GPS keeps searching - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It seems random but when I enable data sometimes the GPS icon will show up and it says searching using GPS. I have no apps open that would use GPS I even tried disabling it and putting the phone on airplane mode and it won't go away. Only a reboot gets rid of it. What could be causing this? How do I fix it cuz it's really annoying and drains my battery. I'm running a goldeneye ROM 4.4.2 but this problem started pretty recently. Any ideas?

Too small amount of data needed. It may be caused by ANY app you have installed which:
a) starts with system in background;
b) uese the : Access_location_fine permission
Install permissions denied or other permissions explorer and look for it.

I'll try with the permissions but like I said it shows up at random not after boot up. So if it was a startup program it would be there all the time. Is there any app that can show which apps are currently using the GPS?

Disagree.app can look for location to change the add (if localized), therefore can be random.
Of course, you can filter the apps by permissions it uses in most of permissions managers/explorers.

Anyone have a Froyo Archos with full Market Protected App access

After the market fix has been applied I see most apps (including some that I know are protected) but not all. From my experience on the DroidX, this is usually an issue with the build.prop not reporingt a valid ROM to google.
For example, I can search on my DX for "wii controller ime" and find the app. My Archos 101 does not. (I side loaded it.)
If someone has a build.prop for an Archos Gen 8, that will see that send it my way please.
Can you tell me what you've changed in the build.prop of your DX?
ok, done:
I just took the fingerprint from a galaxy tab:

I can install apps like "Gun Bros" which I couldn't previously
This sounds cool! Is there a way a non rooted device can get this? Perhaps by some installation.apk
Thanks
Definitly not possible without root. I don't know if it's even possible with temproot
Sent from my A101IT using Tapatalk
Yeah, basically you need to fool the market into thinking you have a certified device. Not an easy task from what I understand. If you have a rooted Android phone you can download te app there, then use Titainium Backup to get the apk off the phone and side load it on you Archos. At least tha is what I do.

Hi chulri,
I follow your instruction above by modifying the fingerprint in /system/build.prop, then did the same market fix as instructed by the gappsinstall thread, reboot. I still can't find the gun bros app.
What else I have to do? (I had 2.1.4 rw root installed before doing this)
Now "My Apps" list is gone in the Google Market, can I get the list back?
Update: ok, it works now. I have to clear cache, clear data, force stop and then run the Market again. Now Gun Bros also shows up, and My Apps list also populate.
I still can't find Heywire app, anyone can see this app after this mod?
I have used archangel to root, then used marketenabler app from the market,
no other steps involved.
I seem to see all apps now (not 100% sure on that) but, definately see some protected apps that I couldnt see before and havent come across any on my HTC Desire that the Archos isnt seeing now.

I also use MarketEnabler, but I can't see, at least, Gun Bros. Once applied this build.prop mod, I can see Gun Bros.
Gun Bros is available on Archos Apps Lib anyway

Hi chulri,
Can you provide a Guide of modify it?
Because I put my build.prop into /system to replace it, then force stop the Market and clean cache, then Reboot
the fingerprint will restore by itself????
I have no idea where I goes wrong...><

[Solved]I think the Market Fix trick only work in old Market, it means you need to "Uninstall updates" after clean cache and force stop the Market.
Can someone please post up step by step how to edit the build.prop file ??
I've never done such a thing and I'm desperately trying to figure this out for a guide that I'm working on putting together..
I'm rooted (perma root) FWIW
Thanks a TON.
I use a file manager to copy the file to the sd and then connect to the computer via usb and edit with notepad++.. don't use windows notepad or wordpad as I've had problems with them. After the file is edited.. safely disconnect from the computer. Then I add .bak to the end of the original file and then copy the new edited file over to replace it.
I hope that helps. I believe there are also text editors in the market, but I like editing with a real keyboard.

Here: I"ve used the RootExplorer method detailed in this forum:
http://androidforums.com/droid-x-all-things-root/154976-2-2-market-issues-use-mod.html
Also to all: There are two states possible with the Market. Fixed if you the clear cache hack, unfixed if you do not do it or if you undo it...(to undo just do the clear Cache path but add clear data....no need to stop googleservicesframework and no need to reboot...just restart Market app and accept legal terms). The difference fixed state gives more apps but will hide some others from you: you get google maps, zeam, ADW, ...but you loose Google Earth, Flash Player 10, TVU, .... Jus to name a few. So the key thing is to know how to quicly switch from one state to the other. use the clear cache hack to get into fixed state and use my undo rootine (clear data) to revert the fix.
Once you add the fix to build prop you pretty much have now 4 possible states:
Please see my post below for my tests on the 4 different states and some conclusions
http://forum.archosfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=63&t=48312
Here's how to very easily undo the fix if you need to...
..Once you've done the Market fix you do not need to reinstall Market to go back to state before applying the fix. Once you do the Market fix you will gain access to few more apps but many apps requiring froyo will no longer show up anymore: that's the case of apps like TVU, Flash 10, .... (there must be many more). I suspect the market fix makes the device and generic device but not a froyo one.
To go back an forth between the fix and the original state all you need is to do this;
go to Settings --- Applications --Manage Applications ---Running -- Market ---Clear Cache ----Clear Data --Force Stop--Relaunch Market ---Accept Terms and Conditions ---
Voila. and you're back to the original State where you can find flash 10 & other froyo only apps.
If you do the the fix...you loose flash ..but gaine other apps...the fix skip the Clear Data steps ...and the Clear Data step will undo the fix. THe fix requires reboot..To undo it you do not need to reboot and do not need to stop googleframework.
I do this fix and after seach keyword "adnroid" i get about 143000 apps.
Is it ok?

