So I did a stupid thing and recently stuck a paperclip in the R1 port that is located under the back cover to the right of the SIM card. Well, while my reception was in fact BETTER than it was without the paperclip jammed into the slot, now i receive literally 0 signal when the paperclip is taken out. The only time I can get signal is if I put any metallic object into that port. Has anyone else experienced this and found a fix? I assume I messed up the internal connection between the radio and the motherboard. Would soldering the connection back together solve this? I'm really in need of some advice as Samsung wants $160 to replace my phone and Sprint probably can't fix it at their shop. I'm stuck with this phone for another 7 months. Also, another problem I've been having lately which is even more annoying is now my phone will no longer place calls if I am connected to LTE. Normally the phone will shut off data when you goto make a call, but now it will no longer do so and the call will fail with "OUT OF SERVICE AREA". Also, I can receive texts, but when I try to reply to texts, it also fails unless I get on Wifi or I bump my phone down to 2g/3g (which also sucks). Please help This is literally the best I can explain my issues. I've tried different ROMs and I've even tried re-flashing stock back onto the phone and literally nothing works. I'm currently using the Google Play Edition Port and I've had better results with this than stock thus far, but if anyone has any ideas, please share them with me. Thanks!

The little buddy giving my phone signal...
Is it possible I just shorted out the Wifi/GSM Flex cable?? Should I try to buy the part and see if that fixes my problems?

Seems to be common among Samsung phones.
You most likely broke the port so it always thinks it is using the external antennas. If you do a few Google searches you will discover it has happened to a few people on different Samsung model phones.

From what I understand, you will need to either always have the paper clip in the phone to use it or ship it off to a repair center and have them replace the r1 port with a new one.
There doesn't seem to be a easy fix unfortunately...

well it seems the R1 port has actually fallen off...... this could be a good thing considering i may just be able to use some copper solder now.

Anyone can help me, my TyTN fall from my home stairs and I can't get signal after that.. I checked at the "Device Information" in the setting and it shows no Radio ROM.. so I try to install the radio ROM but im getting error during the installation.. I believe it is the hardware faulty and appreciate if anyone knows what is it and where can i get the replacement of the hardware..
FYI.. my TyTN can still be operated, its just cannot get the signal..
Thanking everyone's help in advance....
i'm not sure if you resolved the issue or not, but i'm selling an AT&T 8525. I'll sell it to you for $300 shipped as long as you live in the usa.
I'm not familiar with the insides of the phone, but there are a few options. 1, open it up and find out what's wrong. There could be a connector or circuit that broke and would only require minimal effort to fix. 2, find out if HTC can repair it for you through non-warrenty repair. 3, buy another phone online(like through ebay) that's only good for parts and use it for repairs.
Of course, if you don't feel up to opening it up, you could always find a friend or repair shop that might be willing to try.
ok one of these days i am going to write a book on how to re-attach antennas as the one in the TyTN is similar to the herm100 i presume
you cant miss it, its a big gold rod that slots into a V clip on the main board, a serious jolt could pop its loose, but it wont take much to pop back in, just be careful when you put the cover back on
Yep, there it is top left

And here it is disconnected.
However, I'm not convinced there is sufficient space available for that pin to disconnect while the casing is in place. My fear is a more destructive M/Board fault.
Mike
he could have shatterd the V clip off the board
It's more likely the golden connector from the picture got disconnected than that a board or chip broken. It would require the CASING to break in order for the board to break.
Open it up, take a chance. It's not so hard, just scary the first time.

We could take bets on what it is! No that wouldn't be fair would it
I agree it's worth opening up to check the connection. Depending on how hard the fall was it could be a variety of things. Don't agree that the motherboard can only crack if the casing breaks though - I've seen many examples of cracked m'boards and hardly a scratch on the case.
The OP seems to have disappeared anyway!
Mike
Thanks for the replies.. i've just been busy lately..
Will try your suggestion later to check the golden connector 'coz i've been opened it up many times already so its not a scary things to do for me...
will report back the results
hey again mates..
I already check on the golden connector and it seems fine.. everything is in contact and no physical crack was found or whatsoever...
I believe my TyTN is having the same problem with the one in this thread because I have similar symptoms like
1/ i can't flash radio back (the process hang in a middle of the flashing progress).
2/ there's no Radio & Protocol version in the "Settings->System->Device Information"
3/ no IMEI in the "Settings->System->Device Information"
Anyway, Is there a way to write the IMEI no. for the TyTN? maybe if there is an IMEI no. in the TyTN then can I flash the radio ROM.. i think.. and its worth trying (if possible) . or maybe its a hardware problem like in the thread above...
same wif my herm100 hard fall and no more signal
think tat is crack in gsm chips,u just look forward on gsm chips to replace ur old 1,then should be fine and work well ^^
took my phone apart to replace the digitizer and when re-assembling the housing, I pinched the cable to the sd card reader and now theres a hole in it and the phone constantly shows "removed sd card"
this is the part i need, its the pcb board thats in the "chin" of the phone.

