Forgive me if this is common knowledge and I missed the memo on it....
One thing I had to adjust when I went from my note 3 to the edge was the new approach to recent apps being used by the Left Capacitive button. Well, messing around just now I see that if you press and hold the button, it will pull up the current app's menu like it used to in the past. Best of both worlds!

I noticed that by holding the recent apps button down for 2 seconds you can actually get menue options on some older apps. I use Freedi for music and video downloads. I saw no 3 buttons at the top rigjt for optios and when I tapped the recent apps it well, took me to recent apps. I just masshed the button in (out of disgust) and lo and behold all the preferences and searxh features I thought werw gone showed up again. FTW!

Recent button worked as a menu by long pressing it since the Evo LTE lol. I believe all androids do it. It also works on G2 and G3's.

interesting. I got my edge here in Melbourne and as follows:
- pressing on the menu button brings up the recent apps
- long press, nothing happens but after releasing it still brings up the recent apps
- 2 clicks brings up the menu for the present app
wonder if there's another variation somewhere

Can anybody suggest a program that will allow me to minimize applications by tapping "OK", and also allow me to close them by holding the button? I used to use SmartKeys with my old Wizard, but I'm using a Herald now.
yep, search the forum for hbutton should be version 2.2 i think, allows you to assign up to 5 functions per button, the nice thing is that if you just want 1 button reassigned it won't screw with your other butons. when you install it i adds the ability to minimize or quit. so it will do exactly what you want. also can be set to vibrate or beep when the button is held down to signify that the second function is being run.
Just for knowledge quick menu 2.7 also allows telling the ok button to close apps.

for me Hbutton is working, just assign "OK/Close" to the OK button, that's it... (it's my 2nd Hbutton recommendation within 2 minutes today )
When you're using HTC Taskmanager with "End programs by tapping X" it's working great with Hbutton. Never tried without HTC's TaskManager

Thanks for the advice! However, will it allow me to tap OK button to minimize then tap and hold to CLOSE? I played with it before but it seemed like when I assigned "OK/Close" to the Ok button, a single tap CLOSED the application. Basically I want the two opptions on one button, and to never have to touch the X button ever again.

You have probably seen a lot of suggestions thus far but this is probably the easiest. HTCTaskManager does exactly what your looking for by default. A press minimizes and a press/hold closes.
Small foot print. Easy to use.
Curious G
1. do the headphones have a Mic? and if so, does it have button(s) on it to answer/end calls? can you do voice dialing with it?
i am currently using an IPhone 3GS where i can raise/lower volume, pause/play music and call people using voice control. just curious if the stock headphones can do all of this, or failing that if any aftermarket ones are available that provide these capabilities.
2. does any sort of Palm Pre styled application switcher exist? right now i can bring up this with a long press on the home button or spreading my fingers on the home screen, curious if this functionality is available on the N1/Android because it is extremely convenient.

In standard Android long press on home brings up a grid of the 6 most recent applications. Only icons though, no live view. And no closing apps from there.
Don't know an app like the one in your screenshot. I'd surely be interested if you or someone else finds / codes one.
1. N1's earphone does have a mic, you can next/play/previous music, and answer call. U cannot volume up or down using the earphone though. Voice cannot be activated using earphone, but you could hold the search button at home page to activate it
2. The app you show is just for the visual purpose. iphone does not have multitasking like Pre or Android, so why we need that fancy card slider anyway.
You can bring up the notification bar to switch between current opening apps

i knew about the long press on the home button from playing with the Android 2.1 Emulator. but i was hoping for something more aesthetically pleasing.
and yeah, the program in my screen shot is extremely convenient and aesthetically pleasing for switching programs. but i can imagine the pull down shade at the top of the N1 probably accomplishes all the same tasks...

are you sure voice search cannot be activated? nobody has added in this capability? that's unfortunate because it is really nice to use for making calls without removing the phone from your pocket. hell, with Google navigation you could probably use it for walking directions to somewhere as well.

