Hello,
After trying several ROMs, I'm now a happy OmniROM user. One of the features I really appreciate are the nigthly builds. The system automatically checks for them and it displays a notification icon each time a new build is available. But, hey, I'm not going to tell you what you already know
I noticed that for some reason the update notification function stops working and I can now associate this to the presence of the Viber application on my device. And now I decided to share my findings and to eventually understand the background of this problem.
Here is the typical scenario I found myself in several times this last year:
- some friend of mine asks me to contact him on Viber; this application comes-in handy when talking with people abroad
- I install Viber, only to notice the next day that I no longer have the new updates notification
- I eventually uninstall Viber, as it's really discharging my battery trying to reconnect my phone (the GSM signal quality is very poor at my work, even if it's in the center of a major french town)
- after manually downloading & installing the current nightly build, the update notification icon comes back next day.
In addition, I had the idea to manually check for system updates. When the Viber application is present on the system, this function won't find any new updates!
Am I the only one facing this problem?
Cheers,

Can anyone help here? I'm running a T-Mobile SGT7, and it runs great, with the Sapir version of CM10 from the development section.
The dreaded Phantom Voicemail has returned. The options to turn off Voicemail Notifications under PHONE do not exist in this version, and I can't seem to get any help getting rid of it. It is annoying as hell, because every time my phone comes out of airplane mode, I have to hear the notification sound go off (even though the voicemail notification sound is set to SILENT), and the icon just won't go away.
Steps I've taken.
1. Notified erezak, the guy making Sapir, multiple times.
2. Searched for any known fixes. Found none for CM10 at least, other than for Sprint devices. They seem device specific.
3. Looked for the setting under phone, which doesn't exist in CM10 for some reason, though it was there for CM9...
4. Froze the Mobile Data (voicemail, in Titanium Backup) app in Settings/Apps. Comes back the next time airplane mode is turned off.
5. Uninstalled the Mobile Data app (in Titanium Backup), and the Phone keeps crashing until I reboot. When I reboot, the notification is gone, but I also don't get any bars for phone. I need it for AGPS.
Keep in mind, I do NOT use the actual phone option here, as the device is installed in the dashboard of my car, but place calls with it using Tablet Talk to my phone.
Also, the SGSIII had this going on, and they added the fix for it some time ago. If you don't know what Phantom Voicemails are, it is getting a voicemail notification that cannot be cleared, at all. The phone on my tablet has never been used.
Suggestions?
Over a thousand views, several ROM updates, and the option to disable voicemail notifications still isn't here.
The fix for CM10 for other devices is there, can't we just pull that?
Perhaps this could help get this fixed for us?

I'm having issues with the build system again.
However, the next build will contain the option to disable the notification.
My apologies for the time it took.
Missing voicemail icon
I am new to CM10 rom and I would just like to be able to put a voicemail icon on my home screen, latest version I flashed tonight did not have that anywhere that I could find....a little help please.
Thanks

I've hopefully narrowed down my problem thanks to a helpful redditor, but am having trouble figuring out exactly what's going on. Basically what happens is I lose communication with Google (no Gmail, appointment reminders, app installs from PC, etc.), and usually have to reboot my phone to get it working again, although very occasionally opening a Google app or toggling airplane will re-connect me. I have a HTC Droid DNA (S-OFF) on ViperDNA 1.2.0 with the included 2.04 OTA kernel, however this issue has persisted across many ROMs and kernels. I've been running "adb shell dumpsys activity service all >services_dump.txt" to see what Google Sync Framework has been doing. Here's where I am now:
I had set a test appointment reminder in Gcal on my PC to go off at 10:20am, which it successfully received at that time. However, I noticed these lines in the log immediately after receiving that notification:
03-13 10:20:03.433 891 891 D GTalkService: [RawStanzaProvidersMgr] searchProvidersFromIntent
03-13 10:20:03.436 891 891 D GTalkService: [RawStanzaProvidersMgr] no intent receivers found
After seeing that, I also noticed I had lost my connection to Google (wasn't getting Gmail). I let my phone sit for an hour, then tried installing Titanium at 11:24 via Play store on PC, and check logs again. Since 10:20 my phone had missed 4 heartbeats, and the only two new lines were a repeat from above right at 11:24. I gave my phone another hour to sit idle, then opened the Play store on it at 12:33, at which point Titanium started installing and I received my missed notifications. I'm not sure what the few lines at 12:15 are from, but there are many more missed heartbeats. I can't really decipher what happened after 12:33, but it seems to still be reporting connection issues and missing more heartbeats.
Up until 10:20, you can see it sent heartbeats as expected, and I was receiving (non-appointment) notifications fine. I've noticed this on multiple versions of Viper and Hatka, and with a few different kernels, although so far my logs have only been collected while running a clean install of Viper 1.2.0. I did not notice this on "pure" stock as I did not have any appointment reminders set during that time, so I am unsure of whether or not this was a problem then. When I first noticed this, the only modification I had done was use jcase's method with HTCdev to unlock the bootloader, but my phone was otherwise still stock.
Proper functionality *seems* to have been restored! After numerous clean installs of the ViperDNA 1.2.0 ROM, it seems that leaving HTC's Browser and Mail apps (maybe one or two others, I forget) allows a proper connection to Google. I'm assuming that means HTC's apps are too integrated to remove some portions of them. What's really puzzling though, is why I had this issue when I was still stock. The only thing I can think of is that Verizon's OTA kernel update addressed something in the mix.
Any insight still appreciated while I confirm this fix.
So I am seeing this issue increasing on daily basis. My phone is usually in my pocked (not in doze) or some times lying around on the desk (dozed/not dozed, but still notification should deliver late). But I have noticed that in both situations, I don't receive any notification until I actually turn on the screen. As soon as I turn the screen on, notifications start to come in all together.. (around 4-5 notification comes together). It seems that they were pending to be delivered but were never delivered to the device until I woke it up and data connection restored.
I understand that in doze mode, notifications are delayed but are delivered, but in my situation they are not even delivered until I turn on the screen and wait a couple to 5 seconds.
A few P.S.
- I am on Stock Android without anykind of root (systemless or regular).
- I don't have any kind of advanced battery saving mode on or app installed (greenify or clean master etc).
- I don't have battery optimization for whatsapp still no notification comes in :crying:
- I see it on both Wifi and LTE..
- Cellular notifications like sms, mms or calls are not affected with this issue, they come on time.
Bumping up this thread!
Anybody else experiencing this issue or do you have any suggestions to resolve this issue?
This is a known issue and does not need to be bumped as not only are their multiple threads about this issue but google is already actively working on a fix.... https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=197805

