GS4 root help needed - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Not sure if this is the right place but maybe someone can help. So I want to root my GS4. I am on 4.4.4 on at&t. I've tried several different methods and none worked. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I just used the method in this link, except I was on 4.4.2 so I used the old version of it (same method just different kernel files): http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...to-root-i337ucufnj4-4-4-4-11-13-2014-t2939553
It worked perfectly to root my AT&T S4. It is just rooted - no custom rom.
I think to add a custom rom i'd have to use a method that installs safestrap like the one at this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ng-rooting-t2926642/post56453100#post56453100

[Q] Rooting i9505 help

Hi guys,
I wonder if someone could point me in the right direction?
I have an i9505 on stock firmware v 4.2.2. I haven't tried to root as yet. I haven't had a droid for a few years now and I've never had a Samsung so I'm quite confused as how best to go about it.
I'm looking to run custom roms, Cyanogen etc so I'm guessing I'll need full root and a custom recovery? I was looking at CF-Auto-Root by Chainfire but it looks to be for use with stock/Samsung ROM's?
Any pointers would be much appreciated.

you said you have a stock ROM, if you want to root it, you'll want to look at first 3 posts, everything is there, just follow the steps

Root KitKat Stock

Hey did anyone find a script to root the LG G2 with the new firmware update to KitKat? I've tried to use the scripts that are out, but none worked and tried to root it before update and still nothing. If you guys have any helpful links please and thank you.

well you should look harder and you can find IOroot25 the only that can't be rooted on kitkat is the d801 t-mo variant which needs to be downgraded to 4.2 to root and install custom kk rom which supports root and custom recovery

No WiFi access via hotspot on Rooted AT&T S4

Ok, thanks to k1mu's guide here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758
I was able to root my phone properly. The key reason to root the phone was no access to tethering. Details for my situation:
Samsung S4, i337, MK2, andriod 4.3 from AT&T. I unlocked it and have been using with Rogers here in Canada but the tethering gives the Mobile data not available/invalid sim error.
I researched for solutions here and on google and all solutions required root, so I rooted the phone using the guide mentioned above. After that I used the method in this link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2535141
However, since I am using non-AT&T sim, this does not work any more. Further I uninstalled all AT&T apps using ES file explorer but still no luck.
Then I figured out and tried other solutions like FoxFi, etc etc.
Then I used the framework file from the thread below which was able to turn the toggle on.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2512981&highlight=at&t
Now I can see the the tethering tuned on. I can also connect to the wifi. however, it does not connect to internet. I think I am still missing some piece. I cannot post in the thread above as it is developers section. But I am lost, there is no further solution that I could find on forum or google. My mobile data works fine, I can turn on the tehter, I can connect to the hotspot, but I cannot connect to internet. It is a phone issue for sure.
I am not sure what to do in this case. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I have tried this as well, but it did not work.

Does anyone think flashing with stock ROM will help? does it delete all system files altogether? But the only stock ROMs available are AT&T, so I do not see it helping much. Any ideas?

If there's a tethering mod for the i337m on 4.3, try using that tethering provision instead. Otherwise, you could try flashing a ROM that uses an i337m base, but you can't flash their stock firmware directly.

I have tried that tethering mod (if that means replacing the tethering.odex file in the system)
I don't know what i337m base ROM is, but if it is installing AT&T stock ROM, then won't I be in same situation again?

I337m is the Canadian S4 model, I'm saying to use a tethering method designed for that (the two you posted were for the Verizion and AT&T but not Canadian) or try a TOM based off the Canadian firmware. That way it'll have the file for your specific carrier tethering already in it.

Not the stock firmware, that won't work. I mean to try and find a ROM based off that firmware/made for i337m.

First of all I appreciate your patience in these replies and helping me out.
Here is my next query.
I found this custom ROM based on i337m
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2313469
This post recommended this ROM
http://www.droidviews.com/best-custom-roms-for-att-samsung-galaxy-s4-sgh-i337/
but they also said I need to make sure that the baseband matches. I have MK2. Should I flash that or should I just go ahead and install the ROM as no such info is mentioned in the XDA thread. Also, are there any other changes I should make before installing this new ROM using safestrap?
please let me know

You'll have to look in the All Things MK2 and NB1 thread for install instructions and if it needs a modified updater-script for Safestrap. Also, the latest version is a 4.4.2 ROM so you'll either need to update to KitKat, use the KitKat Magic Toolkit, or use an older version of Goldeneye.

[Q] Someone please help///Samsung Galaxy S5 AT&T

I had used towelroot and it worked great. And like an idiot... i did the software update and assumed root would remain. But of course it didnt and now towelroot doesnt support my software. Does anybody know of a different root method? Or how to downgrade to my previous software so towelroot will work. I already have odin installed and followed one guide to revert to the old software but its failing 2 seconds into it. I downloaded it from sammobile and picked the correct model # and everything. Please someone help!!

Search around... I've seen more than one thread on this. Basically you put the old kernel on (just the kernel) just long enough to towelroot.
Was in the same boat as you, solved my problems following the directions posted here

Stock Lollipop OA8

I have a stock G900V running OA8. I see many guides for keeping you root when upgrading to this but can't seem to find out how to gain root access for it. I tried towelroot v3 and even with the custom strings it says my phone isn't compatible. :crying: I've seen a few thing regarding twrp for sprint/tmobile but nothing for verizon. If I need to use odin and downgrade that is fine but I need some guidance.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance for the help!