Yes, that's fine...you good...fixed state, fixed buld.prop
but note you may still not see some apps with are available in unfixed state, fixed build.prop (like TVU, Google Earth, Adobe Connect, flash 10.01,..)
That's the con of fixed state...you gain some you loose some....

phone always rebooting? there is the solution

as we all know,if you close a program which need root ,the phone will reboot.but sometimes phone will reboot itself.why? because android system close program which need root for lacking of internal storage. you would say i didn't start any program which need root, however, you know some program start automatically when you start phone.check your auto startup list, there are some root needed program
in it. remove them and never start any root needed program, you will never meet reboot problems.
forgive my poor English,i'm a chinese.
I agree with you.For now, just wait for custom kernel and the problem will be solved.

...I agree, the problem is that apps start some times even if you didnt run the. Task killers are not so help full in such things as can know if user run them or system...
I think that this is the more annoing thing on android.
YOU HAVE NO APP OPEN, AND YOUR HALF APPS ARE RUNNING.
i am not talking for must run apps...

If it's rebooting very often, try removing overclock module, maybe that's the cause of your reboots, i got 690 MHZ OC. and while it was on 710 Mhz, it was always rebooting, so, remove OC or lower it and maybe you'll get rid of the prob

Rooted Device Keeps Rebooting...

Hi,
I recently rooted my Galaxy Note 4 (SM-910-C). At first when I was trying to change the Boot Animation I was able to copy files specifically "bootanimation.zip" to the "System/Media" folder using ES Explorer. Now whenever I try to copy that type of file or a "bootsamsung.qmg" file the phone just reboots itself. When the phone restarts and I go back to the folder I find the file is there but only with a size of 0.00 bites. Which means it did not copy correctly. Does anyone know why the phone is suddenly rebooting? Is it possible that the root is corrupted some way? Please advise how I can fix this issue. Thanks.

How do I produce the catalog?
Amplify should be causing the issue even I had same I've cleared the amplify data now I've not timed any wake locks, I would you to do same and try. Also I would suggest you to install Samsung server crash fix module and enable it to check if your still facing the issue.

Unable to grant storage and other permissions due to Screen Overlay

Hi All,
As usual it is the first place for me to look for help.
I updated my A5 2016 device with the latest security update. While installing, I was assured that i would be able to uninstall that update.
I couldn't.
But this is not the actual problem.
Now I am unable to grant permissions to apps like Camera, Storage etc because whenever I try to do that it says Screen Overlay Detected on which screen none of the apps are turned on including the system apps. I am really annoyed with this feature (or bug) of the Android Marshmallow. I seek your help in solving this.
I am rooted with custom Xposed ver 86.
Try unchecked all screen overlays, even system app ones? Also, there might be another screen overlay that might not hv been listed. Eg: if u hv pie with gravitybox enabled you have to disable it in the app itself.

Thank you so much for the valuable Help.
I recently found that some of my apps crashed suddenly and that the following error popped up: Unfortunately Phone has Stopped, Unfortunately ES File Explorer Has Stopped.
After I click OK it pops up again. So in a wonderfully foolish step I uninstalled the Phone App and now the phone will not reboot.
I uninstalled Xposed but nothing helped. Finally after lots of research on XDA and otherwise I flashed The Stock Firmware for my Phone SM-A510FD.
It rebooted just as fine but now the same problem is there and is not resolved. Moreover if i Open some app like Play Books while i am getting the error, the popup of the error stops until i open the Phone app again. I opened my phone in Safe MOde and saw that the same problem is also there which means it is not caused by some third party apps. PLease help.

I seem to have found the solution for the problem regarding crashing of the Phone App. The Phone App uses Screen Overlay in which we select SIM1 or SIM2. Turning that off would result in hampering its functionality. After i did turn on the screen overlay for Phone App, it is functioning just as fine and no crashes for atleast the phone app. I wonder to what lengths i went to solve this issue and the issue lied in my thing only.

Memory leak ?

After working an hour or so, the android tv becomes sluggish or even frozen.
If I then use the remote to switch off, then it will no longer restart and the only solution is to remove and reinsert the power plug. Then everything is normal again.
Sometimes it works a few days without problems.
Cleaning cache and restarting apps does not help.
Not sure but I suspect only internet browsers cause it, not apps like HBO or Youtube, though they also become sluggish. I tried many browsers, and none made the problem disappear (some sometimes caused videos to severely blink)
Device is Thomson 43UE6400 made by TCL V8-R851T02, now v645 but tested many previous firmware versions.
Any help? Thanks-
You need to look at ram usage. If it's topped off, look at individual apps to find the culprit.
In Android I use Running Services in Developer options.
Thanks . My developer menu doesnt show such option, so I am looking for a memory monitoring app.
I will inform here in case i solve this.
If you can run the app DevChek, it does.
You need to be able to see ram usage, it's an important tool...

You have to remove system app which you dont use for example google music
How to do it?
Download kingo root https://root-apk.kingoapp.com/kingoroot-download.htm
install it, open it connect wired/wireless mouse, press get root, wait for it to get root, if it is stuck at 90%, press back and an error will appear, close the app, delete kingo root from settings app section. turn off and turn on again you will see superuser app open find app section then select system apps and select one of them which you dont use then press delete.

A trojan preloader wouldn't do anything at first...
Loading unknown firmware is high risk.
This one is already attempting to exploit known vulnerabilities to achieve root, not a good start.
