Do Nexus 6 Androids DayDream of electric sheep? - Nexus 6 General

Between the DayDream function and Live Wallpaper, it would be cool to have an app that let the Nexus-6 bounce robotic sheep, spiders, unicorns, etc around the screen.

hey nexus ONE owners...why do you stay with the Nexus one? i

just wondering. i can pick one up locally. brand new, for 250.
why do you guys stay with the nexus since it is not made any longer and what do you love about it?
also..hows the battery life compated to a galexyS phone? ( i have the vibrant)
Personally it's because newer devices haven't offered me anything which I really want/need. I am tempted to go with a HC tablet which will give me access to Tegra2 specific apps/games which is all I feel I'm missing when comparing the N1 to newer handsets. It also runs CM (Never mind the plethora of other ROMs) and trackball alert really is hard to beat once you get used to it
i had one right when it came out. there were no roms really yet for it and it was on 2.1 i think...i cant remember how "fast" it was..i do remember i liked the screen, but im concered about battery life..
i LOVED how thin the phoen was...

I get great battery life but it will obviously depend on the user. A combo of setcpu and a decent kernel will definitely help extend the battery. I found that ROMs really kicked off when Froyo hit. Although it has slowed over the past few months the N1 still has great support, especially considering it's nearly 18 months old.

because no other device so far has the same build quality, materials, sexy work-of-art look and feel of the nexus one. plus no other phone has color trackball alert to set ANY notification to ANY color you want. just glance at my phone, blue-new twitter, red-new gmail, yellow-missed call, etc. that is just a necessity once you have it, and not a single other phone is coming out with even a regular notification light, let alone colored.
plus the nexus one is the size of perfection, not so big monsters like these other phones lately. and it still has the amoled screen, not great in the sun, and not as good as super amoled, but all the same indoors.
i just cant find something to replace my nexus one with

would you consider the screen the same as like a galexy S phone? crisp/sharpness wise?
i am a HUGE rom flasher, so i think i would benefit from a phone like the N1

it IS in fact teh same screen as the galaxy s, both screens are from samsung. both screens use the same pentile matrix pixel layout. the only difference is the galaxy s has super amoled which means the touch layer and glass layer is merged together to produce thinner glass area. the nexus one has the traditional tiny gap. indoors booth look nearly the same (nexus one is sharper because same resolution but 3.7 inch screen. the galaxy s pixels are more visible). outdoors in sunshine is where the galaxy s might be easier to see the screen.
also, not a single other android device exists that has the desk top dock and car dock. that makes the nexus one the full package that no other android device has.
of course the nexus one has the touch screen bug, cant do more than 2 finger inputs, and has the glitch issue. so its a tough call to buy it now. since its probably only 200 dollars i'd say its a no brainer. but not 500 dollars lol.

Every now and than (1-2 times a day for me) the screen calibration gets borked. So if you touch one spot it reads a few mm away sometimes it thinks your touching the soft keys. The way to "fix" the issue is to shut off the screen than wake it up again.
Thats the only issue I've had. Personally waiting for the HTC Sensation or the next Nexus variant to upgrade.
Free (so far) wireless tethering.
Although I am looking at upgrading to the HTC Sensation 4G when it comes out in June.
I love the n1 because it can do everything i use it for and its still a very responsive phone. I pay 15$ for a grandfathered unlimited data plan from att so until theres a superphone available that can do all mine can do plus more and on att(since im not interested in changing cell providers) then im not really in the new phone market.
i use mine for internet access on the road for work like a the airport for instance.
reference for research for anything and everywhere.
navigation for work and play
music streaming from my home pc with subsonic(fantastic app)
music playing locally while in the car
music music music
reminders and email for work
communication with co-workers and friends via trillian on msn/gtalk/aim/facebook
timewaster and newsreader for my google reader feeds
i dont play many games but the ones i do work decent enough
only drawbacks i see with it is the multitouch, like others have said it will think youre touching the bottom menu buttons for some reason, usually i run into this after i had docked it and undocked it or it had been charging. you can kind of reproduce it if youre movinga touch point in the top left of the screen and then tap towards the lower to mid-right. if you have a multi-touch test app you will see it thinking your finger drops straight down. you get used to it though, i dont mind it too much anymore. being able to rotate the map would be nice like on the vibrant but the two finger perpendicular slide to rotate isnt so bad. I still love my n1 a lot more than my girlfriend's vibrant which is tainted by the samsung ui overlay nonsense. give me aosp or give me death.

