I've changed my dns on my nexus player like a month ago and I got US netflix working in canada. Then like a week ago netflix just stopped working a through an error. So I changed the dns and my internet works for all my other apps but netflix. when I open netflix this error comes up: "there was a problem connecting to netflix please try again later (-12)". if anyone can help, i'd appreciate it! thanks

Make sure your DNS provider is actually forwarding all the right Netflix domains... I know mine was missing one (android.nccp.netflix.com specifically) that the other android apps apparently don't seem to use...

Thanks! i changed my dns to unblock-us's
Different Problem but...
I have been having problems with the Netflix app on my nexus player as well. It has been giving me a popup that says "We are currently unable to play this title. Please try again later or watch something else" Or something along the lines of that. When I hit more details, and then hit check connection, the nexus player cannot connect to any of the Netflix servers. I'm pretty sure it isn't a connectivity problem, because I have on occasion given up and just browsed YouTube for a while, but I would like to know if there's a way to fix this. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, fandas.
rebooting made it work for me.
i have the same problem check the dns ok working on my computer and ipad but not on nexus player always says "We are currently unable to play this title. Please try again later or watch something else"
Follow the directions on unblockUS for changing the DNS on your router rather than your device. This should solve the problem.
Good luck
When I would transfer my player to another room or bring it to a friend's house I would run into that issue. The fix for me was just simply sign out of my Netflix account and signing back in.

I'm not sure if this is an issue in how my works Wi-Fi is set up and prohibiting me from connecting appropriately or if it's the Market itself.
Anyway I just got my Wi-Fi Xoom in today and immediately went to configure it to get apps and what not. I'm connected to my offices wi-fi and can browse the web, and get applications from Amazon's app store.
:
-- selecting apps to download/install doesn't do anything. The selected app won't show in "My Apps" I can't even get Maps to update.
Then randomly, the apps I have tried to download will somehow show themselves in "My Apps" under downloading, but they don't progress at all.
I've already tried to wipe it, close and wipe data from the market app, all to no avail. I'm really not sure what is going on.
The week prior I was using a colleagues xoom (3g version but 3g disabled), and had a similar problem as well, but eventually I had it working. I was given permission to wipe it and set it up as my own, so I don't know if the settings are messing with it from me using the other xoom with the same google account.
My office uses WPA2 Enterprise with a username and password, and have it set up in my Xoom as
Security: 802.1x EAP
EAP method: PEAP
Phase 2 Auth: None
Then my username and pass to connect.
Just curious... but because you are using the Amazon app store, have you checked the box "install from unknown sources"?
Correct. Since that's what allows for the apps to be installed from Amazon App Store.
Have you either used a file manager or plugged it into the USB on your computer, checked the root>downloads folder for the .apk files?
The only .apk files in there are the amazon app store.
Dunno what the problem could be then since its not a setting, but perhaps its a firewall issue in your office? Have you tried a different wifi connection completely to rule that out?
It is a firewall issue....I ran into the same problem when setting up a xoom in our network...

That's the only possibility I can think of. I've tried to share out my laptops connect see if going through that way would work, but no dice. Then using PdaNet on my iPhone, but won't even discover that network. I'll just have to wait till I get home.
At the apps download screen, try to hit cancel and download again, will that help?

Nope. The apps show the "install" option and then would sometimes go to downloading under "my apps" but then other times it won't do a thing.
Is not a network problem since i try in 3 different networks personals, corporate and tethering from Nexus S via T-mobile, here is a copy from Market help forums since i cant paste links in the forums.
I bougth the Xoom today ans I'm having issues with a lot of market applications. The message is Item not available for your carrier but I'm connecting via hotspot on my android smartphone an all aps are downloading OK. Why the apps work in one device and not in the Xoom if I'm using the same carrier? Please help

If the issue you are having relates to your location being in PR.. how would you go about guessing that the OP is from PR as well?

Still waiting to see if the OP posts whether his problem was related to the wifi at his work, or if he is still having issues.. and what his locale would be.
Sorry for the late response as once I got home I was busy playing with my Xoom and then today was actually trying to get some work done .
So it's pretty much resolved at this point.
1) I'm in the states. Northeast to be somewhat exact.
2) Definitely my work's network. As soon as I connected to my home network all of the apps I tried to install at work but weren't showing up, queued right up and got to downloading.
Come in to work today, and try downloading an app. And wouldn't you know it, the damn thing downloaded and installed just fine! It seemed like another one was going to resort back to the results I had yesterday, but tried again and it worked fine. Definitely odd.
Not sure if there was some sort of handshake that wasn't working with my xoom and the Android market while in the office on first use yesterday or what, but things are looking good now.
Thanks for your responses. While nothing was done from what I can see to fix it, I appreciate the help.
Could someone please post the Hulu Plus APK from their Nexus Player for us Canadians?
I tried grabbing one off the play store but there must be a special build for Android TV (if anyone knows the play id of that I'd be happy for that too)!
Thanks

need this as well
I've tried a few .apk's i've found online, none seem to be the right one with Android TV stuff in it. I suspect it doesn't exist in a spot we can easily see on the play store....
If you can find the link to it in the play store copy it and paste it into this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2392504&page=842
And ask if someone can get it for you.
I would, but we don't have the link for this special build of Hulu. We'd need someone the US to extract it from their device.
If someone tells me how to pull it I will gladly help.

Ok, so this is assuming you have your device connected to your computer and you can use adb (eg: you've enabled usb debugging on the nexus player).
First, run the following command and report back here the output:
Code:
adb shell pm list packages
If we get the correct package id first, we might be able to grab this right from the play store if it exists.... So please report that back first of all!
Now, if you have a rooted device, and you have skype or hangouts, please PM me and I'll walk you through the rest!
Thanks!

The pandora apk would be great too, the standard Android version wasn't usable for me.
Heres an apk that someone sent me on Google+. Install at your own risk obviously.
I have tried it and its working great! Has the homescreen launch icon and all. I do believe this is the real deal. If anyone wants to inspect it more closely that would be great!
I did check google play for this package id (com.hulu.livingroomplus) but it isnt showing up for me.
Enjoy!

Anyone know about the HGTV app? Isn't that a thing for the Nexus player?
HGTV app for Nexus Player
Okay. I have attached the newest version of the HGTV app you can install on your Nexus player. This is v1.2.0 and I have tested it myself..
Unfortunately unless you have a cable provider already basically all the content is locked up (Except for a few), so basically useless as a Canadian.
Anyways, here it is.

Already said that.. Check above.
How does google determine what region you are in and, thus, setup the apps you can and can't access? On the Chromecast, if you re-route googles hardwired dns servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 to your own dns service like unblock-us, etc, you can play US content through Netflix, et al. Doing so at the router level bypasses what google can determine on the Chromecast.
I used iptables to re-route google's dns servers at the router to my own US service but the Nexus Player still gave me Canadian content (or, rather, excluded a ton of American content such as Hulu, etc).
Anyone have any previous experience with google on these types of devices (ADT-1, Google TV, etc)? Is it linked to the account origin? Does signing up with a fake US address for a google account determine anything?
I have tried with a US account but I think it requires an account with a purchase made in the US, however everything else I have tried has not succeeded. Also in Australia I have been unable to upload the Netflix APK anyone mind uploading...

Didn't work (still limited) based on regional settings of Play Store....
What are you trying to get working? The Play store will be limited, I think that's a such is life kinda thing. But I've been able to side load hulu and use it with no problems, can also cast hulu and pandora.
Is anyone else having issues with HBO Go?
I have installed the app. I can log in via Cox with no trouble. Everything looks to be fine until I try to play something. Then it will show the HBO Go screen and the ratings. After that though all I get is the spinning wheel for like 3 minutes and then it goes back to the episode page. This happens when connected via Wi-Fi and Ethernet. I am not having any problems with HBO Go on any of my other devices (4 PCs and a Momo 7 tablet).
HBO GO FIX for MOJO
I was having the same trouble you described. I originally downloaded the hbo go app off the google play store which is version 3.0.1. got that same error. I and uninstalled found a different version 2.4.03 at mojo.madkatz.com using Chrome Browser and it fixed the problem. the site starts with a new owner tutorial slideshow before sending you to the full site. I know this post is from 6 months ago, but I could find no other information on any forum about how to fix it, so I hope this helps someone. That website also has other suggested and compatible versions of apps listed.
I'm struggling to find a VPN app that has visible controls/menus - every one of the apps I've sideloaded can't be configured.
From reading the forums this appears to be something to do with the "3 dots" being removed in the 5.1 update - I've been on 5.1 since the day I set mine up so never had this.
Are there any VPN apps that have the controls on the main screen or are otherwise compatible with NP/5.1?
I'm also looking to switch VPNs so if anyone has a working VPN on 5.1 using a particular client's app, I'd be interested to know which service. Apparently PIA's, which I had hope for because the controls were on the main screen, doesn't work if sideloaded on ATV; not sure whether this was with 5.0 or 5.1 because authors of these posts didn't specify.

