Hi,
Below you will find some tricks i use to increase standby time and force less resource consumption leading to a better battery life. I have tested all these things a number of times and my device's battery performance is upto the mark when i follow them.
1. Disable Moto tips n tricks in Settings > Motorola privacy > Uncheck Help motorola and Moto care
Everyone by now knows how to use moto apps and their added benifits so there is no need to enable those options. They use data in the background. By turning these off you not only save data but also prevent wake lock leading to better standby.
2. Use active display cleverly
I dont use the option to turn off notifications at night. But all the notifications recieved during my sleep are shown by the active display leading to battery drain even though the device itself is asleep. So, the trick here is to place the phone on its back or put the phone underneath a cushion tricking the proximity sensor into thinking its in a pocket so that active display doesnt show any notifications.
3. Disable motorola security in Settings > Security > Device admin > Motorola device privacy
By default google's android device manager is on which helps to locate device in case of theft. So there is no need to get the same benifit of android device manager by motorola. All it does is use data under google services. Again less data consumption and better standby time.
4. Google location reporting
I dont use google now. And everyone who doesnt should disable google location reporting in Setting > Location > location reporting. If you use google now then it is not a better idea to disable location reporting because it helps to provide info about places nearby but if you dont use google now unchecking location reporting helps to save data and unnecessary wake locks.
5. Retrain Ok google now
If your moto x wakes up to voices not even close to the phrase ok google now in a crowd or a noisy environment then you need to retrain the device. Speak the phrase loud and clear. This helps me to avoid unnecessary wake ups.
6. Check you ram usage under Settings > Apps > Swipe left
This is suggested everywhere but the actual thing to note is the service section. Simple apps like Aviary (photo editor) keep a service running in the background. Remove all such apps. It helps to avoid unnecessary ram use and keep the device smooth after days of use without restart.
7. Battery percentage in status bar for better Screen on time
I use Du battery saver to indicate the battery percentage on the status bar. Weirdly my device would charge slowly but provide way better screen on time. However it behaves normally if i turn of the battery indicator. I have no idea why this happens but i have tested it and this trick works on my device.
8. Turn of scanning when wifi is off
Goto Settings > wifi > in options de select avoid poor signals and scanning always available.
9. Charging with a full signal
Whenever you are charging the device be sure to charge it in a place with full signal. I have noted that when i charge the phone in a room with three signal bars or low it charges slowly as compared to full signal. Although this maybe because of different power sockets but i have tested this on two sockets located at a place where i get one maybe two signal bars and two another sockets where i get full signal. It works for me.
I will update this thread if anything else comes in my mind.
I already do all these (and a lot more actually) and i just barely make it through a day if i don't really use my Moto X (X1056). Love the phone and all but it's battery is not up to snuff at all. Just got tired of spending time babying the battery and now just use my phone. Have a Targus 6000 mAh external battery thingy i keep in my tote bag that comes in handy every now and then.
In my opinion and experience, the 2013 Moto X and great battery life are not synonymous at all. I just deal with it.
I am going to disagree with you. I think the battery performance is way above average. I have attached some screenshots. Check them.
I'll give some of these a try, the problem I usually have is my phone thinks that it is much more dead than it really is. I think this instance it was on 1% for like 8-10 hours.
I do know about the 1 percent bug but i think it to be a hardware problem rather than software. I have a similar problem with my car. The nossle that pours gas in the tank cuts off automatically even when the tank till has the capacity to get 10 litres of petrol in it. The car company told me that the sensor is placed incorrectly in my tank leading the nossle to cut off way before the limit. Similarly the battery circuit may be wired incorrectly but this is just a theory.
Adding to my list of suggestions-
1. Switch to 2g when using wifi
If you use 3g/4g in an area where signal strength is not that high the phone would constantly force its modem to not only maintain a steady signal but also to get maximum signal which causes battery drain. So if you got wifi installed in your home or office, switch to 2g and save battery. Goto Settings > More..> Mobile network > Preferred network type and toggle accordingly.
2. Google + auto back up
Photos app that is a part of google + app automatically backs up all your images on the cloud. Many people are unaware about it and the back up happens in background. This uses a lot data. To cancel this open photos app and in options goto settings and sign out of your account. Some people may use this feature but i dont because it backs up every image stored on the device - whatsapp images, screenshots, viber the list goes on.
3. Google sync
Goto settings and scroll down to your google account. Uncheck all the options which your device doesnt require syncing. Since i dont use google play books tv i keep them unchecked.