the glitch is every once in a while the screen thinks you touched a different spot. this happens about once a week for me, mostly less than that. its easy to fix, just lock the phone then swipe to unlock, the issue goes away for another week lol. but it IS a hardware issue that can never be fixed, so we just live with it.
other than that i think the screen is just fine for responsive. probably not the best in the world, but its good to me. touch a spot and it registers immediately.
I love my sexy nexyyyyyy!!!! I like trackball that's why i keep my N1.

It's a great Developer device for those who like Flashing!
I'm keeping mine for now to see what the Pyramid looks like when released...
I can get a brand new one unopened for 250 in town....
As a vibrant, vibrant 4g, n1 owner ...the build quality of the n1 is awesome. Just tits when compared to plastics.

2) Lighted Trackball - it's a lifesaver during meetings!
3) Incredibly pocket-able..thin/light/resilient
4) It's unique - and it's not a Samsung/Moto device!
XDA is no longer worth my time.

[Q] Static image screen burn in issues with GS4?

I have fallen in love with the Dashclock Widget. If you haven't tried it yet, I'd try it and see if you like it. It's very elegant and informational.
With that said, the widget integrates well with the "Day Dream" function. Basically, you can set it as something of a screensaver to scroll info about your phone throughout the day. I would like to be able to set day dream to "Static", which means I have the white text clock on a black background all day while charging at work. I would also have this set next to my bed as a faux alarm clock.
I have an older 2007 Plasma TV with a burned in ESPN scroll bar because I left the screen on a static image for too long. I would like for that NOT to happen with my new GS4.
Is there any chance of screen burn in with the GS4? I know the AMOLED is a much newer tech than the plasmas of old, but you can never be too sure.
Thanks! :good:
Yes. It will burn over time. It won't be as aggressive as a LCD or plasma screen, but it still burns. You should never leave your screen on with a black background and white text for hours. You should also not be charging it all the time as it appears that you want to. Charging produces heat, heat accelerates the burn. You should only charge the phone when it needs it.

Thanks for the information!
Do you think turning the brightness to minimum would mitigate, or slow down, burn in issues?
There is also a "fade" option on day dream that fades the clock in and out every minute or so and places it on a new part of the screen. I think I'll stick to that for now.
Also, thanks for the charging tips. :good:
It will slow it down. But even with that you are looking at significant screen burn in about 6 to 8 months. Having a low screen brightness with the fade/ movement will be your best option.

How useful are the "Edge" features?

I am considering buying the Note 7 and it seems to share the edge features that this phone has. I was wondering what people think of the features, what the most useful ones are, pros/cons to the curved screen, etc. Basically anything you would have wanted to know ahead of time that you now know. Thanks in advance!