it doesn't seem to be working that way for me. using PIA app and i can't access a web ui running on my desktop pc via sideloaded Chrome or any of my network shares via Kodi
any ideas?
You installed chrome on your nexus player? Make sure your player is connected to your home WiFi with dhcp, dont mess with the DNS. Launch your PIA app from chainfires side load launcher. Put your PIA username / password in and tick the save userinfo then click on connect. You should see on the bottom of your PIA app changing routes and then finally say CONNECTED. Hit your home button to get back to leanback launcher home., you may get a lean has crashed, just hit ok and get back home, PIA is still running in the background. Try launching a youtube video to verify you tunneled through successfully. After that launch Chrome via chainfires side load launcher. Navigate to whatismyip and should say your city and IP are different. Once you had verified go back to home and try to access your files again, if they are not there try and remap them. What are you using to stream home media? I have no issues within Kodi. If you are streaming through something else I'll mimic your setup and see what my results are.

That's exactly how I've been doing it but its not working.
My setup is NP connected via WIFI using DHCP. Launch PIA app from sideload launcher. Hit connect (details already saved), wait for connected confirmation. I confirmed via whatismyip and ipleak that I have VPN ip (not ISP ip).
I can do anything that involves internet - youtube, web, video streaming, etc.
But nothing local works: I can't access a service running @ http://192.168.1.XX: port via Chrome and I can't use the SMB shortcuts pointing to my NAS configured in Kodi or browse the windows network/workgroup to find the NAS manually (no local network devices show up at all). I haven't tried adding a source using the NAS ip (but I don't see why this would work if the Chrome web service test failed). Both of these things work fine when the VPN is switched off.
Edit: some google research and a brief chat with a relatively clueless tech support person leads me to believe that split tunnelling may not be implemented in the PIA android app.

all good, i'm glad someone was getting involved at least
i think there are at least a couple of vpn apps that support split tunnelling, but until there is a way to use menus on apps that aren't designed for the android tv leanback launcher, i don't think there is a way to have it work on a stock-rom nexus player
I would like to get that figured out too. I know on my RPI2 there was a workaround of sorts to get PIA working and has split tunnelling. Curious if the same method install would work with a few tweaks, though that will only VPN in Kodi. Ill mess around tonight if i get some time. let me know what you find.

Hi All,
Just hoping someone can answer this for me. I have tried searching XDA and everything.
I have International S7 Edge rooted.
When ever i am trying to watch the live cricket matches from Smartcric.com or Touchcric.com video does not load, i do see the play button and everything but when i click play traffic doesnt move at all and video never gets to load..... HOWEVER when i turn on the wifi it works perfectly fine and no issues at all. Its really frustrating when i am outdoor.
Is there any option i can turn off or something so that i can watch these live streams? Been looking for this answer for ages.
Please help? Thanks a ton in Advance.
Regards,
Ali
I just checked it out, it's working fine both on mobile data and WiFi for me. Is it possible that your phone's ISP deactivated that option or something?
Try with a VPN. There are tons of free VPNs to try in the Play Store. (I wouldn't trust them too much but it should be good for watching videos). If it's working with VPN your ISP is blocking it.
Another option would be tapping the play button on the video and then tap and hold it to download the video. (This works in Chrome, but I guess in other browsers too)
Or try the apps. On smartcric I've seen they have an apk download for their app on their website. Maybe that works better because of a built-in player or something.
Or watch using Kodi.
