I am on AT&T and planning to upgrade from an old Galaxy S2.
The galaxy s4 costs about 19 per month on the AT&T Next 24 month plan, while the S5 runs 27 per month. In short, the S5 is about $190 more (over 24 months). Is the higher price of the S5 worth it?
Not a gamer and good camera is important. We have a new born so we do take quite a bit of pictures. Although I don't know if S5's camera is noticeably better.

The camera alone(I have a newborn too) should answer your question. S4 has 8 megapixels, S5 has 16. Huge difference, IMHO. Congrats by the way. I had the S3 and jumped right to the S5 because the S4 is alot like the S3. I'd go with the S5, faster processor, bigger screen, much better camera. And congrats

s4 has 13, s4 active has 8.
Thanks. I don't think I want to pay $27 * 24 months + tax = ~695 bucks. I can buy the same for about 150 less new elsewhere. Did you go with the AT&T next/2yr or buy it outright?

I have run into a problem! I LOVE Google and have been waiting for the Nexus 4 to be available. I am due for an upgrade so TMO will sell me the N4 for $200 but the S3 for free. Which one is better for the next two years? Should I dish out $200 and get the Nexus 4? Or should I save my money and stick with the S3 and perhaps get the much awaited S4..

That $200 comes with a huge caveat. You have to pay $15 a month until you pay off the total of $499.99.
$299 or $349 off contract versus $500 "upgrade".
Yeah no thanks T-Mobile

That's only true with some plans, others just have the $200 price (after $50 MIR).
I'm due for an upgrade, too; I'm thinking about buying the N4 from the Play Store and then using the upgrade on a free S3 (through this upcoming sale: http://www.tmonews.com/2012/11/t-mobile-holding-two-day-samsung-sale-on-november-16th-17th/) and selling the S3 to get some/all of the N4's cost back.
I was thinking the same thing!

I was thinking the exact same thing! Except why go through all that trouble when I can keep the SIII..Because when the S4 comes out I can simply sell the SIII for a reasonable price which will help me get the S4 but the N4 is cheap with Google meaning I cant sell it for much cheaper..
S3 is beast but slow with updates and more expensive when buying off contract. Nexus 4 is beastly but not as much as S3 and you will be first for updates plus $329 off contract. Get the Nexus.

The S3 will be free for me with a sale TMO is having next friday though Also the US S3 (the one I am contemplating on getting) is duel-core while the N4 has a much appreciated quad-core CPU so wouldnt that make the N4 superior to the S3?

dont focus on cores, focus on the entire package. camera, micro sd slot, battery, etc look at the entire package as well as what the total price will be.

If s3 was offered for free I see why there is any hesitation. s3 for sure and is no brainer.
I would go with note 2 though if u were to pay 200 for a new phone on a contract.
N4 ON CONTRACT for 200 is such a ripoff and is just absurd.

Is it going to be around $650 outright? I have a Nexus 4 which is on its way but might switch to the S4 if it's around $400
I doubt the SIV will be 400$
but hopefully less than 700 since that's my parents current budget lol
(or else I'll have to buy it when the price drops)
it's most likely going to be at the 650-700 range for outright,
maybe like 299 on contract.
I think everyone and their mother would buy one outright if it was $400. I'd be first in line. I would guess at least $700
Even the nexus 4 costs more than 400 outside the play store lol.
EDIT:
First lot of 2 GT-I9500 for US $1375:

Second lot of 2 GT-I9500 for US $1225:

Buy it now sells 1 @ US $830-840 (16 - 64 GB) w/ free shipping.
Buy it now guy also selling 20 64 GB for $10,000 and many other deals.
Here's a new one buy it now from the UK, a 64 GB for US $752 or GBP 500: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gal...ntageCostumeJewellery_CA&hash=item4d0a0e7d18c Note the picture though and the description says "Main Stone: Rhinestone", LOL.
I was sure any early ones would be at least $1k, but guess I was wrong. Maybe more in the $600-$800 range ?
The auctions were UK and buy it now is US. I've heard GT-I9500 (these) were selling in China already.
Is the GS4 already a relative flop, compared to expectations ? More of an incremental upgrade from the S3 ? S3 will get many software features. Is no LTE an issue on International version ?
BTW, I've bought about 20 phones in the last few years, for app testing, and most were from EBay. China or Hong Kong are usually well priced sources for most phones these days. I usually buy from a vendor that has better ratings 99+% and charges $10 more though.
WTF
where do you guys live expecting the GS4 to be 600 dollars outright?
Here in Australia, the GS3 was close to 800 outright, so I assume the GS4 will be around that same price...
Ayee, then again Australia always gets the short end of the stick,,
It'll be like $300/$350 with a contract and $600/$650 without most likely.
My guess.

How much does the Samsung Galaxy S4 cost? ... had enough with my iphone5 its about time now!
How long is a piece of string? It depends what country you're buying it in, what model you want, and whether you want it sim free or with a contract.
Here in the UK it costs around £450 sim free or for free on a £30-£35 a month 24 month contract.
Hi guys I am in a Dilemma what phone should I get the Galaxy S4 or Nexus 4? the difference is about 250 290$, Is it worth it getting the S4? Which one is better I don't want to waste my money.

