Cellular connection not working correctly - Verizon Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently went through the steps to go to 4.4.4 NI2 and root it with this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55495211&postcount=1
During that process, I noticed my cellular signal wasn't working correctly, but continued on until I finished installing Rick's ROM V19.6 with a fresh install of safestrap and fresh install of Rick's ROM. Now that I have that installed and want to actually start using my phone now, my cellular connection is hardly working at all. I reflashed the NI2 modem firmware and now I am getting 3g signal only when I should be getting 4g. My ping is also very high 1000+ms. My download speeds are also super low (0.18 mbps down/ 0.59 mbps up). Something during all this process has really messed up my cellular connection and I don't know how to fix it.
I tried flashing the NCG Modem firmware and it wasn't getting any signal at all . It was just showing the circle with a line through it. I then flash the NI2 modem firmware and am getting the behavior as described above.

I ended up going to the verizon store and it took a new sim card and factory reset to fix it. No thanks on future rooting prospects for this thing.

I feel like a factory reset alone might have done it, oh well though, glad you got it fixed.

I had factory reset it several times myself. In any case, I am glad to have it working again.

No LTE after flashing

I'm a bit stumped as to what happened here. When I first purchased my phone (SGH-I337M on Bell Mobility in Canada) it had LTE connectivity. Soon afterwards I flashed m3dd0g's Stock Google Edition 4.2.2 rom (It was V2 at the time) and the phone still had no issues connecting to LTE.
Now here is the part I'm confused about. I flashed V4 of the rom a while back and I didn't notice it until recently but I believe I lost LTE after this. It might have been something else I did as I didn't notice exactly when this happened since the phone sometimes switches between H+ and LTE. Now I'm only connecting to H+ and seeing download speeds of around 12Mbps. I've tried flashing a few other roms and still no luck. I have even tried restoring the nandroid backup of the original stock Samsung firmware and even that is failing to connect to LTE. I checked and I'm still using the stock Canadian baseband (MVLUAMDJ).
Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I can try to do? Thanks!

I did a little reading and it appears you have had this problem for some time, end of April at least. You need to be able to determine if you have root. You are not sure what your recovery is...it also appears your phone may be international that you have been trying to unlock sim on. Not sure if I will be able to help until some of these questions can be answered.
Hi yes the phone is rooted and also is international unlocked it is a sprint l720 that I have the wifi was working before but not to its full potential it's signal was very weak and kept dropping out, since I upgraded the modem to the NAE modem the wifi will not switch on at all despite pressing the button for it . So I then reverted back to the previous modem which it was before which was the MDC and still face the same issue.
Have you done a basic battery pull? Had the same problem and that worked surprisingly. Left it out around thirty seconds.
Yep tried that still no joy wont let me switch wifi on
This is my phone info if that helps

Have not heard a response yet so I take it that my phone is a no go and will be able to get the wifi sorted . How much can 8 expect to sell the phone for I have really had enough with the sprint variation

This might help.

My girlfriend had this problem on her unrooted s4. Wifi would not turn on , nor scan, or do anything. She was freaking out. All I did was take out the battery, sim car, and press the power button a few times. Left it that way for about 10 seconds. Put battery , sim , back in and restarted. Worked fine.

Remove the sim card as well as the battery. Press the power button a few times with battery and sim out. Put back together.
Flash the complete mf9 rom.
hi thanks for the advice i managed to get the mf9 firmware by odin on the phone and the WiFi started working again, im still facing the same problem of a weak signal unless im in the same room as the wireless router when it is at full strength tried resetting the router changing the parameters and still no joy , if any body has any other solutions pls share .
What router do you have? Did you factory reset your phone after flashing mf9?
I have a dlink dir 615 router which I updated to the latest firmware and also reset which didn't help and I never done a full factory reset as the phone rebooted itself after flashing the mf9 firmware on to it
Bump
Anybody help me out here ? What do I try to get this issue resolved ?
Still no replies that is fantastic !!!
Overwhelmed with so much support from this forum
Is your router dying? Do you have any other devices that connect to it?
Does your phone's WiFi work on any other WiFi network?
The router connects fine and strong signal to all my other wireless gadgets like ps3 ipad smart tv . I have these issues with nearly every wifi connection made regardless with my s4 the signal is very weak or nothing at all .

Root gets rid of all radio stuff?

I had an issue with Alliance rom. It went from wifi to 4g and I lost the prl and other stuff (said unknown). I only had wifi.
I was able to Odin back to stock. It took like three times as it would not move past the activation screen.
Now, on stock, I flashed TWRP recovering using ODIN, then used the CF root from Odin also. Phone restarted and while I have the 4g logo, I have no phone and the information is missing again (PRL). I do get wifi.
I just used Odin to reflash stock and it is still doing it. I also used the imei tool to restore what I had backed up (EFS). Can anyone help? What is going wrong?
Edit: Phone restarted with root BUT now I cannot make calls (it says roaming) and I am missing the prl and other things again. HOWEVER, I can use wifi, and 4g and no texting also.
If anyone has a clue I'd like to know, thanks.

I actually could not find the stock modem. I DID solve it.
1.) Odin back to stock. It will freeze on the activation screen.
2.) Remove sim card after shutting down.
3.) It will get past that and connect with wifi.
4.) THEN clock on roaming to turn it on with sim in.
5.) Phone will then contact US Cellular to "activate and program." It will finish after a few minutes.
6.) Restart and enjoy
In case this happens to anyone else. Thanks for the help (lol). I've had a Droid Eris, HTC DNA, and a Droid Bionic.

