Are we still unable to root if on TMO's 2.15 GB update? Just got a replacement phone today (old one's wifi finally went out), and I wanted to use Titanium to restore apps etc.
no but theres a downgrade guide all over the Android Development forums that shows you how to downgrade your gingerbread device to stock froyo 2.2...From there you can use any root method you want for the G2
Edit: heres the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
Bleh, shoulda rooted before I manually upgraded then.

After much research on the site, I wasn't able to locate anything current on if a 2.1 can be downgraded back to the 1.56 version?
I am currently running the latest v1.56 fresh mod, and it runs great and have no problems with it. I am debating on upgrading to the newest Cyanogen mod, but I do NOT want to be stuck w/ 2.1 if it doesn't work properly. I had to have Sprint send me a new phone after I upgraded last time because the 2.1 just totally screwed with my in-car bluetooth device. Right now, bluetooth is very stable and such, but now just wanting to try the update.
If I wanted to downgrade, how exactly would I do that? I'm kinda gunshy on doing this since it all seems to be working fine right now.
Any help is appreciated!
Just root your 1.56 device as it is, using an old root method for 1.5 versions. Do NOT apply the 2.1 RUU or use the root steps for 2.1.
When you're rooted on 1.56 and have a custom recovery, you can apply any ROM you want, including the newer 2.1 ROMs.....all without fully upgrading your whole phone to the stock 2.1 release.
This is what I've done. Technically my phone is still on 1.5 root, because I never applied the official 2.1 RUU. But with the custom recovery image (you'll see how to get that in the rooting guide), I am running a 2.2 ROM. I could easily uninstall/delete this ROM and still return to the 1.5 stock state.
This will let you try CM6 or any other 2.1 or 2.2 ROMs without crossing that "can't go back" state. PM me for more help if you'd like.

Guys,
I bought a Nexus One (stock unlocked AT&T version) for a close friend a few months back (just before they stopped selling it)
The thing is, he is still unrooted and has a locked bootloader - The latest Android version on his phone is FRG83D (the latest) with the 5.02 radio (I guess)
He wants to root his phone, but does not want to void his warranty (by unlocking the bootloader) -
Can someone point me to the easiest (and failsafe) method on rooting his phone for him?
My Nexus One has an unlocked bootloader and am running the latest Enom's ROM back when I had the FRF91 (I used the fastboot method to root mine and it worked)
Any help (with steps if possible ) would be highly appreciated
EDIT: I believe SuperOneClick and Universal AndRoot has been patched with the latest FRG83D update. Question: is there any tool that is as simple as those tools?
I rooted my FRG83D with SuperOneClick, as described in its thread, and then downloaded ROM Manager, and installed the ClockworkMod Recovery. So, I have root and a custom Recovery without unlocking the bootloader.
I have now CyanogenMod 6.1 Stable, with a great theme, everything's working better than expected.
Hope this helps.

Hi All - I am still running my LG G2 with stock rooted Jelly Bean with the LG/VZW 12B software. I only wanted to root so I could get the tether app running and freeze bloat and I have been very please with my phone and never had a reason to upgrade. However, after seeing a few enhancements from KitKat, I now want to upgrade. I've had the OTA software frozen by titanium backup but recently unfroze everything and then my phone downloaded the OTA 26A update - BUT I HAVE NOT INSTALLED IT YET. However, I've been reading about a lot of issues with this so now I'm second guessing my decision.
Is there any way to keep my root from 12B -> 26A???
Should I upgrade to 24A first? I read somewhere that rooting 24A and then upgraeing to 26A keeps root.
Is there a way to downgrade back to 12B if I'm unsatisfied by the results? I just want to make sure after the upgrade that I can still use wireless tether and still have a flawless phone.
Thanks.
I am currently running 4.4.4 on a G900V wit NK2 rooted and Saftestrap. The phone constantly nags me about updating.
My predicament is that I use T-Mobile as my carrier and at the moment everything works except wifi calling. I can run a stock TMO ROM and get everything working great - but then I think I will be stuck at Kit Kat, and cannot use custom ROMs.
I am wondering what my options are with the update. I have heard I can roll back to 4.x but what if the radios don't match my stock TMO ROM anymore?
Will OTA update un-root my phone and hose my ability to use it with T-Mobile?
Help please.
I think I found my own answer on this thread, 3rd page:

Hey guys...
I have been running the official 3.0 beta for a week and now I want to revert to 2.2.1.
I know I have to downgrade TWRP (right?) but I find the posts a little clttered som I need a straight answer.
What do I need to go back? I would like to keep a modded recovery and I intend to root it afterwards.

just follow this tutorial and flash back your 2.2.1 rom and then flash SuperSU to root it
I read that one but I´m unsure that the recovery is a modded one (TWRP)... cause I wanna keep that. But from what I understand I have to flash an older TWRP for Lollipop?
Edit: Nevermind... I got it. Now I just have to find the Stock 2.2.1
