Icons "Cut Off" on HTC Touch Pro 2 - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

I'm new to the Windows Mobile environment and have searched for HOURS for a solution to this issue. This has been a very humbling experience
Regardless of the icon set that I use (installed as a Tap Icons component using MaxTTM v4.1), the icons appear cropped (as in attached screenshot). This occurs regardless of the icon set - even for those from the Rhodium forum specifically.
Am I doing something wrong here?
WM 6.5 Professional
ROM (OEM from US Cellular) version 2.01.573.3 (10/16/09)
TF3D v 2.1.19202217.5 (Per MaxTTM Settings tab)
Sorry for such an obviously NOOB question. Please let me know if additional information would help.
Thank you!!!

it is not only you. I got the exact same setup and have the same problems. I have found two sets of icons that work:
Black Slider Icons 6.5 can be found on PPCGeeks by santod:

Sketchy icons found in the third post

MykCer's Sense 2.1 Chrome Flip clock includes a a good looking clock with a chrome slider that works perfect, only with the stock tap icons though.

It's because manila uses the top left corner of the image. Icons in 2.1 and 2.5 sense use only the top left hand corner of their entire 128 by 128 size
The ones you used are centered, so it scaled them up to 128 by 128 and then used only the left hand corner of them. It's just because you're using the wrong kind of icons .

Thank you both for your feedback. I thought it must have been something within Manilla itself because it was such a widespread issue affecting most component addons.
It is frustrating that it is so limited the way it is (albeit still better than Blackberry - a platform I have come to despise).
Someday when I have time/ambition, I it might be worth loading a custom ROM. Until then, thank you for your comments.

Even with those that say for rhodium manila 2.1? huh? will have to look out for it in the future.

I also had the same problem.
The solution is to create a 128 x 128 transparent image, and add as a new layer on top the icon image sized at 64 x 64. They will also need to be offset slightly.
As I cant post a link because I'm a newbie, run a search in the forum for the thread headed:
'New custom tab icons for slider of HTC Stock ROM Sense 2.1'
Hope this helps.

cLaunch mods for large icons (CAB and source included)

cLaunch is GREAT, but unfortunately it doesn't handle icons larger than 32x32 pixels all that well. I wanted to create a bunch of big 48px photo shortcuts (32 was just too small!). However, even with a 48px bitmap, cLaunch just crops to 32px and scales up to 48px. Results are not what I wanted, and ugly.
So I created a hacked up version of cLaunch (based on version 12.04, 11 Jan 2008) and I called it cLaunch_48px. It works just like the normal cLaunch does... The only difference is apparent if...
you set the icon size to 48 AND
have a 48px bitmap file as the icon
...it WILL show the entire 48px bitmap, without distortion. Your icon size should be set to exactly 48px in cLaunch, otherwise you will see the regular cLaunch behavior. Note: You can still use any size icons you want, you'll just get the default behavior. For example, I have one tab with 32px icons and another with 48px.
To use: download the CAB and install as normal. It can even coexist with an existing cLaunch installation. This version will share settings with any existing cLaunch installation so you won't need to do anything special to import. You do not need to remove your existing cLaunch, if you have it installed already. Use at your own risk so backup your \Windows\cLaunch.dat file just to be safe.
To hack--experts only: Source code included as zip (project/solution file is VStudio 2008). The only file changed from the original is main.cpp, included in zip (other than vstudio project files). FYI: If you want, you could create an even bigger version (such as 64px) modeled after this version (diff main.cpp with the original cLaunch 12.04 version)... I didn't do that here for two reasons (1) I didn't want 64px icons and (2) supporting both 48px AND 64px icons would use up too much memory.
If I get a chance sometime, I might actually provide a screenshot, but it won't look much different than a typical cLaunch screenshot, expect for nice and clear 48px icons.
Works great with go2contact (created by me).
Also, SUPER THANKS to the creators of cLaunch!
??????
Great Idea. I like claunch because of its small siZe, but I don't use it because of the small Icons. Tried the prog and it doesn't work. Icons remain at 32 even after I resized them. I can tell they are larger because it only shows a portion of it. Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing?
Got IT
OOPs figured it out. Works Great. Thanks

Hi craig,
good job. Would you by any chance have an idea why claunch 1204 would show only a quarter of the icons (and what's worse, only a quarter of the setup menus) on VGA (x51v)?
Do you think there's anything to be done about it? I like claunch 1203 but there the icons are shown with pixel doubling and therefor very coarse.
cheers

