Hi Friends.
I have a 3 yr old Galaxy S2 (GT19100) and I must say this is the longest running phone in the history of my Mobile Phone usage. I have been using Mobile phones from the year 2000 and I must say the technology has advanced so far on the last decade or so that at times I find it difficult to match up with it.
The purpose of this thread is to help Galaxy S2 users to find the best custom ROM's for S2 users. (Dev's and testers your feedback is the most valuable)
Personally, I am a fan of Samsung's Touchwiz skin and I have used Wizzedkat, Jellysnap, Revolution Rom etc and I would like to know your views on which Touchwiz based Rom you find the best and why.
I am yet to try the Fusion and I know there are many more Touchwiz based Roms.
I would appreciate your contribution as this will help all those who are looking for a stable Touchwiz based Rom which works great and gets the most out of our S2.
Sorry, but Best ROMs threads are usually not allowed.
So a mod is likely to freeze this thread.
Discussion might be possible if a thread is framed differently than "Best ROM".
That said, particularly with an older device like the GT-I9100 is now, I prefer AOSP ROMs. I prefer KitKat or Lollipop before older stock ROMs most of the time.
And despite what I, or many others, might feel about the situations about CM and CM Inc, CM11/12 and ROMs derived from it are still in the lead as far as popularity goes, though that lead has diminished over the last few years.
I currently have 18 active Android devices I use for testing my Android apps. And all of them has CM or CM derived ROMs available, except possibly for some Sony's if FXP is considered distinct from CM.
Of course my perspective is that of a developer, mostly doing app testing. Individual devices may have ROM's available that appeal more to people who like UI and other "extra whiz-bang" features.
Neat ROM!! Its awesome, just moved over to the 4.4.4 version if neat ROM and its good.

I just purchased the Galaxy Tab and want to get it rooted with a custom ROM. I'm not new to this, just new to tablets. Does anyone recommend any certain ROM? And if so, what's good/better about it? I don't mind the stock look but I know it can get faster and smoother. If you also wouldn't mind sharing your setups and screenshots that would be helpful.

tried several roms and my immediate impression is that your actual Tablet model dictates how much choice you have -- the wifi only model has more options available but doesn't enable the 3G or 4G functionality necessary for those Tablets.
HC3.1 is your key: latest stock firmware is KI2 with KI1 overlap (KI1 pda/csc, KI2 modem) check either sammobile or use Check Fus 2.0 -- most developers are just in the process of porting their roms from the older KME structure and/or just getting a Tablet and determining their time commitment to develop a rom for the Tablet as well as their existing phone.
I suspect that a month from now the landscape will be a lot clearer.
Again, custom kernels are restricted to the one from Pershoot (again, check and use the 7500 or 7510 variant as appropriate) as the source from KI1 and KI2 is still so new.
The 10.1 is newly released in several markets: seems the development of programs is still at an early and vibrant stage.

Yeah try In Paris ver 5. Really fast and smooth

I prefer rooted stock with pershoots kernel. In all its touchwiz glory
try overcome series. It is good and fast.
I tried some ROMĀ“s as well and for me the best allrounder was Paris V5 especially a good support in thread.
Foreword to the developers - I think you do a fantastic work, given the circumstances, with no source code available - but I want to be sincere and share my own experience.
After trying ALL available ROM's (first time a month ago and this week for the second time) I concluded that the rooted stock TW (KME) is the best one. I know it doesn't have all the customization and tweaks found on other ROM's (which are of personal taste), but is by far the most stable and smooth ROM you can have on your GT7510.
The current ROM's have many bugs (you can see how frequently they are updated) and they really don't add much performance, if at all.
FC's, color problems, freezing, reboots and lags are some of the problems I experienced with all custom ROM's. The stock ROM is a product that passed a far stricter QA process, so it will certainly have less bugs like these.
I am sure many users in this forum will disagree with me, but this is my real experience.
And, just to be clear - YES! I love my GT7510! It is one of the best tablets today, if not the best!

Thank you this is the feedback I was looking for, you explained the points I was curious about.
Why is there no source code? Doesn't this defeat the purpose of Android?

There's only 4 custom ROMs, and only 2 are regularly updated. There's also an "extreme" stock ROM. I think you could try all three in about a week, and come up with your own opinion.
Welcome.
I've got paris v.4 (now v.5), and it's great.

Google didn't release the source code for Honeycomb because they didn't want it ported to smartphones.
Now, with the release of Ice Cream Sandwich, we expect the release of the source code, because this is the convergence version between smartphones and tablets.
And this is good news, because yesterday one Italian operator confirmed that the GT 10.1 will receive this upgrade.
And then we will really see how wonderfully capable are the developers in this forum.
In paris V5 all day. +1 added to everyone that recommended it already.
I really like In Paris. I am currently on Bindroid, also fast and smooth and I love the themed status bar.

