Rooted Device Keeps Rebooting... - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I recently rooted my Galaxy Note 4 (SM-910-C). At first when I was trying to change the Boot Animation I was able to copy files specifically "bootanimation.zip" to the "System/Media" folder using ES Explorer. Now whenever I try to copy that type of file or a "bootsamsung.qmg" file the phone just reboots itself. When the phone restarts and I go back to the folder I find the file is there but only with a size of 0.00 bites. Which means it did not copy correctly. Does anyone know why the phone is suddenly rebooting? Is it possible that the root is corrupted some way? Please advise how I can fix this issue. Thanks.

If you could produce a catlog we could look into it and assist you. Request you to produce them. Have u installed any xposed modules ?

The Modules I have installed using Xposed are:
> Amplify
> Grennify
> Recent App Cleaner
> Wanam Xposed
YouTube AdAway
How do I produce the catalog?

Amplify should be causing the issue even I had same I've cleared the amplify data now I've not timed any wake locks, I would you to do same and try. Also I would suggest you to install Samsung server crash fix module and enable it to check if your still facing the issue.

Ok, I did as recommended but still have the same issue... how do I get to the correct log file or catalog to understand the issue better?

Do you by chance have Xposed framework with a multiwindow module? Try disabling the module.
I do not. All I have done is root the phone. The program was working after rooting was done however after a reboot maybe a couple hours later it started the force close.

Not sure then. Only time I've seen issues is when multiwindow Xposed hack was used.
You haven't frozen any apps/bloat in TiBu have you?
I'm rooted and mine works just fine. I use it everyday.
Started Over
I finally just used Odin and all is good:good:. Thanks everybody for trying to help.
I am having the same issue. I have Xposed installed with the Xposed Wallet hack, but not the multi- window hack. I used "Multi Window Manager" from the play store to manage my MW, so I uninstalled that to see if that was causing the problem. No luck.
Running Nottach's P-Rom, Xposed framework, Xposed Wallet Hack, the CASUAL Root-Recovery.
i have rooted, debloated, done Xposed multi window hack (not enabled) and TiBU frozen apps; S Health crashes every time. so i froze it; didnt use/need/want it before.
oddly it reminded me of the 'health' functions on a watchphone i had from 2008; it had a period/ovulation calculator. wtf.
Sorry for thread jacking -- but is there a way to have the Shealth pedometer keep running all the time?

I edited my build.prop following these instructions I found online, everything now works wonderfully!
Make sure the Xposed isn’t installed.
We need to change build.prop file inside the system partition, you can also get it done manually by using a file manager app or get a build prop editor on play store.
Once you find the build.prop file, look for the “ro.securestorage.support=true” line.
Now change the line to “ro.securestorage.support=false”.
Install the Xposed framework again.
The final step is wiping S Health app data, head to System -> App Manager -> ALL -> S Health then wipes the data. Now your Galaxy S5 should be able to runs Xposed framework and S Health simultaneously without any problems.

[Q] Bloatware re-installs after reboot

Hey everyone,
I'm having a problem where a specific list of apps keep redownloading and installing again on my phone after I reboot... I want to say there was a file I had to freeze or delete so that it wouldn't install again after every boot. I remember doing it before, but I've searched for a while now and can't find which file that would be. Does anyone know which file it is? or how to fix my problem?
Thanks!

Sounds like it would be Google Play doing it to you. Go into Play Store app - menu - settings - Auto Update Apps - Never Auto Update
Was yours set to "update on wifi only"?

GPS keeps searching

It seems random but when I enable data sometimes the GPS icon will show up and it says searching using GPS. I have no apps open that would use GPS I even tried disabling it and putting the phone on airplane mode and it won't go away. Only a reboot gets rid of it. What could be causing this? How do I fix it cuz it's really annoying and drains my battery. I'm running a goldeneye ROM 4.4.2 but this problem started pretty recently. Any ideas?

Too small amount of data needed. It may be caused by ANY app you have installed which:
a) starts with system in background;
b) uese the : Access_location_fine permission
Install permissions denied or other permissions explorer and look for it.

I'll try with the permissions but like I said it shows up at random not after boot up. So if it was a startup program it would be there all the time. Is there any app that can show which apps are currently using the GPS?

Disagree.app can look for location to change the add (if localized), therefore can be random.
Of course, you can filter the apps by permissions it uses in most of permissions managers/explorers.

creating a hosts file crashes my Note 4

Hi all,
I have been using my rooted Note 4 SM-N910F for 2 months now (v4.4.4 installed).
I have rooted it in order, among others, to re-install AdAway because I can't live without it.
About 4 days ago, I had the surprise to see that adds were back in apps.
I fired up AdAway which collected new updates (it was set to automatic checking before) and when trying to install the hosts file, the phone suddenly rebooted.
Now, every time I try to add a hosts file in System/etc, the phone reboots and the file is not created. I have tried creating a "host" file.. it's working and as soon as I try to rename it to "hosts", it crashes and reboots.
Has anyone experienced the same behavior ?
What I can dot to debug this ?
I'm opened to any test you can ask me to do.
Thanks in advance
AdAway has never been that good, rooted or not.
Try AdFree http://adfree.bigtincan.com/about.php

Thanks for the advice but this doesn't explain me why my smartphone is crashing when adding a file named hosts in System/etc....
AdFree won't change this fact until I find why it reboots when creating this file.

