[Q] No signal RED X All info in status shows as UNKNOWN - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hello! Long story short, I got sprint to unlock the handset for international use and sent it overseas to my brother. It worked for a while but then it stopped so he took it to a phone repair place and they messed with it for a while and couldn’t figure it out and gave back. Now I have the phone back in the US and want to use it but its completely effed up, theres no signal AT ALL.. its in the latest firmware NG2 I even ODIN the whole phone with the NG2.tar ..
It won’t respond to ##72786” it tries to pull the screen but everything is blank. The Status screen shows “unknown” to everything. The APN screen shows “LTE / SPRINT OTA” as otasn but its not checked and its grayed out so can’t select it.
What should/can I do? Please see screenshots. Everything works (bluetooth/wifi/etc) except the radio. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Did you try just flashing the modem with Odin?

Or have you ever made a back up that you could try restoring?

The only thing to do is just reflash the whole ng2 tar and do a factory reset on stock recovery. Or also when you flash untick the reboot and just manually reboot the phone cause the modem isnt sticking.

I've tried everything you suggest except manually rebooting. So to confirm, I leave everything as default (in ODIN 3.07) but un-tick the "Auto Reboot" checkmark which would leave only "F Reset Time" and flash the whole NG2 tar. Once its done I unplug the phone and pull the battery and then hold the home-volup-power to go into recovery and the rest is history? Tia!

HELP!!! I hope that I didn't brick my phone

Well, I entered the yellow "Downloading... Do not turn off Target!!!" and I started Odin v1.85 and pointed at the PIT file and the TAR file but... I forgot to uncheck the Re-partition checbox, so Odin didn't progress like it shows in the video.
I panicked, closed Odin (but didn't turn off the phone yet), started it again, tried this time with the Re-partition checbox unchecked but nothing works.
What do I do now?
Please help!
---------- Post added at 09:06 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:37 PM ----------
OK, I waited and waited and lost my patience and decided to remove the battery, even it says "Do not turn off Target!!!"...
Then, I started Odin again, made sure "Re-Partition" is NOT checked (!!!) and pressed the START button (on Odin). The result:
So, the phone is back to life...
But... It looks exactly as before. Am I now supposed to find there something new?
You have been posting a crap load of new threads and such...

I'm assuming you are trying for the clean ec07? If so, the onlything you just flashed was the modem and kernel. You need to put the 'ec07clean.zip' on the root of your sd card, and reboot int cwm (recomment 2.5 red from the thread), and apply the ec07 zip... can you get onto IRC. I'll walk ya through
Hold up, the battery has to be removed before you can do anything in Odin. Did I misunderstand, your battery was in while trying to Odin? It won't work with the battery installed.

looks like he got the modem and kernel flashed, he just stopped before he flashed the actual rom itself...

You were both correct - and @ciscogee is a genius. He managed to author the one and only tutorial that is detailed enough for n00bs like me. Thanks to him, I am now running ec07 (Android 2.2.2) on my SCH i400. Whew!
Thanks a million!

4G not working

So. My 4G data (Sprint, S4. Rooted, but stock ROM and such) stopped working. Updated PRL and Profile. It works for a minute and stops. Restore backup. It works then stops after 5 mins. Update prl and profile in the Sprint app, it works and then stops 1 minute later.
Did a factory reset (still rooted) and it worked for a while. Came home, connected to wifi. Decide to try it now and it's out.
I also had the hotspot mod installed. Used it a bit last night.
Could it be the hotspot mod or root? Or an app issue?

Oh good, I'm not the only one! Happened to me today as well, exact same setup (rooted, stock ROM, hotspot mod). I also factory reset and got it working again, but mine is still connecting, it's just slow as ****.
If you find a reason/solution elsewhere, please LMK.
If it matters, I am now showing as Custom in status and in download mode.
To above, are you as well?
I unrooted. Going to factory reset now. Is there any way to get back to stock recovery?
Edit: Also, to above: do you have TWRP installed as well?
To get back to stock recovery flash the recovery.IMG from the development forum with Odin. What stock firmware are you on MDC or MDL?

MDL. Updated in the Sprint store at first. I can't find the file for MDL. I assume I would place it in... PDA? Which slot in odin?
So now that I'm unrooted, I would flash that first? Is there a stock MDL to flash?
In other words, on MDL, can I just use the one click MDC package after unrooting to go back to that? It appears that it restores stock recovery too.
Here is a link to stock recovery http://d-h.st/Ube flash in Odin use the pda option auto reboot and f reset time. Then boot in to recovery by powering off and holding power and volume up until you see recovery booting in the left corner then let go. Then do a factory reset and cache wipe. If all else fails once booted up in android dial ##72786# it will reactivate your phone it fixed some of my connectivity issues.