Are you running stock? I'm thinking about putting in a warranty claim on my device. I'm currently at 61% battery. 5.5 hours on battery and about an hour screen on time. did use maps for about 5 minutes, but even then, not close to what many other users are getting. I've factory reset multiple times. Don't want to unlock bootloader as it's still under warranty.
Going to call Moto today.

Yes i am running stock. Never rooted never felt the need to. Although i like to tinker devices but within the limit. Before calling in for warranty try disabling google now for a day. I am sure it wont hurt. Also check the times your device got awake in the battery section. The key here is to extend standby time. No one can magically increase on screen time of a device beyond the battery capability but what can be controlled is the standby time. If you arenot using the phone it should be figuratively dead. And seeing the information you provided i can judge your device remains awake. My average run with the battery is about 22 hrs including 4 hr screen on time.

Ill turn off Google now and see what happens. Here is a screen shot. I was an avid android user the last four years, but have been using and iPhone for the last 8 months (for work). Recently switched back to Android and thought the battery on this device would be great but haven't been happy.
Attaching a couple screen shots. Have less than a couple weeks to submit warranty so don't have a lot of time. I'll give it a day with Now off and see what happens.

After watching the screenshot i suggest you switch to 3g. Your device is getting poor 4g coverage which is the only reason for heavy battery drain.

How do you do that? I didn't' think you could if you used a GSM provider and I'm on T-Mobile.

Thanks - tried that. My only options are Automatic and 2G only. No option between 3G and 4G. I usually have better signal, but I'm in my basement working from home today. When that's the case should I switch to 2G? Signal is the same. I guess I could turn off mobile data when I'm home and on Wifi. However, if I'm on wifi, do I need to worry about that or does being on Wifi turn off mobile data? It's been awhile for me.
I really just want to make it through the day on a charge. I normally only have a couple hours screen on time, but even now, I'm lucky to get ten hours. took your advice and turned off Google Now. I'll see how the second half of the battery goes.

When i switch to 2g i never lose a signal bar. Never. So if you see yourself in a situation like today where signal is low i strongly suggest you to use 2g. Since you are connected to wifi your modem doesnt need to pull data. I get that people want atleast a day's battery life out of their phone but this hassle of 3g 4g is really what bogs down battery life. Another thing to lookout for is location reporting. Since you have turned off google now turn off location reporting as well.

Thanks for all your help. I went ahead turned mobile data off since I'm home. I'll keep an eye on signal and try to use Wifi when I can. I do have location reporting off (I only use it when I need GPS, which isn't too often).
When I switch to 2G, my signal remains the same. Does that sound right? Or is 2g just going to use less power, regardless of signal?

I definately see change in signal strength when i toggle between 3g/2g. And yes 2g uses way less power. Again i am not sure why you are getting the same signal on 2g.

Thanks again for all your help! Closer to 11 hours in and around 45%. Only lost about 15% in last 4ish hours versus 35% in first 5. Turned off Google Now and switched to 2g when on WiFi. Location is also off. Guessing guys that get 4+ hours SOT are doing the same. Bit of a pain to have to toggle between 2g and 4g. I'm guessing I can download a widget to make it easier.
Anyway, you rock.

Whether you agree with me or disagree with me is irrelevant. At the end of the day, it is MY experience, and what I experience using MY Moto X. Is it improbable that we both have dissimilar experiences and usage scenarios?
those are some nice suggestions, but some of your paths were not found (e.g. Motorola Privacy).
regardless,
a.) there is already a battery life thread
b.) battery life is going to be what you make of it, and there are numerous variables - even within the same country or carrier
but if you are going to report your battery life experience, be sure to give full detail so that folks can make an apples-to-apples comparison. For example, below are mine for a typical weekday:
carrier: VZW (maryland)
off charger time: 16 hours (6am - 10pm)
wifi: on all the time (about 6 hours connected to wifi)
mobile data: set to Global and on all the time (about 10 hours connected to mobile data - no wifi connection)
bluetooth: on all the time (and connected to Moto 360 watch, with 1 hour total connected to my car)
location services: on all the time
touchless control: on
active display: on
google now hotword detection: on
GPS: battery saving mode
root: yes
unlocked bootloader: yes (although this REALLY shouldn't make a difference, but I have noticed worse battery life after unlocking - could be due to after a reboot, the system does not revert back???)
system partition: DALVIK
ROM: Krypton 4.4.4 or stock 4.4.4
total screen on time: ~2 hours
battery saving apps: greenify
other apps: Xposed with gravity box
prior to the 4.4.4 update, I would get 3 hours easily, now I barely hit 2. my reason for leaving everything on is that I like to have my day/life as seamless as possible. i don't want to have to worry about turning on/off wifi/bluetooth or any other features. a smartphone should be usable for at least 24 hours with at least 2 hours of SOT without having to tinker with it all day.
hope this helps.

Hi
Yesterday arrived my dev phone 1 and I am very hapy with it bu battery level is at 20% at 18:00. Is this normal?. I dont want to switch the band to 2g. I keep gmail synched with direct push but google talk not. anyone with same prpoblem?
Thanks
yeah, the standard battery in the G1 is ****ing terrible
not a lot you can do except buying an extended battery (which is a very good idea! )
The only thing I have found to extend my battery Life has been discussed previously a few times on these boards...
1. Turn off Wifi, when not in use. (Toggle WiFi from the Market is Great)
2. Turn off GPS, when not in use. (Toggle GPS from the Market also great)
3. Turn down the screen brightness.
4. (not sure if this makes a big difference) But sometimes if I do not need my feeds or background running apps throughout the day I will restart my phone, or run through a few applications that are not pulling web cache. This way you dont have auto update feedreaders in the background running. It seems like it works for me, but that could very well be wishful thinking. Also turning of things like Twitroid update etc...
Hope that helps.

i do #4 as well, it seems to help, since i have root i just go into terminal and type su [enter] reboot [enter] and when it turns back on its usually doing bettery with the battery
as for opening programs, would advanced task manager serve the same purpose (closing apps that arnt needed and using memory, because if its using memory isnt it in some way using battery power?)
Thanks.
I am porting CommMgrPro to Android (Similar to Locale but much more powerfull). In this way I will switch to 2G, turn Wifi off, disable connections, etc, etc, etc automatically depending on my location/weekday/hour.

Hi All
I have a brand new G1 and, like you, I was suprised by the short battery life.
I also thought about selling the phone but apart from that problem I like it very much.
I noticed that the permanent 3g wireless connection was the real draining battery application.
So the solution I found now is: to disable the permanent connection. I downloaded APNdroid application from the market and I use it everytime I need to toggle connection on and off.
I also tried to leave the WIFI on and i saw that it does not consume much battery.
I did not tried with the GPS.
I am using a good tool to toggle and to fine check the battery level: Useful switchers
I can now say I am pretty satisfied with the phone.