Data modem not functioning after clean wipe / flash

I have this strange problem where sometimes my modem does not work after a clean flash. Usually just making sure the data network preference is set to LTE solves the issue, and after 10 min or less the phone picks up the band. But I've just done a clean flash teamUB 1/11 and its been 24 hours with no data connection. This same build worked fine for this same phone a week ago, but the 1/19 broke the phone so I had to do a clean wipe and go back to 1/11.
I've played with data roaming options in CDMA roaming mode, set to domestic roaming, national roaming. Still no data
Any advice?
This is for a 900P (sprint) - Note that I am on CREDO (uses Sprint network)
EDIT - FIXED YAY!!! FULL LTE WORKING GREAT!

The issue started when I was forced to wipe my system data and do a clean install in order to get the phone functional after boot loop from 1/19 update. so yes, I would assume that the modem built into the 1/11 update I rolled back to (clean install) contained the modem. But, as stated, the 1/11 build was working fine for me before, and not now.
Is there a way to just update the modem itself on this build/phone? I've been wondering about that and wanted to try it if possible.

There is no modem included in TeamUB's roms.
First thing's first, what model are you using? Go to signature settings and write your model there, this way whoever is helping you they will know what they're dealing with.

Sorry, I wrote 900P in the first post, I thought that was enough information. I've updated my signature to contain more information.
thanks

No need to say sorry man, just mean it makes it easier. Haha you're signature says 900O lol.
1 Install Samsung USB driver for mobile phones
2 Download the NE5 modem one click flasher here
3 Put your phone into download mode (Turn off the device, press Volume Down, Home and Power Buttons simultaneously, Once you see the warning message, release all buttons, Press Volume Up to enter download mode, Now your device should be in download mode)
4 Run the file from #2 and flash modem (if NE5 doesn't help try the other ones).
I don't think it's a modem problem though. IMO it's either the rom or the operator..

The NE5 throws a <OSM> MD5 hash value is invalid error. I flashed the ND2 version and no immediate data connection, but from past experience it can take a little while for the modem to sync. No idea what causes the delay, but everytime i flash a new rom it can take sometimes up to 30min before it gets a data connection. Been 15min no connection yet.
Couldnt find a mirror anywhere of that NE5 one click flasher. Know of any other hosts? i googled to no avail.

Update:
I have restored a old backup to kitkat, modem working fine, instant connection. Then I did a system wipe, clean flash to cyanogenmod 1/20 update released yesterday.....no modem. Restored backup again to kitkat, then did a dirty flash to 1/20 cyanogenmod.....no modem.
I think the issue is 5.0 itself. The issue is so random, I do not know how to troubleshoot it. I've installed maybe a dozen CM's so far, and its been a coin toss whether the modem works after install. Sometimes it syncs up after a few min, and sometimes never. its really strange because I had the modem working fine on TeamUB from late december, through 3 or 4 updates until 1/19 boot looped it. Now after that nothing has gotten the data back on other than restoring to kitkat.
When i did the clean install to cyanogenmod, on the startup process where it says 'waiting to activate cellular service' it gets stuck there and never activates the data.
Also, when trying to flash the NE5 tar md5 you linked to, I get md5 error! Binary is invalid. Im supposed to use AP, yes?
EDIT - Changed preferred network type to 3G and after a few reboots got data! Going to change back to LTE now and give it some time to see if i can get it to sync up.

No luck leaving it on LTE. When I switch back to 3g I can get a connection, LTE set in preferences I get no connection, not even 3g. I've been testing around the city and at my home, where I can always pickup a LTE connection from past experience.
It seems that the LTE protocol within 5.0 is buggy for my situation. If it works, it seems to work fine, but when it doesnt work, it never works. So its either glass is full or empty

There are two versions of labels in Odin. The "normal" says "phone" the one I don't like says "CP". You have the Odin I don't like lol, so yours says "CP". That's where you put the modem. "AP" is for firmware/roms only.
Try these two modems, which I found on this page, NK4 for 4.4 while NKD is for 5.0.
Try Ktoosez kernel and also check your Apn settings, it's supposed to be optimised for CDMA phones and might help you.

Can't get LTE on G900-R4

Hey guys, hopefully you can help me get my S5 back on track.
KLTEUSC G900R4
The story goes:
I've been running CM13. Flashed a nightly, I notice my phone hasn't locked 4G basically all day. 3G only.
So I Odin back to stock using the latest firmware. Phone is still stuck in 3G. Phone does an OTA update to CPF2 baseband version. Still no 4G.
Took the phone to USC store, they provided me with a new SIM. Nothing changed.
I took a trip out of my home area, about 100 miles away I got 4G, but i had no network connection? The phone displayed 4G but i could not connect to any internet. It then dropped down to 3G shortly after and I was able to access data again.
Since then I've flashed back to CM13 (snapshot august 20th release) since if I'm going to be stuck in 3G forever, it might as well be on a ROM that I like.
Please help!
Thanks,
Jeremy.
Bump. Still no LTE.
If I reboot the device, the phone locks LTE for a few seconds, with network connectivity, but then quickly loses it and drops back to 3G. If I leave the phone in LTE preferred, it will run in 3G for most of the time, but occasionally totally lose data (I'm assuming its trying to connect to LTE) then go back to 3G.
Any Ideas?
flash the stock tar.md5 in Odin, reflash TWRP, boot it up fully, boot into recovery, make a NAND, reflash your ROM. Sounds like something got screwed up in the radio firmware
Will that still work even though I can't get 4G when i'm on the stock rom?
$50 reward to whoever can successfully restore 4G LTE to my phone. I've been living on 3G for 6 months and its starting to get to me.
I've been on Lineage OS with the same results. There was a firmware update, so I flashed it through Odin, and ran the stock rom/firmware for about 3 days with the same results. No 4G. Called up the US Cell Tech guys and they were going to check everything over on their end.
The last go round, I repartitioned the phone, did NandEraseAll, and EFS clear.
Any ideas?