The thread doesn't just cover gmail. If you look past the title, they are working on fixing issues relating to push notifications in general. Gmail was just the first app reported as having issues. Push notifications currently aren't functioning correctly on the 6P. Google is working to fix the issue. If you actually google notifications not showing up on 6P, quite a few news articles and Android forums will give you the same answer I was trying to give you.
I only experience this when I turn my phone on first thing in the morning, otherwise no.
I have notification issues on almost every Android phone, when on WiFi. It seems to be a known issue but been around/unresolved forever.
I use an app called DNSet, it runs automatically at startup and fixes this issue.

Thanks for the suggestion, i'll try it myself.. and report back.
Right now I am using Push Notification Fixer and results are really mixed. It works sometimes and others are as bad as no notification for minutes or hours until screen is turned on.
Please update following defect at google bug tracker stating you are also experiencing this issue.
https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=198686
Well, also if I have another phone (an Xperia) with Nougat 7.1.1 I have the same issue, which I also faced on older version of Android (eg on a Wiko Rainbow Jam with Lollipop)
I'm doing some tests in the generic section of the forum:

I know you said it's happening on both LTE and Wi-Fi, but many people look past their carrier / geographic location as the culprit. Please update your XDA profile with that information. Everyone should have this most basic information in their profile. Thanks.
First time poster here, I recently bought a Galaxy S8 after I became tired of my iPhone and boy, do I love this phone. I have never had so much fun with a mobile device.
My phone is only a week old and was working perfectly until a couple of days ago - one evening, I was messaging a friend on Discord when suddenly the notifications started getting cut short and not showing up in the AOD/notification centre. My notification sound would only play for like a split second, the Discord logo would appear in the status bar for a split second, and then the sound would suddenly stop and the notification was not able to be found in my notification centre. Discord had not received an update, and I had not (knowingly) changed any settings, so I had no idea what had caused it.
Now, I get this with Google Allo as well. And Telegram. And my Twitter DM notifications have straight up stopped working, they don't even make a sound or appear for a split second. I have no idea what has caused this, I've tried reinstalling all of these apps, force stopping them, ensuring that they are not put to sleep in the device manager, etc...but nothing seems to be working. It seems to be getting worse and worse, as initially I only encountered this issue with Discord, but now it's with all of these apps - Snapchat, WhatsApp and Messages are now the only apps on which I receive notifications reliably (for now).
I posted a thread on the /r/galaxys8 subreddit discussing this and found that other users shared the same issue, and even found another thread posted by somebody having the same issues with Google Allo, but nobody has a solution. Is there anything that you guys can recommend? I'm willing to try anything, I'm just extremely hesitant to factory reset my phone as I've finally got it set up how I want it and I really don't want to have to start over.
Thanks!
Hi there.
My S8 today get update to Oreo and after I install that update I notice that there is something wrong with notification from some apps, Twitter to be specific. First, when I get notifications about new reply or like there was no sound, so I went to settings and there in app settings I manage to change that, but now every time when I send new tweet I get notifications about that (never happened before on oldest android versions), and when someone reply to me, the sound of notification are doubled. It's very annoying.
When I search on Google about that issue there is many topics about that, but any solution.
PS
Yes, i did factory reset after update - - that issue was before and is still after FR.
Same problem here. I have turned off all battery optimization but nothing helps. Started the moment Oreo was installed. I have received one Oreo update but it made no difference
The same thing happens to me. It randomly skips push notifications from the people I follow. Very unpleasant with my S8 in that aspect. The system sleeps to the SI or SI application even though you include it in the app without supervision. I've tried everything and nothing works...
