hey guys,
I have just gotten my phone back from repair. It was getting the cracked lCD replaced.
So i went and put my SIM card into the SIM slot then i rebooted my phone, just to see a "No SIM" message which then proceeded to say "Insert SIM card". My wifi and everything is working and i can make emergency calls. I have previously had problems with my EFS folder and a corrupt IMEI but i fixed that issue and i don't believe that these two incidents are related whatsoever.
This is the thread with all of the information of my last problem. http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s5/help/service-t2898890
To try and solve this new problem, i have done the following:
1. Taken the sim card out and restarted phone and entered the sim card back in numerous times in various different sequences.
2. Done a full factory reset, reflashed a new rom, modem and bootloader.
3. Restored the EFS folder.
4. Tried a different SIM card.
This could be a hardware issue, but i feel as though it is software related, but i am no genius so i am open to any suggestions as to what it may be and how i may be able to fix it. If i am not able to fix it i will just send it back to the phone repairers and see what they can do to resolve the problem, but that would be the last thing i want to do.
thanks for any help.
not to worry. I have now solved the problem and everything is working perfectly.

i was on android 4.4.2 thouchwiz, i then upgraded to android 5, which also meant i had to upgrade the modem, which seemed to fix the problem. I then downgraded back down to android 4.4.2 touchwiz and that solved the problem.
so maybe you could try upgrading your modem or something? let me know if that works.

By modem do you mean radio?
It's an unrooted phone in my case, unfortunately.
the modem is a file or software i guess you could say in which controls the the signal on your phone.
hmmmm, im not sure what you could do then... im guessing you do not plan on rooting either?

Hi everyone,
I messed a bit with my d802 and finally i used the lg support tool to get it back to stock, but now it can't read my sim card all of a sudden (no sim card inserted).
So the question is where are the sim card files, in the kernel or the rom or the baseband ? and how to get them back so it reads my sim card.
I'd be happy to bring you more info on the problem.
Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem, reflashing the 10B firmware then upgrading to the OTA 12A fixed the issue.

Did you sort this?
If not try this
Power OFF the phone. Remove the SIM card completely for at least 1 minute.
Re-insert the SIM card, Power ON.
If it works, I'll tell you why...

OK - good. This is a fairly common "problem" when making significant ROM changes - but doesn't always happen.
In basic terms...
When the phone is powered OFF, it isn't actually completely OFF. Some "parts" are still powered. The SIM card and its register are "parts" that remains powered and the register is sometimes overwritten when a ROM is flashed. This means when the new ROM boots, the SIM card and the register are different, hence no network as the phone assumes a fault.
The SIM card needs to be removed with the power off (NEVER with it on) so the phone detects a SIM swap and the register is refreshed.
TIP: Before flashing a new ROM - always remove the SIM card (with the Power OFF).

I had the same problem and it worked fine for me, thank you.
Hey, anyone else with this problem?
My g2 suddenly stopped to recognize my sim card.... everything else works properly...
Should i format the phone? Or it would be a hardware problem?

I also tried to put the following codes i.e. for IMEI *#06# and for SIM Unlock menu 2945#*320# which didn't work too.
I also did factory reset many times with sim and without sim.
Tried to do rooting throguh Towelroot and Stumproot but no success.

Unfortunately I don't have a solution yet, but I wanted to point out that I am in the same situation ATM. German lg g2 though. Please any new input would be highly appreciated.
Issue Resolved
Hi I took the phone to the android expert in mobile market in my area SADDAR AREA-RAWALPINDI CITY-PAKISTAN. Where he highlighted that the ROM, Baseband and Radios where not compatible as well as my phone had some EEPROM problem as well. So he hooked a small box like USB device and pushed the ROM into it via OTG along with the new stock ROM. Now my phone is working perfectly fine and I am more than happy and thankful to the expert. My current stock ROM is lollipop version: 5.0.1

I know this thread is hella old but, I stumbled upon this (after returning to the G2 temprorarliy - had it back in 2013/14) after restoring a stock LG ROM backup and it wasn't recognizing my SIM card. Anyways, this method worked for me to get the phone to recognize my SIM. Thanks for posting this.

