Android Sliding Tabs Fill Tab Strip Question - Java for Android App Development

Hello! I have recently gotten into Android development and am really enjoying it so far.
On my current project, I am using the base framework for a sliding tab layout from developer.android.com/samples/SlidingTabsBasic/index.html
I have attached images of what my app looks like now.
As you can see, the tabs on the top don't fill the entire bar. I imagine I need to dynamically set the padding between titles on the slider bar but I am not sure where I would do this. Does anyone have experience with this or could recommend a better way to do this?

I'm just getting started with Android development, so it's likely that what I think isn't the best solution.
But couldn't you just use a linear layout and give all tabs a weight of 1?

any horizontal scrolling launcher?

ive spent about all my free time at work today searching around for an app that is basically just a today plugin app launcher with horizontal scrolling as is seen in the diamonds today screen interface at the bottom. basically the best way i could describe it would be a plugin exactly like cLaunch but with horizontal scrolling between the icons.
i would be willing to help out if anyone knows how to take cLaunch or its predecessor (cant remember its name right now, something like todaylaunch or something?) and add in the horizontal scrolling feature. if there are people out there that might be able to help out, maybe we could also take claunch and add in a feature to add multiple rows of icons, maybe each with individual lines of scrolling???
any help on this is appreciated
thanks.
Did You tried Throttlelauncher here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=390553
yeah sorry i meant to include this:
ive tried throttle launcher, ultimate launch, point ui, ifonz..... ive tried a lot. im willing to throw about any good looking app that at least some ppl like and test it out.
but all of those mentioned before try to just take over your today screen. thats too much, i am just hoping to either find or help make a today plugin, with customizable height as well.
>>>basically cLaunch with a scrolling feature is what this app would come out to be.
look again at ultimate launch... You can make a simple icon row (say 4 scross), and with a flick, it goes to another page of 4 icons, leaving the rest of the today screen intact. You can set height in it. Its GREAT!
Maybe BatteryStatus...take a look at their theme thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=350510
Ultimate Launch will do exactly what you're asking.
Just like cLaunch (single row if that's all you want) and you can slide / rotate through as many such rows as you choose.
You'll need to configure it appropriately.
You'll put it in the Today Items with Ultimate Launch in the appropriate order as you want (like cLaunch).
Then in UL config on "headers" set the Height to "0" (zero).
You're done. Add as many tabs as you want but keep the link count to a small enough number that they don't "wrap" to a second line and you've got cLaunch with scrolling.
with ultimate launcher if i did that wouldnt it basically do the same thing as claunch, just with customizable transitions. the scrolling im looking for wouldnt have pages like ultimate launch would with its icons.... itd be like how the diamonds bottom bar transitions.
pretty damn picky huh?? haha
UL is the answer.

Request (for a wheel-like TF3D slider)

Just a question for all the programming experts - Is there any way to make an app or something that will take the slider icons on the bottom of the TF3D screen and make them into a type of wheel instead of a linear, side scrolling deal. There's an image in the last thread of wallpapers only (see here) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=4316093&postcount=355 that I got the idea/image from, since that's what I think it would look like. Anyone know if there's something like this out there, or if it's possible to make?

Icons "Cut Off" on HTC Touch Pro 2

I'm new to the Windows Mobile environment and have searched for HOURS for a solution to this issue. This has been a very humbling experience
Regardless of the icon set that I use (installed as a Tap Icons component using MaxTTM v4.1), the icons appear cropped (as in attached screenshot). This occurs regardless of the icon set - even for those from the Rhodium forum specifically.
Am I doing something wrong here?
WM 6.5 Professional
ROM (OEM from US Cellular) version 2.01.573.3 (10/16/09)
TF3D v 2.1.19202217.5 (Per MaxTTM Settings tab)
Sorry for such an obviously NOOB question. Please let me know if additional information would help.
Thank you!!!
it is not only you. I got the exact same setup and have the same problems. I have found two sets of icons that work:
Black Slider Icons 6.5 can be found on PPCGeeks by santod:

It's because manila uses the top left corner of the image. Icons in 2.1 and 2.5 sense use only the top left hand corner of their entire 128 by 128 size
The ones you used are centered, so it scaled them up to 128 by 128 and then used only the left hand corner of them. It's just because you're using the wrong kind of icons .
Thank you both for your feedback. I thought it must have been something within Manilla itself because it was such a widespread issue affecting most component addons.
It is frustrating that it is so limited the way it is (albeit still better than Blackberry - a platform I have come to despise).
Someday when I have time/ambition, I it might be worth loading a custom ROM. Until then, thank you for your comments.
Even with those that say for rhodium manila 2.1? huh? will have to look out for it in the future.
I also had the same problem.
The solution is to create a 128 x 128 transparent image, and add as a new layer on top the icon image sized at 64 x 64. They will also need to be offset slightly.
As I cant post a link because I'm a newbie, run a search in the forum for the thread headed:
'New custom tab icons for slider of HTC Stock ROM Sense 2.1'
Hope this helps.

Icon Spacing in 2.2!

Is it just me or 2.2 icon spacing is terrible? Just updated to 2.2 from 1.6 and now I am faced with a row of empty coloum that I can not fit any more icons into.
Not sure what to do? please help?
It is like no matter what I do in dragging the icons across the screen to fill this gap, upon releasing my finger it goes back down in to the vertical coloum of icons.
What I should expect it to do like in 1.6 is to just start filling that big empty huge gap that can easily fit a standard application icons.
BUT NOT THE CASE OF 2.2? what all the hype is this about?
if you want more icons on your screen, you need to use an alternative launcher like launcherpro. i actually jumped ship today and installed it. i found the stage widgets to be a bit of a let down so i was ok with loosing them, and i was worried i wouldnt like launcherpro because i had it before on an old phone and didnt like it, and i didnt like it on my streak till i found the setting that says "auto-fit items: resizes widgets and icons to fit the grid size". its nice, i like it.

It had to be that way to fit in both landscape and portrate, even if you use another launcher and use more icons for portrate eg: 7 rows x 6 columns when to turn to landscape the 7 rows are all to squashed.
It's the same with wallpapers, what fits in portrate doesn't fit in landscape.
It's what you get with a widscreen smartphone.

Calendar for Android

Hey folks,
I have been into this app which has a lot to do with calendar and dates.
I am still confused about the libraries available for it, I will be requiring the calendar to have following features:
- The calendar should change (by month) when I swipe UP or DOWN
- The boxes of month should have specific colors according to the events of that particular day, eg: red for urgent issues, green for vacation and so on
- The boxes should also have ICONS like weather updates for that particular date
- A LIST VIEW of the calendar will also be needed
If anyone has seen any which can accommodate these features, do let me know.
Cheers
Alex
Hey Alex,
for me, these seem more like programming issues, rather than library ones.
For the first one (The calendar should change (by month) when I swipe UP or DOWN) implementing a gesturedetector is the best way to go Imo.
The other three are simple coding issues, like setting backgrounds, drawables and implementing a listview.
As a tip, you should check out a library we made called "CalendarWrapper" (sorry, I can't yet post links, search for it on GitHub). Basically it's a wrapper around the CalendarProvider, so there's no need to mess around with cursors, everything can be done with object methods. It lacks a few features though.
I don't think there are any ready to use libraries with these specific features, so I'm afraid you will have to build it yourself. There are a few date picker / time picker dialogs floating around, or android-times-square from Square, but you'll have to look into extending it with the specific features like image overlay support for the weather/icon.
caldroid
Have a look at caldroid, it does not have all the functions you seek but is very customizable.
Since you are asking for too much in one library, you will have to do a lot of coding on top of any library that you choose.
thankx
Thankx guys, CalendarWrapper did give me something to look into but caldroid has almost done the job for me.
I have finished the bulk of the job with caldroid now it is printing images inside the dates and list view left.
I do know where to start for list view but printing icons inside boxes could be tricky
Will update you guys when I am done with the APP and put it on play store.
Cheers
