My wife has a razr M running FXZ 182. I've de-bloated it as much as possible and it still runs like garbage. Her phone will randomly reboot throughout the day, sometimes it won't answer calls, when she charges it it gets very hot, the camera sometimes crashes too. Overall it's a pretty terrible phone. She really wants a Nexus 5 like I have but we can't afford it right now.
Are there any daily driver roms that just work, I don't care about fancy features or even latest android (although it would be nice). She just needs something that doesn't rape the battery, will snap a photo once and a while and take/make calls.

I've personally had the best luck with BlissStalk on KKBL (What you're on). I plan on flashing it to my SO's xt907 as well. I suggest Bliss with PA Gapps Mini Modular package (frees up RAM, great for our 1GB device). No major issues, baked in root and other good customization. I get about 12-14 hours on a typical use day.
Another option is the Google Play Edition FXZ. It is a fully debloated and deodexed official FXZ with some performance mods built in, pretty good performance and stability, but it is based off of the official firmware and will contain some of the same bugs the official firmware has.
You are on an unlocked bootloader, right?

I don't know but I've tried bliss stalk but even that had stability issues... I came back to jelly bean but it had data issues so I flashed the official by rsd ... I'm using xposed with it now, I must say it's the most stable rom for this phone. I get an entire day with decent usage with music and browsing facebook.
What I think is maybe you need to format the phone or re flash stock through rsd. Try going back to 4.1.2 then upgrade officially through the phone... It should be spot on. I still say stock 4.4 is your best bet. I haven't tried 5.0... I will once it's stable enough and the bugs are all sorted out. But it's my daily phone and its serving me very well.

5.0's biggest problem is that we have a device with only 1GB of RAM. If you keep everything minimalistic, it runs alright, but it quickly drags with multitasking. Other than memory management, it runs great. Autodims, Bluetooth works, WiFi works, signal issued are at a minimal.
Sent from my RAZR M on BlissPop Lollipop 5.0.2 from Tapatalk
True but if the dude is looking for something stable enough without issues for his wife I think stock 4.4 is still the best bet. I've got more than a 100 apps installed and it runs without any issues... No signal issues... 5.0 is still in beta which is why some things need to be polished.

Try it, and tell what you think abt it. Had to do double zip, because of a false virus alarm on upload. Archive password is: xda
This deodex is designed to be flashed via TWRP directly on clean VZ 4.4.2 (unlocked phone is needed, of course). No wipes required (cache partition will be cleaned up). Author's nick is serg_gangubas. I'll update later description and structure of this project, if there will be request.

Hi guys, first of all let me share al my specs in order to place my question properly:
PHONE MODEL: Galaxy S4 SGH-I337M (the original stock kernel was: Build Date: 30.05.2013 -> Region: TCE (Mexico) PDA: I337MUMUAMDL Changelist: 518267 Android: 4.2.2)
Actual Rom: CyanogenMod -version: 10.2 10.2-20130923-nightly -jftlecan
Compilation number: cm_jfltecan-userdebug 4.3 JLS36G eng.jenkins.20130923.022829 test-keys
Recovery Mode: CWM via Rom Manager Pro app
So saying that I will say this: I came from stock to CM wiping Factory Reset and data/cache only and I used Odin for rootint the device....no problems at all, runs like a charm...
MY ISSUE #1: A couple of auto-updates ago (via Rom Manager), I start to notice that the radio bars (telephony signal, mobile internet signal bars) were from 1 to 2 bars in places I always get full bars (I live on a 7th floor with excelent signal at Mexico City). I searched on the forums (XDA developers and here) and it seems that ROOTED DEVICES SHOW THE REAL SIGNAL PROVIDED BY THE CAREER---->can someone confirm this? Is my phone showing the real signal strenght?, eventhough, keep reading to see that low signal bars are only the beginning...
So as i said, I didnt worry pretty much, because if the bars are little low, but i have a good quality service, who cares? but the REAL PROBLEM appears when another update came and when Im trying to use my mobile internet (4g or 3G, doesnt matter) the signal cuts exactly at the moment of loading a page or any info....it as happened with almost all apps (specially Facebook, Waze and Google Maps)
It happens as follows:
1.- Open any app, like Dolphin browser or Firefox
2.- Page starts to load info (LTE showing download and upload state)
3.- LTE-3G or whatever, shuts down (I see only the telephony signal bars and there is no internet signal)
4.- Wait few seconds, LTE-3G whatever is back...have to try again and agin until LTE remains steady (sometimes it wont until I reboot)
ISUE #2- DURING CALLS:
- Sometimes people cant hear me, but I can hear them...restart the phone and the issue fixes it self...buts is very annoying to restart my phone every single time somebody calls me and they cant hear me
I dont know what to do guys? Shall I wait until final CM10.2 comes to light? Somebody has this bug also? Is this bug part of CM? or there is another app making this rare behaivour...(do you recommend me another ROM for this model of GS4??)
EDIT: I tried to flash the original modem.bin (via ODIN) which is used by my carreer (TELCEL, son of Slim AKA "The richest man on Babylon :silly: is the company´s name). So until now, I can tell that in my first attempts of opening pages or facebook, the randomly LTE turning off-on continues...I will keep testing with this "orginal" flashed modem....

