[Q] Charging problem - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I used ordinary low charge cable to charge my Note 4. Then when I tried to charge it with the original Fast charge cable it wont work any more.
Does this mean that the fast charge cable is not working any more?
Or I need to do something with the setup?
Please advise

A cable is a cable. There aren't fast charging cables or slow charging cables .... Try to go in Battery settings and reactivate Fast charging

Erm... Not 100 % correct.
Cables DO make a difference. We're trying to transfer at least 2 A of current via thin wires. That needs a specific cross section of the wire; many USB cables use internal wires thin like a human hair, which could cause problems like overheating or simply reducing the charging current, resulting in longer charging durations.
Samsung doen't provide that thick, stiff cable with their high-amperage power supplies without a reason.
So please stick with the cable provided with your power supply; it really is the best choice, keeping you and your Note safe.
And: Nothing wrong with fast charging !
Zyad: Try charging your Note with the original power supply using the original cable, but charge the phone switched off for the first time.
After charging, switch on, use your phone till the battery is down again. Then switch back to fast charging.

Could not have said that better myself.

XDA Mini S + USB Charging

Not sure if this is right part of forum, but here it goes.
I am having an issue with the charging of my O2 XDA Mini.
If my battery dies, with still a small bit of power left in it (enough to get splash screen) and I go to charge it works fine no problem. Now over the wkend my phone died on my and I left it till this afternoon when I tried to turn on, it wouldnt turn on at all (not even splash) because obviously the battery is completely dead. Now when I go to plug it in, it wont charge, from USB cradle, the little orange light to say that its charging doesnt even come on.
Last time this happened I eventually got it to work via a friends socket (plug) charger, rather than USB, charger. Is there any reason for this or anyway that it can be fixed that even when the battery is completely dead I can charge it from my USB cradle.
Any help would be apreciated.
Thank you in advance
Rattlehead
Sorry to bump this, but does anyone have any idea. I beleve the cause of this is due to the fact the USB power from the PC isnt enough to get the charging process started, is there anyway to get this done via the cradle.
Thanks
Rattlehead
You'll need to use a charger that plugs into a wall socket I'm afraid. This happened to me once & that was the only way I could get it to work. If you search on Google, you'll find methods that involve a stripped down usb cable, but a wall charger is definately easier.
Good luck.
Should any usb based wall charger work?
I have a Motorolla one and Ive tried that but that didnt work.
I know for a fact that when I use my friends one it works and will charge, but he aint round for another 2 weeks

You cannot charge a totally flat battery through usb cable using PC,cuz it only supplies 0.5(500)amp,whereas to get the dead battery back into charging,it requires a supply charge of 1.0(1000)amp,secondly you can only charge the phone via usb if it's working normal and not when it's dead,as you cannot boot into OS.
Therefore,it'll only start to charge with a 'Wall Charger' which only supplies 1.0 amp, your friend's Wall (Mains) charger must be suppling a 1.0 amp charge. You cannot even charge it with the Motorola usb charger cuz it also supplies only 0.5 amp.So try to get a Wall (Mains) charger to get it start charging.
OR,
Yes! you can Jump start the battery using Motorola charger, but you'll have to sacrifice the motorola charger to do it,as you'll have to cut off the usb plug of the charger cable end and attach the 'Red' wire to the '+' (Possitive) connector of the battery and black wire to the '-' (Negative) connector of the battery and give Shock Charge to the battery for 10 seconds, repeat this for 4/5 times,it'll give the battery a jump start and will increase the 'Pulse' level of the battery, after that put it in the phone and check if it loads up,if it does then you can charge it via usb cable connected with PC.
Good luck
BTW ! there's an excellent thread regarding charging to avoide the battery to go flat and saving from getting into this situation,it wud be very info for you, check it also :-

Thats great will have a look tonight and see what I can do
Here is a simple way of solving the problem, go and buy a charger, they cost next to nothing.

Bricked Desire HD - power issues!