Yes. It was the same problem there was in HTC Hermes/TyNT and TouchPro/Diamond. I created bandswitch in the past and will create two little toggles to switch 3g/2g with and without time limit....
Conditioning
Try Conditioning the Battery...
I have gps on, 2g, brightness at 50% and screen timeout at 30 secs, everything syncing and I get around 5 or 6 hours of use...just like the company says I should.
Run your battery completely dead...
Charge your phone for around 8-12 hours...
Repeat for about 6 days...
You should see improved battery life.
I have 3g, wifi, bluetooth, brightness at 50% and screen timeout at 30 secs, everything syncing with 1-2 hours of music/video with 30 SMS, about 20 mins of calls......I am now getting about 8hrs on the new ones from HTC (the 04).
Interesting Battery
Well now that I have had a week of use I have noticed that the (old) "02" batteries would last about 4-5hrs and go until 1% before turning off, with a slow count down. The (new) "04" batteries stay at a high number (about 6-7hrs) until they get to 15% and within a few mins turn-off....as I recall I saw postings of 'quick' count downs, so I wonder if you either get a slow drain down with about 4hrs of use OR about 6 hrs of use with the last 15% a very quick shutdown....I'll keep monitoring these new HTC batteries to see if it was just one of those "weekend" things or if this is the trade off...was caught off guard as I had been getting 30 mins or so when I had 15% left and the G1 would stay on until 1%..."teach an old dog new tricks".....
Please forgive me if this is a duplicate thread, I searched and only found folks complaining of other things with battery, not the length of life. Feel free to move this if it belongs in another forum.
I was one of the early recipients so I've been using the Incredible for a week already. Here are my findings on battery life and opening to further suggestions to stretch this out some more.
I am using the standard battery that came with the phone. I have a wall charger at my desk at work and a car charger in my car, all in addition to the charger on my night-stand. Fortunately these carried over from my Omnia2 since they are Micro USB. However, I have to use these constantly.
I have been using a smartphone for quite a few years and this one is by far the best yet... however, it also bleeds the battery dry like any other smartphone. I am also a power user, Exchange connection for work calendar and mail, Gmail, internet use and Facebook app. I also use the camera a lot, which yields impressive photos for a phone.
Average day for me; if I unplug the charger at about 7:00am as I leave for work and do not plug it into anything for power, the battery bar turns orange at about 2:30-3:00PM. I use Advanced Task Manager to kill things I don't use and have removed apps I had installed but use minimally which start up on their own (Skype, Photoshop Mobile... etc.). I also keep an eye on the running services to ensure the minimum is running at any given time.
Before I used Advanced Task Manager I was getting to about noon before the battery bar turned orange.
With occasional use of wall and car charger I can get through a full day before I get to red and the "plug into power" warning message. This past weekend I bled it to the point that it turned off on it's own, which was about 10:00PM
I typically have 2+ bars of 3G in my area, at home I have a signal extender so I have full strength signal, if that is off I have 1 bar of 1x.
Anyone have additional tips or tricks on how to milk even more battery life out of my Incredible phone? I expected lackluster battery performance but would love to get through a day without having to keep a charger on me.

That battery life sounds about right. Keep in mind that having all of that stuff syncing in the background is going to kill your battery life. Also, ATK could be hurting your battery life in general. You clearly have something that it's helping with, but if you're just killing every background process your phone will use more power reinitializing those programs than it would have just keeping them in RAM. In general, if something's not using any CPU time, it's better to leave it running.
My old phone was the touch pro 2. the battery equipped with it has a 1500 mah. The battery is slightly thicker but cover easily closes still and i can now enjoy my phone almost lasting the entire day p
also my friend works a tmobile and supposedly the HD2 also uses the same battery but with a higher rating. They throw them out after awhile and he said he will get me a few of them for free cant wait )
I had a similar issue...
I was having a similar issue where my Incredible wouldn't make it through the day without charging, and I found that Google Maps was eating the lion's share of my battery. I tried using Advanced Task Killer to stop it, but it didn't show up in the list of tasks, but if I checked my battery usage, it was always the task using the most energy (not just by a little...it would typically be responsible for 70-95%). I had turned the Locator feature on within Maps just to see how it worked, but even with it disabled the task would still be running. The only way I was able to rid myself of the process was to reboot Android. My battery life has improved drastically since then.
I'm not saying this will solve your issue, but it's something to look at.
Check this thread on androidforums:
http://androidforums.com/support-troubleshooting-incredible/72539-i-found-fixed-htc-incredible-battery-bug.html
I think the problem is battery Uptime vs Awake time. If they are the same then the battery drains like crazy.
I ended up turning phone off completely, charging, then killing the Calendar process (but I have read killing any process will do) after boot with Astro File Manager.
I am currently at 19 hours 42 minutes Uptime, with 7 hours 12 minutes Awake time (Phone was awake all night apparently and I ended up killing my last processes: Mint, Firewallet, Fianancisto as well as Calendar which showed up in the list again).
And I have GPS, location, syncing on and set to 4 hours for most everything (except for Gmail Contacts and Calendar which I turned off).
Anyway, hope this helps someone.
EDIT: Oh, and I have 60% battery (6 green bars). I'm not using any battery apps or any task manager apps apart from Astro File Manager to kill processes.

So far this has done the most good. You are right it doesn't really delay my Exchange much. I notice a few seconds more of a delay when I am at my desk but I will never have something so critical that a few seconds will matter.

My Facebook app only refreshes when I open it or manually, Skype IM shows me offline most of the time. Otherwise, just longer battery life.
For what it's worth, I disabled all of the htc widgets and sense (installed helix launcher 2) and I can get through pretty much an entire day on a single charge. Took phone off the charger around 7am and it's just now red at about 10pm.
I thought you couldnt disable sense on this phone.
Thanks!