It's defiinitely a modem issue. You can flash new modems and try. (backup efs before doing so, actually if you dont already have one - do it before now and save yourself some grief)
If that's not fixing the issues...
I'd backup what you need and start fresh. It would be the easiest way to resolve all your issues. Maybe even try a different kernel set for your region and phone.
Kies has a useful firmware recovery option that sets you back to stock.
The Kies will use your model number and serial to get you your stock firmware and reset you back. Id wipe all data under settings then do it. After its done, do another factory reset in recovery.

Thanks for that advice, i guess Im going to do all that if a new kernel doesnt fix the issue (I havent found any kernel for my region which supports Android 4.3, only 4.2.2, and someone told me is not correct to install such a kernel). Good day to you!

So after done all the "back to stock" steps, I still get this questions:
1.- Would I still be ROOT but with stock firmware (Touchwiz) and cool features originally made for Samsung GS4? (such as air gestures, etc etc)
2.- If im "unrooted" by the steps described in your link, can I upgrade to 4.3???
Thanks you are so kind!
Check out GoldenEye ROM or MDOB ROM in the development forum. They are extremely stable, super fast, tw and excellent battery life. CM is awesome, but is seriously way to flawed for our S4's right now to use for day to day life.

Thanks. I successfully installed stock Rom (Touch Wiz) and the signal has been impecable (full vars and excellent internet speed). I have to say that stock Rom is faster than CM in its current state I'm having a better experience right now ( and didn't had the time to explore all the Samsung apps in their depth) thanks again for your kind help!!!

Well I just went back to original stock firm ware via Kies, and now the radio signal issues are gone!! CM 10.2 didn't work well for me as the stock rom is now working in my phone. Something tells me that some times it's better to just rooting (for enjoying cool apps as Greenify) and not installing custom Roms (because all this kernel carnival is just to much, and appart of all we have to install radio firmware? Just no!)

Is the ATT OTA any good or provide significant improvements? My phone is currently running pretty flawlessly with Grevious ROM and I'm kind scared to brick it following the Flash to stock thread instructions lol. I've read the instructions several times and I'm confident in following them, but I really don't want to somehow brick it or get into bootloops and be out a phone for any period of time.

Update summary
On December 3, 2013, AT&T and Samsung released a software update for the LG G2 (D800). This software package updates the baseband version to M8974A-AAAANAZM-1.0.190034.
This software update includes
The size of the update file is 57 MB and is available for download via Wi-Fi.
ISIS Ready
EAS Fix (Enable Data Encryption Policy in the device via over the air)
Enhanced Google Map

I also wouldn't bother with it. Besides the LG flash tool won't work since you are using a Rom with a different base. You would need to flash the stock rooted Rom or clean rom.

You're not missing anything, if anything you're saving yourself aggravation. There's not a single improvement that I can see with the phone yet it's introduced a nice battery drain by the name of "Android System" once you update to the new firmware. Happened to my original G2, and last night on my 2nd G2 when it auto updated as I was sleeping. You'll notice "Android System" now taking up about 50% of your battery usage. I don't even know how it automatically updated last night as I was sleeping, must have been like that Windows auto update thing where it tells you it's gonna do it in 15 minutes unless you intervene or something. I'm really debating if I should try to flash it back to stock because it's that bad, this coming from a person running it stock this entire time without even rooting.
I am proud to present my second custom rom!
This is the first custom stock based ROM for the SM-T807P (Sprint). I don't plan on updating it that much as I don't own the device . I created this with archikitchen and a little help and testers which are down below. Downloading the firmware took me 14 hours to mirror and download+ the custom rom took an extra 4 hours also. That's 18 hours total! Anyway hope you all enjoy this rom as it should be a tad better than stock in my opinion.
Features
-Rooted
-Knox Removed

I wouldn't get overexcited about lollipop. Many people who have had it have downgraded, my self included due to issues on my HTC m8..One main one being rapid battery drain, others are incompatibilities with apps. Xposed was incompatible, but that seems to be fixed, however there are still reports of problems.

