How do I prevent on-screenm input, such as virtuual keyboard and handwritng recognition from coming up every time I click on an input box - I would rather just use the actual qwerty keyboard.
Thanks
First, get a program that allows you to specify the default input method for portrait and landscape separately - PQzII can do this:
http://www.nicque.com/PQz/
Then, get a dummy input panel. I use a free one called ZeNoKeyboard. Set this as the default input method for landscape in PQzII. Done
You can get ZeNoKeyboard here:
http://www.zepocketforge.com/Product.aspx?Prog=ZeNoKeyboard
An alternative is in PHM PowerToys, but there's no way to do a selective install so you end up with lots of other stuff (that you may not want) as well. The clipboard input pane is nice in theory, but does not display well on the Universal's VGA display:

Just start typing, and the onscreen keyboard will disappear
Hi all,
I don't like Diamond's QWERTY input method and would like to move them out from the first page for input method selection screen. Is there anyway to do it?
I tried to use registry to disable the 2 QWERTY input methods along with the phone pad input method. But when I pull up the input selection screen, their original buttons will become black buttons
If there is no way to change the input method order, then is there anyway to disable QWERTY flawlessly?
Please help.
anyone know?

Hello, I am developping a custom soft keyboard following this samsung tutorial.
http://developer.samsung.com/android/technical-docs/Implementing-a-custom-input-method
The default position of the keyboard is at the bottom of the screen (see bottom.png)
I want to allow the user to set the position of the keyboard.
Since the user can use his finger to draw letters, it would be more ergonomic (on a tablet) to put the keyboard to the left side of the screen. (see left.png)
I've made a little research and I don't find anything that could help me.
On android developper, they say this:
In the implementation provided here, all of these elements are placed together in a single window managed by the InputMethodService. It will execute callbacks as it needs information about them, and provides APIs for programmatic control over them. They layout of these elements is explicitly defined:
- The soft input view, if available, is placed at the bottom of the screen.

Does that mean I can't do it?
Hello, All,
Just purchased an S5, my first on-screen keyboard phone. I'd like to have some advice about a keyboard that can do smart quotes (curly quotes), ellipses, em dashes, and tabs.
Hacker's keyboard has these features, and I'm now using its Gingerbread, 4-row keyboard in portrait, but having come from nothing but physical keyboards, I'm struggling mightily with my typing.
I'm wondering if another on-screen keyboard might help, but I do need the above-stated syntax to be available.
Many thanks for any tips,
Jake

Try SwiftKey Keyboard: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.touchtype.swiftkey I use this keyboard and for me is the best
Android L Keyboard: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=uk.co.shenye.android.inputmethod.latin
Thank you for your alternatives. Can these other two keyboards make smart quotes (curly quotes), ellipses, em dashes, and tabs?

You could always get a physical I have a Tagrus folding keyboard that I carry around if I'm going to do some typing of a large amount of information, works great with both my S5 and Nexus 7 and has a small footprint when folded up. Like the other poster stated swift key is a great keyboard I use it on all my devices, you can have it do ellipsis by setting the options so a period is just a period and it has standard "" if that is what your asking about as curly quotes.
But if your going to be manuscript writing I would suggest some type of physical keyboard in the long run.
Thank you. I had looked into keyboards and found a nifty one, almost the same size as the S4 (it's designed for the S4), but it hasn't yet been released for the S5. Curly quotes aren't straight quotes, they're the ones that hook either left or right. They're obnoxious, but required for manuscript submission. Good to hear that swift key at least has an ellipsis.
Textmaker, made by Softmaker, for Windows Mobile phone is a full-blown word processor. It's as if you're on your desktop and all the arcane syntax is available. Textmaker for Android is a serious disappointment, as stripped-down as QuickOffice or the others. Not enough of a disappointment to make me go back to Windows Mobile, however

I have Uggos X4Q tv box with Android 11 and Deco LW pen tablet connected by USB to it. When I move stylus over any menu items, I can see changes of this items (lighting), but no pointer cursor. Cursor visible only when I touch pen to tablet. In some apps I can configure displaying pointer when stylus in sensor range of tablet but not touching it (hover event, I think). But it work only inside app. How to change behavior of stylus pointer across OS? I would like to make stylus pointer behavior like classic mouse pointer. May be exist some OS settings to force it. I have a root rights in OS. Or may be exist easiest way to do this by writing app or driver for it? I mean, simple logic in selected API methods, etc.
Please, help.
