Apologizing ahead of time im a complete noob when it comes to rooting have and if it wasnt for the guides that hold my hand through the process i would not have a rooted phone thank you guys so much
So im confused as to what a baseband is the clearest response was from another forum (will not link for fear of getting in trouble) where it is explained as the "radio/reception" of your phone
1. Can this be updated? because i am still on NCG baseband and i see there is NE9 and NIx(i forgot the number) and im not sure what i am missing out on
Im sorry if this info is available im sure it somewhere but i didnt see it in my half hour of searching thank you for any assistance that anyone can provide

S2 newbie

Hey,
So I got my S2 today and was hoping for some help with rooting it.
I have a T-Mobile UK S2 which came with Kernel 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKDD-CL161513 (Kies tells me I'm running the latest firmware). Now I wanted to install CF-Root so I could install CyanogenMod on my phone but I'm not sure which version to use. From what I gather I should be looking for a DD version of cf-root but there isn't one...
Just moved from a rooted HTC Desire, but using cf-root, Odin etc is all alien to me!
Thanks
EDIT: Wrong forum >_>, can someone move this to Q&A please?
Welcome mate before someone else comes on and maybe flames you it's always recommended to search the forums for any questions you have more often than not you'll find the answer you are looking for, if you still cant then by all means start a thread and people will be happy to help.

[Q] URGENT/ASAP HELP PLEASE - Selling Phone Tommorw

Hey
I have a Galaxy S4-19500. It has the official 4.3 android stock ROM installed. I have tried to flash a stock kernel onto the phone but nothing changes.
How can I get this to stock before I sell it tomorrow?
Also is there anyway to get rid of binary count im on stock unrooted but still getting 1 warranty bit

This is an image of my software settings atm.
Your help is deeply appreciated.
Bumb bumb bumb bumb
Nothing wrong here.
I don't see anything wrong with this. If you haven't tried rooting this before with 4.2.3 then flashed the new 4.3 Firmware manually, you'll be just fine.

Why don't you just flash a new stock rom and start afresh. As for the warrant bit, i don't think you can reset it sorry.
RULE 5. Create a thread or post a message only once.
As a large forum, we don't need unnecessary clutter. You're free to edit your message as you like, so if you do not receive an answer, revisit your message and see if you can describe your problem better. Not everyone is online at the same time so it might take a while before you receive an answer. (Also refer to Rule 16)
RULE 16. Bumping Threads (posting simply to force a thread to the top of the thread queue)
Do not "bump" a thread more than once per 24 hours.
I only made two threads as one wasn't posted as a question, I tried to delete the other then realized I couldn't.
I needed help urgently i'm sorry if this caused any trouble. I just want the phone to be stock so I can sell it today with no problems.
I already flashed a stock ROM and it won't get rid of that kernel.
As for the bumping , I didn't read the rule and now I have I won't do it again.
So is the kernal i have at the moment stock? Because I remember getting it from Rom Switcher. Im not going to root the phone again.
Then why does it say installed OCT 14? Is that not a custom kernel?

Beginner root questions...

Hi guys,
Please excuse my ignorance and thanks for taking the time helping noobs like myself.
So im looking at rooting my S5 to enable me to delete the bloatware and tidy it up a little while not flashing a custom rom but have a few questions. I'm sure they've all been answered but like most things online, the more questions i find answers to, the more seem to pop up.
So firstly I've got a G900F running lollipop. As im only looking to gain root access and not install a custom ROM do i need to downgrade to KK. If this is the case can i pick any date version of the sammobile site, or should i just choose the most recent.
Secondly to root the phone should i just follow the instructions on the link below.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...ethod-t2843044
They're not crystal clear to me so are there any all out noob guides out there?
Will doing either of these also wipe my phone and regardless should i back it up and if so using what?
Oh but that link i posted doesnt work so....

That one however does!