Thanks for the tip do u mind if i pm you if i get stuck its been since the note 1 since i made a rom lol
Thanks for the ROM, would you make the lollipop, thanks
Hello. Thanks for all your hard work. Are you going to do the update for lollipop?
So I had my unrooted Moto X Pure for quite sometime now and I was looking to root it. I was wondering are there any feature filled ROMS. I can't seem to find any screenshots on the ROM releases and would love to root my phone as it seems to have lots of delay even though it is not full. Can anyone lead me to some guides and tutorials to some good ROMS for the Moto X Pure Edition?
Dirty Unicorns and Pure Nexus are pretty good. Plenty of options to go with - both come with the CM13 Theme engine and Pure nexus also comes with the layers version too. I've gone back to stock rooted with Xposed installed as I like the Moto Assist thingy and the only things I need are the Advanced reboot menu and the option to change the icons in Google Now which is my favourite launcher.

I was looking at Dirty Unicorns and it seems pretty nice. I was wondering is there a guide to root and backup my Moto X Pure? I wanted to root, but I don't want to lose all the data and other system information/settings like it used to happen on my HTC One M8. Could you recommend any guides? Thank you!
Rooting requires you to unlock your bootloader, which will wipe all system data with no way around it. It should leave user storage (photos, downloaded files, etc) untouched, but it will delete all installed apps and restore the phone to its factory state.
The only partial workaround for an unrooted phone is to backup your apps to Helium and restore them after you've unlocked the bootloader—once you're rooted, this will be possible with Titanium Backup to backup apps to your internal/external storage as opposed to a cloud.
Immediately after you've unlocked the bootloader, be sure to flash the latest build of TWRP and make a backup of your entire device so that you can restore to something functional if you mess up with rooting. I'm sorry I wasn't able to help with keeping all your system data intact, but to my knowledge, it's just not possible.
I'm positive there's a complete guide to rooting and unlocking the bootloader of this device (as well as a guide to using TWRP for backups and installing ROMs and whatnot) on these forums, and they should be very easy to find with a little browsing. Best of luck to you.

Thanks for all the info! For some reason, after following all the steps, Helium does not work for me. I've downloaded the drivers and have enabled PTP mode and whatnot, and for some reason it still doesn't work :/
Also it seems my computer isn't recognizing the device, like I can't go to "My Computer" and find the device there, it used to work.

Be sure you've enable developer options from within about phone. Tap build number repeatedly till says develop options unlocked or whatever. Then in developer options enable USB debugging
Also, in my experience, Dirty Unicorns was very laggy and I greatly prefer TruPureXMM (or OrionOS if you don't wanna get Xposed to tweak your phone—TruPure has very little customization if you don't get GravityBox. Either way, AOSP ROMs are much smoother).

I've done that as well, but it still does not work at all. Even my computer doesn't recognize the device when I plug it in. It doesn't do the AutoPlay feature asking if I want to explore the contents and stuff.

Just wondering, are AOSP ROMS supposed to feel like how I am using my Moto X Pure currently? When I my HTC One M8 I love the ROMs since they were chock full of Xposed Mods as well as just mods from the maker itself(Viper/Venom ROM)

It depends. Some AOSP ROMs (like TruPure) are almost identical to the original firmware with very little customization available requiring you to install Xposed. Other AOSP ROMs (like Orion) have the capability of customization as well as extra features built-in while still providing the stability and smoothness of the original firmware. I'd advise you to browse around and see which AOSP ROM appeals to you the most (definitely take a look at the two I've mentioned, though, as they're currently the best ROMs available for this phone in my opinion).
My personal preference is staying away from CM-based ROMs due to performance, but it's entirely up to you. Dirty Unicorns definitely has a lot of very useful features and tons of customization without needing Xposed at all, I just personally couldn't get past the lag. I don't really need anything from Dirty Unicorns that I can't get with GravityBox on TruPure, but your needs may vary.

