CM on rom slot 1? - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why cant we flash CM to Rom slot 1?? Or any AOSP rom? I see theyre builing one here http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ent/rom-fusion-v5-0-lollipop-5-0-1r1-t2961279
Thanks

Unless you have a Dev edition phone or unlocked bootloader, you're stuck with Safestrap and Touchwiz Roms.

Because whatever ROM you are running in the ROM slot has to function off the same kernel as your main operating system which is a stock touchwiz kernel. AOSP can't run on that kernel.

It has to be the same. Regardless of the slot, your phone will only have the one kernel to access.

wrong phone kernel?

ok first i installed the SACS CUSTOM ROM then ChronicKernel AOSP-JB4.2 and now my phone starts up slow and it has a hard time loading TWRP some one please help my phone is acting up.
First off this Sac's is a TouchWiz and NOT AOSP ROM.
If you flashed the wrong kernel it won't boot right/well if at all.
I haven't tried Cronic's kernel on TW, and I do know he said it 'should' work on TW but I don't know.
You can try loading ktoonz TW one.
Also.
Were you on MF9 firmware(s) before you flashed?

You can't flash 4.3 because MF9 is 4.2
As for firmware what where you on before you flashed this?
You can always flash the firmware, flash, flash the ROM then flash the kernel and see if it gets going.

Hello, you have to update your touchwiz rom to MF9 before you root it then you can install Sacs23 custom rom. His rom already comes with a Kernel I think its Agats so you dont ahve to flash any Kernels....so what i would suggest go to settings on your phone and about and check to see if you see MF9 firmware. if it does just go ahead and do a clean install, and you should be good to go.

[Q] Can I install a higher version of android with safestrap?

Ok, so this safestrap thing is confusing me a bit. Currently, I am running Android 4.3 If I want to install a KitKat rom, would I have to update my phone to the newest AT&T build, or can I install the 4.4 rom onto my phone. Also, would I put it in a rom slot or could I install it in the Stock ROM slot?
Nope. Different kernels.

Yes, you can stay on MK2 base and flash 4.4 KK ROM's via SS. See post#108 in this thread for how to flash the the latest stock 4.4 ROM for our device: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2665336&page=11
Do not flash any files containing bootloaders. If you flash the NB1 bootloader you will be stuck and no longer able to go back to factory stack MK2.

Trouble With SafeStrap

Hey guys I'm trying to flash a custom rom using safestrap but when I go to create a rom slot it says i only have 4mb free for internal storage but i have like 7 gb free. Can anyone explain how to fix?
Each rom slot is limited to 4 mb
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA Free mobile app
But the space to create a rom is greater than the free space
Ex: selected space: 5148 MB
Free space: 4 MB
Does this have anything to do with me not being able to create the ROM slot? Because the option is greyed out.

ROM slots don't work for KitKat roms
So how would I flash a custom ROM? By downgrading? And if so to what?
I think you can only use stock slot for now

Yes to get most of the apps working, like Google chrome, you need to install it from the play store and set it to permissive
When i try flashing a rom it would install and i install the jflteatt-NB1-modules.zip but i always get the error about the software not being At&t. How do i fix this?
I wasn't aware we had a 3.75. I know Verison/Note 3 does. But, will that work? If it does then I think it supports rom slots.
If you are on 3.72 you have to uninstall it before installing 3.75. Don't have any roms in the slots.
You might need jflte modules. Not sure if that changed a long with the semi-new all variant jflte roms.

What is your build and how did you root?
What rom are you flashing--you can only flash TW roms with stock kernel. No aosp roms, no custom kernels etc--

I'm on a NB1 build and I'm trying to flash omega ROM v36
I used towel root to root because I heard that was the only way for AT&T gs4 on 4.4.2
Gonna just throw some things out here as I have the early BL and don't need SS, so no hands on exp.
How did you root with towelroot? It is my understanding you need to upgrade to NC1, to root with towelroot. There are a couple other methods I don't remember.
Try an att rom like GoldenEye v38. iB's aroma lets you pick your phone and if you are on SS. The Omega rom may not work 100% on all att's
Your error is generally seen when not flashing the correct kernel. Maybe something in the Omega talexop kernel is not letting your phone boot.
If iB's rom doesn't work, you have done something wrong.
Read if you haven't this threads OP 3X's if you haven't
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2616221
and maybe scan last 30 pages or so.
If things don't start working Odin back to NB1 and try again.
See post 5 in the OP I linked for instructions.
It does seem that whichever updates one takes or didn't take dictate how you root etc
You have to flash rom, correct modules, Super SU in correct order. Maybe some roms don't need SU. Selinux needs done properly too.
Again I am just brainstorming for you as I don't use SS.
And read back thru the link I posted and maybe the SS thread of Hashcodes in Dev section and see if you missed something--:good:
I think you need to be on SS 3.71--

Sure you can, but it will leave modem and bootloader newer versions intact, which is probably good.
And you can always use Odin to flash your Stock Rom back if you find some incompatibility.

Once you have a custom recovery, you can flash anything you want except 4.3 custom ROMs due to incompatible bootloader's boot structure.

There is no common answer for this question, coz
It depends on what custom rom.

When you flash via recovery on the Note 3 it usually will not touch bootloader and modem.
If you flash a Stock Rom using Odin and your phone is also on a stock rom it will update bootloader and modem.
And yes, if you move from 4.3 to 4.4 there is no way back to 4.3. It should not be a concern since all good and actively kept roms are on 4.4.

[Q] Can i flash this?

Hello
So currently on my gm900v i have the Syndicate rom (5.0) and i was looking into getting CM12 on the phone. If you have the developer edition of the Verizon S5 bought directly from Samsung, then yes you can flash this and CM12. Since you mentioned safestrap I'm going to assume you have the retail version of the Verizon S5, so no you cannot flash this, CM12, or any AOSP based ROM.
hmmmm

To be honest i am not quite sure of it origins we got it in china and the software that came on it before i flashed the Syndicate rom just said g900 so i take it it had some custom Chinese firmware. (see attached) i have made a backup so i can easily flash to its "original" state
Alsi i am in the UK and running three mobile
Edit: also if i can not flash CM12 how can i get a lollipop rom with Nexus style i hate touchwiz i had been using S4 rom with nexus style lollipop and i like it so much better

I don't think this is possible yet. Our only hope for something other than TW is probably the Eclipse ROM but that's AOSP style.
Thanks