BOC4 Root help

Phone:
SM-G900V
Android 5.0
Baseband G900VVRU1BOC4
Kernel 3.4
Build BOC4 also
Hi, Ive had my Verizon GS5 for about a year now, and I just installed 5.0 Lolipop, and I hate it.. I want to root my phone and go back to KitKat.. Ive been reading through the forum and all the guides seem to be for BAC4 or something else.. I don't see anything that is explaining what to do for BOC4..
The one guide I was looking at was this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...-to-downgrade-lollipop-5-0-to-kitkat-t3088571
Where someone in post #3 asks if it will work for BOC4, and it was stated to NCG retail stock instead of step 1.. If I download that instead of step 1, is everything else in the guide exactly the same? Im semi lost.. Im pretty noob to this, though I did root my GS3 which I found pretty easy to do..
Also if this is the wrong guide or if there is an easier guide to follow can someone link me to the steps I need?
I also read somewhere else about d/l superuser 1st? And it will not trip the knox counter?
Also do I need to backup all my phone settings and stuff before I start this whole process? And how do I go about that?
Thanks
**Edit: Is there also a way to backup all my setting like handcent and stuff so that I don't have to reconfigure all my font settings and colors and backrounds and so on?
Ok so I backup up my phone with Samsung kies, just hoping someone can point me to the proper guide to go from 5.0 BOC4 to Rooted Kit Kat
Thanks
Ok sorry for multiple replies here.. But Ive seemed to get myself now onto
Android : 4.4.2
Baseband: G900VVRU1ANCG
Build: KOT49H.G900VVRU1ANCG
I haven't gotten any feedback here so far, but maybe from this point someone can tell me how to root and get to 4.44 from here???
Please and thanks
you could try this thread for what you want: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2784880
sorry if i can't remember which firmware after NCG leads to 4.4.4
Thanks for the reply.. I am really lost at the moment..
So after I got my phone to this point:
Android : 4.4.2
Baseband: G900VVRU1ANCG
Build: KOT49H.G900VVRU1ANCG
I then d/l towelroot and made it rain. It seemed to work.. From there I then flashed (I think) the NI2 Firmware only kenrnel.tar file..
*EDIT
So now my phone says
Android: 4.4.2
Baseband :G900VVRU1ANI2
Build: KOT49H.G900VVRU1ANCG
Is this right? My baseband is NI2 and Build is NCG???? Im lost?
I then downloaded a root checker from the play store and ran it, and it said my phone was rooted.. I finally now was able to run SuperSu Pro, and it asked about updating binaries, and i clicked "normal", it then asked me the Knox detect, and I said disable..
So how do I get to 4.4.4 from here? And Im assuming im fully rooted?
I can see that nobody wants to help a noob at this, but it would really be great if someone can tell me where to go from here?
Please and Thanks

Newbie here, questions about "slots", flashing, and builds.

Hello all,
My first post and my first galaxy s5! I just got my s5 (unlocked, used) and am already tired of all the verizon stuff that I can't or don't want to use. I looked into rooting it and it seems like I will be able to. But now I started looking into adding a new rom and am very confused. (So confused I don't know where to start) In the forums here I have read some cool stuff but also they use a lot of abbreviations for programs and such that I am not familiar with. Anyway, I have read references to "Slots", what are those and how do I make them? It seems like it would be useful and maybe help me not brick my phone.
How can I tell which roms I can flash (correct term?) to my phone? If I have an older build, can I add a newer build and do I want to? (I've read that the latest builds make the phone non rootable)
I know, a lot of questions. Please point me in the right direction.
Below is my phone info:
Samsung SM-G900V
Android 5.0
Baseband version G900VVRU1B0C4
Kernal 3.4.0
Build # LRX21T.G900VVRU1B0C4
Hardware version G900V.05
Anything else?
All your help is greatly appreciated.
Don't update the phone! As long as you are below oe1 (you are) you can still downgrade and root. Then install safestrap (where the slots come in) but most people use the stock slot. You can flash roms on that slot. Check the catchall thread for specifics.
Ok,
I will try to root it. then get back to you guys.
Thanks
Ok,
So after an interesting and sometimes frustrating night of downloading and flashing, my phone is rooted and now is android 4.4.2 with a build of KOT49H.G900VVRU1ANCG. I guess the next step is finding and installing safestrap? (Final goal would be to flash a non verizon rom with no bloatware and all the desired functions of my phone available.)
Thanks.
There's a safestrap thread in android development section. There was a revised build that was uploaded that you should use
Thank you, I will look it up.
I have since uploaded rooted 5.0 using this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...w-to-update-to-g900voe1-5-0-keeproot-t3149784 .
Now, safestrap and custom rom. Thanks all!
Hi all,
I am now on 15-4 and moving to 15-5. I was wondering, is there a "visual voicemail" type app that would work for a non verizon account?