my 3GS can Multitask, just poorly. even with the added ram (256MB) i can only run 2-3 applications at most before experiencing crashing since the apps were not designed with backgrounding in mind (for example, to play a basic game while running pandora i have to shut down Safari completely to free up enough ram for the other two programs..)
You can scroll through the running Activities/Tasks/processes with "AppSwipe".
Can be bound to a longpress on the search soft-button. Quite customizable too.
WHOLE EXPLANATION: So I notice that in devices like the galaxy s4 or Optimus G, in which they have a capacitive menu button, the 3-dot buitl-in menu in apps is not present (Obvious right?) but the thing is, in those devices, when you hit the hardware menu key, the menu appears on the bottom of the screen, whereas in the nexus 4 the menu appears on top of the 3-dot button wherever it is (the position of the in-app menu button depends on the app), this is annoying me since I have disabled the navbar to get more screen realstate and Im relying on gesture control, I set a swipe up gesture form the bottom of the screen for the menu, and its annoying because even without the navbar, the menus keep appearing on top of the freaking 3-dot button, I WANT THAT 3-DOT BUTTON GONE FROM MY APPS! just like in devices that have a hardware key for menu, that way menus would appear from the bottom of the screen on every app and my gesture would look awesome, kinda like in ubuntu touch, thats my goal.
MAIN QUESTION: How do I disable the freaking 3-dot in-app menu button? which files do I have to edit? Please I do not want to change my current rom for some other one that has this option built in... I just wanna know which files to edit, maybe in built.prop or something.
Thanks in Advance..

Rootbox ROM has this feature (and it is actually working), you should try that and see if it works for you
Pretty much you will have to rewrite most of the system to get it removed completely.

There's no way to do this unless you get another ROM. Try any of them though, a lot have the ability to add a soft key menu button at the bottom (AOKP for example).

If I accidentally long press my home button it opens the Google App. Is there anyway to disable this? I can't find it.
I think if you go into Applications and clear the defaults for the Google App it will stop that. The next time you long press it will ask you what you want it to do as the default. I don't recall what the options are after that.
Thx it was in applications but, the tab default applications. Than "app device support" than you can choose for Google App, svoice, grenify or none. Thx for guiding me to the right direction.

Ok I've done that, however now when I press and hold the home button nothing happens....I've also reset the Svoice defaults ?
The strange thing is whilst I'm connected to my Bluetooth car kit if I hold down the talk button it asks what to set as default, once S Voice is set I then try the home button but still nothing ?
Bump
I've managed to get S-Voice back, in case anyone else has the same issue this is what you do....

this then enables S-Voice and then you should see it under the Device assistance app setting

If your recents button is broken, how did you get to the recents screen shown in your attachment?
There's an app called HomeBot that will let you customize what a long press home button does, including showing Recents.

My Thoughts EXACTLY Juanito157! I just don't understand why the Hell these companies feel the need to "VIGOROUSLY FIX" SH!TE THAT ISN'T BROKEN!! And 9 times out of 10, they Remove or "Hide" options and widgets that were Just Perfectly Fine where they Freakin were to begin with. I Swear between my PC's, Android Devices, Gaming Systems and others like FireTV Box etc... I Must waste on average, at LEAST a Hour, Almost Every Damn Day, Just WATCHING & WAITING for UPDATES! It's getting really Outa Hand & Insane Lol.... Anyway's, So Sorry for the Rant, a little off topic... BUT YES, PLEASE Let us know if anyone has found a way to Revert or Change back to the way Google was before they HAD TO "FIX" IT ; ¤ }
I loved it because I could long press Home & "Force" Copy /Paste Info from almost anywhere, Even Screen Shot Pics. Now, If this feature is still available and I'm just being a Moron, Which is very possible, can someone Chime in and Help a guy out Please!
*** And I know that there are 3rd Party Apps that will do the "Copy Anywhere" thang... It was just NICE & CONVENIENT having the option built right into Google..

As the Bixby button cant be disabled anymore on Bixby 2.0, double tap and long press features are not available currently
Just pushed a new update which should be partially compatible with Note 9
Should be online soon.
Thanks for this.
As I haven't got the note 9 yet, can you or someone explain what we can and can't do?
Can we only remap to basic functions like camera and google assistant etc? Only single push remaps?

@Jawomo
Alright so I have the Note9 and I tested the latest version.
Jump to last app is broken.. it just does the endless looping between the last app and Bixby.
Also, every time you press the button for any action Bixby shows up for a split second and then the action is performed. I'm guessing this can't be changed..
That said, all other actions work fine. I haven't tested pro features as I haven't purchased the app and also the auto rotation since I'm not near a laptop right now with ADB.
Please, please, please I hope you get this working properly on the note 9! Would monetary donations make things any easier? I can't give up this app from my note8.

All we can do is send Samsung a complaint, that its not possible anymore to disable launching Bixby home with the Bixby button in Bixby settings.
Using Bixby voice on long press is ok, but its should still be possible to disable launching Bixby home on single pressing the button.
Theres always a way
Thank you very much for your great work.
BxActions is already updated. I can confirm that disabling the button work with using the app, although, you see the bixby home for less than a second. then it will take you out of it. I hope that you will be able to totally hide bixby home, I don't want to see it at all.
Also, the app is not yet fully functional. I hope it will get better.

Samsung should at least give us back the option to disable the button.

Bixby voice is needed for remapping to work.
If you disable it you will kill the button completely.