Yes I have rooted and I have all write permission. Once again, I'm able to create a file named host, set any permission I want but as soon as I rename it to hosts, it restarts the phone.. I'm going to try to make a video to show you.
I'm thinking this morning: could this be a virus? What is the best Antivirus I could try on android?

Hey. Just out of curiosity. We're you able to find a solution for this problem. I have the same issue and is crazy annoying.
Sorry to wake old post, but I am with the same problem in the SM-A310F.
Would love to hear if anyone has a solution.
Thanks!

How I passed safetynet, got root, adblock and viper-fx to work on OOS 4.0.2 OP3T

I decided to start this thread for a couple of reasons 1 so I can remember what order I did things in to get back after a wipe and 2 so maybe it can help others to setup certain apps how they want and not have to spend the time I did searching and googling.
To start we are going to assume you already have an unlocked bootloader and TWRP installed.
After a fresh wipe I flashed OOS 4.0.2 Full from this thread in TWRP
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3t/how-to/rom-oos4-0-nougat-op3t-leaked-t3523482
I recommend a fresh wipe because every time I did a dirty flash or restored a backup my Android System started draining battery like crazy and phone would get warm while charging
Without rebooting I then flashed Magisk V10.2 in TWRP
https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445
Still without rebooting I flashed Franco Kernel in TWRP
https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...ernel-franco-kernel-r1-28th-november-t3508904
I then wiped dalvik and cache and rebooted phone.
edit - THIS STEP WILL NOT WORK ON 4.0.3. It has been patched out.
Somewhere in the process my DM-Verity was tripped and although annoying it does not seem to matter and it can be fixed later by following this
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3/how-to/fix-easy-method-removing-dm-verity-t3544339
After phone booted and I setup account and wifi and I go the play store and install PHH superuser
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=me.phh.superuser&hl=en
Once installed I open it and click the 3 dots and go to settings
Where it says Superuser access I toggle between Apps only and Apps and ADB till I get the message Superuser granted to Superuser
I then go back into play store and install Magisk manager
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.topjohnwu.magisk&hl=en
I go into Magisk Settings and click the checkbox to Enable Magisk Hide.
I then reboot phone
Once phone reboots I open Magisk manager again and check safetynet. It now passes.
I hate ads, I had been using Adaway from F-Droid with MM but I couldn't get it to work on N
I found this https://github.com/AdAway/AdAway/issues/770 after many searches. About halfway down a user named KreAch3R has comiled Sanjay900's changes into an apk so I figured I would give it a try.
At first I could not get it to activate and block ads
I installed this busybox and then it activates no problems and now most ads (not youtube) are blocked
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=stericson.busybox&hl=en
Now what I really wanted was Viper4arise. I tried flashing some in TWRP and I couldn't get them to work and this led to a couple more wipes. But I really wanted this so I kept searching.
I found this https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/viperfx-mkm-magisk-t3535401
I downloaded it and enabled it in Magisk manager
Still no luck and I couldn't get it to work.
After more googling and reading through the other threads for viper I figured it was deep buffering
I used ES file explorer as I was not at home and went into system/etc and found audio_policy.conf
I commented out the first line I saw that said deep_buffer.
After saving I rebooted and now Viper-fx works
To get it to work with Poweramp I had to set FX compatibility mode in Viper to compatible and in Poweramp audio/advanced tweaks I had to disable Direct Volume Control and Enable MusicFX.
Thanks for sharing
Did you have any special trick to get viper to work ? Tried commenting out the line deep_buffer and still unable to get viper to work.

The only steps I did are what was listed.
I was able to replicate it twice after wipes with same steps.
This is the line I commented out in attached

Would you be able to send me that file ? I am just curious what is wrong with my setup.
Just want to say thank you again. Didn't see the PM until now. I was able to use another guide on XDA to get Viper working.
Viper will not work on all apps at any time on OOS 4.0.2. Enable Compatibility mode in settings to get it to work. IMO this produces lower quality audio, but it works.
Still cant get viper working. Nothing of deep_buffer is commanded. Please can you share your audio_policy.conf?

You need to edit in a # on the deep_buffer line.

1) With what app?
2) Did you enable Viper's Compatibility mode?
3) I've also modified audio_policy_configuration.xml to remove deep buffer. Messing with this file too much will break your audio though.

Did you enable Viper's Compatibility mode? Not tried yet
I don't have changed anything inside audio_policy_configuration.xml

WHat app isn't Viper working with? Viper processes audio on a per-app basis, based on the audio buffer the app uses. Google Play Music, on Nougat, does not pipe through Viper even with modifications to the audio config.
Enable compatibility mode. At the moment this is the only way to get the highest compatibility with apps- like Google Play Music.

It's now working after disabling audio buffer. I use most of the times Spotify to listen to music
I followed same steps earlier. But my selinux is enforcing. I have to set it to permissive everytime on reboot. Permissive fix that comes with arise didnt work for me. Any idea..?
Do you think the Elemental X Kernel would be ok instead of franco kernel? Not sure if I'd get compatibility issues with any of this stuff. Btw not going to try to get adblock or viper fx. Also, do you wipe the system or just what TWRP has already checked?

Not sure. I know it all worked the same with stock kernel.
Normally when I need to wipe my phone it is because I have really messed it up so I wipe system and data.
