[Q] Plex not loading on Nexus Player - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I went a got a new Nexus Player so I could use it for Plex and popcorn time. I'm enjoying he Nexus mostly except for the fact I'm unable to log into Plex, no matter how many times I try and uninstall plex and reinstall it It just loops back the the main screen. Has anyone else had this problem , Should I just use XBMC/ Kodi instead?

Have you tried going into settings>apps and clearing all data on the Plex app? Are you installing from the play store or sideloading?
I haven't had this problem with Plex on the Nexus Player.

I have cleared all data as well as factory reset many times. I've installed it from the play store as well as side loaded it. when I go into the plex app it asks my to goto the plex site and get the pin, after i get the pin i try to log on to the app with username and password. and it just jumps back to the main screen. I have set up on all my pc's and tv's and roku but cant get it to load/ login on nexus player.

Once you enter the PIN on the website it should just automatically load, there is no need to login with username password after that.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Plex several times trying to get the TV layout that you can on a tablet (no success ) and every time I need to re add the NP to Plex with the PIN. Once you use the PIN it auto starts.
If you click the sign in button then you need your user name and password, which I have also done with no issues.

Thanks Sleeepy2 , But that's when it kicks me out , when I enter the PIN, as soon as I enter the PIN on the web page it kicks me back to the main page on the nexus player. So then i uninstall and reinstall or factory reset and try it again and it kicks me back , so then I try using my username and password, or email address and password and it still just kicks back to the main NP screen . I have no problem logging on to plex on every other device i own just not Nexus Player.
Thank you

I've got plex working on my NP as well. Are you installing anything before you setup plex, or on some specific DNS / VPN setup?

Hey midnightzak,
It's just a fresh install , nothing else is loaded, no VPN's no special DNS setting just plain Jane set up. I plug it in , pair the remote, enter my wifi password, enter in my google account password , it loads up to the main screen I go to the play store, install the plex app, open the plex app it asks to goto the web page to enter the pin, I go to the web page enter the PIN , the webpage says new Android device connected, the Plex app on the Nexus Player closes and I'm back to the main page and when I try to open the Plex app again it says the same thing to go to the web page to enter the pin or sign in so I try to sign in instead and it closes the app and goes to the main page again. I have other Plex items in the house that all work fine, but for what ever reason Plex on this Nexus Player will not load.

Same issue as me I'm sure. You must be a Plex Pass Member to use it. If you're not it doesn't say so in any way, it just throws you out to the main menu - awesome programming

Didn't even think of that. There are two versions of plex apps, one for pass members and one for non.
You'll want to find "Plex for Android" and not "Plex for Plex Pass"

Nexus 7's Chrome will not redirect for Wifi Authentication

The wifi at my university either prompts devices for a log in or redirects the browser to a log in page to fully access the wifi. I cannot for the life of me, get my nexus 7 to fully connect. No prompts and chrome will not redirect. Any help would be appreciated!!
Typically on my laptop or other tablets in my University, whenever I connect to the Wi-Fi either a pop-up prompt appears where I can enter my log in info or I go on to my browser (also chrome) and enter a website liek facebook or yahoo and it will redirect to the University's Wifi page and I can log in from there.
My Nexus 7 doesn't have a pop-up prompt when I connect to the wifi nor does the Chrome redirect. Any tips?
That's weird. I connected to the harvard medical school network at where I work and when I tried going to a web page (espn), the redirect occurred and I could sign in. Don't know why it isn't working for you

I have no idea why, I'm connected to Cornell Medical School wifi as well, and typically i'd have to type in my log in and my password when Chrome redirects me but it's not redirecting. It keeps saying This Webpage is Not Available because the DNS Look up failed."
I get an error on the bottom of Chrome stating: "Error 105 (net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED): Unable to resole the server's DNS address."
Trying using Firefox to authenticate instead. Once you do Chrome will work fine (just not for the authentication part).
Quick idea:
At Eastern Washington University there's an open access AP and a secure AP. When you use open, you are redirected to a student sign on page.
When you use secure, there is no page redirect, as you login using some fancy WiFi security protocol with the same user/pass combo from open. (Tablet remembers network auth and auto-reconnects when in range with no redirects) Maybe just check to see if you have that available?
Also, try forgetting/disconnecting from your network so it doesn't reconnect; then manually reconnect to it. This would hopefully flush any DNS configuration your tablet may have erroneously stored.

Thanks everyone, for suggesting the use of other browsers such as Opera to help me redirect. However, I downloaded Opera and Dolphin browser (couldn't find Firefox for some reason) and both of them will not redirect me to the log in page. But my iPhone is able to connect. Any tips? Any help would be appreciated!! (Sorry this is my first Android device)
Can someone please solve this issue? Or at least give an explanation why the nexus 7 has issues with certain open networks?
If you're going to an encrypted (https) page, you won't redirect. Try going to www.google.com instead of your homepage (gmail can be set to https).
Its not encrypted. Just a standard login. I really have no clue what is going on. I tried setting a static IP and using google's DNS as well as open DNS which helped a bit (I occasionally get th elogin screen now, but it doesn't do anything for me).
Has anyone ever solved this issue?
Mine redirects just fine. I have to select the network in the WiFi settings, and then open the browser, though.