Hi,
I have a Canadian Samsung Galaxy S4 (SGH_I337M) that works fine on any SIM that is not on a data plan (voice only) but will not find any SIM that has data plan! I even installed CM11 and still have the same issue. I donwgraded to 4.2.2 and the same issue happens. I unlocked it and tried it but still have the same problem!
I hope anyone can help.
This sounds like a hardware issue since it happens regardless of what ROM you have installed. The SIM card slot may need to be replaced, which is actually fairly easy to do. If you still have a warranty, bring the phone in for service.
I think u shoold be reflash the modem
Reflashing the modem certainly won't hurt. However, it may not help as he has flashed two different versions of Android with the same outcome.

This is a Koodo device, any recommendation for a modem. I currently have cm11 flashed.
Dial *#1234# and write down what appears on the screen.
EDIT: I just noticed you had CyanogenMod installed. You'll have to go to Sammobile, find your firmware, download it, then extract the modem from the tar md5 file.
So for ages i was getting no sim card inserted on my I9505 and figured it was a hardware problem as it would work sometimes if i pushed the tray really hard and so i replaced the sim card tray and all was working for a few days. I then decided to flash a new rom and straight after the flash all im getting is no sim card inserted.
Ive used odin to flash the stock firmware but still get the message. Ive used the airplane trick also with no luck.
Im totally convinced its a software problem because it happened instantly after a flash and ive only recently replaced the sim reader.
Any help would be appreciated.
hii , i guess you have imei problem , chech for #06# if your email code match the one below the battry.

It was AntaresOne & Alucard24's cm12 build. I tried flashing the latest modem and obviously when i went back to stock using Odin an older modem but correct one was installed.
Anyhow, i actually believe it was a hardware problem again. I think that when flashing a new ROM it gets very hot and this can cause problems with the Sim reader. So i took apart the phone and basically used some duct tape to make sure the pop connector thingy is securely pushed down and also the Sim tray. It seems to be working so far.
I will flash a ROM just to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Didnt had problems so far.
Sent from my SM-N910S using XDA Free mobile app
Hi all,
My SM-G935F is not rooted and it has been bought network unlocked.
Yesterday I was browsing normally in 4G, the device became very slow and suddenly a message popped up "please insert SIM card". I have done the normal procedures of restarting and wiping cache partition which did not solve the problem.
In the meantime, I have tried the SIM on another device and it has worked properly.
I've noticed that the fields IMEI and IMEI DV are displayed as "Unknown".
I have searched for solutions but, because my phone is not rooted I'm not sure whether it applies to my case. Please note that I've made no change that could cause this issue, it has simply happened.
What could be causing this?
Try to reinstall the stock via odin. Maybe that will solve your problem. If not, it may be a hardware problem.

Thanks. I have installed latest firmware via ODIN successfully. However it did not solve the problem.
Baseband is also displayed as unknown.
If it is an hardware issue,is it repairable?