Don't know much about 12.03 and what changed with 12.04. However, with 12.04, from what I could tell by the code: it's best to use 16 and/or 32 px icons/bitmaps (or 48 if you're running cLaunch_48px) and show them at their native size. Otherwise, scaling/cropping will occur.
craig,
I am only using this for shortcuts to regular apps with their own built-in icons. I suppose they are 32*32.
When I set the icon size to 16*16, i see the icon in normal resolution but only the upper left quarter of it.
When I set the icon size to 32*32 I still see only a quarter, but now with pixel doubling, instead of the whole icon in normal resolution. When I set the icon size to 64*64 I see the entire icon, with pixel doubling, but distorted at the bottom.
Also, the upper left corner of the icons is shown in the setup screen, and of the settings and options dialog (and ONLY those), only the upper left corner is shown (this makes it impossible to configure the settings, but I can still do that through claunch 1203 which I have installed also.
can you see anything VGA-related in the code?
Kuifje
I have installed the CAB file but when I go to change the icon size to 48, the icons appears tiled on my today screen. The icons are 32*32 and tiled in the allowed 48 icon size. Do I need to make changes to additional settings??
Hi,
I have a freshly purchased Ipaq 214, and i use to use Claunch on my Asus620.
the Ipaq is VGA, and i have same behaviour you mention, ie can only see quater of the configuration menu... which does not really allow to tweak the interface, and finally makes it unusable!
not to be too particular, but 48 point is too large. can you hackup another version that accept 36-40 pixel? thank you so much if you could.
cLaunch Settings
I am a little slow on how these things work outside of loading them and adjusting the settings so this could be me being dense, but I am hoping someone can help.
I just went from a Touch to a Touch Pro and when I loaded cLaunch it is tiny on the screen. When I go into the settings the left side of the screen has some info, and on the right some of the tabs are there but cut off, and I can't get to the other ones.
I have tried the version above as well as 12.03 (which says it is not a valid pocket pc app and can't be loaded) and 12.04. I have loaded cLaunch.dat into the windows folder and see my shortcuts on the screen but they are very, very small.
Is this a setting I need to change? I have been through all the settings I can think of. I love this app and would appreciate any help anyone can give me to make this work.

Hello
I'm new on this forum and would like to confirm exactly the same problems on my HTC Touch HD.
I've been using this software for years on my old MIO, but I must now move to another soft for my HTC.
Like other people in this thread, I really would like to come back to Claunch.
Any chance to get it upgraded ?
Many thanks for that wonderfull software.
I would like to have Claunch size 64
Hi,
I am very happy with Claunch size 48, but it would be better en size 64 : the friend of my mother had an AVC and he can't speak.
I put pics and shortcut to .mp3 : when he clic on one pic, the pocket PC read a little sentence.
He can use it in size 48, but it would be easier in size 64.
Many thanks for that wonderfull software.
Excuse my bad english, I am french....
Chantal
vga screen
it doesn't work with vga screen .. ie v900
it would be kind if it was possible to make it working for vga screen
many thanks
plus 1 on this if anyone can make a higher res icon version for wvga
would like to try this on the HD2 but icons are only a quater size with this version.
Can you get exe instead of today's plug in?
What i mean can we also jave claunch.exe which can be excuted from PPC as stand alon application instaed of today's plugin

Easy tips to make your device look beautiful

I'm probably preaching to the noobs here since most of you seasoned veterans should already know all this. I just thought I would contribute something by consolidating a couple of easy tricks.
Sure, there are numerous themes out there. But these days, there's so many versions of Manila that it can get frustrating to find which theme works for your ROM. So, here's a couple of tips to personalize your device regardless of Manila version.
1. Make your taskbar more interesting and useful
There's really no reason to stick with the default WinMo taskbar. It's bland, boring, and you can only see battery level in 4 increments. There are numerous custom taskbars out there but I find this one the most eye-pleasing to me. Brian's Taskbar
2. Make your wallpaper visible on all tabs of Sense. And don't let landscape orientation mess up the image.
If you use Manila/TouchFlo3D/Sense, don't bother setting your wallpaper via the Settings tab. Your wallpaper will look alright on your Home tab in portrait mode. But you won't be able to see your wallpaper in your other tabs. And if you switch to landscape orientation, your wallpaper will look horrible. This tool solves all these problems. You can also use a completely different wallpaper for landscape if you choose to. HDWall
(The program is easy to figure out. Take the time and patience to do so. It is worth it.)
3. Keep your Today background beautiful in both landscape and portrait orientation
Those of you who use the default Today screen (instead of Sense, Mobile Shell, etc) will know that you set your wallpaper by doing one of the following:
Option A:
-go to "Today" settings
-toggle on "Use this picture as the background"
-tap "Browse" and then select the image file.
-tap "OK"
Option B:
-open the "Pictures & Videos" application
-Browse to the image file and open it
-Tap "Menu"
-Tap "Set as Today Background..."
-Move the selection area according to your own preference.
-Keep transparency level at 0% (This is an odd setting. I can't fathom a reason for not setting it at 0%)
-Tap "OK"
Rather than using a 480 by 800 image. Try using an image that is 1333 by 800 (width by height).
For WinMo 6.5 users who use HTC Sense, this tip still applies to you. This affects the lockscreen image and the background image of the Start Menu.
Awesome! Thanks! Yes there are noobs out there (...me). I definitely appreciate this. Can't wait to try it out!
Thanks, I am a noob and am trying to decipher all these options. Maybe there can be just series of Noob Stickies...?
And I thought I would find out about lipstick and thong undies here...
I just use an 800x800 image... works just the same.