My battery discharged while I was travelling - it went to <10% and shut off by itself. I left the original HTC microusb over seas and so I used my old Motorola microusb to try to charge the phone. After leaving it overnight a number of times I thought the battery was dead. I ordered a new battery (from Mugen) and tried to charge that.
All I get is a flashing orange/red light. The phone does not turn on.
I have tried charging on both the AC charger and via PC usb port.
Are all MicroUSB cables universal? I can't get a straight answer about this from HTC's customer support. Every time I call someone gives me a different answer which leads me to believe that they have no clue what they are talking about.
Is there anything I can do to remedy this?
The HTC AC charger is rated at 5V 1A, while my old Moto charger is rated at 5.1V 850mA. Could I get a charge by using slightly higher voltage with lower amperes?
I really would like to avoid sending it back to manufacturer warranty so if there is any other alternate route I can take please let me know.
I have some cheap MicroUSB cables and they seem to charge very slowly compared to the HTC one. There may be a difference, but I suspect the cheap cables are just plain cheap.
No the Motorola charger wont have done it any harm, 0.1volt wont make a difference, and charging at a lower current is less likely to cause damage.
Could I have damaged the phone by using a different companies' cable?
Is there a chance that the phone is FUBAR? Should I be able to turn it on if its plugged into a power source even if the battery is dead?
please excuse the bump
need to know
*bump*
I've actually tried all the different combinations of charging and they all seem to work fine
I've tried a cheap microUSB cable with the official charger, official microUSB cable with iPhone charger, cheap microUSB cable with PC, another cheap microUSB cable in my friend's car, and even a Nokia microUSB cable in all the mentioned combinations
They all just gave different current readings (from CurrentWidget) but in the end they all worked well. I'm not sure if a Motorola microUSB would have modifications that cause incompatibilities though
I also tried different Micro-USB Cables and my DHD still works normally.
me too have the same problem. I got a total of 3 diff USB cable. One give me 330mA, one give me 120mA and one gave me only 50mA. i do not mind spending the money if i know how to choose a USB cable which can give me 330mA everytime i charge. Anyone knows how to spot the correct ones?

Any Blackberry USB cable should work..
used Motorola cable many times. No issues.
Might be a fluke that u busted ur phones charging system.
The USB cables are all the same and have no effect on charging current. The charging current is determined by how the two data lines within the cable are terminated in the charging device. If the data lines are left open ciruit, the phone interprets this as being a USB charger and will therefore only draw a maximum of 500mA to prevent damage to a PC's USB port. Chargers that are capable of delivering more current (such as a wall charger) connect the two data lines together. The phone then interprets this as being a charging device which is capable of delivering a higher current and will draw greater than 500mA. If you look at "Menu - Settings - About phone - Battery" it will state either "Charging (USB)" or "Charging (AC)" depending on what you are charging from.

[Q]Defy Charging Problem

Hi I've got a problem with my phone. If I connect it to the PC using orginal USB cable it charging, transfering data and so. But if I connect the phone to the wall charger it don't charge only screen wake up but no charging on battery icon. The wall charger is orginal too. I've tried changing ROMs.
This problem is really anoying so if You can, please help me.
You write you use the original charger, but do you also use the original USB cable? It matters, cheap USB cables do not work on the Defy :-(
seems some problem in wall socket adaptor

Got to check that out, cause I've been wondering why I can charge my Defy+ in some wall chargers, some computers, and so far no car chargers. Would be great if the cables are the cause. Thanks
I use the orginal usb cable too

There's nothing wrong with your phone, ROM, or USB cable, but your wall charger is broken.
Just get your charger replaced. That's what warranties are for.
The Defy doesn't really care about USB cables. If it's switched off it will charge anyway, so the ROM doesn't matter either. But it's very picky about the current and voltage stability of the charger. That's why many 3rd party chargers don't work no matter what cable you plug into it.
I was in non-official phones service and they check charging on another adaptors but i think they were not original. Anyway as i remember when lastly phone was charging it was a storm and on the next day it wasn't working but i'm not sure.
I know this thread is old but i didn't find solution to this problem, soooo:
The answer is = turn off debugging over USB

