Old Nexus 2012 using again. - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Started using the old N7 again. Im still on 4.2.2, build number JDQ39E. Unlocked and rooted running a version of Rasbean from July 2013. Is there anything i need to do to update it. I havent found a stand alone firmware to flash only references to new bootloaders.
Thanks

NOOB (to the N7) ?'s

Ok, got the N7 for my wife instead of the Fire. Just got it and want to root/unlock it before giving it to her so I can play behind her back. It's a JRN84D build, and I obviously want to upgrade to a stock rooted JR003D odex build. I'd also like to keep the Tranformers movie. All this being said....should I:
Root, dirty flash rooted JR003D rom
or
Normal upgrade to JR003D, then root, then flash rooted rom
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
My nexus (JRO03D) is rooted and I can watch the transformer movie. I took the OTA 4.1.1 update and rooted/unlocked and then flashed a few ROMs (Pafanoidandroid, AOKP, Glazed, and currently running Bugless)
PS I am also a noob.

Sign in for the first time. Take the OTA. transformers and play credit will already be yours.
Then unlock , root, flash ROM.

Update?

I just received my nexus 7 and there's already an update available. I plan on rooting and flashing a custom rom. Should I update or not? I know sometimes an update can cause problems when it comes to rooting and whatnot so I thought I'd ask first.. thanks for any feedback!

Yes update it. I updated to 4.1.1 first then unlocked, then rooted with permanent cwm then flashed touch cwm from rom manager.
Use nexus toolkit though so you can restore stock recovery to flash Amy new updates and root again easily.
Also no harm updating to 4.1.1 and then rooting we have methods set up for that right now.

You can root it before or after update, you're just updating to 4.1.1, or you can install a ROM that is already there, if you're rooting either way, just go for it right away

Thanks a lot for your quick responses! Lovin it so far no issues like I've heard about.

This is a nexus device. Unlike other devices you never need to fear an update may break your ability to root.

N7 build numbers

Hi all I have x2 Nexus 7 32gb versions.
The old one came with build JRO03D and the new one came with JRN84D.
When I updated the new N7 to Jellybean 4.1.1, the build became JRO03D, question is, which is the newer build number ? I thought it was the JRN84D as it was the new Nexus batch that just got delivered.
cheers
JR003D is 4.1.1 where as other is just 4.1

4.3 update

I have a nexus 7 which is rooted with wug fresh toolkit. It shows i am running 4.3 jellybean. I just got an update yesterday that the tablet wants me to install that is for 4.3 jellybean... The notification is in the upper left of my screen and wont go away. Not sure what to do or why its asking me to upgrade to 4.3 because i have it already. Should i install it?
thanks
It's a patch for several problems created by the 4.3 update.
Sent from my Nexus 7(2012) that has zero issues.
But since your rooted it won't update. There is a thread in General Nexus that explains and has solutions.

I too have a nexus 7 (2012) rooted with WUGfresh. It runs fine while 4.3 seems to have all sorts of problems on the Nexus 7 (2013) which is already on update #3. So I'm reluctant to upgrade to 4.3 till they solve its bugs.
What essential improvement does 4.3 bring over 4.2.2?
Ok thanks everyone, ill take a look for the other thread

Kit Kat (Android 4.4) release soon!

Just a quick Hi to all the Nexus 7 2013 owners! I just acquired mine a couple days ago! Replaced my HTC Flyer (BB WiFi model). Been eyeing this beauty for a while. Rooted and installed Official CM 10.2 ROM.....however, I flashed back to stock root. Here's why:
The rumors point to a drop date for Kit Kat (Android 4.4) of October 28th
Any of you gonna give it a shot?

There's already a thread on this topic. Granted, the title may be a little misleading, but that can be overlooked.