You're absolutely right. If you use an 800x800 image, the wallpaper displayed will not be scaled down and will be shown in full resolution.
However, here's the reason why I suggested using a 1333x800 image:
See the first attachment named 800x800jpg.
The blue represents the part of the wallpaper visible to you in portrait mode.
The red represents the part of the wallpaper visible in landscape mode. (Of course, imagine that the red extends behind the parts covered by blue in the middle.)
But as you can see, there's some chunks of white areas. Those parts of the image will never be displayed.
If you use a 1333x800 image, every pixel will be displayed in landscape mode. See 2nd attachment named 1333x800.jpg.
800x800 vs 1333x800
I agree entirely with the post above (very useful illustrations).
The only thing I would point out is that the 800x800 wallpaper misses out the corners of the picture in both orientations, whereas the larger wallpaper misses nothing out in one, but huge amounts in the other.
So I think it all depends on the composition of the picture really - if most of the picture is interesting then go for 800x800, if the best bits are in the centre third then go for the larger dimensions.
Of course it also depends on which orientation you spend most time using your phone in...
Just what i was looking for since Energy changed taskbar icons.
Brian's Taskbar looks awsome on the phone and ALSO seemed to make many other icons look more stylish such as storage card and folder icons. Im sure i will run into more stuff from this. Thanks
I have to say thanks for this post. I was unaware of another stable taskbar aside from Tsowen's work and Brian's definitely rocks.
Great post. I'm not exactly a noob, but I haven't spent any quality time with my phone for the last couple of months. I was waiting until some of the bugs got worked out on the programs I was hoping to use. And besides, hubby just got a Verizon Palm Pre so it renewed my interest in making my phone that much better than his.
Your directions were so complete and easy to use. My phone looks great now. That 3rd step was one I hadn't thought of. Last night I installed Brian's taskbar and HDwalls. The wallpaper looked wonderful. I thought I was stuck with the default background for the start menu until I got up this morning and tried your step 3. Now I'm a very happy camper. Thanks for the effort you took in writing this post.
Maybe a bit of a silly question, but I love those tomatoes on the lock screen. Is there any possibility that you could post that picture here?
Thanks in advance
Thanks! was looking to change the default taskbar, but didn't know how.. now i do
BTW: also like the tomatos!

would be helpful if you mentioned what ROM you're using and what taskbar is causing you difficulties....
WM 6.5
Rom 1.86.415.2 (67102)
and i tried both brain's taskbar and spike's
few min ago i used another Brain taske bar
(New_F_ Brians WM6.5 Taskbar gfreek edition V5a.cab)
it works without a bug in the signal icon , but i'm not lovin the icons really niko's were much pleasant for me, especially the start icon its not the htc logo
also i have another question my friend, which i chose to show clock on taskbar , it used to show it in any running program but not in the Home screan and it's taps , which is logic
since i update the Rom and the clock in the task bar shows in the Home screan and make the battery disappears !!!!!
even when i installed this brain taskbar also the clock removes the battery icon from the home screan

Customizing apearance of TF3D

Hi,
Recently I have bought my new Topaz and I run original WM 6.5 ROM without any mods or custom staff. I saw here in the forum some really nice customizations but I am totaly confused about how to install them or what do i need to do berfore I can install them. I read here about custom ROMs and other things but I'm not so hurry to do that stuff because I consider it as a big hit to the phone. In fact I want only some graphical enchantments to the TF3D like transparent bars and coloured icons in top bar (like the battery icon would be coloured and showing how many % of energy remain) and if it is possible I saw shortcuts to some apps below the clock in the home page.
So is it necessary to flash a new ROM or is it possible to do it on the stock one? Is it related to the version of manila? (I tried to get version of my manila but i really can't find that information - I looked into settings but I didn't see it there)
Any help would be much appreciated,
thanks

this is currently not possible for TouchFlo3D/Sense 2.1 users...but one of the developers here is currently working on a project that may just provide that shortly...so keep checking on that.

