I have a none rooted Nexus 10. Just recently updated it to 5.0.1 from 4.4.4. Ever since the update the battery barely chargers. For example, last night the battery was completely dead, so I threw it on the charger. After about 6 hours of charging, it went from 0% to 29%. I know that the charger itself is fine, I used to use it as my charger for my Nexus 5 and it never slow charged it like this. Could this be an issue from the update? I've attached a pic of the battery status.
Just an update, since I first posted, the tablet has been plugged in charging. Reached a high of 33% and is now DOWN to 26%. What could possibly be going on ?
I got the same problem... Slow change.. Any idea?
Hi,
I had a similar issue recently. All I did was use another cable with the stock wall charger. I was using stock cable + stock charger and had these problems, then I picked up my Kindle cable and put on the charger and it was fine again.
Battery had an estimative of 7-9 hours to charge got down to 4-5h.
All the best,

How long is it taking you guys to charge your N7? At first I had the sleep of death and once it finally turned on after a slight charge, it stays at charging 0% for quite some time now. But before that, it always seemed to slow charge.

No idea. I plug it in when I go to bed and it's good to go the next day...lasts me the whole day. I also don't know how many licks it takes to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop.
At I/O they said the tablet takes about 3 hours to charge from 0-100% but it may be faster. Whenever I get the 15% alert I throw it on the charger for about an hour and it's past 50%
charge times will vary depending on the charger as well, best charge time will occur from the wall charger that came with it, USB trickle charge will take a month of sundays
that is of course unless you have a magical USB controller that outputs 2A from each port (highly unlikely)
I wonder if its something wrong with my battery. Been on charger for more than three hours and nowhere near 100%. It was at maybe 48%. Drainage seems reasonable..its just the charge seems rather long to reach full charge. This is all from using the stock charger too...

Typically 3 to 4 hours for me using OEM charger
Via my HTC Rezound
Between 2-3 hours on charger, around 7-9 hours on usb.
My battery app says 3 hours and 40 minutes on average. That includes charge times when I am using it at the same time so I guess about 3 hours.

I don't know what happened, but with me, when I first got it it was 3 hours on the dot to a full charge. Then one day it said it needed to be plugged in to charge getting below 14%. Then I plugged it in and got the sleep of death, and plugged it in the wall and the battery icon came up, then I turned it on. Now it's been charging for about 6 hours and its only 85% :crying:
Mines generally around 40% at the end of the day, it takes less than 2 hours to get to fully charged.
Mine takes about 3.5 hours but I noticed my 10 foot micro USB cable doesn't charge fast at all. Takes about 12 hours on my 10 foot cable
Yeah I'm with the rest, mine's in the 2.5 - 3.5 range. But as stated, which charger you use makes a huge difference. Charging off the computer (USB to PC) is waaaay slow. Using the OEM wall-charger is what should give you 2.5 - 3.5.
3-4 hours for me depending on what percent I wait till, usually 5-15% battery, haven't tried with anything other than the OEM charger though.
From about 10% ie when the warning to charge came up, to 100%, took mine about 2-3 hours only last night using the supplied charger. Much longer on USB, haven't timed that.
Should I get mine exchanged ? I'm still within the 14 day policy of Mac mall. Its been an hour and its only 14%. Usually it takes 3-4+ to charge fully.

Make sure you're using the supplied charger. I believe the ones for smartphones charge at a different rate? I made the same mistake when I first got my Nexus 7 by charging it with my SGSII charger. It was VERY slow. Then I switched back to the supplied charger and everything was normal.
Usually takes me just 2 hours, and it is full. I usually start charging at around 15%. Using OEM Charger too. :good:
I used my Gnote charger but left it overnight (about 5hrs). I'd say that normally it takes around 3 hours. The battery life is awesome I have to say.

I found this while searching for an answer, my Nexus has been taking 12-15 hours to charge fully, using the factory charger. I also tried my powered USB hub (using a charging port, rated at 1.5 amp), and my Galaxy Nexus charger, same thing. Called Google today and they said it's the device, and I need to return it. Luckily I bought it locally, so I can just exchange it at the store.
Hi I've noticed that my Nexus 7 is taking longer to charge now. 3 hours and only done 38% I'm pretty sure it was quicker than this when I first got it. This is from completely dead by the way.

My nexus also takes forever to charge, seems strange...
if it's connected to usb it's normal, if it's to the wall charger, it's not normal.

That's strange. It usually takes 3 hours to be charged from lower than 20% for my Nexus 7 with AC. Haven't tried USB though.
I think a thorough wipe might help.
3 hours on the wall charger that came with mine will easily do it from under 30 to 100%. The other phone chargers we have kicking around all have much lower output. Never occurred to me they were that different (duhh) until I realized that it took significantly longer to charge on my wife's Blackberry charger, my old Palm charger, my LG phone charger. I had always used them interchangeably with the phones. The N7 charger has a 2A output and the others are 1A or less. The newest Blackberry charger is only 500 mA I think. After an hour or two the charge level has barely changed on the N7 with that one. Less convenient to always have to use the right one, but makes a big difference.
USB takes waaaay longer.
My Nexus 7 is no longer charging while turned on. If I power it off it'll charge with the battery symbol. I can't even get my PC to recognize it while plugged in to USB. I'm using the stock charger and cable. Any thoughts?
I'm currently running Paranoid Android 2.54, however when this started I was on 2.50. I thought flashing a newer version might help.
Not charging
Plus 1 on this issue,
Running stock ROM and it updated yesterday to version JOP40C now it's only charging when turned off.
+1, same here, but now it won't charge as the battery got completly drained.
Still does not charge. This is a launch N7, curious if Google will replace it.