It's really a gimmick. I hardly use it, but it does have some conveniences in being a shortcut to access apps and contacts. The curved screen display is definitely for looks and all of that.
Good choice on going to the Note 7. It's the phone I think I would want everything in, but I'm content with my S7 Edge. I jumped shipped to getting mine when it was the time of buy one, get one free. So it was great.
I find the edge screen mostly a gimmick too. I tried it for a short time for the quick contacts but find it just as east to open the contacts at the bottom of the screen. I just disable them now. The curved display is OK but it really limits your choice of screen protectors to the film type like Zagg and cases that will not interfere with them. This has been the most difficult phone when it comes to the screen protector staying on 100%. I much prefer a flat screen with tempered glass. Even with that con I'm happy with this one. If I didn't already have the Edge I would definitely buy the Note 7 regardless of the curved screen just because it's a nice phone.
I use it often for the Milk Music and Compass functions. Beats having to tap an icon on the screen to get to them when swiping from the side is so much easier.
Yeah i agree with misterxtc, i cant find a glass screen protector for this phone, this phone definitely needs a case which really limits the screen protector you can use. From what i have been reading most cases do not offer enough protection (edge screen), i went with the supcase unicorn beetle full body rugged and i have dropped my phone a few times luckily no cracks yet . I would say go with the note 7, i am still trying to figure out how the edge lighting and a few other notifications work.
I really only use the apps edge. It's useful for bringing up the calculator, calendar, clock, gmail, messaging, etc. when in another app. Sure beats pressing home and scrolling through the app drawer or homescreens.
Not gimmicky imo. Between the Good Lock app adding up to 18 apps on the recent screen and using a 2 edge apps, Widget Edge for a few widgets, and Tasks Edge for contact shortcuts, I don't use a home screen any more. It took me a little while to figure out how to use the edge screen, but once I did, I like it quite a lot.
I use it for the night clock.

My view & photoshopped pic of what Pixel devices should have been

Going from being a Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 6, & Nexus 5x user, this is my feeling of what Google had to do to knock it out of the park....At this point I won't buy it unless the price drops a lot. For now I'm sticking with my Nexus 6. If it dies, I'll probably buy a Nexus 6P and load some XDA roms.
Attached is an image I photoshopped of how I wish the bezels looked and a possible option for a qi charger that would have had a panel to allow for Qi, because I think the aluminum cases interfere with Qi? But just an idea and venting...

IMO ugly sorry. Pixels official design wins who cares if it looks like an iphone remotely. Haters got 2 hate then dont get 1
I would hate the OPs design. I already think the bottom bezel is too small on my 6P to comfortably touch the navigation buttons (I have big hands, long fingers).
Your design would be even worse in that regard.

That looks like possibly a better fit for many....
You can't have the top speaker and camera in the same spot unless you want a massive bump on the back.
Front looks cool but the back looks terrible imho. Also what is the huge obsession with Qi charging? I used it with my nexus 4 and it was slow/gimmick at best. I got over it fairly quickly. The new rapid charging standard seems way better. I know google might be embellishing on the claim of 7 hours of battery in 15 mins but even if its close to this in real life I'm with it.
Insanely ugly

You also have to design it with the insides in mind. you can't cram 200+ features into a phone and expect it to have a low profile.
Try this out. Notification on rear glass only active when face down. Slightly slimmer bezels (OP was too aggressive). And of course the pixel light bar.
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk
I like your idea of a Pixel light bar like the Pixel C has. It does somewhat waste battery, but it gives it a unique identity like a glowing Apple logo.
I will play too. Nothing too drastic, though. I like the phone as is.
1. I added a second speaker grille. I pushed both of them to the edge (similar to the old M9 prototype that never came to be).
2. I put the pixel light bar in the top speaker grille.
3. Shortened the chin.
4. Shortened the glass on the back. Gave it a bit more character.

Would have been awesome to have a smaller, shorter version of that light bar on the center of the bottom bezel and have it blend into the bezel to be unseen when not lit up like the the Nexus 4 notification light. Then have each color light up sequentially when you get notification and have it move to the Google Assistant voice, Knight Rider style.

Liquid Live Wallpaper

Other than the video loops. Any ideas for interactive liquid live wallpapers. Doesn't have to be the iPhone ones but something like that.
Pixel 3 wallpapers along with Google wallpapers app has a few that are interactive. Look on apkmirror.com for the pixel 3 wallpapers or pixel wallpapers 2018.
I believe Splash by Jozsef Barat on the Play Store might be what you're looking for

With each phone and the complexities of the displays .. only gets better each time.
Does anyone know of an app that adds a liquid effect to whatever background you already have set? I'm sure I had it at one time but can't seem to find it... I had my own custom wallpaper and, when you'd swipe or touch the homescreen, it would make a ripple effect like the screen was submerged just under the surface.
Man, I would love to have that again! Everyone who saw it thought it was a pretty awesome effect.