Thank you, that taskbar is exactly what I was looking for.
And about that transparency, I have tried WallHD but it looks like it is not making bars transparent but it changes them with a new picture which means that if you open an application with bars, you'll not have them black but a part of your background picture and I don't like that.
I'll also try to find transparent slider but I didn't have time to do a big search
But the biggest problem is that I really can't find my exact version of Manila. It should be written in settings -> about but I don't have it there. Then I read that in newer versions it is located in settings -> all settings -> system -> device information -> software tab. There's nothing too, I don't even have a software tab.
BTW My phone came with Win 6.5 preinstalled (maybe this will smehow help). Can you please give me some advice what to do, if there is any soft that can somehow get it for me?
Thanks
Hi Tommy
Glad the link was of assistance. Re. finding your Manila version details I have to say that I suffered from a similar issue. In the end it was solved as a by product of installing what is IMHO a must have app; TD2 Tools. Installing this application (which is freeware but I reckon is well worth a donation) provides access to a number of features not available through the stock interface and also Manila and other device information that is useful.
Take a look at the following link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=536410
It is a large thread but the download link is on the 1st page and yo can get a view of what it does by covering the first few pages. having said that the best way is to install and review.
So far the current release has provide to be very stable...for me at least.
Enjoy!

Oh, thanks, I had that app already but I didn't notice that it is writen there. Finaly my searching for manila is in the end
And I agree it is a must have app

Database for slider icon sets?

I see a thread where people post their desktop screens I'm just wondering if there was a place on this site where there were slider icon sets? I've seen alot of cool ones but apparently alot of them come with cooked roms. I'm running stock so I would just like to change the appearance, not the whole system.
Thanks!

You'll have to make sure you get an icon slider set that matches your version of Manila, but there's a ton of topics in this area about them, usually just titled something like "New Sense 2.1 slider icon set" etc.
Here's a couple I found just within the 1st 2 pages of this section:
2.1 slider icons
2.5 slider icons

Sense/Manila/TouchFLO3d (TF3D) are all different names for the different versions of the user interface (UI) that HTC put on the phones to "cover up" the winmo OS underneath. The version you have is what determines the basic visual layout, as well as what files/methods are necessary to make changes or customizations.
The bad news: The version you have (TF3D 2.1, same as me), is an earlier version that doesn't have support for the prettier, bigger slider icons you may see around here frequently. You can usually spot those screen images easily because they'll have bigger, more "cartoon-like" icons in the slider, and there's often weather somewhere right on the home page, under the clock. As you'll notice, your interface doesn't have either, which is how it's easy to spot our version compared to the others.
The good news: Our version is one of the few where icon/slider sets are fairly easy to build, using the popular app HDWalls, available here. With that, just about any image you could find/want can be converted into a slider that will work for you. HDWalls has a bit of a learning curve though, but not impossible. If you have some icons in particular you'd like made into a slider, let me know and I should be able to do it quickly and easily...as long as I can find/extract/use source images for each icon (i.e. one big screenshot of all of them won't help, I'll need individual images). I even have some cabs to make the slider transparent underneath the icons.
brent372 has also assembled some TF3D 2.1 slider icon sets on his page, you can check them out HERE. If you want to go looking for more on your own, you need to search for ones that specifically say they're compatible with TF3D 2.1...."sense 2.1" sliders won't work, just FYI.

Quick Launch App?

Hi,
So I was just having a play around and tried installing cLaunch that I used to use on my old p3600
The only problem is that it only supports 16 x 16 icons, so on the HD2 these look so blocky the icon is barely recognisable.
I see that someone has altered an old version of cLaunch to support 48 x48 icons which look great on the HD2 but with one small problem, the version someone altered was for an old cLaunch that only supported QVGA so on the HD2 only a quater of the icon shows (That quater is high quality though, not blocky).
Link to this version:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377490
So I'm wondering of someone knows of a version of this hacked cLaunch that is available for WVGA?
I'm after disabling scence for a bit and just using quicklaunch icons on the today screen like cLaunch can do (Kinda like sence has, but with cLaunch you can just have all the icons without all the other sence stuff and you can have many pages of icons not just 3 pages of 25 icons).
Here is a working with WVGA version, it just doesn't support larger icons like the hacked one above:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/claunch/files/cLaunch v12.03/Source Code/
Any help is greatly appreciated.
