Hi All - I am still running my LG G2 with stock rooted Jelly Bean with the LG/VZW 12B software. I only wanted to root so I could get the tether app running and freeze bloat and I have been very please with my phone and never had a reason to upgrade. However, after seeing a few enhancements from KitKat, I now want to upgrade. I've had the OTA software frozen by titanium backup but recently unfroze everything and then my phone downloaded the OTA 26A update - BUT I HAVE NOT INSTALLED IT YET. However, I've been reading about a lot of issues with this so now I'm second guessing my decision.
Is there any way to keep my root from 12B -> 26A???
Should I upgrade to 24A first? I read somewhere that rooting 24A and then upgraeing to 26A keeps root.
Is there a way to downgrade back to 12B if I'm unsatisfied by the results? I just want to make sure after the upgrade that I can still use wireless tether and still have a flawless phone.
Thanks.

Are we still unable to root if on TMO's 2.15 GB update? Just got a replacement phone today (old one's wifi finally went out), and I wanted to use Titanium to restore apps etc.
no but theres a downgrade guide all over the Android Development forums that shows you how to downgrade your gingerbread device to stock froyo 2.2...From there you can use any root method you want for the G2
Edit: heres the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
Bleh, shoulda rooted before I manually upgraded then.
Hello all,
I have a G2 running that I haven't touched, except for rooting. It's running Android 4.2.2, kernel 3.4.0-perf-g7c2d0a2, build JDQ39B, software version VS98011A. I'm running stock (just as it came), no ROMs, nothing else, TWRP not installed.
If I do the OTA update that started popping up a couple of days ago (I would like to update), will I screw my phone up? Will I screw up my root? I am most worried about losing my tethering....
Thank you for any help
Most often..No. Some people get lucky, but it isn't recommended.
Hey ive got a rooted d802 running the original rooted 4.2.2 firmware it came with. Right now ive got a notification for a software update about 70mb large. It doesnt specify what the update is. I'm hoping it might be kitkat. My question is can i update my rooted phone without any problems?

No, when rooted never install OTAs as it can lead to incompatibilities that could get you stuck in bootloop etc.
install a custom recovery(i prefer TWRP: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2469995) then choose a ROM, ensuring that it is D802 compatible (should say in the thread). The ROM will usually be updated to the latest available android version, if you dont want any tweaks go for a pure stock ROM:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2521152.
Ensure that when changing android versions that you are backed up (Titanium Backup:https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup&hl=en) and make sure you follow the instructions on the ROM thread accurately.
I have a vs980 that I want to downgrade. Currently I'm on rooted 24a and I want to go to 12b. Do I simply flash the rooted 12b rom and 12b radios? Or do I need to follow the "Back to Stock" thread and flash the 11a rom via the lg tool? I've read about and flashed a "bootstack" and don't think either of those would downgrade that.
I'm nervous about downgrading because I went though hell recently trying to upgrade from 12b to 24a. After flashing paranoidandroid kitkat rom and 24a radios I was disconnected from verizons data network for a couple of days. I tried everything and ended up on verizon's rooted 24a without data connectivity. I thought the sim was corrupt but was on vacation and couldn't go to a verizon store. Weirdly, after a few days, it simply started working.
I had a lot of charging issues on verizon's 12b with various custom kernels and decided to flash 24a - only to find out that flash is mostly broken on it. I want to flash to rooted 12b and this time not use custom kernels.
Thanks for your help.
I am currently running 4.4.4 on a G900V wit NK2 rooted and Saftestrap. The phone constantly nags me about updating.
My predicament is that I use T-Mobile as my carrier and at the moment everything works except wifi calling. I can run a stock TMO ROM and get everything working great - but then I think I will be stuck at Kit Kat, and cannot use custom ROMs.
I am wondering what my options are with the update. I have heard I can roll back to 4.x but what if the radios don't match my stock TMO ROM anymore?
Will OTA update un-root my phone and hose my ability to use it with T-Mobile?
Help please.
I think I found my own answer on this thread, 3rd page:
