1. You MUST be Rooted for this to work
2. The PAID / Donate Version of Light Flow, if yours says LIGHT FLOW LIGHT it is not officially supported by the dev !
3. Make Sure you have a fresh install of light flow so everything is set to default values to make this easy to follow.

General Settings
1. Once your in Light Flow allow it Root Access if Superuser asks and allow it accessibility access to notifications ( YOU MUST ALLOW THIS ! )
2. Hit the Three horizontal lines in the top left corner of the screens and head for settings
3. Go into General Settings and make sure all the following Settings are Ticked :
Enable Light Flow
Show LED in Priority Mode
Enable Clear All
Accessibility check
Version Upgrade Reminder ( you don't need this one but i keep it on regardless )
You may find that Lightflow will run in the foreground and leave a persistent notification, this is done to solve issues with the app from stopping running in some cases.
So far I have not had this issue with the N6 so you can go ahead and untick that in Settings -> Persistent Icon.

Per-Notification Settings
This is all the settings you need to let light flow have control of the LED, now you need to configure Notifications to use the light.
Head into the Notification settings and select one of the Default Profiles ( Im using charging battery )
You need to scroll across the screen to the tab called "LIGHT", on this page scroll down until you see Enable Mixer Mode make sure this is ticked.
Depending on your kernel you may find you don't need to enable Mixer mode, however its more than likely you will need mixer mode enabled !
Now you have control over the 3 Primary colors R/G/B and their brightness ( 1-20 ) - I have played with the brightness settings here and it seems to not affect the LED as of Version 3.51.1
If you are using the LED without mixer mode, you will find that it can't display any colors that are not Red or Green or Blue it.
For example picking Orange from the color picker resulted in a Green LED.
You have the same settings for each color however the SOLID option is the only one that seems to work !
You can select 1 LED on or all 3 on and mix them together to make other colors but because of the led it does not work as well as the Nexus 5's LED.

Dive into settings and un-tick the option.

Thanks for pulling this together.
Only problem now is 8-10 second delay for screen to wake up.

Finally seems to work better. This morning w/ slightly different settings it was unusable. Any way to make them flash? A flashing sms light would be perfect.

use the one in Settings > Sounds & Notifications > App Notifications > Light Flow (Enable) not the one in Accessibility.
The one in accessibility has a warning, "this option is not recommended to be used in android 4.3 upwards and the new notification access method should be used instead"[b/]
I use the one in Sounds & Notifications and LED works fine.
Other than that, great guide. Should help people get it to work Hopefully the LED can be worked on and we won't need Light Flow in the future.

Has messaging been fixed yet for texts?

Thanks for the tutorial.
It would be great to have this guide as a Sticky.

It's weird so picking the color from the circle drop down doesn't choose the color. You have to tweak/create the color yourself in the mixer options. Either way I like it because it works. Now we just need flashing.

Uncheck show notifications within settings of SuperSU.

You should add that the Notifications Off app will make the persistent notification icon go away but keep all the functionality.

Lightflow is working perfectly for me with elementalx kernel without mixer. I have the charging led enabled by the kernel. Also you need permissive selinux for this to work.

You can disable this in the Light Flow settings :

I've also enabled the "Reduce wake" option and so far so good.

That's weird it must be for some notifications dependent on the app, which notifications are you using ?
Im using ( All set to dismiss on Battery or when notification is cleared ) :
Charged Battery
Charging
Missed Call
SMS ( Google Messenger ) Recived

Also having "Reduce wake" seems to make no difference to how the app effects the battery for me ( might make it use 1 or 2% more but its not a massive impact that would be the difference between 1 days usage and not )

Yeah i saw that message, however i have had it enabled in one or the other or both and had no issues YET so i decided to leave this one out as the app seems to function correctly if you just follow what it asks for so people can get set up as easy as possible.

Notification LED Timeout

Hello guys,
I am trying to help a friend set up his Wildfire as he is new to android.
His biggest problem is the missed call / sms notification led. When he has a missed call, or a new sms the led notification lights up for five minutes and then turns off. Is it possible to leave the alert led on until he interacts with it?
The phone is brand new and still running the stock rom
Any help would be apreciated.
aalex
Just search for 'LED Me Know' on this Forum / GetJar. It should help.
I have used it personally, however, in the latest edition, theres a bug, that even after you have interacted with your phone, it keeps the notification LED on randomly. However, previously, I used v1.06, and, it worked flawlessly.

Thanks very much for responding,
I have tried both missed call and led me know, but they both time out after 5 minutes.
Am i missing something?
That's weird. Because I distinctly remember in my case, when I used it, the LED would keep blinking for hours at one go, till I checked the notification.
Did you try enabling 'Compatibility Mode' in the App Settings?

Hey 3xeno,
Thanks for responding.
Compatibility mode seems to be greyed out in my phone and i cannot select it.
Should the phone be rooted?
Thanks

No, it doesnt require root. One more thing comes to my mind, did you disable the stock ROM's option to flash the Notification LED?
Menu > Settings > Display > Notification LED
And GMail LED Notifications from GMail > Settings > More Settings
If, even after doing this, you cannot enable compatibility mode, refer the original thread of the app here and contact the developer, as he says:

Bloated settings app - Or maybe why the G3 lags? Plus some hidden settings!

I think I may have figured out a reason why the software from LG can cause the G3 to lag from time to time.
Take a look at all the features they left "on" in their bloated settings app. You can only get to a few of these features by using a launcher like Nova or Apex and creating a shortcut to it using the "activity" link.
Here's an example :
On Nova/Apex go to add shortcut > activities > settings > isai
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
What the hell is this? Isai motion? In the settings app it's checked "on". There's even an option to have a motion launch an app (similar to the camera on the Moto X, maybe?). I have no idea how to get this working, but the settings app has it checked.
Here's another :
Shortcut > activities > settings > Slide Aside
On the G2, slide aside was a weird memory hogging way of multitasking. I remember turning it off immediately on the G2 and getting improved performance. Guess what? It was checked "on" for me on the G3! But as far as I can tell, it's not even working.
Another :
Shortcut > activities > settings > Front Touch key light
Uh...pretty sure this was for the Optimus G and OG Pro - the G3 has on screen keys. Why is this even in the settings menu? Uncheck.
Final one :
Shortcut > activities > settings > Quickbutton
Nothing to check or uncheck here, but why is this in here? I think the Optimus G Pro had a quick button, why is this on the G3 settings app?
IN CONCLUSION :
My assumption is, just like with the G3 Home launcher and it's bloated hidden settings menu, LG has not actually "removed" features for different phones, they just take last year's software, no matter what phone, and add on top of it, then prevent the end user from adjusting those settings. How could they leave "slide aside" checked but not even give us an option in the settings menu to access it? Why would the settings menu even have a hidden option for quickbutton when the G3 has no quickbutton?
I would also assume, in some instances, it's easier and cheaper to program one set of software to install on multiple versions of the phone, that's why I can see there's MetroPCS and Verizon regulation info if you dig deep into the settings menu. But if a smart developer were to come along and strip all this crap out of the home launcher and the settings menu, my bet is you'd see a lot less lag because it'd probably take up less ram.
After turning some of the settings off my settings app is using 41mb of ram. We should compare to see who is using more or less and if it does in fact help with performance by turning some of these useless settings off.
EDIT : Here's some additional hidden menus. Maybe these options are present on some variations of the G3, but on the Tmobile G3 that I have they are not.
Strange... I think they are useless features but i hope they won't cause memory leaks...
Inviato dal mio LG-D855 utilizzando Tapatalk
Interesting. My settings shows 45MB total, but the com.android.settings app is using 36.
Do you know if using the stock AOSP settings app will turn off all those hidden settings?
Sent from my LG G3
Here's something else weird - if you dig around you find different versions of settings pages.
For example, my stock LED settings tab shows this :
But if you dig through the 6 or so LED shortcuts, you eventually find this :
This opens up a lot of questions for me. Why are there two separate LED settings menus? Why would they link to the menu with less options? If we dig more, will we find additional options that they limited from us to adjust the phone settings? I already also discovered the menu to make your own vibration pattern, and when you do, it will stick in the "normal" settings menu and let you use that custom vibration pattern. So why wasn't it included in the stock settings app?
So.. Did you turned those features off? If you did... Any improvement?

Not really. But I'm running ART with all the speed tweaks from the hidden dialer menu enabled plus I have no widgets or live wallpaper or anything. The G3 was already pretty quick for me before I discovered all this. I'd be curious to see the difference if the settings were turned off after a fresh install of the stock rom. The good thing about this is you could access these hidden menus without needing root.
What would really be great is if a dev managed to cook up a custom rom with all these hidden menus enabled in the stock settings app.
I'm just being greedy... Mine is blazing fast and no lags... But if I could free some more memory... Why not...
Switched a few of those bits off... Not noticed any difference yet but it's not worse!

Right. That's my feeling - it can only help. Plus if we all do more digging we might find actual useful hidden features. I know it's a small thing but I'm glad I was able to make my own vibration pattern.

I have the 851 and that custom vibration option was there in stock, as I had used it when I first got the G3 right out of the box.
Also, without Nova or APEX, no other way to access those "hidden" settings?

Well, you could just install Nova simply for that and then delete it when you're done. That's what I did.
I don't know of another way to access the hidden settings - maybe a dev on a custom rom will figure out a way to add it to the settings app.

16 Things You Can Do In Android Lollipop That You Couldn't Do In KitKat !
After what feels like a long time since we saw the L Preview first appear, Google is now rolling out the final version of Android 5.0 Lollipop to its existing Z series.
You get to know the best version of Android yet by working through this selection of tips and tricks,
covering all of the new features, major and minor, that are built into the operating system.
1. Tap and go
When you're setting up your new Lollipop device for the first time, you'll be presented with the option to "tap and go."
This NFC-and-Bluetooth-powered data transfer lets you move all
of your Google Account details, configuration settings, data and apps
over to a new device just by placing your old phone or tablet against it.
Widgets and wallpaper are swapped over as well.
2. Use the flashlight
Flashlight apps have always been popular on Android,
so Google has decided to roll one into Lollipop to save you the trouble of having download a third-party one.
Pull down the notification drawer then tap the top bar to
reveal the flashlight app alongside other options like airplane mode.
The app will only appear if your device has an LED flash alongside its camera.
3. Prioritize your apps
Android 5.0 Lollipop lets you set up a list of important apps that
are allowed to disturb you even when most aren't.
Head to Settings -> Sound & notification -> App notifications
and you can choose to block each app or mark it as a priority one. Tap the volume slider on your device to activate priority
mode indefinitely or for one hour (a circle with a stripe inside will appear in the status bar).
4. Deal with notifications from the lock screen
In Lollipop all of your app notifications appear on the lock screen ready
for viewing. Not only that, but you can interact with them as well.
Swipe to dismiss, tap to reply and so on,
depending on the app in question.
A double-tap gets you into the relevant app.
Head to Settings -> Sound & notification ->
When device is locked if you want to hide sensitive alerts.
5. Pin apps
If you want to hand over your device to one of your kids or a friend,
you can "pin" them inside one single app.
First, activate the feature via Settings -> Security -> Screen pinning.
Then, when you activate the multitasking screen via the
square Overview button, you'll see a pin icon
appear in the lower right-hand corner
of the bottom app (drag it up if you can't see it).
Holding down the Back and Overview buttons is enough to
exit the pinned mode and get back to other apps. When you activate the pin,
you'll be asked if you want to use a code or pattern to unlock it.
This is tied to the same protection applied to your device,
so if your lock screen isn't protected by a code or
pattern then the option won't appear when you're pinning apps.
6. Jump to app settings
The lock screen really has been given a major overhaul with
the Android 5.0 Lollipop update,
and the improvements include the ability to jump
straight to an app's settings or information panel right from
the lock screen. Long-press on
any notification and (depending on the app) you'll see a cog icon (the app settings shortcut)
and an info icon (the app notification settings shortcut).
7. Predict battery life
New to Android 5.0 Lollipop is the ability to see how much time is
left before the battery runs out of juice,
or how long you need to wait before your device is fully charged up.
Tap on the battery icon in the notification drawer to see either
reading (the time-until-charged information also appears on
the lock screen a few minutes after you've connected
your device to a power source).
8. Search settings and networks
Google's search bar is getting more ubiquitous with each
passing version of Android, and in Lollipop
it's made it into the Settings app.
Tap the magnifying glass icon to use it.
It can be a quick way of finding a particular option
you're looking for, especially if you don't already know what menu or
heading it's under. You can use the same feature
to bring up saved Wi-Fi networks too.
9. Enter Guest Mode
Sharing devices with other people
(friends, colleagues, family members, distracted children)
can be a real pain, but Lollipop's new Guest Mode eases it somewhat.
You can access Guest Mode by dragging down
the notification drawer, tapping on your user account avatar,
and then selecting Add guest from the menu
(or just Guest if you've been through the process before).
10. Improve text legibility
If you were wondering if the Accessibility
menu within Settings would get overlooked
in the Android 5.0 upgrade, there's a new experimental feature
here called High contrast text.
Essentially, it gives white or difficult-to-read
text a black outline when it's being viewed on a light background.
It's applied to the "OK Google"
text inside the home screen search bar, for example.
11. Chromecast more quickly
There's an official Chromecast app from Google that
lets you screencast from any device running
Android 4.4.2 or higher, but the functionality
is built right into Android 5.0, which is great
news for anyone with one of the compact streaming
dongles to hand. It's right in the notification
drawer—tap on the Cast screen icon to locate your Chromecast and begin screencasting.
12. Add trusted devices
A trusted device is a specified Bluetooth or
NFC-enabled gadget that will automatically
disable the security code or pattern on your your
Android phone or tablet when it's in range.
This means you don't have to fiddle around
unlocking the Lollipop device when you're at home
or in the car, for example.
Head to Settings -> Security -> Smart Lock to set up the feature.
13. Hang a 'do not disturb' sign
This works a little bit like the priority app notifications we
mentioned earlier, but it's based around times and
days more than apps.
Go to Settings -> Sound & notification -> Interruptions
to set it up—it's perhaps best used overnight when
you don't want to be disturbed, but there is the
option to let certain contacts through as well as messages and alarms, if necessary.
14. Get back to your apps after a reboot
If you reboot your device in any version of
Android before 5.0, all of your recently opened apps
will disappear. In Lollipop, they're still present
on the Overview screen,
so you can quickly get back to a previous conversation
or website if you need to (not all apps
will remember exactly where you were in the app).
To remove a card from the list, swipe it away to the left or right.
15. Play Google's Flappy Bird clone
Like earlier versions of Android, Lollipop has an
Easter egg to unlock. Go to Settings -> About phone
then tap quickly four times on the Android version entry.
Once the Lollipop graphic appears, tap quickly on it several
times then finish with a long press to launch a
clone of Flappy Bird with an Android robot in place
of the bird. It's just as frustrating to play as the original too.
16. Save the battery
Android 5.0 Lollipop includes a built-in battery saver mode
that you can get to kick in at 15 percent battery,
5 percent battery or never (you can also switch it on and off manually).
It cuts off some background syncing
and vibrations and makes various other tweaks as well.
If you select Battery from the Settings app you'll find
the battery saver on the menu behind the three vertical dots.

Enable notification light on Moto G 4 Plus [Root Required]
Hey,
After a little experimentation, I found that you can use the Light Flow Legacy app to control the led. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.rageconsulting.android.lightflowlegacy&hl=en)
Once you've installed it, you must give notification access.
Go to menu > settings > Device Settings and Root > check "root mode" and "run every command as root".
Then go to menu > settings > LED control > Additional LEDs found > check "charging control"
Now, go to menu > notification settings > click the 3-dot menu on any of the items in the list > settings
In the next screen, swipe right to find a tab called Light. Find charging LED and click on it. You'll have an option of turning it "solid".
You also have an option to set its brightness, but that setting didn't change the led's brightness.
On the top right corner, you have an option called "Test". Click on that and switch off your display.
You should see the charging led light up.
Cheers.
Any Rooted User Can Try This App.

I think we can use the LED once the device is rooted. We can use apps like " Light Flow Legacy" and "Moto LED".Not sure if this will work or not.
But these apps worked on Moto G3 so i think these will work on the 4th gen as well

Light flow legacy doesnt work for me. Moto LED might, but what's the point. It doesn't allow for notification lightup.
did you find a non root method which work
Feature is crucial to me. I need my g4 to notify me of messages without having to pick the phone up. Has anyone got this to work as such?

I'm just curious but why is that small, barely visible in full light led any better than a notification turning your screen on.
For the simple fact I would notice my phone blinking at me without having to pick it up. I'm not sure I can explain it better than that other than without this feature I would be picking up my phone all the time for fear I have a missed message. I don't want to be doing this.

It only light up the screen when you first get the notification. If you missed it, the only way to access is to physically move the Moto g4. A pulsing light is always on. The amoled moto's have the consistent pulse notifications which sought of makes the light unnecessary. I too hope moto will activate this feature in a future update.

Thanks to Sai_D for the configuration info for Light Flow Legacy. Works for me on XT1641 (rooted of course).
I had installed it earlier but didn't have it configured properly and so it wasn't working.
Notification LED + Active Display is a great combo -- the LED tells you that you have a notification and then a simple nudge of the phone activates the display so you can see what it is.
Hey guys, someone can tell me if Moto G4 PLAY has hidden led light too? I'm really looking forward it! Thanks!

Request - LED Notification Magisk Module

Close to two years after the release of the G5 Plus, we still don't have any reliable way to use the speaker grill LED as a notification light. As I touched on in a previous thread, there are some custom ROMs that enable the LED light for notifications. There's also an app. The app, however, is quite buggy: you have to set things up from scratch after every reboot, and it has a noticeable effect on my phone's performance; sometimes to the point that the back gets uncomfortably warm. There's also a Tasker profile someone made, but I couldn't get that to work reliably either.
Perhaps the end-all solution for using the speaker grill light as a notification LED, in both stock and custom ROMs, is a simple and battery-friendly Magisk or Xposed module. If one of our skilled devs can make something that works, I'll gladly donate to your development efforts. Thanks!

You can use the "Legacy Light Flow" app as outlined in the post I copied below. I'm using it and it works well.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g5-plus/how-to/moto-g5-plus-led-light-t3576646/page2
Found another alternate method in some other post, below are the instruction..(only works on rooted devices)
you can use the Light Flow Legacy app to control the led. (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...owlegacy&hl=en)

You should see the charging led light up(can also use led notification for missedCalls,messages,whatsapp..........)
I have tried and its working..