Have you checked ebay for broken G1's? You might have better luck on there. Another thing I might try is calling tmobile and try to get someone who has authority to sell a broken G1, I'm sure they have a ton of them with all the people who brick there phones lol.
I have a G1 that I stole the mainboard from to replace a bad one. It was functioning, but had a cracked digitizer. I didnt really have an intention of selling pieces of it, but if I can recover the money I paid and help someone out at the same time, i would sell it. Sending PM....
gospeed.racer do you still have your g1's i need a long coaxil cable for the antenna not the little one the 80mm one if so can you email me a [email protected] thanks ill really appreciate it
Me too, lol.
The earpiece speaker is broken on my G1, I took it apart to see if it was a cable or anything like that but it didn't fix it. Id love to buy that part for $35 if anyone has that laying around. I'm not yet willing to buy a broken G1 for $50+ on ebay. PM me or txt / call 206.801.0359
Dan.
I sent you a PM. I have a friend that had a similar issue, the speaker was crackling. We actually were able to slide it in without disassembling the phone fully. The 3 screws for the lcd that you can get to were enough to gently flex it apart far enough too slip out the old speaker (they are double side taped in) and slip in the replacement. Tricky, but easier than opening the entire phone. Also, it is a good idea to clean the contacts while your in there- it is possible for the contact to get dirty and cause problems.
For the record, as soon as i get another phone to replace my MT3G, my g1 (my daugher is currently using) will be sold for parts. She'll get the MyTouch hand me down. I might be getting a cliq this weekend, so if anybody is interested PM. Id rather trade for any kind of QWERTY phone.
Its rooted, white with newer housing, the camera and gps dont work. Camera/gallery and other camera related apps force close.

well, sorry for being too late but my phone has the same problem and i searched around and found this site
globaldirectparts[dot]com/T-Mobile-G1-HTC-Dream-SD-Card-PCB-Board-p/htc730516.htm
but you will need to know how to put it in and have the tools to open your phone
So for some reason my USB has stopped working and i can no longer connect to a computer or charge the phone.
I've already purchased another phone so i'm trying to repair this one to use as a backup.
I took the phone apart and the USB port looks to be in tact without any problems, does not appear to have any loose connections or broken connectors.
I did find what looks like maybe some type of corrosion that may have seeped under the tape and bridged two connections on the board.
The phone works perfectly fine except for the USB port, as long as i use a charged battery the phone does everything is has been able to since i purchased it the day the EVOs came out.
So my question is, does anybody know a way to root with hboot 2.16 without using USB? The only method I found to root was the most recently beta released version located at http://revolutionary.io/ which requires a connection to the computer.
I found a possible fix for usb not working and in order to try it out i need to have a rooted phone.
Does anybody have any type of schematics for the EVO? Showing pin outs, etc?
Here's a picture of the section i'm most concerned about, so maybe i could possibly bridge the connection if for some reason it was damaged:

I'm pretty good with electronics and have no problem soldering connections, i do it all the time with traffic signal electronics. Just wondering if someone knows where a schematic or something would be?
Any ideas guys?
Please don't waste a post by telling me to file insurance claim, I did that already and already have a new phone, this phone i want to try and get working so i can have it as a backup in case something happens with my current phone.
Thanks for all the help in advance!
I wanna know the same thing my EVO will charge but won't connect to the pc for some reason.

