Google hidden auto updates. - Optimus L3, L5, L7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently restored my phone with clockworkmod recovery. After that, when I use Google Play, it doesnt download any apps I choose but my data manager shows that some app is downloading something. It wasted about 60 mb. My downloads started after that. I noticed an app called Google Settings. I could successfully stop the Google Play Store update using Terminal Emulater. But this Google Settings keeps installing after a restore. Any solutions to stop this hell update which eats my storage space. Thanks in advance.:what:

The Google Settings in question are the Google Play Services.
You can remove them but the Play Store (and some apps) require them, so i don't recommend to do so.

I tried it for.other apps. Like books and voice recorder but it only worked with youtube?
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
I only tried with youtube, these other apps I dont will use and dont try with these. and I uninstalled it, these apps appears like youtube app in titanium backup
edit: I tried install google voice and google earth and no problem for me
I had a same problem on my Nexus S, what I did was, I navigated to /system/app/ folder on my phone with ES File Explorer, found the YouTube.apk and reinstalled it from there!
PS. Android Market and my phone showed the application as installed, and all options were greyed out (Open, Install, Uninstall)!
I fixed it with ep file explorer. Fix the youtube app
But still have problems with voice recorder thinkfree office and others that wont install and show up in my menu.

Try downloading an uninstaller app from the market.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
What is that? Can you give me a name of one?

I cannot uninstall it with a free app. Google vpice or thinkfree are not even visible.
I can only see these apk files with ep file.explorer

My odd solution:
-Download GApps from Rom Manager...or wherever
-Flash GApps via recovery
-Reboot (Still no YouTube...)
-Go to Market
-Re-install Youtube from Market
When my YouTube "disappeared", it "appeared" in the Market as installed but the Open and Unistall buttons were greyed out. The icon in the drawer and the widget option were both gone.
I don't have that Think Free Office icon either in the apps drawer, but the TFO is installed in my phone. I was little bit confused about that thing, but now I see it's a common issue...?
I find it in xoom forum, thought it might help
If you have had a problem with the missing YouTube and/or Google Books applications, we have a workaround you can try.
Connect to WiFi network. (So far it looks like only WiFi Xooms have had this issue. Let me know if you have this on a Verizon Xoom.)
Go into Settings > Applications > Manage Applications
Go to the "All" tab and then scroll down and select "Google Partner Setup."
Clear Data.
Reboot your Xoom. (That is, turn it off and on.)
If this doesn't work, perform a factory reset (Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset) and try the sequence above again.
Please let me know how if this works for you.

How? Was it the suggestion to clear data from the Google Partner Setup or something else?

My downloaded Google play apps won't show

Anybody else having this issue?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA App
Did have.the same issue but only lasted a little while until rebooted.
Just wondering, have you tried logging out of your account and re entering it?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
Yes, i did login and logout from my account. I did solve my problem already though. apparently, when I played with the market tools in titanium I inadvertently linked several apps to google play that were not supposed to be linked in the first place. I had to go through them and unlink them via titanium and it fixed the problem. I downloaded MARKET FIXER to determine which apps needed to be unlinked.
Hope this thread would be of help to anybody who would experience the same problem.
I do wonder if they're tweaking some settings with the new play market... I did a hard reset (because I froze stock dialer.... Big mistake ;-) ) and since, on usual dpi settings that have always worked before, 200, 240, I'm getting the error my device is not supported... Googled it and there are a lot of new posts about this since the update. Dunno if it's related.
I do have titanium but have never touched the market settings...
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda premium
This is an old issue and it is caused by the Gallery and a few other system settings being mistakenly linked to the Google Play market which leads to the removal of the apps in My Apps section.
Indeed the best solution is Market Fixer as the OP has discovered above and the link is below:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.kstudio.marketfixer
You usually only need to remove the system app market links to get it to work. This procedure needs to take place after every firmware update too. Before the apps return after using the Market Fixer, you can download a free app and install it from the Market to refresh your apps.
Yes that works perfectly, but you have to know that now your google account is corrupted for life with those system apps liked to it. Now everytime you flash or update a rom, you will have to go through this to get back a functioning market... sucks big time. F***ing titanium backup, and me for being stupid and use it to screw with the market... oh well, I have good health so that is what is important, it's just a phone...

Do we need GooglePlayservices.apk?

I've removed the GooglePlayservices.apk from my phone and not one of the Google apps has lost functionality. What is it used for?
A message comes up in YouTube when I first open it after wiping cache saying I need GooglePlayservices.apk or it won't work but I dismiss it and it works fine.
Also Google search bar says it needs it to work...... It doesn't.
Anyone know what it says ACTUALLY used for?

Hi There,
Google Play services is used to update Google apps and apps from Google Play. This app gives you access to Google Settings and helps apps speed up offline searches. So this is basically the gateway between you're apps and google play store. Most off the apps we install uses this app to connect to the play store to check for their updates. If not found the apps (especially google apps) may result in an error or FC.
It doesn't take up that much space or resources. So you may as well keep it.
Hope that helped
He can't keep it. He's deleted it. Ha.
I've disables this app because even if it does not take a lot of space, it is running in background and consuming RAM, CPU and internet data.
Everything works fine without it.

I can still see updates available for apps in Google Play without googleplayservices though...........So I don't think you're correct about apps using it to check for updates, they all still work the same.
I've never had one force close since removing it and I can update all my Google apps perfectly fine.
That's why I'm asking, it seems like a pointless app.
It just runs in the background using up RAM and battery.
The processor overhead of looking for it and generating errors and going to the play store may use more battery. Not 100 percent sure though. I'll check. Seems similar to deleting cache /killing a thread takes more to rebuild than leave alone.

Cleared Play Store data accidentally?

I have a silly question, I accidentally cleared Play Store data and now I don't have any apps when I press My Apps. Is there any chance to bring it back and will now my apps get updates?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
You will still get updates.
To resolve this do the following:
Settings --> Choose your Google account just scroll down --> Press on your email with the green sync icon on the left of it --> press the 3 dots in the upper right and delete it. --> re-add it.
Or just google:"Delete Google account android".

deleting play store data doesnt rid it of your apps. as soon as you clear your play store data, then reopen the play store, all your installed and once installed apps will reappear. the only reason no play store apps appear would be if you got rid of your personal google account.

That is not true. When I cleared data and after that I opened Play Store there are no apps when I go to "My apps". Now I fixed that thanks to failly.

what happened to you is not the norm. ive cleared data hundreds of times, on many devices, over many years, and that has not once happened. what rom are you running by chance? do you have a good constant data signal?

Disable apps from updates

Just posting a solution I found to work for a common problem.
Some people prefer an older version of a certain app, therefore they disable auto updates, which leaves it in your play store always there to remind you to update.
The solution I found that worked for me is to get the app apk, save it into your internal storage, uninstall the app, then download zipsigner from play store, find the apk in your internal storage, resign it using zipsigner, then reinstall the resigned apk. This will detach the app from the play store. Play store will not detect that you have that app installed.
Of course you will need the pre update apk, so hopefully you will have it in an old backup somewhere if you need to do this.

I've been wondering how to do this with Google maps. Thank you. I'll report to how it works.
Works absolutely perfect. Thanks again!!