Not sure from your answer if you understood me. If the page you're trying to get redirected FROM is HTTPS, it won't redirect. Navigate to google.com and see if you redirect (since that's never https).
That page is not https. It is standard HTTP.
Before I wouldn't even get that page. Now I reliably get that page (the authentication/acceptance of policy page) since I changed the DNS settings for open DNS (another site recommended using google's DNS or using open DNS). However after I hit accept, it doesn't do anything and just times out after 5 mins or so.
This should work
idk if I'm late in answering this but next time you log in from any device look for the router number and type that in the web browser on the device it isn't connecting on and that should redirect you
Is there any hope? Android is just impossible when it comes to wifi. Sometimes it brings up the login page. But if it doesn't bring up the login page, you will never get connected.
Here's a sample experience.
I'm at a coffee shop trying to connect my oneplus one, which has cyanogen12.0-yng1tas17l
Some things I tried: I opened wpa_supplicant.conf with a text editor and deleted this coffee shop's network. I tried to connect using the app "wifi browser login." I went to settings--modify network--advanced options--ip settings to find the gateway, ip address and dns of the coffee shop, and tried typing them into the browser. Nothing works.
This failure to load the login page is a problem that affects android in general, not just the oneplus one or cyanogen. I have problems with the nexus 7 sometimes too. I've been searching for a solution for years. The silence is deafening.

HTPC control with my N7 that works at Windows login?

Picked mine up a few days ago and I love it. The only thing I'm having trouble finding an app for is the following: an app that turns the tablet into a keyboard/mouse for my HTPC. The catch is that I need something that will connect and work at the Windows login screen. Unified Remote doesn't work until you're logged in. I already have UltraVNC setup on the HTPC, and my wife's Ipad has an app called Touchpad that works at the login screen, but I haven't found one on Android yet. I tried a couple straight up VNC clients, including Jump Desktop, these appear to be "viewers", so they clone the desktop screen on my N7. I don't want that, because it gets all laggy when I go to play a movie or something on the TV.
Anybody have an app to recommend?
PS - the reason I need it to work from the login screen is because during the day at work I remote into the machine with my "normal" account for email/browsing, and I keep normal Win7 settings. When I get home, I login to my "HTPC" account, which is optimized with larger text, media center, xbmc, etc. If this is a dumb reason with a better solution let me know that too.

Okay so on another forum I was told to use Unified Remote, but set a task in the task scheduler to start the unified remote server on machine startup, and give it admin credentials. I tried this to no avail. The app says it is connected while at the login screen, but doesn't work until I'm logged in.
Is the issue that the unified remote server isn't built in a manner that windows will allow it access when not logged in? If so, does that mean I need an android app that runs off of UltraVNC?

Streaming Media From PC To The Nexus 4?

I did a search and couldn't find what I was looking for hence the new post.
Basically I want to be able to stream my media to my phone from my home PC. Also I want the ability to stream media over the internet via my cellular data connection too when required. Similar stuff to what Air Video does on iPhone.
One of you recommended me ES File Explorer but this relies on a static IP address for my computer serving the media which I don't want to set up.
Any way of doing it using the computer name?
Have you tried Plex ??
No Static IP, or Computer Name Required...
You install the Plex Server on your Computer (Make sure you download the SERVER, and not the Media Center)
Install, tell the Server where to find you files (Music and/or Videos) and it will start loggin them all (even download posters/album art)
Then you install the Plex Android app on your phone (This Cost a few $ via the Play Store)
Sign up for a Free myPlex account, then Sign into it via the Plex Server, and the Android App... then all of your media is available locally or over the internet...
Plex will even stream to a PS3 (or any DLNA enabled Device)
The few $ for the Android App is work it. Plex works way better than most of the free alternatives (I think there are like 2) and Plex also Transcodes videos so you don't have to worry about format problems..
Although I use DicePlayer so it handles pretty much all videos

No... not without some service for dynamic DNS management.
How often is your ip address changed by your provider? Mine rarely changes and I simply have Tasker check it every time I leave the house and stuff the value into a global. Of course, if you are on the road for long periods of time when your ip might be changed... that won't help. If this is your case you will need a server side process like the aforementioned Plex, or more simply, an account with a service like DynDNS.org. I prefer the latter as I want more access to my server (VNC, full file access, and connection to a home built http server for home automation) than Plex would allow.
You could also cron a shell script to get the current address periodically and send you a message if it changes, of course you would have to manually set the ip in ES File Explorer (or other client) when that address changes. In my case, it simply does not happen often enough for me to need set up any of this.
Try ghostcommander. You can just enter your computer name login and password. Easy peasy.

That's on a LAN, right?
Qloud is one of the best apps I've used for streaming video and music. The music player could be better but the video player can play any file format and it is an awesome app. Check it out in the play store they have a free version so you can test it out before you buy.

I've tried Qloud already but had no luck with getting it to work.
Plex sounds pretty good actually. I just want to try before I buy it though.

Thin Client Usage: Password?

Installed Lollirock. Runs a 1920x1080 Microsoft RDP session great. Using Parallels for interface preference. Works great with a mouse and keyboard. Even streams audio/video fine.
However, for real world deployment, even the Nexus Player needs a password so random people can't just hop online and play on the network.
I've created users accounts, and tried setting passwords, but they don't work, or don't get prompted for. Switching users does not prompt for a password. Rebooting the device takes me right back into the primary user account, without entering it's password. Essentially, at no time can I get the password prompt to come up... I've even installed screen off/lock apps to no avail.
Anyone have any ideas? Maybe a llama script even? I'm not trying to stop a dedicated hacker, just curious kids that the employees sometimes bring to work (namely the owner) lol.

Phone won't connect to Google account

A few weeks ago, I reset my phone to factory settings because it was running slow. While my problem was solved, another problem arised.
I cannot connect to my Google account.
My goal is to be able to connect to my account so I can watch videos from my Youtube subscriptions. So basically, I only want to be able to connect to my Google account for purposes of using Youtube.
The problem is this:
-Despite a decent connection to the internet, I was not allowed to sign-in. I have tried using my username e-mail account, the password is correct, yet I get the typical "username or password is not correct".
What could I do to eliminate this problem? Any help is appreciated :good:
