[Q] Lollipop compatibility - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I wish to ask that the new firmware that has been released in Poland for Galaxy s5 sm-g900f. Is it compatible with my sm-g900f in South Africa? Can I load this firmware on my device and will it work. Or will it give me trouble?

If it's the same model number, yes it is. Though you may want to be careful, because like flashing any firmwares from other regions, there is a risk that you may lose your IMEI.

Call bs on that. Never happened to me, and I've flashed hundreds of times. But if you still want to scare him for no good reason you might as well link to an imei backup app instead of being a waste of space. "being alive holds the risk of diyng" same bs

You said you flashed hundreds of times? From what Galaxy Phones did you do that? I know what Im talking about because I am a flashaholic since the days of the Galaxy S GT-i9000 back in 2011. Flashing a firmware always carries a risk. Consider yourself lucky if for those hundreds of firmware flash you've never encountered a single null IMEI, Bootloop and Softbrick.

null imei and bootloop/softbrick are completely different things. if you always carefully follow the proper procedure there shouldn't be any problems. people with imei problems usually rush into things and miss one or several of the needed steps. i've had tons of bootloops and softbricks and even hardbricks which i've fixed, been flashing since motorola razr v3i

im just a little worried if anything could go wrong. i mean i have backed up everything... EFS, nandroid backup etc.
So worst case scenario it just wont boot yeh? i can install a G900F stock rom back on through odin and everything will be ok?
You will never know mate. The worst case is your device will be bricked ? it all depends on your nerve mate. There are still chances you could restore your bricked phone to normal by using odin, make sure you have a back up of your stock rom
My advice is to use custom rom

only thing that is pissing me off is that I think my handset got shipped with a faulty gps module and now that my knox counter is 1 my warranty is void. so basically everything on my phone works except for gps

That sucks. I feel for you bro. But just to make sure it is defective. Flash the original region of your phone brand to test before jumping to that unfortunate conclusion
I live in australia and I bought a g900f which I believe is for uk or europe. For australia its g900i and I cannot install the firmware onto g900f. But when I installed gps toolbox it didn't even give me anything. I can understand its one thing to take a long time to get a lock but not seeing any satellites at all is another thing. Ive tried around 10 different gps.conf files designed for australia satellites

Ok, you can do it.
I intended to test it myself first coz I wanted to flash G900F on my G900I in reverse.
Now it's impossible for me coz unfortunately I have been ended up with downloading corrupted firmware due to unreliable internet connection (5 times 2day so far)
If you're desparate to flash G900I, you MUST back up your current firmware PIT file. In case you fail to flash G900I firmware, that PIT file will be used along with your stock firmware to recover your phone to its pristine state.
To do it, please follow this guide , if you're using G900I 16Gb, you could download the PIT file from the OP immediately.
Hope it could help you, please let me know with your attempt. I'd like to help you out in case any thing goes wrong with your phone

ok, so here is the update. since installing G900I firmware failed through odin due to bootloader incompatibility i managed to install it through mobile odin. worked like a charm and even had the telstra bootanimation lol. wifi, bluetooth and everything seemed to be working fine. however my gps is still not working and the G900I seems to have the same gps.conf file as the euro version. i definately believe my gps module is either faulty or not connected to the board properly. is there any app that can tell if the gps module is even there or turned on as no one else is having this problem.

i can't remember if gps was working before i rooted phone. couldn't have been because everyone else running alliance rom said they havent got problems with gps so it must be a fault unit. im going to take it to a phone repair shop and see if they can fix the gps module.

Possible to switch between model firmware?

For example I'm using sm-g900i can I switch to sm-g900f? Also I plan to stay on stock ROM.

It's been asked and answered so many times before, that we can safely presume that you didn't bother searching to see if it the question had been asked and answered before.
In short, no. It inevitably fails and often brick your phone as well. You can do it, with various cavets between nearly identical varients e.g. 900W8 and 900T. But installing 900F firmware on a 900I seems rather implausible.

My answer is YES in some particular case.
I can use G900F firmwares on G900I devices and I tested it by myself (using Mobile Odin, can't flash with Odin Desktop). The just & only one thing won't work is NFC (G900I NFC module is different with G900F) if you're planning to use G900F stock kernel. But this could be fixed easily with custom kernel.

it seems there isn't a solid answer for this, i have been searching for the answers and it appears to be scattered in multiple threads in which its not the main topic. You say it doesn't others say it does.

No, I said that most people will simply tell you it's impossible.
In actual fact, it's complicated. It will fail in most cases, but will succeed in a minority of specific situations. In short, it's risky and will usually fail. But if you understand why it usually fails or simply gamble - it sometimes works.
I don't have a 900I to test directly. An earlier poster said that he was able to install 900F firmware, but some things e.g. NFC were not supported. He didn't provide much detail, but likely the baseband remained 900I and in due course he will probably find a number of other anomalies. Also having one flash apparently work in no way guarantees that all firmware versions will work between those variants.
Since few people risk bricking their phones to try this, fewer still understand the nuances and an abundance of assumptions and misinformation, it's difficult to find trustworthy information on what can or can't be done.

[Q] Lollipop For S4 SHV-E300L?

No progress yet if any one that have done flashing any rom on this device kindly help us to do so too.

No luck
I have this phone since last September and really regret that I bought it. Even though it looks like and feels like a normal 9505 or 9500 model, due to its specifications you can not use any custom rom of more common variants. (No Cyanogen, No Miui, No any other well known custom rom). Do not even try flashing 9505 or 9500 roms, I managed to soft brick my phone already with them.
There is almost zero support for this product in forums or if there is any it is in Korean language. The only custom rom I came across is TeamLeader rom, which is a cleaner stock rom practically, getting rid of Samsung's bloatware, but nothing special, same user experience.
IIRC the SHV-E300 is the Galaxy S4 LTE-A and more or less the same device as the ks01lte. So take a look in the i9506 section, there you will find some custom ROMs for your phone, some already LP-based.
I recommend arters 97's CM12, he is doing a great job on this phone.

First of all, lets get something straight. Most people use the term "bricked" improperly. A bricked phone means one thing: your phone won't turn on in any way, shape or form, and there's nothing you can do to fix it. It is, for all intents and purposes, as useful as a brick. A phone stuck in a boot loop is not bricked, nor is a phone that boots straight into recovery mode. These are things you can usually fix, and they're a lot more common than a truly bricked phone. If your phone is actually bricked, you won't be able to fix it yourself (but there are things you can do
If Your Phone Is Truly Bricked: Take It Into the Store and Play Dumb
If your phone is actually bricked—that is, it won't turn on at all, no matter how hard you try—it's time to give up and move on. The first thing you can do in this situation is try to take it back to your carrier's store and play dumb—just say something like "I don't know what happened, but my phone won't turn on anymore" (don't tell them you rooted it, obviously). Most carriers don't have time to deal with such issues and they'll just give you a new phone. Sure, it's a tad evil, but it should work most of the time

[Q] Installing Another country on my note 4 and few questions!

Hi, im tired of waiting for Lollipop on my note 4, i have N910HXXU1ANK5 and i was thinking about flashing the other country's firmware, how much is the risk of bricking my device? i pad 800$ for this and im extremely scared! its so much compared to my previous nexus 4 on my old nexus 4 is was like fastboot unlock and tada! its a bit harder in here and i bricked my old n7000 so i rather be careful this time!
Generally how much is the risk of bricking a note 4! what could cause it! i know in general its wrong firmware but like the old n7000 factory reset on ics would kill it and which it did is there anything special like that with the note 4? just be sure too check rom versions?
and what should i do to install 910C on my 910H? what happens if i do something wrong?(soft or hardbrick?)
sorry if this thread sounds stupid, but im going to be 100% sure before i do this as i paid my whole life savings on this
thanks!
From my understanding of the 910h, it is a 3g unlocked note 4. What service are you currently running it through? I just got the lollipop update from verizon a couple of days ago. Before the update came out I got a taste of what lollipop would be like by switching my runtime in the developer options. After the update there isn't too much of a difference. Just color scheme of messaging and some animated pointer click detection and top and bottom wave animation on screen when fully at the top or bottom while scrolling. If you want to get the same performance with your apps as lollipop is running right now, simply go to developer options in your settings, then select runtime, then change from dalvik to ART. Then you won't have to worry about bricking your phone at all.

Root for my phone isn't available yet. Comes stock with knox. There's actually a bounty for a verizon and at&t root method right now, so I'm going to have to hook mine up to my Linux based computer and see what I can do. The biggest risk is of course bricking your device by installing another country. I've been rooting devices since froyo was being developed. I've bricked and unbricked a few of my own devices. Unbricking is usually not easy. Because your partition is more than likely specifically for 910h you'd have to repartition it for the 910c that you would want to install. Make sure to make a copy of the 910h partition before you start. Also copy all of the .rar, .tar, .md5 files that are on the device currently. Haven't done it for about a year myself, but if I remember correctly there are 5-7 of them. One for the modem, etc.

Lets start, its too hard on todays day to brick a device, there are a lot more work around, its not 2011 anymore, the only thing u need to be able to do right is READING, without insulting nobody if you can read then your fine, reading and following all steps on this forum is a key. You can flash anything u want on ur phone WHILE ITS MADE SPECIFICALLY FOR YOUR N910x MODEL, if ur not rooted yet, go and root it, it takes 2 minutes, remember the key READING, then you can make ur own research by reading the Development section, after u have done rooting and flashing a custom recovery, most people use TWPR, then ur good to go. If you just want a stock experience, then go to sammobile website, search ur model number, and download the stock rom, this you will have to flash it using ODIN, but like a said, by READING, you have NOTHING to worry. Remember if something happens to ur device, this is just to have it in mind,
WHILE U CAN ACCESS DOWNLOAD MODE VIA VOLUME DOWN+HOME+POWER, YOU ARE SAFE MY FRIEND, GOOD LUCK

Can the IMEI of another phone be used on a note 4?

Thanks all. Please delete.
Switching IMEI is illegal and it will work AFAIK

I some how changed imei by downgrading DBE 5.0.2 to KK then updating it to BTU LP then installing simple rom. I didn't want it to happen but it did. Phone works fine.

I am aware it is illegal. I am not asking how to do it, or if I should and not saying that I will. Simply asking if an imei can work on a different device.

Yeah, it can work on a different device, obviously don't do it.
The consequences can be severe if caught messing with the device's IMEI #

As I said, not sure where or how but it changed it. I only realised it when I was selling it. This guy buying it checked the imei from the dialpad. And it didn't match the box or the back of the phone.
I installed BTU Lollipop for him before selling.
It was N910F European one.
Now I just got N910C Arab one.

Yes, I definitely will not be doing it. No worries. Disregard anything I said before, this is simply research for an emulator and android app I am developing.
Qualcomm devices are prone to getting the IMEI corrupted, my Qualcomm Note 3 kicked the bucket that way after some custom ROM experiments. Exynos variants are much less susceptible to this, so I grabbed a N910C this time 'round
For those curious: Qualcomm NV tools can save your device's IMEI and CERT - these absolutely _must_ be paired to access a mobile network. You can backup and restore IMEIs this way, note that installing another device's IMEI and CERT pair is highly illegal.
Even Samsung repair shops don't transfer your old IMEI when swapping motherboards (because doing so would be a violation of the GSM spec) - they give you a new sticker!

Well, by that logic, as long as you have the imei sticker, put it in your phone in place of your old sticker, and change to that number, you will be fine.
If only there was a tool to do this. Can't seem to find any. Oh well. : (