Np man I knew it would help someone :0p I knew i wasnt the only one to swap over lol
We got two Incredibles on Wednesday. The Boss Lady's went through the "select language, etc" drill described in the user's guide on first startup after charging. Mine went straight to the Home screen without any setup options. So I did a hard reset and was walked through the setup.
We left them both on chargers during the night.
Yesterday, after two hours off the charger and doing NOTHING, mine had used up more than a third of the battery.
Boss Lady's was still pegged.
After four hours, still doing bupkiss, mine started begging for the charger. I put it on a car charger. Also fired up Advanced Task Manager (the only app I installed on it), and killed off every app in its list. Some of them, like HTC Checkin and People, just would not die or would restart immediately.
Since we were travelling, Boss Lady spent the trip setting up contacts, texting, checking the weather, and hitting the interwebs.
After a six-hour drive, Boss Lady using hers and mine on the charger, her battery was still nearly topped off. Mine would start begging for the charger five minutes after being disconnected.
Last night about eleven PM, Boss Lady's bettery was still at about 75%. Mine still begging for the charger. Put mine on the charger overnight. (Hers charged for about 30 min this morning). Two hours after taking mine off the charger, and again doing nothing, battery was half gone.
Oh, and during all this, the battery was VERY warm while charging and would immediately warm up considerably when the screen was on.
I checked the battery timers on both phones. Boss Lady's up timer was somthing like 12 hours, awake timer showed less than 7 min.
My timers both showed the same time and were updating in tandem.
I called support, described the Incredible Shrinking Battery. A new Incredible is on its way to my house.
Boss Lady's is still "bone stock" (no special settings) and her battery is chuggin right along...

Im running GDE because helix2 kept force closing on me but same result. My battery now only runs down if I'm actively using the phone. With sense running it was burning through the battery. Huge improvement.
I was also able to replicate every sense widget but one and that being the contacts widget.
The way to do it is just set helix or GDE or whatever as your default and then restart the phone. As long as you don't manually launch sense after that it will stay turned off.
The reason people think you can't disable sense is that they didn't include some aspects of vanilla android. The messaging program and browser and a few other things aren't there and the artwork for others like the notification bar. You won't have access to the HTC widgets but you will still be able to use the HTC apps.
Anyway long story short. My battery life is MUCH improved with sense disabled.

Try this - seems to be best trick with little or no effect on usability:
Settings > Wireless & Networks > Mobile Networks (2nd one down)-
Uncheck 'Enable always-on mobile data'. Does not affect my push Exchange, and dramatically helps battery life.

THIS SOLUTION WORKS FANTASTICALLY! I am still at 90% when I used to be 35% by this point in the day. Thank you so much.

I don't think this is 100% accurate. When you disable this setting, you disable data services after your phone goes to sleep (turning off the display). It does not happen right away, but after I put my phone to sleep and wait a few minutes Gmail and ActiveSync don't push notifications to the phone. If the phone comes out of sleep for some reason (text message, phone call, etc).. Then the notifications works again, because it reconnects to the data network. I have also used K9's push feature, which also stops working after the phone is sleeping for a few minutes.
Also, when you turn off the always-on mobile connection setting the data symbols (3G/1X) go away in sleep. If you wake your phone, you can actually see the data symbols are gone but eventually return.
I think I finally found the solution to lousy battery performance on Android phones in general!
If you are using Spare Parts -or any other battery monitor app- and noticed a near 100% of awake time then,
it's as simple as that:
Go to menu, choose Settings->Applications->Development
and make sure that Stay Awake (second option) is NOT checked.
If it is checked the phone never sleeps while charging, but unfortunately, due to an android bug I guess, won't return to his regular sleep schedule after disconnecting from the charger.
Please try this and let me know! It worked for me!

Do you have Spare Parts installed?
If yes, then you can see what exactly is using your battery.
My solution applies to those who constantly have near 100% awake time.
I hope you find your culprit soon!
Timescape is the culprit.
Force close it and remove it from your home screen and watch your battery life double.
Well i'm having the 100%, so i will defenitely give it a shot. Thank you.

