I performed a Note 3 factory reset and I realized I deleted a few important files. My device was not encrypted and is not rooted.
From internet searches, it appears that if the phone was not encrypted that I would be able to recover files but I'm not sure how to do that.
Can anyone point me in the right direction or is everything lost regardless of who I can find to recover my files?

What files did you mean? Where are they stored?
Typically when you factory reset, all files on the internal storage will NOT be deleted.

On Samsung devices, when you factory reset, all files in the internal storage still remain.
anyway try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fahrbot.apps.undelete

Thanks for your help. But the Samsung factory reset does delete the internal storage. I'm also not rooted.

So is there absolutely nothing I can do? The files aren't sitting there somewhere like a regular delete?
If you did a stock wipe, that's it, the end.
It doesn't have a recycle bin, and data recovery apps don't work on the internal memory.

Better try yourself. Connect your phone to the PC as a USB storage, then use any PC undelete tool to check.
e.g. TuneUp Undelete: http://www.tune-up.com/g/Undelete/

I'm having a heck of a time with the internal storage on my S4. What I have done so far: Rooted -> Flashed with Xousos v1.0 (no problem) -> Backup to SD card with CWM -> Flashed with Xousos v2.0 -> Flashed Theme Reverepats ICS (MF9) -> Flashed ComaDose = No Space
I moved all my apps to my SD card and even deleted dropbox and all documents sync to free up space. Before I do a rom flash I clear data/cache/davilik cache and format system. I know the S4's 16GB is really an 8GB - but to only have a few hundred megs left after a fresh flash and TiBackup restore of a handful of apps is not right.
I figure I must have copies of the previous installs somewhere on the internal storage, I just dont know where to look. So if anyone could point me in the right direction as to what directories I can delete or any steps to help free up some space, I would really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance

Check the "MISC" folder and check to see what are the folders that take up the most space. I have a feeling you are going to have a nandroid on there that is taking up about 3-4gbs

Wipe system/and factory reset then flash ROM will fix it. Make sure the ROM and everything else you need is on your external SD first.

I apologize for the dumb question in advance, but do you know the location of that folder?
I went to storage/emulated/0 in root explorer and the file structure looks the same as the phone folder explorer but no large files - screen shot attached (largest file first)

Get disk usage app and poke around the filesystem. It will graphically show you what folders are storing large amounts of data. It will be a lot faster using that tool with finding large files than going through each folder with a file browser app.

In the storage screen (from your original post, where it showed the breakdown), just tap on miscellaneous and it should show you the folders that make up that 7.52GB

Thanks, this is a handy little app, especially with root access.
I attached a screen shot - it looks like the system data folder is dominating the space - is it possible there is still an old rom on there or possible a backup (like was mentioned earlier) and if so, how do I get to it?

That was my last screen shot - when I tap miscellaneous the biggest folder in there is 3.69 MB - which is why I am so confused
I'd probably just make a nandroid backup, move any files from internal to external that I wanted to keep, turn off phone, remove SD card, boot phone back up, go into SD card in menu settings, format the card then go into accounts and do a full factory reset. I would think that would get rid of any unknown bloat from the internal storage. Yes you'll have to set the phone up again but it might fix your running out of space problem. A nandroid restore might throw the crap back in there. I don't know.

Wiping the internal sdcard did the trick. Reloading everything was not what I wanted but it did solve the problem
Thanks to everyone who helped in this thread, I appreciate it :good:
Mine started giving me the low storage space warning once the MF9 update downloaded. I had to wipe the internal sd card completely. What a PITA.

Hi
I want to wipe my device's internal storage but I have some questions about it first:
Do I just need to tick wipe internal storage on TWRP?
Will it influence my ROM?
If it won't, will I be able to use the GApps?
Thanks in advance guys
That'll work, but be careful. It'll wipe all your data and any stored backups, including nandroids, tibu, etc. It won't wipe the Google apps.

Idk, I never formatted just the internal. You might have to reflash the rom. Or they'll be added when they're needed. I know they come back there somehow but after you format you might not see then on your pc. If you go ahead with it let me know. I'd like to know for the future.

Hi,
I did a titanium backup and then factory reset my phone rooted g2. When the phone restarted, I went to restore my data, but the sd card appears empty. The phone says I have 25 gb of memory available out of 32gb. Since this is a stock Rom, I assume that means my data is somewhere.
Please advise!

When you do factory reset the phone delete everything inside the sd . so next time do a backup in ex sd with otg usb.
I also got the stupid problem. ?

I don't understand. It clearly states on the mobile site that the sd card won't be deleted. See below
aster reset from settings menu
A master reset restores the original factory settings and may delete your personal data on the internal storage, such as downloaded content, ringtones, images, apps, and contacts. It does not delete data stored on the SIM card or SD card.
To perform a master reset, follow these steps:
Back up all data on the internal memory. Backup & restore: LG G2
From any Home screen, tap the Menu key.
Tap System settings.
Tap General, scroll to 'PERSONAL.'
Tap Backup & reset.
Tap Factory data reset.
Tap Reset phone.
Tap Erase everything.
Review the warning, and then tap OK.
Important: During the master reset, do not remove the battery.