Oddest thing! I came to the forum to post about the same problem. I just noticed that I cannot mount my phone to my computer anymore. I did not change ROMs or anything. It was working before.
It will charge but when I plug it in my computer says an unrecognized device is found and that's it. It won't install it and just gives me an error on the PC. This occurs on my desktop, netbook and work computer where I used to be able to mount.
Not sure about any schematics or is any exists for this certain occasion but with the problem you have there I'd say if your experienced enough you best getting brand new charger port from ebay rather then fixing that busted one. you can get a good OEM charger port for $5 on ebay
To everyone that says they can charge but no data connections via usb. We busted our ports somehow guys and girls... It's not aofwatre. Bootloading problem etc.. It's hardware. Known issue if I recall as well.
Also you should try to sand the corrosion with a fine grit if you can. Or maybe it was bridged and you fried something. Have you seen any burnt parts on the boars?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Is there an official post regarding this "known issue"???
Or is there a DIY fix for this? It is quite annoying to transfer files on and off my MicroSD without a USB connection.
No but I have heard people taking their phones in due to USB port issues and said that the people said it was a known issue. As I recall if you look into it you should find that there is alot of problems wiht people and USB port issues.
Yeah i still haven't been able to figure it out, got busy with work and didn't have time to mess with it until just now.
I'm going to order a new usb port and solder it on and see if that works.
I will update this thread with my results, should be in about a week.
had this same problem try a different usb cord that was my fix
I did not have this issue before change my charging socket.

Issiue:
My phone gets H/H+/3G mobile data so hardly.
Even if I inside a building it only gets "Edge" signal or non!
In a building with same phone and gsm op. others get 3G etc. but mine phone gets Edge.
I set APN, wipe cache, reboot etc.. Nothing changed.
PS: If I change WCDMA/GSM(auto) to Just WCDMA, I get H+,3G sometimes in a building but it turns to no service or no data at frequent intervals. Not stable to use..
Reads like you have damaged a component .

Which component you think?
I have seen reports where people used a cheap third-party USB replacement and the phone started to suffer charging, sync, and/or signal issues.
If the phone connects at 3g before the part change, install the old part and see what happens.

I don't have the old damaged part.
Otherwise phone connect the 3G but not everywhere. It doesn't connect in a building but connects out of the building or connects very normally at popular squares.
Is the signal worse with the new part? If it is, maybe buy another one and try? I got cheap one from Aliexpress and it worked very well for a Note 3 n900w8.

Signal is the same like first time no problem.
Simply it doesn't connect 3G or H/H+ in a building connect EDGE.
I guess the only way to know for sure would be to buy another replacement.
Anyone thinkin something else?
Thinking aerial .
Hello, I own the SM935W8 variant of the S7 Edge, bought directly from Samsung in Canada. Recently, I needed to do a capacitor/charge port replacement due to a torn ribbon cable. This is the module:

After restarting, I lost all LTE reception. I saw the LTE statusbar icon flicker a couple times with very low bars, then it disappeared, never to be seen again. It's been a couple weeks. It was working fine immediately before. I'm almost certain it's a hardware issue incurred upon disassembly/reassembly. My phone has been opened more than ten times, owing to screen and camera issues. Lots of little parts to remove, maybe something wore. I already tried reseating all the hardware. I'm going to buy replacement coaxial antennae cables, because I'm thinking I may have bent a pin in one of them. This is the part:
However, I have a variant where the antenna doesn't go like that. Instead of 3 cables (right side, red/white/blueish), I have only two (left side, blue/white, partially obscured by bottom black piece). Note the lack of third, uppermost coaxial cable. Not a lot of documentation on these differences. The cables come for sale in either groups of 2 or 3.
In case replacing these cables doesn't work, what could the problem be? Does anyone know of any hardware part that, if broken, would cause loss of 4G signal specifically?
How about this part? Some websites simply call these pieces "motherboard cover", but other websites call it "antenna":
See here for website referring to these three pieces as "antennae". They do contain some pseudocircuitry that looks like it could contribute to cell reception. Since they're not super expensive, and I had problems making them fit back together 100% immediately before I lost the signal, I wonder if I should just replace them all too?
The only other thing of note is that I stripped one of the 15+ screw holes battening down the 3 black cover/"antenna" pieces that go over the hardware, hence I'm operating without one screw. The only feasible way this could contribute to the problem is if a certain amount of tension is required to keep some metal contacts together. It seems unlikely, but that's another reason to replace the black pieces.
I really don't think it's software related, although I haven't yet tried a factory reset or different ROM, kernel, or modem. I did try to see if it has anything to do with the APN settings, but sadly it didn't. I wonder what else it could be? Thanks for any guidance.