You speak my words absolutely right Timescape is the Main Battery sucker and nothing else. I removed it Days ago including of closing the Process in Taskmanager. my battery Life got up from 7 Hours to 16 Hours. Nothing else had effect for me even changing the Launcher to Helix or whatever.
Timescape / Mediascape is what sucks the X10 down.
No timescape on my homescreen and stay awake is not checked...still batterylife is lousy
Its fine when its not being used but as soon as i start using apps or use the phone in general, the battery drains fast.....
I reset the phone after unplugging it in the morning after a full charge, and my battery lasts a good 18 hours. Thats with Wifi on 75% of the time and 3g always on.

Wow....thats great...how did you manage that?
could you guide me through what settings you use please
cause with wifi on ....i get like half a day!
3 to 4 days with wi-fi off,3g off and gps on......................
don't twit or face though.
After being fed up with barely making it throughout the day, I decided to perform the following experiment:
1) wiped the phone clean (factory reset);
2) did NOT configure my google account with the phone to avoid needless sync with google as well as all those processes running in background no matter data connection available or not;
3) disabled data (as that line I am testing the X10 on has no data plan on it);
4) switched off location services; removed every single widget from the home screens;
5) installed HelixLauncherDONUT and left default widgets + added SE's digital clock;
6) installed startup auditor to prevent stuff like timescape from starting
7) contacts/settings/show status updates changed from all to none
Now after 24 hours and 45 minutes since unplugged phone has 88% battery left!!! There was no usage beside me checking stats every few hours. Phone is set to 3G, so switching to 2G may yield even better results.
Before this test I have done exactly the same test with the only difference of Google account being enabled on the phone (with sync disabled). No matter there was no data connection at all, phone went thru 20% of battery in just 6 hours with same usage pattern - 'no usage, just standby and checking every now and then the status of battery'. Not bad as with normal use of the phone I was been able to make it thru the day without shutting down due to battery empty.
Bottomline, I blame Google services for the excessive battery drainage in this phone. It is 1.6 'Donut' with its outdated google services 'at fault' IMO.
Hopefully with the planned Eclair update (lets hope Froyo too!) this situation will be addressed, at least to a certain degree.
Cheers!

Don't get me wrong. The experiment I've done is a "proof of concept" sort of - I am trying to figure out what is wrong with the battery usage in this phone.
If we look from your point of view, just to have the phone on standby and not using it, not Motorola V3, but a toy phone from the dollar store would suffice.

oh, i know. i just upset with SE, we're here to find some solutions
it's so sad that we buy the phone for the look & the features, too bad that SE did a very bad job. now we have to wait for months to get an update from them, & still don't know it'll fix all the issues???
What I've found out is that most battery drain comes from apps. Install an app that monitors cpu time per app and cpu speed and load. Shortly after I got the phone I was about ready to throw it from a bridge or something because of the horrible battery performance. However, one day I noticed that the cpu was running at ~1GHz most of the time even though it's supposed to throttle down and match speed to need. I found out that one app had ALOT more cpu time that all other apps/services (a widget from DMI, the Danish weather service, in case you care). Once uninstalled, my phone could go through half a day with both 3G and Wifi enable and not even drop below 90% battery capacity - although only mild usage because I was working. Before, the battery went from 100% to like 60% during a night with 6-7hrs of sleep.
Finding out how to improve battery usage has definitely made me like the phone alot more, but I still wish HTC had made the software for it.
Regards - Martin
I get a good full day with my x10. I use Timescape but set the update option to NEVER so it only updates by tapping on timescape tile; i also turn of wi-fi when not in range of my home wi-fi, bt off, gps off (unless needed for maps).
I also trained the battery. Let power off by itself and charging full 4 or 5 times.
as for the google thing id suggest going into settings then data synchronization.. click google and uncheck background data.. it even tells you it will save battery and lower data usage.. whenever you use market though it will ask you to enable it in order to use it.
hope it helps!!