What's debugging got to do with wall charger??
Doesn't matter from where I send it, what matters is written above
So why when I turn it on i have problems with charging?
Bug?
if u use External charger u must charge ur phone with mcgyver for 10 min.
after that use the External charger.
becaz ur battery so low.
Charging Issue
I got the same problem from the day i bought the mobile... The service center people told its charger issue and need to replace the charger. So Changed the wall charger under warranty. It took around 2 months to get my charger back. But the things are same. It sometime charge. Sometimes the screen will on and didnt charge. I tried changing different Versions. Same thing. Even the service center people have no idea about it....
Could you check if the micro-usb connector of the phone or that of the cable is clean, dirt and dust reduces or prevents transfer rate of electricity.

[Q] original cable not charging fast enough

I just realized my original cable doesn't charge my phone fast enough and I drain battery while using it. I swapped for a Motorola micro usb, and it works.
I downloaded an app to show mA rate, and with original cable it goes at about 360 or 450 mA. When I use Motorola cable it goes to 1900mA and proceeds to raise battery %.
What can cause this? The plug looked little dusty, I stuck a twist tie in and out (like on bread bad) and tried to clean it, but there's no difference.
Also there's no pin 4 on my cable, the ID pin I think. That seemed to be common for Samsung, so guys, what do you think caused cable to go bad, or am I missing something?
Also I use BlackBerry charger it says 800mA, this will charge it.
Thank you.
Could have just gone bad. Batteries go and all the time. I just had o swap out my sisters amdnmine for new ones because they wouldn't hold a charge for more than 6-7 hours. So its possible you just had a faulty one. Btw the phone is meantnto charge slowly. The faster your battery charges usually means the battery is giving out. But in your case you found out it was the data cable.
Could u tell me which app you used to show mA charge rate.

Its your wall mount. Try plugging the original USB into the moto box. It should charge fine. If not try the obvious (original box to moto USB)
Happened to me on my s3 and my s4. Sucks.. i know..

No pretty sure it's the cable. Used cable on 2A nexus charger, and it only did 300 mA.. I wonder where I can buy a good 4 or 5 foot usb cable for not too much money? The default usb cable length (3ft) is usually too short to reach the outlet for me. =(
I just googled this.. cheap 6ft samsung micro usb.. great prices from local places like walmart and amazon.
Although you might wanna add 2000mah. Lol
300Ma means your USB cable has no Power wire and you are just getting power from Data wires
460Ma is what you would get from a Data USB port
1A is what you get with a good USB cable and Charging Data port
1.2-1.9A is what you get with a good USB cable and Wall/car charger that can provide 2.1A.
good USB cable= 2core for power with 24AWG wire size and 2 Data wires at 28AWG.
Not longer than 6feet

Charging problems

I just got my Note 3 working thanks to this group. When I first got it, it was without a battery and was locked by PIN. I was able to wipe it to factory conditions, but now it will not charge. It charged right away when I first got a replacement (OEM) battery, but then, I did the system factory reset, and now it will not charge. I am using a USB 3.0 cable and connecting this to my Apple charger I got with my iPhone 6 as I don't have a specific charger that might have come with the Note 3...just a generic USB 3.0 cable and the iPhone 6 charger that the USB cable plugs into. Any thoughts for me to try?
Try plugging the cable into a computer. It might not charge fast but it will let u know if it will charge or not. Iphone charger might not be compatible so battery will not charge.

I have tried using the computer and that is part of my confusion...the phone will indicate it is charging...but it doesn't. I get the same indication whether I am using the computer with USB 3.0 cable, or using various wall charger pods with the same cable. It will show the charging symbol (lightning bolt) or, if turned off, but plugged in, it will show the upflowing green drops rising toward the battery. So, it seems to indicate it is charging, but the charge percentage never increases...only drops.

It's not unheard of for a brand new battery to be defective. If you know someone else with a Note 3...try swapping batteries with then and see if the problem moves with the battery.
There is nothing in a factory refresh that would effect the charging circuit.