It doesn't specify what type of data. But before that it does list everything including contacts which are stored on the SIM. And from experience a factory reset always gives me a clean slate

Move them to the extSDCard and then put a file called .nomedia (the . is important) in the folders. Just create a txt file and name it .nomedia then copy it across to both folders.
The .nomedia prevents media scans listing everything twice.
Then whenever you change ROM's, or reset, just copy those folders back to intSDCard. (Device)

If you are playing around with roms, my suggestion is buy sdcard, 32-64GB depend on ur usage. Move all the music/movie/picture to sdcard.
So you can easily wipe all and flash the rom you want anytime without data lost. Only need to reinstall apps.
On my opinion, reinstalls all apps are better than using backup, cause sometime backup causing some bugs.
I need help to recover data (photo, contacts, WhatsApp chats) from my Un-Rooted GT-I9506 running Android 4.3. Due to some error the data was not synced for about 6 months.
Any help as the steps that I need to follow is greatly appreciated
The what's app chats should re-appear if you reinstall what's app and sign in on another phone.
So the phone won't boot at all into the rom? If not, you could install twrp using Odin, boot into twrp, mount the data partition, and copy the data to your computer. Before any of this will work, you need to make sure that the phone is seen by your windows computer.

Thank you audit13 for your help.
My GT-I9506 is working perfectly fine so I should be able to install TWRP.
However I made a mistake and loaded the TWRP ment S4-I337M. I got the usual Green OK message in ODIN. However when I pressed Volume Up & Power I was getting the usual Samsung Default Recovery Options.
Then I realized my mistake and loaded TWRP_3.0.2.0_ks01lte_20160508.tar.md5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...recovery-twrp-2-8-1-0-touch-recovery-t2942159
I got thw Green Successful Message in ODIN. But when I press Volume Down & Power I get the following message:
Recover Booting
Wet Warranty Bit: Recovery.
And the Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9506 in the Black Screen logo
The phone is stuck in the above screen
Phone is working fine (I am able to use the phone and to go to Download Mode).
What should I do?
Re-flash TWRP. I recommend re-flashing TWRP. I like and still use 2.87.
https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys4ltea.html
Open Odin, uncheck auto reboot, flash TWRP and, when you see the word "reset" in the status window, remove USB cable, remove battery, replace battery, use button combination to boot into TWRP.

When you have time can you please point me to link that have step by step instructions to recover the data?
Boot into twrp, connect phone to computer, open file explorer and look for your data. If you don't see anything in the data partition, you may have to try using a data recovery program. Try a program like recuva.

Thank you so much for your help. The files were deleted so I could not find them. I have downloaded Recuva.
What is the Optimal way to recover All deleted files using Recuva?
I did a search and this what I found and I not sure how to do it:
back up the entire internal memory partition to your computer as a single, massive .RAW file,
convert the .RAW file output to a VHD,
mount the VHD as a disk in Disk Manager,
scan the attached VHD volume for files that have been deleted and recover them,
Sorry, I have never use recuva on a phone or non-volatile memory. only mechanical drives.

When I boot GT-9506 into TWRP and mount the internal storage as USB my PC is not detecting the phone internal storage. Even Recuva or HDD Raw Copy Tool is not detecting the phone internal storage.
Any suggestions?
Does TWRP's file manager see any of your data files?
How was the data lost?
- Did you delete it manually?
- Did your format the device?
If so, then it's IMPOSSIBLE to get your data back. That's because Google enabled TRIM in Android 4.3+, so data you deleted is really gone.
If you are stubborn like most of the users and still want to waste lot's of time trying to recover the data then this is the thread you are searching for.

TWRP File Manager seems to show all folders example: boot, cache, data, dev, ect, external_sd, license, preload, proc, recovery, res, root, sbin, sdcard, sideload, spersu, system, tem, twres, usbstorage, charger, default.prop .......
When I go into the data folder I see a lot of sub folders including app folder, app-asec, app-lib, app-private, audio, backup, mcmnfc .......
What I go into app folder I see some app files such as "com.whatsapp-34.apk, com.viber.voip6.apk
I am mainly trying to recover deleted Whatsapp & Viber chat, calls history

Yes I did see that 100 page long thread. But as mentioned in this tread my internal storage is NOT detected by Recuva or raw HDD copy utility.
I need the deleted data very badly. So I am willing to jump through any loops

If you deleted the data manually then you cannot get it back. There are no loops to jump through.
Android 4.3+ has Trim enabled. The TRIM function effectively nulls out the space where deleted files were stored, making the data completely unrecoverable.

I am not too sure about that because I used a software called Dr Fone and was able to recover some of the deleted files.