Temasek's has the notification LED working (and customizable per app). That alone makes it worth the price of admission, the lack of a flashing LED for notifications was driving me nuts. I'm typically not a huge fan of CM since I usually run into bugs, but I do love the theme engine. I just flashed it yesterday & so far so good - everything works & I haven't noticed any lag either.
I have been using Resurrection remix and it is very stable with no lag, highly customizable, and I have been getting really good battery life. I suggest trying that one. I am really liking it.

I've never used CM actually always used AOSP or other customizable ROMs actually. So far the most popular I know for the Moto X Pure is DirtyUnicorns and PureNexus(or whatever is called) are there any you have in mind that would be worth looking into?

Well put
Update: I've tried TruPureXMM, OrionOS, and most recently, Pure Nexus; Pure Nexus is definitely my favorite out of all I've tried. Just thought I'd share that with you.
The only problem I'm experiencing is relatively lesser cell reception than I was getting on other ROMs, which is probably only noticeable since I'm in a relatively remote area. I'm pretty sure I saw a flashable improved modem on this site somewhere, though. I'll let you know if I find it and if it helps.

Sadly I don't think my memory was serving me correctly. I looked around for a long while and couldn't find anything like I was talking about, which sucks because I'm losing battery rapidly as well. I was fully charged at 7 this morning and I've been at school/work all day using my phone less since it seemed the battery was going faster. It's only 6:34 PM and I'm currently at 5%.

I'm running DU now, which is pretty friggin awesome BTW, I'm actually a little surprised that just flashing PureNexus hosed your modem. Have you tried restoring a backup to get the stock one back again?

I received this phone with DU already installed (bought it in mint condition pre-rooted off of Swappa at $325 for the 32gb model—still can't believe I got such a good deal), so sadly, I don't have a backup of stock to restore to. I do, however, have a backup of TruPure which didn't give me reception issues. Although, I'd greatly prefer staying on Pure Nexus solely for the fact that it doesn't require Xposed for customization.

I have the habit of always asking on a new device no matter how much I think I know!
I have an xt1635-02 (I am US ATT Prepaid)(nano SIM) supposedly here tomorrow so I've been reading tons here.
However, it seems that a lot of the threads are aimed at rooting stock, which I never do.
As a rule, it's trivial:
[!] In this case it seems best to OTA update stock to 7.1.1 if it isn't already. I believe bootloader must be 7.x.x for doing custom Oreo ROMs . Since mine was 6.0 it took about 8 updates OTA and maybe 2 hours(wifi) .
[!]I go to moto site and do the unlock bootloader dance (already carrier unlocked supposedly).
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-a
[!]Then flash twrp-3.2.1-0-addison.img (Alberto97) using fastboot on my PC. (Ubuntu 17.10 dev 18.04 with adb and fastboot)(dual boot win7)
I do this twice in a row as I have experienced it not working the first time (dead android LOL).(OCD much??? )
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...recovery-unofficial-twrp-moto-z-play-t3495629
- - -
[!] -->then flash Alberto's verity patch mentioned at the top of his TWRP thread
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mo...recovery-unofficial-twrp-moto-z-play-t3495629
This modifies stock. Else your backups of stock won't boot. Learned this the hard way!
- - -
[!]Then use TWRP to backup (default settings) stock a couple of times and put copies of both on PC (via USB on stock).(or if for some reason my USB-C doesn't work, via wifi to my router using filezilla FTP and phone app: "wifi file transfer" by "DNL Media UG"(needs permission storage=on..) - I had to redo this twice - redo this twice - kept dropping back to stock recovery.
[!]Then flash the boot logo using fastboot on PC - I usually use TWRP for this but these that I found here are not set up to be TWRP flash compat so will just remove bin from zip and flash using PC. I think I have about 4 possibilities that I found on these threads. Nice! Easy.
[!]Then boot to TWRP and flash Alberto97's AOSP 8.1 arm64 ROM. Why that ROM you may ask. Been using mainly that Alberto97 ROM on my Moto G3 (32bit version of course), and love it. There's plenty of time to try all the others!!!
I usually consider 2 root options; SuperSU 2.82-SR5, or majisk 1520. (for future readers, these are the latest at this time.)(besides I'm very used to them.)
With SuperSU I have had no probs wiping all 4(Dalvik/ART, system, data, cache), flash ROM, flash 8.1 gapps, flash SUperSU, and boot to install.
With majisk I have sometimes had troubles during install if I flash majisk in the first batch so I tend to wipe all 4, flash ROM and gapps, and boot to install. Then when I finally hit desktop, boot back to TWRP and flash 1520 and reboot.
I need root to use TBPro - no restoring on first time with this 64bit ROM- got to do it the hard way!
SO I believe that's it, but if anyone sees a flaw or problem in there, I would appreciate your help.
Thanks!!!
yep look right, i would have added backup EFS and Modem partitions, if you want to be completely safe.
For now, open gapps 8.1 are only unofficial, i would feel a bit unsecure to use that, but it's only me.

