I'm sticking with Kit Kat + Xposed until it supports ART (might take forever, don't care), but if you find a way please tell me. I get freezes when trying to use the blacklist feature.
EDIT: I've been rocking lollipop for 2 months now and I don't regret it. DVFS is kind of not needed when you have a kernel (like ultimate Kernel) capable of adjusting the minimum gpu clock. The throttle only kicks in for the cpu when considerably hot, so it's fine! Plus, the gpu problem on LP is simply due to too aggressive gpu throttling, which is non existent if you set the minimum clock manually. I'm sure of the information above

@gabrielgon Thanks for the reply man! Im aware since at&t note 4 users are still waiting for root we wont be able to switch kernels! Any work arounds without root?
I dont have problem with daily use of my phone! The problem only appears when playing gpu intensive games like (COD Heroes) the phone starts lagging after 5mins of play! Was wondering if we can do something about it since we cant disable dvfs on lollipop or have root!?

I'm really sorry to hear, man. I've been there in the very beginning. I'm trying to think things you could do but they all require root. You can look for an app or some other way to lower your resolution to 1080 that don't require root, even though the one I use does. This could help, but wont solve your problem most definitely. Lollipop is very aggressive on the gpu, so going back to kit kat is another option, but I can't guarantee you will have no lags on that game. Most people don't play a lot/heavy games so much, so I guess samsung don't care to make an out of the box gaming phone, which is a shame.
If you find a way to disable DVFS, tell me! And when you get your hands on root and keep having lag, you cam PM me!
PS: Changing Roms maybe? (if it can be done without root, dunno)

hey guys
i am looking for some advice. Some of the custom kernels out there have thermal throttling disabled .
Is this safe to do ?
I mean , if i usually play for 2 hours continuous , will there be any problems ?
Or for example HD video recording ... the phone tends to get hot on stock ... but with thermal throttling i guess it will get even hotter.
So what do you say , is it ok to disable in case i sometimes play some games for 1-2 hours continuous ?
thanks

I personally wouldn't do it. You see, it is not just a matter of overheating the Snapdragon 800, but also the LCD display can get to hot. And if you destroy the display, it will cost at least half as much as the phone itself. It is probably not worth the 5 or so extra FPS. If you are serious about android gaming, take a look at Xiaomi MiPad, with the Tegra K1 it is probably the best android gaming device BY FAR.

actually i am not serious about android gaming
it's just that sometimes to pass the times i play some games . For example games like kingdom rush . And sometimes i get lost in the phone and i find myself playing 2 hours straight
the reason i am asking is because i want to use a custom rom . And almost all of them use kernels that have this option disabled
if you know a good kernel that will not crash and will not cause any problems but has thermal enabled ... pls share
I would recommend LG stock kernel, furnace kernel 2.5.1 or CloudyKernel (with CloudG3 2.0 rom for example)

thanks mate.
i will have a look at furnace kernel
also cloudyfa i know he is very appreciated for his work
but , for stock kernel . Do you known where i can get stock kernels ( rooted ) recovery flashable ?
thanks in advance
My N910H lags in games after I updated it to stock 5.0.1.
I play Modern Combat 5 it was smooth in Kitkat now it's really laggy.
I got 50k in Antutu with Kitkat, now it's 38-42k.
Can someone help me? I'm a heavy gamer and I want the best performance in games. Or should I downgrade to Kitkat?
Thanks for your help!
Things I already tried:
- Factory reset (2x)
- Power saving mode is OFF.
- Turning off bluetooth, sync, location, and nfc.
- Reinstall Antutu.
- Reinstall MC5
My device is unrooted and Knox warranty status is 0x0.
Benchmarks don't really mean anything for Christ sake....if your games don't play smoothly then just downgrade to kitkat and wait for Samsung to hopefully updated our devices with a newer and better working version of Lollipop.
I had the g3 and boy did they screw the pooch on that one! The device got so slow and battery life was considerably worse! This was the 32/3gb version... Hopefully samsung won't mess this up big time.
All other scores looks fine.. Except for 3d graphics.
Man i have the same problem here it seems that the phone is always in power saving mode and the gpu is limited to 350 mhz instead of 700 mhz. Also the cpu runs at 1.3 ghz instead of 1.9 for the big cores thats why it has low score in antutu hope somebody figures out a solution and also this is a bug in this update

I have the same problem guys with my n910f. It starts after lollipop update. Did you try kitkat, it works now as it should?

Try doing a factory reset if you have't done it already.
It didnt work.
i updated my N910H too and i confirm the lag too, perhaps i will downgrade, will give it more time.
Hello, I have a problem with performance on Galaxy S4 GT-I9505 running lollipop on firmware.
I disabled some bloatware to get performance (and it helped a quite) and, using Greenify, hibernated some useless processes.
These are not making any problem.
I don't know why, but few 2D games stutters one time per 3-15 seconds. However, any 3D games like Modern Combat 5 have excellent performance.
In Developer options, force use GPU doesn't help very well (or other changes in it). S Voice isn't using home key.
However on GT-I9195 (S4 mini) these games were working perfectly smooth (excluding 3D games )
Clearing cache partition didn't helped. Even after factory reset and running only Geometry Dash or Super Hexagon these games still stutter as before.
What can cause this problem? Or somebody gets same performance issue?
Nobody got same problem? :/
Stock firmware? You're likely dealing with Samsung's DVFS. Find an app to disable it and see if that helps.
Thanks you for answer and an idea, however I haven't been going to root my device yet.
Then you'll just have to deal with the lag, as DVFS is baked into Samsung ROMs. Only by rooting can you eliminate the lag, either by using DVFS Disabler and Xposed, or using a custom ROM that doesn't have DVFS.
Is there any method to completely disable dvfs in snapdragon version Roms, it really kills the performance, for eg. When I run geek bench it will give score of 1060/3400 first time & 2nd time it would be down to 630/1700, I also profiled the frequency, after 2-3min. Of gaming cpu won't go above 1190mhz & gpu will be stuck at 240/300, games lag very badly... in lollipop I used wanam xposed but since it is not working in marshmallow, is their any other way to do so??

Why you think that what is limits the performance is DVFS?
Why it is not the thermal throttling, which is completely unique and exclusively dependent on the kernel?

Because device is not hot, not hot enough for thermal throttling to kick in, I monitored the temp. as well, it was always around 50, also same thing use to happen when I had lollipop unrooted, after rooting & disabling Dvfs, it was OK..

if your device is not hot, why dvfs decrease frequency?

As I said "not hot enough" & also I am pretty sure dvfs doesn't need high temperatures like thermal throttling to kick in, dvfs is way too agressive, & also as I said same thing used to happen on lollipop & disabling Dvfs used to resolve it , so I am 100% positive it's happening because of dvfs, again I don't know what Samsung has cooked in, so only they know why dvfs is so aggressivly scaling frequencies. .
and you believe that Samsung has implemented the devfs limiting the phone's performance when it reaches the 50th, and has other security protection managed by the kernel when it reaches 85?
What would be the reason for this dual protection?
I thoroughly tested the DVFS of wanam in lollipop and never found any benefit
It will not only be the DVFS an urban myth?

just a curiosity on this subject:
I think I know your point of view about the dvfs. I suppose it's that one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2674928
But, there is more interpretations of DVFS. This one for example. Note the faq in post 2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4/orig-development/tw-kernel-emotroid-team-t2990557
and note the link that is indicated for those who do not know what is the DVFS. This one:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dynamic_frequency_scaling
very strange, no? reconcile these two views?

Ok Bro, looks like u know what u are talking about, but let me explain why I think dvfs is culprit in my case, as I said earlier when I had lollipop on device , it still used to be bad for gaming, & after disabling dvfs alone , it used to be better, so it must be dvfs itself, that used to work for me, & also as I said now on marshmallow it is throttling badly while the device isn'the even hot enough, so I can't think of anything else, if you have any suggestions what else might be causing it & what I should do to overcome this, please let me know because I think I have tried everything, but who knows, maybe I am missing something important. .
Use cm13 then, dvfs is a feature of touchwiz

Yes, I was using that, but I keep jumping b/w cm & Touchwiz, absence of Amoled Cinema display mode i's biggest reason, I tried to tune screen with kcal, but result were nowhere near Amoled cinema
I've found many threads on how to disable thermal and dvfs throttling for several models of samsung phones but no guides have been made for the black sheep of the family, the snapdragon g950U. Does anyone have any clue where the files are that control thermal/power scaling for this device? I've tried deleting the thermal-engine.conf in system/etc and the thermal-engine binary in system/vendor/bin. No problems after deleting but I still see thermal throttling in my monitoring app starting at a preposterous 48 degrees . I'm guessing the files I need to change are in sys/devices but that path is loaded with too many files to go through. Also, I know its a long-shot but if anyone knows of a custom kernel or any method to achieve overclocking on the snapdragon s8 I'd love to hear about it. Thanks.

Nope. Been trying that one since I got mine. It's always overridden. We can shut dvfs off with a xposed module but things get all messed up. You can modify any file under sys directory and it persist.
Locked bootloader no custom kernel no overclocking.

Darn. Well thank you for putting that to rest for me. Guess I'll just have to keep my phone on ice in order to prevent fps drops when gaming. I noticed that the thermal throttling is bypassed when running any kind of benchmarking app (clap, clap, samsung.) I have no Idea how it detects it, but maybe there is a way to trick the system into thinking a benchmark is being run without actually using any rescources?

You can try in the xposed app I can't think of the name and my s8 is down waiting for a new battery. I found a option with short cut master for throttling but it didn't seem to do much either. We're can under clock all we want to a certain extent i still believe it's over ridden. But i can limit it some.
In the past it would be considered that its the hot plug is over riding but it seems as if Samsung is implementing their own form of hot plug
