It was an amazing phone, went through hell and back, but the cold temperatures and humidity finished it off. I'm sad...
Probably going to get the new Zenphone 2 or Moto G 2 4G.
Was running stock 4.1.2, tried lollipop, kitkat, ICS, JB, GB, amazing phone, I loved it <3

Dont Cha!!!

NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Don'tcha throw it away! I know, you're keen on a new one - so get it, but give the S2 one more try; if you guess, humiditiy was the last strike, bake it in the oven at around 50 degrees, or leave it a few days on/at the heating radiator - or, if you live anywhere no heater necessary, leave it under a black cloth in the sun. Sometimes it works....
naturally WITHOUT the battery
Some guy at a phone repair shop might not take so much bucks either for only disassembling and cleaning / drying the inner ....
good luck
brin,
still using my old one at cyano 4.4.4 and have a spare one from my lady who went iphone

Do not forget to donate it to someone who wants to develop for the s2 if you are thinking in throwing it in the trash. That's sad to see too...

Haha, I'll be giving it away to a friend, It's good enough for what he does, he just needed a phone that would be able to use Viber to talk to his girl. I bought myself an used S3 today, i9300, no 2GB of Ram sadly, but hey it works. I've had one before and I missed this phone <3
Thanks for your help, but to solve this issue it'll have it's screen replaced, it's cracked and the humidity gets to it easily.

My funny 8525 adventure. Please read.

I have had my Cingular 8525 since November and I love it. I live in Baltimore, MD and it has been cold and extremely windy here lately. Well I got out of my car and went to get something out of the passenger side door. When closing the door I had the phone in my hand. Suddenly a huge gust of wind comes and the phone goes flying out of my hand, slides 8 feet down the curb and into the sewer!!!! I can't believe it!! I was shocked. It was almost like somebody had it hooked on a fishing line and reeled it in.
Luckily it hadn't rained in a few days and the gutter was like 5 feet deep. I tried so many ways of getting it out, including using two mop handles like chopsticks, trying to catch it with tape, and trying to get it into a plastic bag. Eventually I taped a small gift bag to the end of one of the mopsticks and knocked it into the giftbag then pulled it up. After an hour and a half of blistering cold work i have my scratched up 8525 back. Only problem is that my micro SD card came out!!!!!
A lot of people have had success avoiding these issues by removing the sail that comes standard on some of the hermes.
Seriously though, the wind blew it out of your hand, 8 feet away?!
Yes. I hate parking near it so I thought I was okay since it was so far away. It was almost like a practical joke.

ROFLMAO!
Funniest thing ever. Very unfortunate for you tho. You should get a strap that hooks into the port opposite of the stylus and strap it to your belt or on your wrist whenever you have it. I always do and its prevented many accidents! They are cheap to.
I find it's best to keep my 8525 securely chained to the side of my head. In my car, I use a big magnet to affix it to the side of the car. Hasn't gone anywhere yet.
lol I know this might sound so stupid but I wont walk over sewers without holding my pockets inconspicuously...never mind me walking over them when Im on my phone.
I also wont talk on the phone next to the window of a car...Im afriad it will slip out or Ill have the inclination to throw it
haha

I've bricked my phone!!!!!

wow , u droped an hd2 in toilet?
Yep! old school bricking!
Remove the battery now!
Then, put it on the radiator for one week.
After that, disassemble it as much as you can and insert the mainboard and most other parts into cleaning-alcohol, you can get it at a pharmacy.
I guess other users will have more tips for you.
Thanks anyway but it's insured so it's all good just a bit annoying, and I can't wait a week as I have to fly stateside this week!
thanks again!

O2 Prem insurance really is great .. I dropped mine and had a TINY scratch but it annoyed me so i rang and told them i dropped it and got a new one 1 day later
Friends, when you drop your phone in water it is still not dead. You should IMMEDIATELY remove the battery. After that you should disassemble it and rinse all parts except the screen in distillate water and dry naturally or by worm air from hair dryer.
It is not the water that kills the phone. If you remain the battery on place the electricity in it and salt/acids i water will destroy the printed wires on the internal PCBs by galvanization for few hours and even minutes. It is just eating them.
well, **** a brick(ed HD2)

Have you tried putting your defy in a airtight moisture proof container and then stowing it in the freezer for a few hours? Worked for some people, but be careful, make sure moisture and air do not enter the container.

I had the exact same thing after dropping my phone TWICE. I put it in a ziplock bag, without the battery, sim card, nor sdcard, and then in the freezer. In total it took about 7 days for the blue spots to clear, but I took it out every 24 hours to check on its progress. I just took it out and let it dry off for about 10 minutes, then put the battery in and turned it ont to check how much was clearing.
If that doesn't work, replace the LCD.

I did put it in freezer, twice. both times the sizes reduced a bit, but not enough. I guess I need an industrial freezer, like the one they have in ice cream stores.

Hit on the corner JUST right so that the cracks spiderwebbed the whole screen.:crying:

Called AT&T to find out just how crappy and worthless their insurance is - $6.99 a month buys you the privilege of paying a $199 deductible to get anything out of them.
Oh well, glad my company had not wasted the money on that BS! And I will make sure we never do pay for that.
Ordered a glass replacement kit from Amazon THIS ONE and it comes with literally everything you need but a blow dryer/heat gun. It even comes with enough double-sided tape to do about 20 phones
Watched a number of YouTube videos to see how it is done and finally found one that did not show a complete dismantling of the phone (which I suspected was overkill anyway unless you are replacing digitizer) and went that route.
It was a long and difficult process (about 2 hours total), but I did manage to get through it OK. Until the end.
I was so excited to be almost finished and so anxious to get the new glass on that I did not look carefully enough at the glass before putting it on.
Since this aftermarket glass had no "Samsung" name on it, I accidentally put the damn thing on backwards!
So the menu and back buttons are swapped (no biggie since I know which is which without looking) and the front camera is covered up with black.
I figure it is not the end of the world since I NEVER use the front camera anyway and I am sure I will need to replace it again eventually so I will correct it then.
So, any of you who have broken their glass - go ahead and do the replacement yourself. If even someone as clumsy and retarded as I am can do it, screw it up and still make it work, I figure ANYONE CAN.
At least I provided my wife with something to laugh at and a funny story to tell her friends at work.
Thanks for telling the story sir. The first picture of the broken display is bone-freezing !
What about the proximity sensor adn light sensor for the auto brightness? Aren't those also disabled?

Excellent observation!
Probably so, just haven't noticed I guess. I may have to go ahead and get another piece of glass and redo it sooner rather than later.
Of course it will be a lot easier with none of that UV bonded adhesive to hack through this time. If I thought I could get the existing one off without breaking I would probably try it right away.

Phone fell in toilet :( help me~

You know you love your phone too much when you take it with you everywhere you go...
No I wasn't taking a selfie on the toilet!
Anyway, I tried to dry it off as fast as I could but you can't open it easily and I couldn't turn it off before it started acting funny (green then blue LED alternating)
So, went online to read about what might be done about it and not sure what is legit or not.
AT&T 2yr contract purchased on launch day
No, I don't have insurance. Currently won't power on.
Any suggestions?
My plan is to buy Nexus 5 off contract or try Swappa for LG g2 though I see that Verizon has it for 450 off contract at the moment.
I really loved my G2, poor thing sitting in a bag of rice right now, lol!
(sorry about the one sentence paragraphs)
Sorry about your issue, but how is anyone to help you exactly?
Nothing much you can do. But wait and let it dry a couple of days/week. Sad thing with unremovable batteries you can't take them out, and thus minimize damage.
To my knowledge there is no insurance for this, even if the seller says everything is covered . Sorry. It sucks.
Do note that by swapping it you give someone else headaches with faulty phone.
exacly the same thing happend to me..
I dropped my phone in a bucket of water as well.... best thing to do is open it and blow dry... alot of people are against this method because of warping the internals but all you have to do is watch out to not blow dry it to much.... if ur scared of blow drying try putting it in a bag a rice for about a week if its opend even better... mine worked a day after but was acting funny for about a week.. now its been a month and the only thing that stayed messed up is the power button.. thank god for knock on or else i would have been screwed lol Good luck and have 0patience,.. it shall work again..
Ps.. dont turn it on much or u have a higher probability of shorting out your phone n it will die forever... :crying:
Put it in rice for a few days

Jokes aside, do not try turning it on just yet, just let it dry.
The alternating led simply means it has been in water not to state the obvious but there is nothing you can do because 1 its been opened 2 water damage sticker plus crossed circuit has been tripped as well so i hate to say this but brother your screwed rice is your best bet
replaced with... same model of course!
@bachera. I only meant to use swappa to buy a new phone and not to swap / sell my dead phone.
I ended up buying a used g2 from craigslist instead of a new n5. Perfect condition and all is well. I even have a new data cable that isnt chewed through by my bird so I'm glad my old phone took a dump!
Same here
