Good News for Gapgate. Let the phone vibrate in your pants. - T-Mobile Galaxy Note 4 General

Here's some good news for those that were concerned over gap-gate. Let the phone vibrate for a little while in your pants, and the gap somewhat fills, somewhat minimized. I just noticed the difference it made. Sam-sung just relieved us.

This has to be the funniest unboxing video yet,

OK, I'll bite. How does letting the phone vibrate in your pants do anything for gapgate? This seems just utterly ridiculous but I'm genuinely curious as to the reasoning for this thread...

That video.
Made me feel dirty.

You are a bad person.

Lol, I'm just glad I didn't make that unboxing video. When I first received the Note 4 from T-Mobile, there was a half a millimeter gap between the right bezel and frame. I was at a dinner yesterday and the phone was vibrating in my left jean pocket, didn't bother responding due to the fact I was having a splendid time and didn't want anybody to screw the vibe. When I got hope, I noticed the gap was somewhat sealed up on the right side, and now both left and right sides of the phone appear equal.
I know this is not a permanent solution to gap-gate. As the phone vibrates over time, the gap will begin to surface on the left right, and vice versa.
It's a strange phenomenon, but wanted to throw it out there on XDA.
I hope I didn't wet anyone's pants. That's the responsibility of the person who made that nasty unboxing video. Dah-Duh-Daaah....

I dropped my Treo 600 in a freakin lake about 2 months after getting it. I dove in and got it, threw it in the boat and it was dead, dead, dead. Took it home and it sat on the counter the remainder of my vacation. At first you could see the unit exhibiting small signs of life and eventually it came back and worked 100%. Sometimes miracles happen

Wow, I'm surprised your Nexus One still works dude.. guess HTC's testing process did do some good. Or, you just got extremely lucky somehow.
On an off-topic side note, did anyone notice in the video where the Nexus One fell, the screen did not crack? I assume this was an almost final version of the product? Why though, does when people drop their phones on the concrete it still breaks? If HTC went through this rigorous testing process, why are phones breaking so easily?.. Of course glass breaks easily, but did the material they dropped the phone on was not as dense or hard enough as concrete? Or was it simply the multiple angles they tried..

In the video it looks like the phones are dropped from what appears to be rather less than hand-holding height, onto a surface that appears to be slightly rubbery. Concrete tends to be rather unforgiving no matter what you drop on it.
In December, I dropped my HTC Magic into a kid's swimming pool, left it to dry for one day and it's still in great working condition today =)
Did this exact same thing to my old Nokia 8190 back in the day, and the bowl wasn't "fresh". Phone came out fine other than the battery life dropped to 6-8 hours of standby, ended up carrying a spare in my wallet.
Oh lol, nice reaction tho..

Evo survives 70mph slide on interstate

Hey everyone,
This is my first post here. Figured you might enjoy seeing how my dad's new Evo stood up after falling out of his front pocket on the interstate on the way to work. He did have a hard outer case covering the back and the sides. You can see from the pictures where it landed on the one corner and shattered the screen. It does function fully and you would never know that it had been dropped at 70mph and run over by a car if the screen weren't shattered. If you ask me, it held up pretty good.
*** I guess new users aren't able to post links until verified by a moderator but you should be able to figure out how to get these to work.

wow.... how did it fall out again???
cant wait to see the pics
My dad was riding his motorcycle to work and it fell out of his pocket when he hit one of our city's famous bumps in the middle of the highway and it threw the back end of his bike up in the air. He was doing an unintentional endo in the middle of the highway at 70mph.
damn!!! sorry... that is one big bump to force a big phone out of his pocket!..
i hope he has insurance on the phone!
That's the ultimate drop test!

I'll try to attach them...
That's awesome though! Not the drop, but that it still works!
Awe man that sux, but I can relate! I had that happen to me once with my Sprint Diamond. On a Vmax and pulling away from an R1 in a red-light to red-light drag, I'm looking in my mirror at the guy on the R1 and notice my phone sliding on the road along side him. The hardest part was to forfeit the race and then turn around to go get it. Glad I did though. The phone suffered only a rash to it's backside. The screen was still perfect.
This Evo is going in an Otter case, as soon as they are released.

Texas man injured when Droid screen explodes !

CEDAR HILL, Texas — A North Texas man talking on his cell phone was rushed to a hospital after his phone apparently exploded Thursday morning.
Aron Embry was at Ray Elementary in Cedar Hill at the time of the incident. The man said he had just finished a call when he said he heard a loud "pop."
He then felt something trickling down his face; it was blood.
His ear then began to bleed profusely, and he was immediately taken to the emergency room at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas. He received four stitches, but said there was no hearing loss.
The glass on the face of the Motorola Droid smartphone apparently shattered. He said he had just purchased it just two days ago.
"Once I got to the mirror and saw it, it was only then I kind of looked at my phone and realized that the screen had appeared to burst outward," he said.

glad i got the droid x not a regular one lol
I call BS on this instance of a phone "exploding"! In the video, the phone has a few small cracks in the glass up near the speaker. I bet that fat redneck sat on his phone and he didn't have insurance so he conjured up a fantastic excuse to get a new phone and some money.