I just received a replacement seven this week for the same issue, mine stopped charging. I called google play customer service, and they didn't give me a hastle at all.
Were you rooted/running a custom ROM? I am, and with my N7 not getting recognized I feel like flashing back to stock might be problematic.

yea, rooted, custom ROM and kernel. doesn't matter though, it just started one day randomly. I finally did get it to charge BTW, by giving it a few firm smacks on the back. they didn't even ask if it was with root or if it was a custom ROM. if its hardware related, it won't make a difference. i sent it back with twrp recovery, rasbean jelly rom, and trinity kernel. i did wipe the data and the storage before i sent it in.
Yeah my Nexus' charging is messed up since 4.2. Battery seems to run down extremely quickly (around 30% in two hours with Spotify on and general browsing.) Plugging it into the wall with the official charger sometimes charges it EXTREMELY slowly, and sometimes just says its charges and still the battery is running down.
It happened to charge last night, and over the course of around 10 hours, I think I had 60% battery. Trying to charge now, and nothing, just losing battery. No idea what the issue could be. Tablet completely stock.

+1 on this issue. N7 isn't charging when turned on, no charging issues if turned off. It isn't recognized when connected to a PC. Whenever I try switching users, the darn thing restarts itself. It does the same thing when I try USB debugging. I am running 4.2.1.
Please help!
Investigated problem
After upgrading to 4.2.1 my N7 charged very slowly. Finally today I decided to investigate it, albeit inaccurately.
Plugging a 2A charger into my 120V power monitor, I noticed the following:
When the N7 was on, the power draw continually alternated between 0 watts and 2 watts.
When the N7 had been shut down from the bootloader (not from the OS) and the cable plugged in/out, the power draw was a constant 2 watts.
The max charging rate of the N7 is around 10 watts.
So it looks like the N7 is will charge either very slowly, or kind of slowly. What I find strange is that this issue only occurs on some devices. Perhaps later devices use a different charging controller?
Either way, would really like a fix for this.

From the way you described your test setup, you seem to be measuring the power consumed by the charger itself on a 120 VAC source. The wattage there should be low, albeit still higher than what you're seeing. Along that line, if you ever see it go up anywhere near 10 watts, then something has gone horribly wrong.
Also, the slow charging seems to be peculiar to 4.2 and above, indicating that it is not actually a hardware issue.
same!
Been having the same problem for a few days now, I was on stock 4.2 and updated today to a custom ROM based off of 4.2.1 and there is still no difference. Anyone found a solution yet?? Its quite concerning especially since I got mine from GameStop in the US then moved to the UK shortly after!
Just wanted to add, before this started I was having the same problem that is talked about here http://forums.androidcentral.com/google-nexus-7-tablet-forum/228706-nexus-7-problem-wont-charge-when-does-screen-goes-dead-pixels-fly-across-screen.html
I figured it was caused by letting the battery drain completely so I opened it up pulled the battery plug out, plugged it back in and charged it till it was full and it continued to work. haven't let it die since.
Same problem here, stock Nexus 7 running 4.2.1, roughly 2 months old.
It charges when the device is turned off, but will not charge when powered on -- started happening about 2 weeks ago (charged fine previously). This is using the stock brick and cable that came with the tablet.
I have to imagine that this is a software issue and that the next one will have a similar problem -- has anyone else swapped one out and had the problem disappear with the new one?

So far been lucky with my nexus but one thing that disappoints me is the slow charging .
On a fully drained bat it takes 5 hours to charge with stock charger.
Is this normal for the nexus ? When I opened it out the box I let the bat fully drain before charging, and its taken this long to charge every time.

Is not recommended to drain your battery completely to zero. Google also recommends to charge your battery fully when you first boot up your device. Many don't read the instructions that came with their box. Also if you do a bit of research you would have notice that your concerns have been asked and answered on other threads on here. And my last advice, plug you nexus 10 before bedtime that way is nice and full when you wake up. Problem solved.

I had mine off and charged overnight, woke up to 40% battery life.

5 to 6 hours is normal for a full charge from the A/C charger on a Nexus 10.

Mine has got the same problem... I plug it in and it doesn't even load it's just stuck at 0%... + light bleed + slow gaming - Google/Samsung did not do a good job... Its seems like its just a prototype, a beta version....
So before I go to bed I always turn off my phone and plug it in the wall charger that came in the box. This morning I woke up, turned my phone on and it only charged to 47!! Has this ever happened to you?
Btw I'm on the march 3 build of paranoid android, faux 7r2 mainline kernel, latest PA gapps and the new bootloader and radio.

I don't turn my phone off but I did have one night where I plugged it in and the charger did not seem to work at all (woke up w/ ~40% as well).
Stock, unrooted here.
Had this happen to me once or twice and mine kept showing its charging after I unplug it. I found it only does this with the stock wall charger so I bought a new 2.1 amp wall charger and now it charges without any problems. I think the stock wall unit has a high rate of defection.
