Custom recovery - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

How would I go about building a recovery for the nexus player? I've done kernels before and custom roms, any guides and how to make one for the nexus player, nexus devices in general?

stock jro03c kernel

Hi I have tried out a custom kernel and now I would like to return to stock.
I got the stock jro03c rom on my device but I have only managed to find the "stock-jrn84d-nexus7-kernel.zip" in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775798
If its the same as the jro03c kernel I might as well use that. I just want back to stock so I can get my OTA´s like normal.
Hi,
The best way to go back to stock kernel is to download stock rom, extract files then go into fastboot/bootloader mode and type :
./fastboot flash boot boot.img
This will reflash the stock kernel

You could also use the Nexus 7 toolkit to restore to the stock ROM.

Flash?

New to the Nexus 7, love it.
Any ROMs that have flash support? My wife is asking.

Any ROM can have flash support, but since its not official you can't download it from the market. You'll have to search for Flash for JellyBean, lots of posts here on XDA with download links. I'm using Flash on my Fascinate, Galaxy Nexus, and my Nexus 7, all running JB, using it with Dolphin browser, but it works with others as well.
If you fiddle with older versions of apps, yes.
Just don't expect to update everything and have flash still working

[Q] What i do with the ROM?

Well, I'll buy the Nexus 4 weeks coming but I still appear doubts about what I'll do with it hehe! It's better have the stock version of android with Franco Kernel, or Installing the CM 10.1 with Franco Kernel or have the defaut kernel with the CM 10.1. I heard that with the Franco Kernel version of the stock android can not be updated. Is it true? Grateful. Hug
Whatever you like. It's your choice. You have to test it out on your own and see.
I don't really understand your last question.

Sry, I heard that with the Franco Kernel, the stock version of android can not be updated. Is it true?
No. If you're not on stock recovery then you would not be able to get the updates. Kernels do not do such a thing like you said. If you have a stock recovery and a custom kernel is installed you'll be able to get updates as long as the recovery is stock.

You can't apply an update to the stock ROM if anything is altered, including using a custom kernel. But you can easily just re-flash the stock kernel, apply the update and then flash your custom kernel again.

That's true. But the Nexus 7 is the best Android device I've ever owned. Ran it stock unrooted for a few days, and then unlocked, rooted and flashed Sinless ROM (after making a nandroid backup, of course.)

Anyone having issues flashing new ROM to this Nexus?

Thinking of upgrading soon to the 2013 model and wondering if anyone is having issues with flashing a custom ROM.
No. Flashing ROMs is just as easy as any other nexus device.
Once you have a custom recovery, just download a rom and flash or use GooManager or whatever method you like.
