674223
with odin 3.09
it got back to stock but if the screen cuts off it still freezes and the wifi did come up but bluetooth was enabled.
@VladimirMan93
no that would be very wierd. if it was it a very very good knock off. lol. but i am about to check the files after applying towelroot

Okay so I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 from sprint, I love the phone it’s great. I was on the mdl update stock rooted and everything was working fine with wifi. Then I did a factory reset updated to mf9 (the latest update) and then rooted it still stock. Now my phone will connect to wifi if I manually connect to it and works fine, however, if I disable and reenable wifi or restart the phone or leave my house and come back, it will not reconnect to my network automatically, I have to select it myself and put the security key in everytime. When I disable and reenable my wifi it will show “secured” under my network, making it seem as if it never tried to save the network in the first place, So it won't automatically connect like it use to on the mdl update, because it seems as if it forgets it when it disconnects.
I tried even connecting and then forgetting the network and then connecting again to see if that would fix it but it didn’t.
The weird thing is that at my work it remembered the network and connects automatically and when I’m in range. And when I’m away from work I can see it saying “not in range”. Why isn’t my home network doing the same thing, and how do I fix this? (btw I really don’t want to do another factory reset if I don’t have to.)
-I have a 2wire 3800HGV-B router.

Okay well I fixed it by unrooting and using odin to go back two updates prior to mf9, then did 2 ota's back to mf9 and rooted again. all is working fine, also fixed the phone's getting too hot problem and battery last longer than ever.
it's your kernel that was causing this...for future reference, if you're on mf9 with the stock mf9 kernel and do not want to have to wipe your phone to fix this, you can use ShabbyPenguin's kernel...i had this issue before on my s4 and this worked for me...why the rooted stock rom doesnt like the stock kernel for wifi blows my mind...lol
How was it going on? Do you still have the problem with the wifi?
Perhaps you can try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...56&postcount=2 (Greatly appreciated and high credit to dajumper's work.)
This works on my I337 NI1 Unlocked Rooted. I uses ES Explorer with Root Explorer enabled.
I went to the "system " folder in the device, scrolled down until I found "build prop" then edited using ES Explorer Note Editor.

I am sorry for the belated response. I think the link might change to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2685519
I do apologize for this inconvenience. Good luck.. :good:
EDIT: I was able to get mobile data working by manually putting in APN information. Sometimes the Wifi will show APs to connect to and when I try it just stalls and then auto turns back off.
I have frequented these forums for years now without really needing to post a thing or ask a question til now. I have also looked all over the forums and subforums and google for a solution.
I was updated to MK2 as soon as I got my phone. I then was able to root it successfully and installed SafeStrap. I never really got to play with it much and from what I read it didnt really work at all with this build. Anyhow, I decided to go ahead and do a factory reset via the stock recovery and all went fine. I then decided to try and get rid of some bloatware since I cant by any other means currently. I stumbled upon SchoolSux script TrulyClean and ran it. After it was successful I booted back up to notice that my Wifi and Data wasnt working at all. I am able to make calls and text and the phone functions correctly thus far.
I have tried installing modems via Odin, SS TWRP Recovery and even tried connecting to Kies to perhaps get all stock again. Which at this point would be great. I have even tried going down to the MJ6 Modem FW with success but still nothing.
I really need some help and pointers here guys. Of course I rushed this all and didnt make a back up, I expect to be flamed for that, lol. Thanks in advance for any help.
It is the I337 - ATT with MK2 4.3
hmm
Well I was able to get Deadly Venom SS Edi. on my ROM 1 emu via SS and everything works fine. So it seems like I just need like a fresh pure install of the full MK2 build am i right?
Well I wanted to avoid this but following Ted77USA's post found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2573080&nocache=1 POST #3. I followed it verbatim even though i wasnt completely bricked, just didnt have WIFI and APN settings auto load. However, following it word for word got me back to original condition with working wifi and APN auto populated.
THANK YOU SO MUCH TED!

