Note 4 Root - Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, do you guys recommend me to root my note 4? I know it will trip knox, but I don't seem to have any problems with my note 4, so I don't mind if the warranty is gone. (Prefer some advice from users who rooted the note 4)
Cheers

root it.. you are on a xda forum, what do you think the answer would be?

why you wanna root ? do ya need some apps/mods that wont work unless your device is rooted ?if not , then keep it stock and dont mess with it.
you have answer not XDA members/devs

I rooted mine, after thinking about it for 2 weeks.
I have since removed alot of the bloatware, installed Xposed - Wanam, and the phone is flying. Some of the annoying Touchwiz stuff is gone.
Unless there is a stable CM rom, I won't be flashing custom recovery.
If you are fine with the phone as it is, no need to root.

[Q] Is it worth rooting the Galaxy Note 3?

Ok so I live in Canada, and I plan on buying an unlocked Galaxy Note 3 from Rogers in December. I currently have a Galaxy S3 and it is rooted no triangle on boot or anything like that, so I am happy with my GS3 for now. Is it worth rooting the Note 3 when I get it? Will a giant orange triangle appear everytime I reboot the device? I plan on waiting about a month before I root it, if I do root it. I am not to worried about my warranty as I have never had to use a warranty on a phone before.
You wont see anything other than your model number & samsung logo during booting but you'll see some sort of knox warranty void 0x1 in download mode which means your phone is using custom kernel.
Whether it's worth to root or not i think it depends on you. Myself root my phone on the first day i own it after make sure i dont need the warranty. I dont care about the knox 0x1. Just cant stand with the stock look.

AdFree is a must for me on any phone I own, I was more worried about having a giant orange triangle on the Samsung splash screen like other devices. Or knox doing something to the phone after I rooted it.
rooting has been worthwhile for me
Titanium Backup is awesome in getting rid of the bloatware
Greenify is great in making sure apps do not stay awake
Xposed Framework is awesome in installing modules that add much functionality
-Instagram Photo Download
-Wanam Xposed
-Xposed Additions (Longpress Back to Open Recent Apps, etc)
Cheating in games with game killer can't be done without root.
And since I spent $5 of real money, and you can't transfer the credits over to my new phone, I'm going to cheat.
So if you feel like I do, and feel cheated, cheat yourself the money with game killer and get root.

This. I rooted and xposed my note to change the colour scheme but even if you like Everyrhing about touchwiz, it is worth it to be able to use any app in multiwindow.
Rooting
Iam just scared about the flash counter
Not rooted as I can get the look and feel using nova or apex. Rooted my SGN2 but missed some of the special samsung stuff.
May change when there is a stable 4.4 if samsung take their time. Just my 2c

Don't believe everything you read. It's amazing how speculation and rumors turn into "fact" in this forum...especially if it's negative.
I recommend that people do their own, in depth research and them make an educated decision.
if u r not worried about warranty
if u r not worried about warranty it is always better to root cos you get so much more options to play around with which you wouldnt have otherwise
Depends what you want to do, Do you need root? - Do you need to remove apps? - Like choosing something, it's all personal preference... If you need root then root your phone, If you can live without it and don't need it. Then don't.
I still haven't rooted mine.
rooted mine from day 1 too. Mostly for my sixaxis app, controller support for my games
OT: plus i think it is worth it; with root you can get another, better and more optimized, rom.
I still believe if you have to ask you don't need it....

Agreed. I have always rooted my devices but take my time to read with each new device since they're all a bit different. I'm curious if I root with the knox free setting if I can revert fully to stock or only fake non custom status. What's the best method to use for Canadian variant of note 3?

Have reverted back to fully official once stock rom was flashed. Only modified status when rooted as you can't run the fake "official" status as wanam needs root priveleges...

:good:
Just to confirm, I can use Root de la Vega and enjoy all the benefits of rooting without tripping KNOX, but can still reflash (via odin?) the stock rom and be back to factory/warranty settings with STOCK STATUS? That's all I'm interested in at this point, no custom roms or recoveries.
Thanks again for your help! I am just extra cautious :fingers-crossed:

yes you just have to unroot using the supersu itself, then flash your stock rom with odin, factory reset. everything will be stock new. even status will revert from custom to official.

[Q] Knox Security

I hope I'm in the right place for this and it hasen't already been covered. I rooted my Verizon Galaxy Note 3 the other day and after root installed TB and SuperSu. I'm think as I was installing SuperSu, may have been TB, it asked if I wanted to disable Knox Security. Just wondering if any VGN3 users who have root have seen this? I haven't tripped Knox yet and wondering if it could still happen. I've installed Safestrap and everything seems fine so far. Still hunting the best Rom to install along side the stock 4.3. All suggestions as far as new Rom are welcome along with any input on this post. THANKS!