Yes on a 50 a month, the device itself costs about $580 plus tax and shipping about $610, anyways the nexus 4 I will have to pay 50 a month to use it too, so nexus is $299 + $10 shipping and about $23 tax is about $342 vs $610 of the S4

Hi, $300 difference is pretty big The Nexus 4 has A S4 Pro CPU and S4, 600 Snapdragon, so added to to that you a paying 300 more for a Bigger screen, 1080p AMOLED, 13 MP camera and faster Processor also faster LTE and HSPA+
I have both phones I would not worry about specs. The N4 out performs s4 any day of the week. It also looks premium and much nicer. However it has no SD card, crappy battery life compared to s4 and even a crappier camera plus no LTE which are some major negatives. If you don't care about those things then N4 is better.
It's up to you to get the phone, Think about it, You are going to have a phone for a long time so better if you get the best instead of getting stuck with what the nexus 4 can only offer. I do have the S4 and If you have the money go for it in The long run the 300 dollars are 100% worth it. Trust me

Thanks Guys I just bought the S4!
Here is a good breakdown on the differences: http://www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Samsung-Galaxy-S4,Google-Nexus-4/phones/7597,7531
For me it came down to extras not justifying the expense. For others it may be worth it. Main differences IMHO are 13MP vs 8MP camera, 5" Supset AMOLED vs 4.7" IPS LCD display, microSD card slot and branded vs unbranded android.

if you like waiting forever for updates then get the s4. if u like to be on the latest and greatest version of android then get the n4. :highfive:
If I remember correctly, the gs4 may be released on the play store with stock android soon.
That said, I have an n4 on t-mobile with lte enabled & I just recently bought my mom a gs4 on Verizon. They are both very nice phones. I prefer the n4 but the gs4 is impressive as well.
I don't think you can go wrong with either phone except that a branded gs4 will inevitably suffer in the update department.
If possible, I would recommend stopping by a T-Mobile store where you should be able to play around with both phones to see if either stands out to you.
Good luck!

I wouldn't recommend the GS4 to anyone - it's a complete lagfest.
The N4, even though 6 months older still remains the fastest and smoothest phone out there.
For the price of a GS4 you could buy the Nexus 4 right now and even the Nexus 5 in Oct/Nov if Google keep their prices the same.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Snapdragon S4p and S600 are identical GPU wise and are not very far when the N4 is on an appropriate ROM with optimizations. In the benchmark thread here people score 23K+ in antutu. Anyway I would not spend over $200 more for just a alight spec bump when the nexus is a better value.

That's true. But the way I look at it is a bit different. The price difference is 300$; which is another nexus. Assuming the nexus 5 is going to be priced at $300. I will have a n4 and a n5 for roughly the same price as one s4. Regardless, you cannot go wrong with either choice. Both are great phones
Seriously who would even consider buying a Samsung device over a N4.
Even with those better specs, they mean nothing. Who cares over a 1080p screen, 13mp, and whatnot. The difference is marginal and for most not even noticable.
So save your money, buy an N4. And stop getting excited over the latest specs, because they're marginal improvements anyway.
Might as well be a fanboy and go and buy a new Apple/Samsung phone each year then and be a dipstick and waste 700 euro on phone's that are produced for less then 100 euro, just because it has something "new and ""great"" that the N4 doesn't have.
Bought my N4 last months, it has specs that will last another 2-3 years for most.
You should probably wait because there is going to be an s4 with the snapdragon 800 SoC.
Hey guys,
just sold my N7000 today and now I need a new phone asap lol.
I actually wanted to buy the Note 3 - but man its so expensive - I got my note 1 for 300€ like 1 and a half years ago after I sold my Galaxy S for 200 - so that upgrade only cost me 100€ which was a good deal I think.
Note 3 will at least cost 550€ at this time - got my N7000 sold for 250€ so thats 300€ I would have to put on top - more than I got for the old one lol... argh
Now I saw the S4 goes for around 350€ new or nearly new (not retail, but private sellers) and I'm really starting to wonder if the Note 3 really is worth the 200€ extra?
What does it have over S4 aside from S-Pen (I didn't use it much on my N7000 but the new one is alot smoother I found when I tried the note 3 in a store).
Does the S4 also have IR to control TV etc? It only has Snapdragon S600 but thats still good for years I'm sure unless you're a heavy gamer.
How about battery life? How does the N3 battery life fare against the S4? Reception, features etc?
Mainly targeting this to former S4 users, please need your opinion guys.
Most importantly:
If I get an S4 without new knox bootloader, that will be customizable just like my n7000 was without tripping the efuse right? I would love to use CM (if possible without voiding warranty off course) - and on the N3 I would probably have to stick with stock...
I paid for my HK N900 international 32gb black: 468€
The battery life on the n3 is astronomically better.
You pay the 200 EUR more for bigger screen, Snapdragon 800 & S Pen.
Besides the bigger screen, the snapdragon 800 (vs. the snapdragon 600) and the spen, is there anything else?
--
Can also someone drop a word on the bootloader thing? N3 only ships with locked bootloader while there are S4s out with unlocked one still right? And with unlocked I can install stuff like CM without knox warranty void?

I would have already bought it 10 times by now if there wasn't this knox and warranty bs, that's really a turnoff somehow - but if i get a nice deal ill grab one anyway i guess.
If it means anything to you. I came from a S4 Galaxy and I only paid $29.99 for it with a 2 year commitment. Unfortunately for me as soon as I saw the Note 3 I needed it. I am not normally the one to upgrade and "waste" my money on phone too often. Normally change approx every 18 months when my carrier allows me to.
Oh, forgot to mention. Did I regret it? NO. I sold my mint condition S4 for $360 and paid over $800 for the note 3! Roll on the Note 5 in September 2015 for me next LOL.
I remember holding the S4 in my hand for the very last time before meeting up with buyer, it did feel nice and ergonomic.
Note 3 is way better.. I can see screen outside on daylight. Unlike S4 screen.