Good feedback here but neglects the other side of the story that the other custom rom are not just about customizations or themes i have tangible benefits in responsiveness and video playback, connectivity to adhoc networks etc so as commented it does not take long to try these out for yourself

My suggestion would be to try Overcome ROM. I switched from Paris because I prefer the stock honeycomb look and I find it smooth and fluid (not that In Paris isn't also good, just prefer Overcome's look and feel more).
Hi There!
as a matter of fact to date we only have 2 ROM based on JB 4.1.1 that apparently are fighting for the leadership of the ranking of our beloved note 10.1 Well, from one side this sounds to me quite frustrating since I moved to Android from iOS just because of the thousand possibilities of personalization of devices but this seems only for the most famous Galaxy sIII or II. SO, point is, which rom is the best between Dr Akrim and Team Union? is there something else I'm missing (considering I still want to use default samsung apps so I'm not including the CM10)?
ths for your comments.
a
Well I guess both roms have their best and worst sides compared to eachother.. You simply have to try them both and see which one you like most..
Personally Id like a very clean rom with diff. tweaks made to it.
Generally, we don't allow "best ROM" or "which ROM" threads out of respect for developers and the knowledge that ROM choice starts and ends with personal preferences. Thread closed. Thanks!
Hi Guys, many of you may recognize me from the Nexus 5 forum through my contribution of Elix-R ROM to the Nexus 5 forum. Elix-R was extremely popular but sadly the last update i released for it was well over 5 months ago due to lack of time. I have come back to the development scene and what better way than to update my widely popular ROM to V1.2 Tetra.
The main reason for this thread is me needing average users that are willing to test my rom. My ROM's main focus is Stability, and Speed, For that exact reason I use the GPe ROM as a base to ensure maximum stability as well as speed. I have dedicated several hours to ensure that this ROM will be the snappiest and quickest ROM that you will ever experience for the M8. Not even kidding when I say that upon boot on dalvik it multitasks like ART. Besides that I like to add a touch of class to my ROMS and stylize and implement some nice and simple features that will result in a much better user experience than you would have using Stock.
There is one thing, Elix-R is not like most AOSP ROMS out there. I don't try to pack as much features and useless crap that will flood the device's resources. My end goal is to provide the cleanest, fastest, and most elegant experience for a ROM. So for that exact reason I don't base any of my ROMS on CM11, PA, ETC so please don't ask me to port features like that to this ROM. As mentioned before I use the stock GPe ROM as a base so modifications such as Boomsound and Motion Launch Gestures work 100%.
In order to become a tester for Elix-R V1.2 Tetra please PM me and I will send you a personalized copy to you for BETA testing purposes. Simple flash it then send me a simple and small review of how it performs, if you encountered any bugs, how it looks, and what might be needed to improve. Thanks

I'm just curious, but what makes the Omega Rom so damn popular and successfull? Most Roms have the same features and even more + some apps on Omega cost money....
This isn't meant as a hate thread, I'm just wondering and maybe I'm missing something.
Stability, battery life, performance. This is what most users look in a rom.
I guess Omega offers all of this and more

That's true but almost all half decent roms offer this nowadays
It's marketing. Nothing more.
Hi mates,
care in what is done, great support , team work.....and what i think is the most important aspect people participates a lot in their different threads which helps make it better..
word of mouth marketing.....yes sure
Basically every TW based rom in the Android Development section has no significante change to the stock rom Samsung released. Mostly it are all roms with a few apps removed, a few apps added, maybe a different kernel and a different theme. Little coding, so not much difference between them (there are exceptions).
Usually the thread with the most shiny images gets the most people. But I think the strength of Omega is in making people that are new to flashing to chose for his rom.
The real coding takes places in the Original Android Development section where roms are coded from scratch.
Hi,
Fame is fame, it doesn't mean a product is better than another. Let's take Apple iPhone for example, its fame is beyond the level of, let's say, HTC One, however you cannot guarantee one is better than the other.
I believe you should give a try if you think it's worth your time, if not search for another ROM .
All the best,
~Lord
Hello.
I need advice/suggestions on choosing a Rom for my Samsung Galaxy S 4 (I9505/jfltexx). What I am looking for is a ROM that is stable and actively maintained with regards to bug and security fixes, preferably AOSP based. I have no need for neither all sorts of bells and whistles, fancy eye candy nor bleeding edge features. Rushing to the latest major android version is not a priority, having my phone fully working is, though.
Here is some "background data" om me in the hope of providing a more complete picture of what I am looking for based on my previous use/experience.
I have owned 3 android capable devices. HTC Legend, Samsung Galaxy SII and Samsung Galaxy S 4. One can argue these have been poor choice of devices but it is what it is. I have been running mainly Cyanogenmod since 6.1 I believe on all devices. Fact is, flashing CM has been one of the first thing I have done after buying a new device as I tend to "gag" on HTCs and Samsungs firmware. The first few years I used to tinker about with the devices a lot, flashing stable, RC, milestone and nightlies, different ROMs/kernels frequently but always found my way back to fairly default CM. It has been a bumpy ride on CM (yes, I realize this is in part due to my choise of devices) and while I am not here to lash out at CM in general, recent choices from the CM team and increasingly inconsistent support for my current device leads me to looking for alternatives while really appreciating the sheer amount of great work the CM team have done over the years.
So, what drew me towards CM in the first place? Well, mostly the flexibility/customizability of the ROM and the power/control I felt I had of it, the openness of it and what once was an active, positive community around it. Admittedly, SenseUI and TouchWiz probably pushed me towards it as well. The most recent year or two I have moved a bit away from tinkering and have had a higher need for a stable and maintained ROM that "just works".
I had decided to go for OmniROM, it seemed to be a decent alternative but I am under the impression that my device is no longer supported. Have been considering CopperheadOS as well.
Anyway, I am open to suggentions.
Cheers.
Slimsaber and Slim roms are constantly updated. They are also mantained by the same developer.
Resurrection Remix. I use this rom for some time and I have no issues. But this depends from phone to phone.
It is pretty feature rich.
The GPE rom is also a good choice. But GPE 5.1 is still pretty new and may not offer a stable and bugfree experience. You might want to try GPE 5.0, but it is not mantained anymore, since the move to 5.1.
There is a pure AOSP rom. It's basically the same thing you find on a nexus device.
