[Relevant] Android TV launcher now available on Google Play - Fire TV General

The Android TV Launcher is now available for download on Google Play. Google has decided to make it a standalone app from Android TV, similarly to the Google Experience Launcher.

The launcher gives you access to your media like movies, songs and Android TV apps like Netflix, TED and YouTube. To install it, you’ll need an Android TV device, like the Nexus Player and ADT-1.
This is great news, since Google will be able to push updates faster to the launcher without having to update the whole Android TV platform. You can check out the source link below to see its progress.

I wonder if it is possible to change the Launcher on the Fire TV and TV Stick?

Has anyone tried this on the Amazon Fire Tv. Thanks

I tried to download the APK via evozi but it failed...
Edit: found the apk, but the software it won't work on Jellybean.

Google using ugly UI on chromium-based browsers

I'm not sure why, but a while back, Google websites started using the antiquated UI on my device for no reason. If I use a non-chromium-based browser such as monument browser,I don't have this issue. Is there any fix for this?
I'm using a fire hd 8 2017 for reference.

Because the Amazon System WebView (com.amazon.webview.chromium) is useless and ugly Amazon's user agent. Uninstall or disable it.
You can switch to desktop user agent or install Android System WebView (com.google.android.webview) as a system app (root required)

Install apps of unknown sources

In my shield pro 2019 there is no switch visible to allow the installation of apps of unknown sources.
I have developer options enabled already.
How can I install apps of unknown sources?
Can you just install filelinked? I've got most my apps using it
I'm late, but it is Settings - Device Preferences - Security & restrictions - Unknow sources
Sent from my Nord using XDA Labs
I've tried to use web download on the Analiti app by accessing apkpure and bringing up an app I have on other android devices. It will not download then I found that BlueMail and Filelinked are "not compatable" from Nvidia yet watched videos on YouTube that were made up to just a couple months ago showing this being done. The only thing I can think of is firmware upgrade 8.2.1 as of 11/16 is what is causing this. I'm wondering myself if there is a workaround or how to downgrade back to the last firmware if anyone has any input on this?
Looks like the Shield TV is locked down like chastity belt, going to be returning mine back to Best Buy. What a rip, considering Fire TV cube is half the price.
At least 8.2.2 installs from unknown sources fine.

Google Assistant problem on TV box transformed to Android TV

Hi,
I have succeeded in transforming my RK3229 tv box into an Android TV by following this tutorial: https://forum.freaktab.com/forum/de...onversion-from-stock-android-to-android-tv-os
Summary:
- edit build.prop, add “tv_core_hardware.xml” and “tv_features.xml”
- install Android TV version of Google Play Store & Google Play Services
- install Android TV Launcher
I have also installed Live channel+CosmiDVR for watching IPTV, it is working properly now except one problem: I cannot open a channel by using Google Assistant.
When I say something like "open HBO" or "open channel 1", Google assistant always returns "không thay kenh do" (mean: "couldn't find that channel")
I think that it needs some extra apk files but I don't know which they are.
What do I have to do now ?

UPDATE: now it is running well.
Just install OpenGApps to your TV and everything should be fine.

How to check it "successfull"? or just download app from Google Play without issue?

Uninstall Default Video and Music App on Android 10

Is there a way to uninstall the default Music and Video app on Android 10? I am already using PowerAmp as my music player and MX Player as my video player. When I go to Settings -> Apps -> Music or Video, the option to uninstall is not available but for applications that I installed from the Play Store can be uninstalled.

You can only uninstall if your device is rooted because it's a system app.
Another possibility would be to use adb and disable the apps.
On the other side... you can just not using the apps.

Hi TorsenH, thank you for the response. It's perhaps not easy to root my Android 10 so I may have to wait a little longer until instructions are available. I have an AllWinner K2501. I will look into disabling the apps through adb. I accidentally opened the native Music app the other day. After closing it, it would launch itself in the background and play music. It was kind of annoying.

Casting Chrome tab (embedded video) to Fire Stick.

Hi, I was wondering if FireStick 4k has this feature as Chromecast. I want to upgrade my first gen Chromecast. It's working fine, i have no problem with it but 5Ghz and Bluetooth support are welcomed.
Let me explain... I have no need for buit-in Apps ( Youtube, Prime, HBO and etc.) I'm using Brave Browser(Chromium) to stream movies and tv shows from my laptop to Chromecast. I know that Chromecast is actually streaming not my laptop( all i do is just control). Will Firestick do the same or it will just mirror content from my actual Laptop. ( In other words PC is streaming and then FireStick will stream locally from my laptop) . Will Firestick give me an option (icon) to cast embedded video like Chromecast does?

If not i will probably just get Chromecast with TV. ( i missed Target sale it was $39 now its $49) Firestick however is on sale at $39.
Firestick only supports Miracast (different technology than chromecast).
Ohh... ok, i see!
Thank you for making it clear. I should have researched it before asking