To follow up on my test - 7 days, 18 hours with 3% battery left. Here is a quick video I made: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lt2YjrREgxg
for me i use Launcher Donut
and disable data and mms
settings > wireless controls > Mobile network settings > MMS & DATA
try it and tell me how much u will reach in the same daily using average
Removing Timescape & Mediascape totally from the home screens.
and disabling Data Sync>Gmail
battery life is showing huge improvement.
Hi Guys,
Firstly, I know there are several threads with different tips and suggestions but most of them didn't work for me.
Recently (since more than a week) , I have noticed strange drain in battery and getting hot pretty quickly. It has kitkat and I didn't get time to use it properly in the beginning. After reading different threads and forums here's what I did:
- Let it drain completely, shut off, took out battery for a couple of hrs and then charged without switching on. x2
- Rebooted after charging
- Uninstalled some apps I thought might be problematic
- Factory Reset (such a pain!)
- When attached to Kies, it prompted for Firmware update N9005XXUENC2 followed by another factory reset and hard reset.
- Cleared cache by going into recovery mode.
- Rebooting after charging
But seems like none of it made much difference, my routine use
- couple of hours on wifi
- no heavy games, only temple run, subway surf etc.
- no streaming
- no lengthy calls, not a lot of messaging
- 1, 2 hrs of music
- Syncing off, gps off, blue tooth off, Wifi mostly off, power saving on, brightness on auto, no 3g/4g data, almost no photos and video capturing, sensors, motions off except smart stay
I don't want to root the phone because of my busy schedule, with some difficulty I was able install WLD on it which resets after Rebooting. Point is, I am not a heavy user and this being a "beast" isn't quite unleashing the beasty-battery-life. I do get more than a day but that is when it's in deep sleep for 20hrs or more. I took some screenshots after reseting, updating firmware. It's past 3 battery cycles now, I will attach the latest one's to not clutter it up. I like this phone, but this battery is just not good enough. So, please helpful answers that don't require rooting.
Thank you for reading and Good day!
Is the battery drain consistant or does it happen at certain times (at home, at work, etc.)? If you are in an area where the signal changes frequently that will drain the battery because the radio is using power to maintain a connection. With wifi scanning for google services even when turned off setting make sure it is off if you dont need it. How do you charge the phone? If possible always use the charger that came with the phone, charging from a usb port from a computer is not as strong and can affect the memory of the battery and do not wait till almost dead to charge. It works best to recharge when between 35% and 45%. Look at your background services and see if anything out of the ordinary is running. And it could be possible the battery is defective and you might want to have it tested. I use my Note3 lightly and get 24 to 25 hours over two to three days (turning off at bedtime). This may not help any but this is what I have learned from others with similar situations. Good luck!

Hey MPDnnrd,
Thank you for your response.
It is sort of consistent, did you see the screen is just at 18% and the Android system at 30%? I think this is where the core problem lies - just don't know what and how to fix it.
- Signal Strength: Pretty good, hasn't been a problem
- I normally keep the wifi-scanning off and Now I turned off the location services to see the impact but then I think what's the point of premium device if you have to switch off everything.
- I prefer to use the factory-charger over usb-charging and I read it on several threads to let it completely die and then recharge, guess that didn't help.
- Background services - I don't think so, I kill all the apps as soon as I stop using them, use Greenify to hibernate other, switched off all auto-updates and notifications. Even on Playstore, I switched off the auto-updates and notifications.
- Defective Battery: Now this one, I haven't tested yet not sure how to - the phone's just 2 months old so shouldn't it be good enough?
I know they are not very helpful, but still thank you very much. :good:

I'm sorry to have to say this but I think you got a pretty normal battery drain by looking on your screens. You played almost one hour subway surf(which drains the battery pretty quick) and I guess the other hours where internet (also known to drain battery) or calls/messages. On a not rooted device with stock kernel that seems like normal battery usage to me!!!
However if you like to check these maybe u get a couple of percentages(not that much though I guess):
-Power saving mode in notification drawer makes your cpu clock go down (not sure u got it on not rooted device sry)
-check turn of pen detection in s pen settings
-put the brightness on auto or put it down manually
-if you can change the theme color in apps do so(make it black)
-check the svoice settings so it doesn't listen to your voice
-if you don't care how your phone looks buy a zerolemon battery(I think it makes your phone too big but that's preference)
-don't use a bright background keep it dark colors and no live wallpaper as well
Maybe that helps a little.
I don't see any drain either. Almost 6 hours screen on during 24 hours is excellent, additional 1.5 hour awake time for other services. Excellent battery life.
Settings - General - Applications - disable unnecessary apps
In Google Settings, opt-out interest-based ads and disable location access.
Thank you for your reponses guys - thing is it actually had much better battery life. What I don't understand is the fact that Screen % used to be on top and android os and system was below it but now it has been on top.
I have tweaked quite a few things already that 4aces suggested and the S-voice thing seems new, I'll look at it. Today it didn't even last a full day whereas I know people who even after heavy usage get easily more than a day - mine one, I don't use it this much. The Zerolemon thing is beast but then the phone is a freakin block lol so heavy and big, good travel etc. where you can't charge your phone and has a rugged case.
But there's a change that I saw today, Android System is now below the screen so I am not sure what made it do that but may the next time I charge it gets better and so on. I'll keep you guys posted after charging it today, I'll monitor what I do.
Blondasisko - I wouldn't really call it excellent, but it's sort of getting better than it was in the first 2 cycles. But how do I reduce additional awake time for other services? Moreover, you might've noticed I got till 1% to get this much time like really stretched it to get there.
Someguyfromhell - Already done, locations were off starting today.
Can anyone else comment on their daily routine of usage and the battery drainage ratio?
If I get 12 hours and 4hrs screen time I'm happy. I don't even play any games. Have a lot of accounts syncing lot of Internet and a bit on the calls, gps. I get on average 14 -16 hours
I have brightness on high. If you put it on auto it makes a big difference.

