[Q] Lollipop update | Issues with nexus 4 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After updating to Lollipop 5.0 and later on 5.0.1, below are the issues that I am frequently facing:
Reboot problem
I have observed my Nexus 4 to reboot itself while using Camera app for taking pictures, Skype app -Hangouts app for Audio/Video calling, etc. No particular steps. (I suspect this has something to do with Camera)
Has anybody face similar issues?

mine randomly does the same ! not often, but rarely ! stock lollipop, not even rooted !

Did you Factory Wipe before flashing? I have not had a single reboot on 5.0.0 or 5.0.1. Factory wiping might fix your issue, as old data in the cache from the legacy OS can cause issues. You might want to grab a logcat and folks can help you sort out the problem. Hard to guess.

The OTA had issues download a fresh image from Google developers.. And so a clean flash

I had not done a factory wipe.
Will it be okay if I take full backup - then do a factory wipe - then restore the backup... ?

Yes

Are you using a custom ROM? If so, do a full factory reset and wipe the caches. Then install the latest version of the ROM (make sure it is not a known bug of the ROM too). Don't restore your apps via an app backup thing. If you must, do them one at a time so you can identify if one of the apps is causing the problem.
If you arent on a custom ROM, consider uninstalling all apps that are risky, then reinstall one at a time.
Next wipe the data of any system apps that could cause this problem.
If this doesn't work, do a factory reset. You may need to return to stock using adb to wipe the dalvik and cache (I don't know if factory reset doesn't this anyway).
I hope this helps
Thanks, I will try the latter, as I'm not rooted. Will keep you posted.

I had the same issue. The only way I could fix it was going all the way back to stock and then rerooting.
Hopefully someone will find a solution that's a lot easier and less time consuming. Good luck to you. :good:
i have/had the same issue, not near a wireless signal now, so will try when i get home.
I've tried everything thus far :
flashing the official 4.3 from Google
flashing the deoxed 4.3 from xda
restore from TWRP back to 4.2.2
and still no luck with Instagram, so this morning before flashing backing to 4.3 i noticed that in the \sdcard\Android\data folder there's some app that sit behind instagram being one of, i also encountered the same issue with Strava Cycling, so I've now re-flashed back to 4.3 will test later when i download instagram from the play store.
Will update.....

Help needed for factory resetting on Lollipop

Hey guys, I have Lollipop 5.0 on my Nexus 4 and just got the notification for 5.0.1. I'd like to update my phone to the latest version and then do a factory reset. I've already backed up all of my data that I need. However I've read on some forums that doing a factory reset with Lollipop automatically turns on Encryption on the device and this causes performance issues and slows down the phone. There is a way to factory reset and not to enable the encryption as well? Or is there no other option other than encrypting the phone? Can someone also explain how the encryption works? Does it decrypt the phone when you switch it on or when you unlock it from sleep and why does it cause performance issues?
Many thank.
Can anyone help?

Google camera app not working

After latest Nougat 7.1.2 update Google camera app keep stopping. I've booted phone in safe mode to check out whether some new app is the causing app to crash and didn't find any problem. Does anyone else have similar problem and how to solve it?
Tnx in advance.

In Settings>>Apps>>Camera force stop the app, and then under "storage" clear data. If that doesn't work uninstall the app reboot and then reinstall the app. If that doesn't work boot to recovery and wipe the cache partition if stock recovery, dalvik cache too if you have TWRP.
Tried with restart, with safe mode, wipe the cache. I haven't cleaned dalvik because I haven't rooted the phone. It seems that front camera is not working. After 7.1.2 update I managed to take one selfie with Google app and afterwards app crashed. I presume that app must stayed on front camera which keeps app crashing. Front camera is also not working on Skype and Snapchat, because I realised that switch camera option vanished on both apps. Any other suggestions?

Repeat delayed notifications

I factory reset my phone because of multiple issues, one of them being that I was receiving multiple delayed notifications from Facebook and Instagram (and occasionally texts). The problem is still occurring even after a factory wipe. It's driving me nuts. Can be a12 hour old notification, and it pops up repeatedly. My tablet isn't having this issue. Has anyone seen this before?

So on top of the notifications, apps hang on install. Again, fresh wipe, did this before wipe also

That's a weird one. Maybe try flashing the latest radio? If that doesn't fix it flash the factory image with flashall.bat

No root but you'll need to unlock the bootloader to flash the factory image. You can relock it when done flashing. I would think flashing stock will fix it. I can't think of any hardware faults that would cause these symptoms.

I would unlock the bootloader and flash the latest image from Google using flash-all.bat. Instructions are on the download page.
I'm also getting repeated notification for texts now on DP3. Until I read it. Could be a feature (as requested by some people for some time). I didn't find any corresponding issue on the tracker.
Personnaly, I'll defintely won't factory reset for that feature/bug.
