move your router to the center of your home......... S4 has good reception your router needs better antennas or moved.
I can go on all three floors of my flat here in Hong Kong its made of rock not wood like most homes in the west. So i think its your router position and you need stronger antennas on the router.

Use WiFi analyser app to see if there is overcrowding on the channel you are using. If there is then change channel.
If it's not that, you can flash a new baseband.

Fix antenna/reception issues?

Has anybody had a problem where the reception is really bad on the phone? Previously, my reception was fine. However, the phone fell off the couch and onto some hardwood flooring yesterday. I believe the problem started after that. I am only able to receive 0-1 signal bars now, whereas the phone maintained full bars in my house prior to the drop. The phone goes into and out of service a lot as well. I'm not even sure it was the drop that is the cause of this problem because it was only from about 3 ft(height of the couch).
I'm hoping there is an easy fix.
What modem do you have?

D18 with phx 1.49 and epic experience 2.08. I did a factory reset just in case, but that did nothing...just how I anticipated.
You could try airplane toggle and prl update.
took the phone apart. hoped it was just a loose cable from the antenna. That wasn't the case. the phone is pretty much garbage now.
Did you try re-attaching both ends of the cable from the radio side to the antenna part at the bottom? Pop off the antenna module and re-attach it and see if that helps.
Sound like it might have been a cold solder joint. Drop it and the weak joint breaks. If its dead now any ways you might try heating the pcb to try and reflow the joints.

I opened up the phone but I couldn't find where the solder joint was. err. I should have looked harder.
any idea where it would be ?

which part is the antenna module? I was hoping it was a loose cable. I saw there was a cable on the right side. I tried plugging it in but it seems that it wasn't loose. I also checked all the other cables.
Is the upper right hand corner the antenna, or is it all those r2 w1 connections?
Well, if you're asking if I have really bad reception after I dropped my phone onto a hard surface, most likely breaking a solder for the antenna, then no. I haven't done that yet.
On a lighter note, the DK17 modem is very noticeably better than the DI18 modem in 4G as well as better WiFi signal and less spotty CDMA issues. The main fix I saw was the 3G/4G hand-off being much, MUCH more seamless than it is on DI18.

Wifi antenna

This is my first post here, so I hope you will be patient with me. My wifi on my Acer iconia tab a500 has been poor no matter what from I would flash. Today I decided to try something. I went to a friend who works on laptop computers. I got two antennas from him, which have the same connector as the one in my tab. After installing it I am getting two to three bars, where before I only barely got one. I will write a install instructions, and post some pics. I am very pleased with my wifi now.

If you could get the part number, i was Experimenting with this before, but none if my replacements were any better.

I don't have a part number, he just cut them from the laptop he had apart. I checked at a computer store the other day, and was told they cost about twenty bucks. I will ask my friend if he can get a part number. All I know is that after I put it in my Acer tab a500 is getting on internet a lot faster.
The Antenna that i used is from my old desktop i just cut the metal part (the flat with circles) to fit it to the side of the tab..
Again i did numerous of try and test using WIFI analyzer from market to position which is the best loop/setup/placing to get a better signal again my wire is long and i don't have a short one i don't want to cut my wire short but i don't know what setup is best for you and your router mine is E4200 here's a couple of pics i took hope it will help.. so far i haven't been/experienced any slowdown or disconnection while doing that mod..
You folks should check the Transformer Prime forum. Those users came up with some very clever ideas on improving the Prime's Wifi when the first editions were released.

wifi antenna
Today is day two, and wifi still showing two-three bars. Will post pics and info this weekend. The one thing I don't know is what the small circuit board attached to the antenna is. I do know the one in the tab is very thin. If it is importment I may make my own from guality PC board material.

I'm hoping you could find the TF Prime forum here at xda without help?

You're on your own looking through the threads for all the images. Should be easy to find

Well fellas I believe I have solved my wifi problems. Yesterday after installing the antenna off of a laptop, I have been getting two to three bars. Still good today. Before I installed it my tab said signal strength poor, today it day's signal strength good. I have a Link router, and there is a furnace between me and the router, and signal is good where before it was poor. Will post pics tomorrow.