Glad that all worked out for u and got your phone back......:good::good:......FIRST THANKS FROM ME.....
Hi there. Very sorry to post about this - I've tried my best to solve the issue on my own and doing various searches, here and elsewhere, but to no avail. Long and short of it is that WiFi and Bluetooth both seem to have died on me.
I have a Canadian Bell Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337M). I have been installing Danvdh's Google Edition ROM for some time now, and so far, it's been great. After installing 4.4.4 (clean, after a full wipe), it seemed to work, but my phone froze up - completely unresponsive, including the power switch. Pulled the battery but then afterwards could not turn on WiFi or BT - just says "Turning Wifi On" but nothing ever happens - the message just stays there perpetually. Bluetooth same thing, except the message goes away after a few seconds.
I've tried all of the following to try to restore WiFi, none of which has worked:
- Odin reflash of modem.bin and NON-HLOS.bin, multiple times (from the most recent stock ROM for my device - I337MVLUFNE1, 4.4.2)
- Complete reversion to stock (I337MVLUFNE1, 4.4.2) using Odin - neither WiFi nor BT worked under stock either
- Factory reset while in stock
- After rooting stock, using an SQL editor to check the value of wifi_display_on - it was 0 but just to make sure I set it to 0 again
- After rooting stock, deleting wpa_supplicant.conf in both /data/misc/wifi/ and /etc/wifi/
- Reinstalling Danvdh 4.4.4 (clean), but this time with the Googy kernel rather than the KT kernel (in both cases it was the customized version, not the pure Nexus one)
- Also tried, just for the heck of it, switching to ART to see if that might make a difference - it didn't
- Ringing a bell, opening a book and lighting a candle
In other words, I am at my wits' end. If anyone might have any suggestions - even just a link to some other possible solution I would be most grateful. I have tried searching, both in XDA and elsewhere, for a possible solution and have tried everything I've found, but so far, nothing has worked. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Please note - I originally posted this in the thread for Danvdh's ROM. I didn't get any feedback there, so suspect I perhaps might be posting the question in the wrong place, so am trying here, in addition to the thread for Canadian S4s. I trust such cross-posting is OK (but if not please let me know).

To be honest, I have no idea if that could be related... on one of my I9300, directly after OTA, I lost the WiFi and BT. Problem was WiFi or/and BT, when I pressed to switch it on, was turning on, for maybe 0.5 sec, and then was turning itself off.
now the funny story: because I unrooted it and cleaned prior to OTA, it was immaculate, so I took it to Sammys hiTech local specialists.
They two times were returning phone to me, stating that they are unable to repeat the problem. So, I asked them to not send it back, and that I'll pick it from Service Centre. I used that opportunity, and asked another local master to show me how to use the WiFi on my 100% working phone. He itself packed it into same envelope and disappeard for half a time, after that itme I was informed that my phone will be sent to me after motherboard replacement.
now, the correlation: no (in theory) action which could affect hardware, obviously CAUSED damage. If I'd be you, I'd try to restore the clean condition, and I'd go to service centre.

Thanks very much - appreciate the suggestion, but the warranty on my phone ended last month, so I'd get hit for a bill for the repair.
You raise a good point - it may well be a simple hardware failure that happened, coincidentally, when I updated. Alas, I wouldn't know where to begin to try to figure out whether or not it is a hardware failure...
I have the same problem with WiFi (bluetooth works though) after upgrading to 4.4.2 today.
The only modification I had done before were CF-AutoRoot and TWR.
I unrooted from SuperSU's menu prior to upgrading to stock 4.4.2 with KIES, everything seemed to work, except now I can't turn on wifi.
Where can I get the modem.bin for a Canadian Bell Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH-I337M)?
Thanks for any help!
Here's the about screen: (Shouldn't the Baseband version be the same as the build? What gives?)

I don't remember where I got mine but it was extracted from the latest stock rom. Googling the build led me to this page, which seems to have links to download the most recent stock for the S4.
Not sure about your other question. I know when I update a new custom rom, the baseband version doesn't change - that only changes when I update the modem or flash an updated stock rom using Odin. You might also want to try flashing the NON-HLOS.bin file - I read elsewhere that that has helped others. Of course, feel free to also try all the other options I've noted above.
In case it helps other people with the same problem, here's what I did that fixed the WiFi issue:
I flashed the latest modem.bin (twice) and NON-HLOS.bin, but it didn't fix the WiFi.
I flashed the latest stock ROM, and now WiFi works.
Cheers.
Hey all! so.. my friend came from U.S and he got me a used Galaxy 4 from AT&T, and the Wifi is just stuck on a green grey situation, its not on or off
i tried any solution online that i could find. i don't know what to do anymore. nothing helping the things that are only helping was changing the router settings to a different encryption mode from WEP and then its worked but when i connected my gs4 to a different wifi connection the problem happened again
the wifi can work days if I'm not switching wifi spots.
my only solution by now was just to change to a whole new custom ROM
the problem is, that i have NO IDEA how to do it due the fact that i have a mac and i couldn't find a Proper noob guide from scratch to do that. please help me! i am a graphic designer and an artist with a MA in fine arts and i would love to help u guys too
Thank you so much!