Yes it will. If you don't want to just dial ##72786# and it will reactivate your phone that could fix it try that first if that fails do the factory reset and dial that again to reactivate it.

Both me and the other guy in this topic on the same day and same conditions though? Seems somewhat odd.
Same areas? Maybe towers are going through maintenance. I know my tower near my house did. I was at dinner in a high 4g signal area and I only had1 bar of 3g. Very unusual for this area. As I left the restaurant it took forever to update to more bars and wouldn't connect to 4g for a few miles. Same issue? Idk. I'm in Michigan. I do know towers are still under testing phase here. Maybe for you guys too? Just because you have 4g doesn't mean the tower is official and out of test phase.

Pull out the battery and see if you can boot into download mode by holding power and down volume. If so some warning screen will pop up and continue. If this works you should be able to recover the phone with the right tar rile.

First list what exact model number your galaxy s4 is. If the phone doesn't boot it should say on the back of the phone when you take off the battery.
Once you do that you should boot into download mode and Odin the correct tar. That should boot you right up then you can perform a factory reset.

You're in the Sprint S4 forums. You need to look for the International S4 thread that has your Odin tar file then flash that. You should be just fine. Either search here for it or Google " xda i9505" and that'll find it for you.

[Q] Galaxy S5 Stuck in Infinite Recovery Boot Cycle

I have had my S5 for two days now. I haven't done any modifications to it and have kept it completing stock. I was browsing the internet in Chrome when I got a notification saying there was a security breach and that the phone needed to restart in order to undue any changes made. So I pressed the restart button and it started to restart normally until I saw in tiny blue text "RECOVERY BOOTING....", I didn't think much of it until nothing started to happen after a minute. I let it go for another 5 minutes and then 15 minutes. I came back and still it was at the same screen. I decided to turn the device off and on to see if that would do anything, nothing happened. I took the battery out and waited a few minutes to put it back in, again nothing new. I was looking into other threads about this happening to other phones because the S5 is so new there is nothing on it doing this. But I found no useful information. So my question is, how can I fix this? I don't mind having to reset it, there's only a few apps installed. I'm tech savvy, so I'll now what you mean if you give me any tips. Thank you!
If doesn't matter if you lost the installed apps, then boot to recovery and choose wipe data reset factory and then wipe data cache.then restart your mobile it should solve your problem.

[Q] How to go back to stock? (SPH-L720T)

I have already unrooted my phone but I've been getting these update notifications to update my phone and when it restarts the phone to update, it fails! Everytime. So i'm guessing I need to go back to stock using Odin and a Tar file but I havent found any for the SPH-L720T version just SPH-L720. Does anyone know how I can fix this?
You didn't search long or hard enough. The answer IS here - even for the T version.
I'll thow this out to you.
Reason you can't update is because you have a custom recovery/kernel.
To get/receive an update you have to be on FULL Stock recovery and kernel.
If you want to get back to full stock you can try this
Got to sammobile.com and login in (register if you have to) then download the latest .tar for the T model
Then extract (unzip) the firmware file (just to the .tar.md5 file)
Open Odin
Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons. Volume up next)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to PDA slot (only file named .tar.md5)
Leave Autoreboot and F. Reset checked.
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait a few minutes.
You phone will finish and should reboot.
1st boot takes a while (about 5 EARTH minutes) then you should get the 'activate' process.

go into system settings>about phone and check your baseband (it's the modem/firmware) if it doesn't match (it should say NC6) the build version then you may have to re-flash.
Also have you made sure to upate your PRL AND Profile?
I have read a few posts abou this and it seems to actually be a Sprint issue.
Just ODIN back to stock NC6. That should do it.

It is from Knox I found that out when I tried clearing cache/data on the security message and I even forced closed it then tried wi-fi and no luck.
go into stock recovery and factory reset.
Then after booting up shut down completely.
Then boot to recovery.
Reflash the .tar (follow previous proceedure)
And see if the baseband/modem is properly updated this time.
I read that some people, after taking the latest OTA (the same as the .tar) have had to go back to sprint to have them fix it - most likely just flashing the modem.
That being said since there are some (read many) people having this issue with NC6, you can always try to Odin the NAF .tar and see if all works.
Then if you want try and take the Sprint OTA (via system settings>more>updates and check there.
I think my Device is bricked now
I followed the method which leaderbuilder said and now I believe my phone is bricked. It won't boot into recovery anymore. When the phone is turned on it says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies & try again." But when I open kies it says my device is not supported. Someone help me please. :crying:
