Hey guys, looking for some advice here. Nexus 10 supposedly has a 32GB ROM, but only 13GB of that is showing as total storage on my N10. What happened here? Could it be my partition table got screwed up somehow? Is there a way to fix it without a factory reset?
I've had this twice, both times was able to get the storage back by entering the command below in terminal (on the tablet). Not sure why it works or exactly what it does, it's one of known fixes for this problem.
su
restorecon -FR /data/media/0
Hi,
Another solution is to factory reset from Settings app, when it happened to (twice) I did it and worked. But remember, it's a factory reset, so you'll lose everything, including pictures, music, videos, apps, etc..

I downgraded yesterday in preperation for rooting my tf. After the downgrade i was getting a ton of apps force closing. I decided to reset to factory from the settings screen and that solved the Fcs. However when i went to flash primordial 3.1 i was very surprised to see my sd card empty with nothing more than the lost and found directory on it. Ive got a recent backup on my laptop so no harm, but im still surprised.
Not likely.
I still have my data.

yes, a factory reset will wipe the internal memory (/sdcard is not actually the uSD card, it's a symlink for /data/media...) your stuff is stored in /data/media and you told the system to wipe data, so it did.
there is a modified clockwork recovery that ignores the internal memory location so you can wipe without losing your photos, downloads, etc.
I learned the hard way about this.....5.5 gigs of PDF!!! Good thing it was on a backup disk! Not to mention movies and other stuff.
It will delete stuff on yout microsd cause it is symlinked to /mnt/sdcard/microsd

Something is not right:
I have used up 2.99GB for apps + movies, just 3.5MB for pictures, 20KB anf 64MB for Downloads - and yet I only have just 900MB storage space remaining???
Where are the approx. 10 other GB I should have available as storage space... Any idead/suggestions, anyone ??

Did it show that you had 13.x GB free when you first got it? I've read of a few instances where the other people who had this problem had to do something like a factory reset before it properly allocated the free space.
Give it a factory reset/wipe, I was missing some 3GB out of nowhere that I could see.
Thanks, guys... I'll give that a try!

Dumb me...
Apparently, Clockworkmod backups do not show in the JB Settings>Storage view.
Found out about my "rather excessive backup habit" after downloading the excellent "DiskUsage" app from the Play Store... Deleted some of my backups and did a "Factory Reset" via Settings menu.
Et voilĂ , 10+ GB available again...
Thanks androidarmin,
I was having a hard time figuring out why I couldnt get rid of the 13GB of data that was on my tab.
I tried the factory reset and clearing cache and all that....but all of the old data was still on there.....games and apps.
I wanted to start fresh!
DiskUsage worked awesomely!

I too had this problem and tried factory reset but to no avail. I suspect the only way is to wipe everything from recovery (i.e. including internal storage)
Hey Guys,
Something seems to be wrong with my storage. As you can see in the picture below I should have ~3,5GB free space and not just 807MB. I tried flashing previous versions and the newest version of cm10.1 but nothing changed. Ziddeys patch for otg support also seems not to be responsible. I thougt about making a nandroid backup + factory reset but I think that the backup would, if the factory reset should solve the problem, bring the problem back or am I wrong?
Thanks for help!

Well factory reset only wipes /data and /cache, it won't touch /data/media (basically your user space). To clear that up for good you need to actually "Format Data" (In Recovery), but you'd want to back up everything off of it and onto your computer first.
Also that graph can only graph what it knows about, if there are some hidden folders/files (or if .nomedia also applies to it) then it won't report that as used.

Thanks a lot will give a try when I'm back at home!
Format Data solved the problem! Thank you very very much!
Do you by chance use google music? I too have this issue, my theory so far is music the google music caches takes up storage space but isn't read as media by the system (perhaps so it doesn't turn up in other media players).
No idea if this is right though, just an idea...
No I don't use google music. I'm using apollo and i realy don't know what caused this issue on my nex. Maybe dirty flashing?

It's possible, some apps have .nomedia files placed into their folder to prevent media scanner from detecting and showing in other apps. Though Google music should report it's usage as an app to storage, as the size it shows under manage apps includes the cache and pinned music.

OK this seems like a silly question but when I Google Nexus 4 factory reset, all I get are instructions on how to do this, and the warning that all memory will be wiped, to include pictures, videos, etc.
When you perform FR (hardwipe or regular) on the Nexus 4, does it wipe the sdcard folder? I went into the menu to do this, and was surprised to see that it says it would--I'm used to having a separate SD card in my Nexus S, and as such I never needed to backup all that extra stuff. It was way more convenient to FR the phone and simply redownload the apps I used. Even the save data from those apps would stored on the SD card and be ready to go.

From my experience, it erases everything on sdcard0. With an phone that has a external memory slot, it would be sdcard1 which is not erased during a reset.

The one thing you have to remember, if you do a factory reset via settings, it will wipe everything! If you do a factory reset via the recovery, it will wipe Data, Cache, Dalvik, but NOT your sdcard or System. This is using TWRP as the custom recovery btw. The reason it doesn't wipe the system is when you flash a custom rom, the system will be wiped automatically.
Edit: Using cwm recovery, a factory reset doesn't wipe your sdcard as well.

I performed a Note 3 factory reset and I realized I deleted a few important files. My device was not encrypted and is not rooted.
From internet searches, it appears that if the phone was not encrypted that I would be able to recover files but I'm not sure how to do that.
Can anyone point me in the right direction or is everything lost regardless of who I can find to recover my files?

What files did you mean? Where are they stored?
Typically when you factory reset, all files on the internal storage will NOT be deleted.

On Samsung devices, when you factory reset, all files in the internal storage still remain.
anyway try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.undelete

Thanks for your help. But the Samsung factory reset does delete the internal storage. I'm also not rooted.

So is there absolutely nothing I can do? The files aren't sitting there somewhere like a regular delete?
If you did a stock wipe, that's it, the end.
It doesn't have a recycle bin, and data recovery apps don't work on the internal memory.

Would you know if the data still resides on the device or is completely removed from the device?

Better try yourself. Connect your phone to the PC as a USB storage, then use any PC undelete tool to check.
e.g. TuneUp Undelete: http://www.tune-up.com/g/Undelete/