This is what I used to get adb/fastboot on my iMac. I am on MDL build, early version phone.
You will need to find you build number first. Under Settings/About Device to determine how to flash roms on the phone--a screen of that page may help also--

hey thanks i added a photo but apparently i need 10 posts at least so just add www i58.tinypic.com/v41bue.png
the wifi is working cuz i restart it to manufacture settings again but soon as i will disconnect him and join a different connection he will go grey again
From the PM photo you are on NB1 build--
If you are going to root to flash a custom rom you will need the below two links--
Read Op page of first link, I think it depends on how the phone got to NB1 as which steps you need.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221
You will need SafeStrap in below link. So, read up on that.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448925
These are if you are going to root to flash a rom. You can only flash Touch Wiz roms and no custom kernels or recovries.
If you want to get back to stock status you will need to flash the appropriare firmware and use Odin on a PC and Heimdall on Mac. Will have to research that.
What carrier are you on and where you are at?
Was the phone ever rooted--
I never returned to stock or used SafeStrap, so someone with hands on experience will have to help on that.
Hiii....I am also having the same problem. My phone was unlocked by a guy and everything was working fine then. From next day the i could not turn on WiFi(It would go grayish for some time and then return to normal).I tried searching for it online and found the following soln
1)Reboot and check(Didn't work)
2)Factory Reset:After doing this it worked for that initial scanning but again was back to normal once wifi was switched off
3)Factory reset and installed root browser(my phone is rooted as i was able to install root explorer) and tried renaming the wpa-supplant config file
.This was worked for me for like 4 days.
After that again the problem is back and its even worse. It is immediately turning off as opposed to delay in previous case. When i tried to follow the same procedure the config files are not present.I could not on wifi even after factory reset even once
As i am a new around here detailed help would be appreciated;
My Device Features:
1)Andriod:4.4.2,SGH I337
2)Baseband:I337UCUFNC1
3)kernel Version:3.4.0-1125940
4)Build No:KOT49H.I337UCUFNC1
Hi everyone, I need a help. So I have problem with the WiFi ( it's light green ) , so I rooted my phone got Solid Explorer , and I have read in another forum that it will help if you rename or delete that file : "wpa_supplicant.conf" from the path /data/misc/wifi or /system/etc/wifi. I tried to rename them both in both directories , didn't work, so I decided to delete them both as well. It's supposed to create a new ones when you turn the wifi on but that never happend for me. So now I don't have any of those files, and even worse my WiFi button doesn't even turn any green , just stays grey. Can I restore them somehow? Or what should I do now? I'm getting lost.. Thank you!
P.S. I'm with 5.0.1. Lollipop all stock firmwares and everything, Galaxy S4 GT-I9500
Try to reflash the fimrware you are on. That won't wipe anything.
How do I do that?

Have you tried a reboot? It should create a new one.
And I don't see how that would affect the activation of the Wi-Fi as it only has some configurations stuff. It's basically a "settings" file for the wifi.
Well yes I did try to reboot few times. I have no idea how that file affected the WiFi, but it's a fact. Before I deleted that file the button was staying lightly green for a while than it was turning off, but since I deleted it it doesn't even react like I'm not even touching it (stays gray). And now there is another problem with my firmware . I bought my phone from amazon and its originally from Brazil (its unlocked) BUT now since I'm trying to fix that WiFi issue I discovered that the firmwares has the XX code for the region which I made a search for and its for Poland and etc, but deffinately not Brazil, I live in Bulgaria . I had the UB code (for Brazil) since I was with the KitKat android. And I'm confused now which firmwares should I reflash to try to restore that system file? Could that cause the problem with the WiFi? I need to say my phone updated by itself I didn't do anything. Thank you