Merci! Many thanks for looking in!!!
Yes, forgot to add that - did much xda search on the efs thing and best I found seemed to be a twrp-3.1.1-0-EFS-addison.img which I may very well flash first and do that since no other TWRP that I looked at offers backup efs. Official and squid2 derived (G3) don't. I assume Alberto's doesn't. Seems like I did it very manually on the G3. If you have it it's a pretty good guarantee that you'll never need it! (Murphy axiom)
As to unofficial gapps, I've been testing about 5 different 8.1 ROMs on the Moto G3 over the past couple months and if the gapps aren't built in to the ROM(some pixelexperience roms), all you can get is an unofficial gapps, or do a minor simple hack to an 8.0 so it will accept it. Usually devs will include it. Bless Alberto97 for not including it so I can select my own!!! But I've had no prob with gapps. Open gapps project has 8.0, but of course they won't work on a true 8.1 unless minor hack. I was planning on using open_gapps-arm64-8.1-aroma-20180109-UNOFFICIAL.zip (from https://cloud.kenzoroms.club/?dir=opengapps) unless you have a better idea. I wanted to grab camera from aroma(somebody's idea), but I also have about 5 other cameras and gcams waiting on the Sdcard that I want to test, simply because there seemed to be disagreement on what works on Alberto's new 8.1 build, so wanted to be able to report.
Thanks again!

Thanks for great link! yeah I think I used adb as well as an app last time. I'll add recovery this time so that's 3 backups on internal storage (and copied to PC) should be enough! (yes dear readers I am serious about this - 3 times! They are so tiny! And that pretty much guarantees I'll never need it, but if I do, it's childs play to get it back.)
Thanks!!!
If you're wondering about the delay, they sent me a -01 (Droid)(Murphy's law), so they paid for a UPS next day air label back to them(mailed at 4PM) - don't know if I'll get this going before Sat! Oh well!!! Never take these things too seriously!!! Gotta be costing them a chunk! I did briefly turn it on and stuck the SIM in it and it did show LTE on my ATT, but there's a few bands missing that are on the -02, so will wait. Pretty display, though!!! Really looking forward to it!!!

yes. stock 8.x is a no-no. This one that is coming is 6.0.1 So I will let it ota update to 7.1.1 after giving it a thorough check-out, then try unlocking it, etc. Sound right? I have no interest in any of the hardware-type addons, just the plain phone 3/32 octacore etc. Why this one? - I love the reception (radio) strength of Motos, plus a ton of other things. I stick with them. Plus it's all Albeto97's fault for deving on AOSP 8.1
Lol Alberto97's roms are buttery smooth!

I think they are. He recently came out with an 8.1 AOSP version for the Moto G3 and I love it. I test others, but that's my daily driver. Sure not perfect, but quite good enough for me!!! So I figure when I get it (Tues?) that's what I'll put on it. There's always plenty of time to test others!
Okay, since I am waiting for phone (Tues) , obviously I am worried about "what-if"s and so researching on what to do, "if".
I succeeded in finding a nice zip for 7.1.1 with the Nov security patch
https://firmware.center/firmware/Motorola/Moto Z Play/Stock/
(I am US)(there are many others at that nice site!!!)
That took a lot of time.
Then I needed to be sure that I could get RSD lite to run, and tried and tried to no avail to get it to recognize my phone (even on my laptop) (I was testing with an old Moto G3 stock zip and my G3 phone) before some post gave me a version number much higher than at the RSD site. google gave me:
http://rsdlite.en.lo4d.com/
version 6.2.4, which worked perfectly.
I really need to write a short guide on this stuff - feels like I'm re-inventing the wheel, even though many folks have written much before I came along!
The reason for the above two is that for a while the last few days I kept running into folks who had taken 7 OTA and wound up with a bricked phone. So, yes, I just did a search for "brick" on xda in moto z play and will start reading them! LOL
Quick EDIT: I think I am wrong in that brick assumption - the first 3 I looked at involved encryption and 2 downgrades to MM (which is a no-no). I will read further.
edit2 - nevermind - most are downgrading to MM. Wish folks would just ask before doing that. That is a no-no of most (all?) phones. -