99% of the time, its a mobo replacement for this issue if it ends up being hardware related, and if a mobo replacement doesnt fix your issue, not much else will. Might as well strap it to a missile if a mobo swap doesnt fix it
SOLVED
Right, the problem has been solved for now.
I have taken multiple steps which have got me confused TBH, but I will try to recall them in detail:
(please note that before these steps I have attempted to flash latest firmware G935FXXS7ETA4 at least 3 times without CSC home before rooting)
1. I have rooted with CF Auto Root hero2lte
2. I have copied EFS, radio and nv_data.bin to a safe location in my PC.
3. Used latest TWRP flash.
4. Flashed latest firmware G935FXXS7ETA4 with Home CSC and that did not work.
5. Flashed latest firmware G935FXXS7ETA4 CSC only and after restarting a message popped up informing that the single SIM mode had been switched to DUAL SIM mode, and network signal was back on.
6. I have installed the app "phone info" which now indicates baseband version and original IMEI. Happy days!
Notes:
On the phone info app I get the following information displayed
Device Type:
hero2lite
Product Name:
hero2ltexx
Is it possible to change this back to the original name?
UPDATE
UPDATE
- Sometimes it switches from 4G to 3G ("E" symbol). 4G comes back on if I restart on safe mode.
- It disconnects from the network randomly, then it comes back on.
- Everything else works perfectly fine.
This is clearly an intermittent issue, could it be the modem hardware failing?
Hi everyone.
I have a problem with a Samsung S4 GT-I9505 which I bought as used. The phone came with stock rom, and with baseband I9505XXUHOJ2.
Then I updated it to the latest stock rom for my country, which is I9505XXUHPK2-ITV, with Odin. After reboot and factory wipe everything, the phone info shows build LRX22C.I9505XXUHPK2, but baseband is still I9505XXUHOJ2, which according to letter coding, should be previous.
This phone does not register SIM, nor see the SDCARD. Thinking it was damaged, I even changed the sdcard+sim slot with a new one, without success. I suppose the baseband may be the cause of missed SIM registration to the network.
What do you think is preventing the baseband to be updated? I'm out of clues
Never mind. I finally updated baseband reiterating Combined Modem+NON_HLOS flashing. However I did not solve the problem with SDCARD and SIM

Hello,
Check my S4 Unified Collection & Guides and follow the steps of the Guide Clean Install Official Stock ROM.
Sir, I followed your guide step by step. Now I have Stock-rom XXUHQK1, and the same for the baseband.
Unfortunately, the SIM and SDCard is not detected. I think it's an hardware issue. I have other S4 I9505 phones and they behave differently than this one.

If that is the case, it's relatively easy to replace the SIM card tray, provided the part is still available for purchase from Amazon or similar sites.

As I said in the first message, thinking it was damaged, I even changed the sdcard+sim card tray with a new one, without success. So the problem is not the card tray afaik.
When you swapped out the tray did you transfer to the new part the foam pad that sits atop the connection to the motherboard? If you didn't do that, you will have problems, especially the SIM not being recognized.
However, the foam doesn't result in an immediate disconnect but a gradual one. So, we have a few different possibilities here.
1. The SIM itself is damaged.
2. The device was unlocked by its previous owner using a service menu exploit, and when you restored the firmware you wiped the exploit.
3. The EFS partition is corrupted or lost.
The first can be easily tested.
The second? I ran into this exact issue myself: at the same time my SIM tray failed, which made resolving things challenging. It can be remedied by downgrading to an Android 4.2.2 ROM and running RegionLock Away by Chainfire.
The third? That one only Samsung can help with, as the EFS partition stores the IMEI and NV RAM of the S4, and unless you ran Wanam Partition Backup beforehand, there's no way to restore it.
With the premise that my problem is not limited to the SIM, but involves also the SD Card which is not detected when inserted, let me reply to your points:
1) The SIM is good and valid, as it registers to the network in another S4 I9505 which is fully operational
3) Before upgrading, I installed TWRP and made a backup of EFS partition. After checking the new EFS partition with the old, there are no differences beside a few bytes here and there, however nothing which reminds me an IMEI (they seem more like file date updates in filesystem)
2) Can you be more specific here, I never heard of this before. The previous owner, once contacted said he used this phone as daily driver until 2018. He live in my same country, and the stock firmware should have nothing locked or needing an exploit. Again, provided this would prevent SIM from registering, do you think this could also influence SD Card too?
I'm more and more concerned that the problem is hardware related. Pressing the SDCard slot connector to the mainboard, like other users have reported successfully, didn't change anything. Maybe the mainboard isn't giving the SDCard slot the correct powerage. I have seen on eBay other mainboards sold as not working with this very same defect, wifi working and SIM not registering.