Thanx interested in this since the a500 gets "amazing" wifi signal haha how much did parts cost in all and do you have the part number or the labtop you took them out of ;-)

Well, there were a ton of images in several post's, and it was over a month ago when I saw them. Some of them, it appeared they got some wifi router antenna's, drilled holes in the back cover, and attached them for Wifi and GPS!!!! Looked like martian spaceships!! One actually had 3 (bluetooth?).
Another idea, for the 500, is to route a longer cable antenna through the fake 3g Sim slot and affix it to the outside of the cover.
All of them claimed their mods worked fantastic! You just have to root through all the posts to find them.
wifi antenna
The tab is still running at two to three bars while I am in my bedroom. I have included some pictures if they come up right. I don't have a serial number for the antenna, as my friend cut it out of the laptop while I was there. The laptop was a HP. I do not have wires running around the outside, nor does it look like a martian spaceship. Draw your own conclusions from the photos. I believe these antennas for laptops run around $25.00 here in Colorado Springs. I don't think you need the attached tiny circuit board that is on the old antenna. Everything is still running good. Hope you enjoy, and hope I have helped. This worked for me, and I have a $40.00 Dlink wireless router in the living room. I have the pictures on my computer and can't get them to this post. Try latter this evening. Well it looks like they poped up after all. Enjoy.
I believe this is the mod moscow was refering too, about the space ship like look to it. Im about to just stick the antenna through the sim card slot and just keep it in the case this should be epic

Thanks for posting the pics. Could you identify exactly where the laptop antenna is in your 3rd and 4the photos ? Thanks.
Wifi antenna location
I hope the enclosed picture will help. If it doesn't then let me know, and I will make a video. If the circuit board from the old antenna is important, I will probably build one after payday and see if it does better. Right now I have no problems at all, and it was $0.00 cost for me.

Nexus 7 wifi and 3g antenna

Where is the 3g antenna inside the nexus 7 (3g version) because when i'm using 3g i get 3 bars (signal strength) , but when i put my nexus in a case it drops to 1 bar. (its a case where i can use my nexus 7 while inside the case , it doesn't cover the screen).
i'm wondering if i'm blocking the 3g antenna/signal with the case?
my wifi signal is 4 bars and it stays at 4 bars even when i use it inside the case , so wifi is not being affected , just 3g.

The case shouldn't be blocking the 3g signal unless the case is metalic or (possibly) the case has an overly powerful magnet to shut off the screen when not in use and that is affecting the 3g when its on. I could see that causing an affect potentially.
As far as I am aware, the aerial is in the back of the case and from a very unscientific test of "putting my hand over bits of my Nexus" it appears that it is mostly affected by anything blocking the top of the Nexus (near the camera).
I've got mine in a leather roocase and have no difference between in the case and out. Position of the Nexus relative to the horizontal makes a much greater difference than anything else I've found.
its not metallic , but it does have a magnet on it to close the case . nice to know its up the top where the camera is , thanks for letting me know , i will keep a eye on it and maybe buy a new case!

Here is an image of the inside of the case,
The 3G Radio Antenna is the Horizontal Bar under black tape in the top 1/3 with the 2 connectors top and bottom centre of it
GPS Unit above it, Wifi To Side of Case.

I cant see the 3g antenna on that pic , is it in the top left where it says BOT from looking at the pic? or is that totally wrong!?

[Q] Where is the 3G antenna?

My Nexus 7 3G signal is weaker than before after a RMA screen replacement.
Just curious where the 3G antenna is so maybe I can fix it by myself.
There seem to be 3 antennas on the back cover: Wifi, GPS and probably an NFC antenna(?).
So what about GSM?
I have searched around and found a similar thread but the photo is now dead:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2020248
i am having the same issue. The screen cracked and I sent it to squaretrade for repair. Now the signal is weak and sporatic. Did you ever get this resolve? I think it may be EMI. They are not giving me an easy time becuse the connection still "works".

Poor Signal after Replacing Digitizer

Originally I had great service 3-4 bars continually, I dropped my S4, got a small crack it, tried to replace just the glass screen and I mistakingly hit the digitizer and had to replace it. I replaced the digitizer and have the phone on, however I am barely able to make any calls now. In the last 6 hours I was able to make 1 successful call. Even wigle wifi where I would usually see ATT at around -103db is showing -110db or not showing the ATT signal at all. Even going down to where I know normally I get -59 db to ATT I am getting no signal or in and out signal.
I have tried to swap out the internal antennas.
What is suggested? I have obviously turned the phone off and on multiple times during the last 6 hours, so something more informative than the basic, please....
Where did you have the digitizer replaced?
Where did I get it from?
I replaced it myself. It was a very simple replacement, but I do not see what role the digitizer would play in the signal?
Just confirmed even being less than 100ft away from a tower. I have no bars, previously I had 5 bars in the same area. It fails to register on ATT as well.... seems something is funky with the radio or antenna. I have swapped out 3 antennas of different length, all giving the same results.
It must be the schematic of this board. It is for sprint, not ATT. Although the PCB has the radio on it, it seems like the bottom of the attachment has 2 separate antenna connectors where as my PCB has one.
Odd. Very Odd! I am going to grab a I-377 one AT&T logo and see if that helps. It is something with antennas because even when I remove the antenna the signal is identical.

You need an att one that's why.

Same problem with the GSM version of the Nexus 7. You can use the bezel from the 32 GB WiFi model, but it won't have these special little contacts needed for the radio to work property. You need the AT&T parts. Always get parts specifically for your model number.