The disable Knox message is totally normal. By not disabling Knox you will most likely get Knox warnings when running root programs. Just let SU disable it, all will be fine. As for 4.3 ROMs Eclipse is AOSP styled and great on the battery, Baja ROM and Hyperdrive are the most customizable. it really depends what you want out of your ROM.
Many Thanks!

Thanks for getting back on this. I did let SU disable it and I'm feeling better after hearing from someone else. This is the first phone I've had to deal with Knox. I started with the first Droid Inc then moved to the Galaxy Nexus and now I'm playing with the Note 3. Gotta say I really love this phone. Hate the carrier but it's paid for so I'm kinda there. As far as roms go Hyperdrive is one I've been looking at and I'm sure to be checking out your other suggestions.

Should i root my Note 4?

I was wondering if i should root my n910f
Maybe to improve battery life? Or something else
Can anyone convience me here to root it?
I got it for 2-3months now.
What does the knox counter do? Will i be able to have it official again?

Personally I can't use an android phone without rooting it, no more!
Why? Because with the root privilege I can make my phone really mine.
How? Choosing which apps I want to keep and which not; removing all the hardly hated ads; boosting the performance of the phone and improving battery life with custom roms and kernels; backing up all my apps and mods with a custom recovery like that if I messed up I don't have to start again from the beginning..
About knox you can find useful information in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2478391
I'm not rooting mine anymore because I need to use banking apps.

Ask yourself
Why you want to root?
If you find some reason then search
Does these can be solved by rooting?
If yes
think - do you afford to lose warranty for these reasons?
If yes- Root

Galaxy S4[i9500] Rooted 5.0.1 Stock Rom with no Knox. Is there such thing?

Hi
Im looking a stock rom 5.0.1 for my Galaxy S4 i9500 which is rooted and without knox.
Can someone recommend such rom?
Alternatively, is there a way to install 5.0.1 root without tripping knox?
All Android 5.0.1 ROMs from Samsung come with Knox, without exception. It's not possible to root these ROMs without tripping Knox.
Ok but there are roms that de-knoxed.

Whilst reading through the PingPong root post under the s6 section the guys referred to a rooting app called kingroot, which can be used for other phones. Have seen some people with some success on other phone makes and also some with no success. Then some people complain that the app asks for many permissions, but at the end of the day its a choice you must make.
I tried the app which should be a one click type root, but when launching it is shows a icon with a lightning bolt next to it with Chinese text I cant read. So I dont know what the issue is with it. Im running lollipop which I understand this app "should" be able to root.
@dbenyakar: Custom ROMs do come de-Knoxed. However, you asked about stock ROMs. Moving the goalposts just a bit?
@Hhunted: Kingoroot I don't believe works on Android 5.x. CF-AutoRoot, if I recall correctly, is the only root method available for devices on Android 5.x, and it will trip Knox.
Ok then I will rephrase my question. Is there a custom rom, 5.0.x, which is as close as possible to stock that is rooted and de-knoxed?
The reason Im asking is because I see many roms that are heavily customized with s6 or note4 ports but with bugs in the basic functionlity such as FCs when trying to make calls etc.
Why not making a simple rom which will be as close as possible to stock first and if stable then try all other customizations.

Probably not, because what you ask for can be accomplished after rooting using tools that strip the unwanted files out or manually with the aid of a list of apps that can be safely removed.

[Q] Several questions before rooting SM-N910G

Hello, I'm not completely new to rooting but the last device I have rooted is the first Samsung Note. So, I'm not sure if anything has changed thus, I'm here to ask the experts some questions before I move on. My current device is, SM-N910G with stock Lollipop.
I'll be installing TWRP as the custom recovery and will be doing a backup immediately. My plan is to run CM12 as daily driver. So, I would like to know is CM12 ready as a daily driver use and if anything goes wrong, can I restore to my backup like the way is it with everything intact and application settings all in place? (I understand that CM12 is still a nightly thing but I don't intend to flash it every night for the update, maybe once per week.)
I researched and found out that Xposed isn't quite steady yet but how limited am I in terms of customizations using the good old xposed modules?
Any other good roms to recommend besides CM12? Been reading in XDA about SimpleROM, CMRemix, etc but only CM12 seems the nicest to me, IMO. Although, I understand the limit in S-Pen functions and multi-windows stuffs.
Is there any other way to un-root and go back completely stock besides using Odin to flash back the firmware? (KNOX will always be tripped, ye? Sammobile is giving me a hard time to download the stock firmware but they're still awesome nevertheless so is there any other site that I can download from?)
TBH, I'm still deciding whether to stick to stock or going away. It'll trip KNOX however my warranty isn't done till Oct and I'm not sure if my local store does care about KNOX or not. Is there any way that you can convince me further to go away and root my Note 4? (I'm into backing up my entire OS, use Greenify and Amplify to increase battery life, AcDisplay modules to remove the home button unlock, customizations that Nova can't do, etc. So are they worth it to root?)
Lastly, pardon me for the long post and hyper paranoid questions.
Thank you for any replies.