Nothing is wrong with rednecks in general. I spent half my life on the gulf coast of Mississippi and many of my friends were good ol country boys and girls. With that said, i knew many who would take advantage of any situation to try and get money, and this fits the bill. Sorry if I offended you.
if he had just finished the call, why was the phone still next to his head? And could he have been holding it too hard to his ear?
But aside from that, could it be possible that an impurity of the speaker's magnet caused it to fail?
I call shananagins on that it looked very much faked

I'm not sure what kind of impurity you think might cause something like this. If there speaker in the phone does indeed use a magnet (I'm not sure of the type of construction), it would be tiny as all hell, and if there is a typical speaker cone, you couldn't push enough power into it to make it do anything more exciting than fry the voice coil.
Now if the battery exploded, that could do some serious damage. It's unlikely, but theoretically possible, except I don't see how it would work after a Li-on explosion. His head and the phone both catching fire instantly, would be more likely.

So pissed, dropped my phone!

Went out for a friends birthday last night....had way too much to drink, I guess sometime last night I dropped my phone as I woke up to one of the corners being pretty bashed in, upsetting thing is I have a case that is in the mail right now! Looks like it took a good fall judging from the damage but the screen survived if that says anything.
Oh, that sucks! I feel for you, but at least the screen survived. But you know, the first scratch is the hardest. After that, it hardly bothers any more, so this could be a blessing in disguise, allowing you to go bareback (no case) without worrying so much about it. I'm a bareback guy; I can't stand even an extra millimeter of bulk on my devices.
Just annoyed that the case is in the mail, I don't even remember dropping it.

Thats crap Oh if you don't remember dropping it then maybe some jealous friend of yours purposely dropped it? xD
I learn 2 lessons to day
1. Don't get drunk
2. Find a rubber casing
Sorry to hear about that.
Hopefully a rubber case will hide the damage?
I have attached an attractive part-leather lanyard to my speaker grille that I loop around my wrist when I'm using the phone walking down a busy street.

Or you could bring a cheap Android phone when going on a drinking crawl.
I use a £50 Motorola Flipout, does almost everything the Note can do and have a physical keyboard which makes typing so much easier when I had few drinks in me.
Anyway to OP feel your pain, and we all done it with our phones. At lest the screen is fine and like other had said, once you put the case on you might not notice the damage.

+1! People care about the design, the weight and the size of their gadgets and then slap a case on them!?!?!
I have NEVER used a case on any of my smartphones, I can't stand even an extra millimeter or an extra gram (besides making them ugly).
I have dropped my Galaxy S 3 times: no damage whatsoever.
I have dropped my Galaxy SII once: no damage whatsoever.
I haven't (yet?) dropped my note but I prefer to have to deal with the possible consequence of a drop than to have to live with a case..

Note 20 Ultra: Dust / Fogging issues in camera lens in some review units

Looks like some people with review units are reporting that their Note 20 Ultra cameras are fogging up, there is moisture in the lens that was not there out of the box. Also some are saying there are dust particles in the camera lens. Hopefully these are isolated issues in review units.
Samsung's response in the attached thumbnail is not very encouraging though.

You must be in a seriously remote part of Canada.
-50 with bare hands/thin gloves for pics must mean a lot of frost bite for you. Tell your company to get you a point and shoot camera rather than risking your $1800+ phone. They're dirt cheap now and you could leave your big mitts on.

I'm in the Winnipeg area, so I feel ya.
Even with them covering part of the phone I'd be scared.
This honestly does not seem like a big issue at all. Every where there is some freak out about the devices that does not carry on. I live in Japan. It gets absolutely muggy here during the summer. People take a device that is built of metal and glass from a cold, air conditioned environment of 20C with little humidity and then suddenly step outside in temperatures in the 30C's with humidity near 80%, then expect this cooled glass and metal sandwich to ignore the laws of physics?? It has been rainy in Seoul, Korea the past week.
It is good to note any issues that a newly launched phone may have, yet I think people take things to the extreme these days. Every new phone is going to have a specific number of units with failures and defects.
Or they rushed out a product and released it before fully testing
Err that’s one user? Hardly an issue.
Do you think they done something to camera glass due to the incidents that happened with the s20 ultra
I mean they did something related to pressure as some s20U was broken with no reason as if they where under pressure
I saw people comment that this was an issue on older samsungs too when moving from extreme temperatures. Doesn't seem like too big of an issue as long as it returns to normal after the device warms up. This is an issue with camera lenses for real cameras as well.
Over 8k people in the Facebook group I'm in, and not one person has the issue.

That means the issue is not widespread, which is good. Someone on Samsung reddit posted they had this issue in USA I believe.
Code:
https://www.reddit.com/r/samsung/comments/idoxdx/check_note_20_ultra_camera_for_dust/
I am in France and bought from Orange unlocked 256gb Exynos Mystic Bronze, and I have dust in the middle camera. Mail sent to Samsung to see what they will do. It wasn't there when I bought it, its the first thing I checked when I got it out of the box.
With the fogging issues in Camera some other issues over there to
I was suspected of some other issues in my Note 20 Ultra the many times 20ffp delay while using a smartpen. usually, I was using my Ipad for designing ULM Diagram For Assignment but this time I was using my new note so I suspected this delay.