I guess I should feel lucky, I have ZERO syncing, auto brightness, no live wallpapers or gimmicky stuff on, no gps, hardly 10mins or so on phone calls and prolly 30-60mins on messaging a day.
@all others - and the Android System is back on top - what could be the possible reasons for it?
I think its because of such minimal use that the system goes on top. The system still had to operate so when you have hardly used the phone then the system will go on top. Though with that usage you've stated you should get nearer 2 days really

You're right probably, this is what I'd like to know as to what is running in the background that drains more battery? Exactly, at-least 1.5 days is what I should get with this usage. May be I should buy a new battery and see how it works.
I don't really know what's going on. My unrooted g6 running the latest security patch is getting 2,5 hours of SOT. Also, the stock camera appears to has taken up 13% today. Does anyone know what's going on?
Go to storage and clear cache files then restart, it looks like your camera app is stuck.
Mines been normal since the update so you've probably got some corrupt data in a cache.
Worst case would be a factory reset.
Try clearing the cache in your phone.. Go to settings>storage>free up spaces
1. Turn off wifi, Bluetooth, location, sync.
2. Reception looks very poor - phone will likely use more power to broadcast.
3. Use auto brightness.
4. Disable unused pre installed apps.
E.g. Never use the Calculator? Disable.
5. Any use of Facebook, Instagram, Messenger will kill battery life - tons of articles written about this.
6. Square button, clear all. Do this often to kill apps in the background.
Blind as bat
Why ppl don't accept that this phone have poor battery life? Instead starts given advice, here is some, How to get more screen time - Turn off everything wifi Bluetooth gps, throw away your sim card, uninstall every app, you are not supposed to use them, brightness to zero, if possible turn it off.
Voila! amazing battery life.
Don't believe in fake news that 1+6 means 7 hrs of screen time

your brain has 0 battery for sure to make this kind of comment...really!
my G6 gives me 5 to 6 hours of screen on time with 50% brightness all time, wifi always on and 1 to 2 hours on data network enabled when outside.
i can get over 7 and half hours if i am at home with 35% brightness (i dont need more inside home)...
you just need to do the right things, i have like 45/50 apps installed and since last update (H870 v20g) battery life are being better than ever.
of course if you talking me: oh, i have the brightness everytime at 100%, i have data, wifi, gps and bluetooth, i have messenger and facebook and instagram all over running in background - i need to tell you something: you dont need a phone, you need a notebook/laptop. PERIOD!
phone users are limited by origin, and if you know what?! buy an iphone and then say me something about battery life. oh well...you may treath your phone like a strange animal or what to dont have a good battery life, you may be wild. xD

Thank you! You proved my point.
And FYI genius, my daily usage are music while commuting (phone music, no streaming), outlook for ofc use, and twitter only. Completely debloated, no LG bloatware. May be you should have looked up before bashing here that good percentage of LG devices suffer from poor battery life, because different manufacturing in diff countries with different firmwares.
And guess what i am coming from an iphone and very satisfied with this phone, but again i am not blind and accepted the fact that not everything is perfect.
Above all that I love that you making personal comments here. :good:
